Polaroid LCD TV Television Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Filed Over Alleged Overheating

Polaroid LCD TV Purchasers File Class Action Lawsuit Against Polaroid Over Alleged Polaroid LCD TV Capacitor Overheating.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Polaroid Corporation (“Polaroid”) and PLR IP Holdings, LLC (“PLR IP”) (collectively “Defendants”) in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota (styled Karen Hudson v. Polaroid Corporation and PLR IP Holdings, LLC), alleging, among other things, that Polaroid LCD TVs sold nationwide at large and small chain stores, such as Wal-Mart, Best-Buy, Sam’s Club and Costco and on the internet, are allegedly defectively designed as they expose the TVs’ capacitors to excessive heat and/or excessive voltage, which in turn, can cause the capacitor to fail, the circuit board to shut down and the Polaroid LCD TVs to exhibit problems such as dark screens, smoking and even fire, according to the Polaroid LCD TV Television class action lawsuit complaint.

The Polaroid LCD TV Television class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of a putative class consisting of the following persons:

(a) All persons in the state of Missouri who purchased one or more Polaroid LCD TVs (the “Missouri Class”).

(b) All persons in United States who have purchased one or more Polaroid LCD TVs (the “Multistate Class”).

The Polaroid LCD TV Television class action lawsuit complaint reportedly asserts claims for alleged violations of Missouri’s Merchandising Practices Act, Minnesota’s Uniform Deceptive Trade Practices Act, consumer fraud, breach of express warranty, breach of implied warranty, unjust enrichment, money had and received and injunctive relief.

I’m so happy to hear that someone is finally doing something.

    • judith July 21, 2011, 2:27 am

they should also include visco tv( a brand connected with polaroid) they have the same issues, and the web site dissappeared

  • AJ July 31, 2011, 11:53 pm

Element tv’s were also made by polaroid and were identical other than the badge and suffered the same fate. These product lines should automatically be included considering polaroid’s involvement is the same.

I bought a “very expensive” small Polaroid flat screen tv in June 2008. Yesterday it went black and didn’t turn back on. I’m happy, after reading of all the incidents of fire, mine did not smoke or burn. It’s happily sitting on my dresser, not working. I’m looking to purchase a “well known brand” soon. How do I try and recoop some of the money not well spent on the Polaroid model?

  • Joshua Redmond September 2, 2011, 3:42 am

It is 9/2/2011 and my Polaroid LCD TV has just gone out. My wife and I bought the TV almost 5 years ago and it just started to sizzle and smoke tonight. That is when I read about all of this. I am furious of all the mistrust and dishonest practices that Polaroid has used. We paid a lot for this TV because we thought we could trust a name like Polaroid to deliver a good quality product. Now they will never see a penny of my money again. That goes for them and any of their conglomerates. I am ashamed of them.

  • Corina September 5, 2011, 3:15 pm

So what’s going to happen? I also bought a 32 inch LCD Poloroid TV. I have also being experiencing the same issues. How can I become apart of this lawsuit? What should I do?

    • Briand January 1, 2012, 7:29 am

I have a 40 in Polaroid that just started going black after being on for a few minutes. I too would like info regarding the lawsuit.

      • Missy February 8, 2012, 9:02 pm

We received a 40in Polaroid tv for Christmas 2009 and just today the screen went black. The power light shows blue like there should be a picture but the screen is completely bolack. How do I get in the lawsuit?

      • Dorothy Rogers March 5, 2012, 8:47 am

I recieved a Polaroid 42 inch Tv for Xmas 2008 .It has dark lines running thru it , I have contacted Polaroid twice about the problem and each time told to go buy a new TV because it would cost more to repair this one.

  • Linda Ward September 5, 2011, 8:23 pm

My 32-inch tv/dvd combo just started making this sizzling noise on yesterday, Labor Day, and smoke began to emit from the back. The dvd component had already failed over two years ago, about 3 months after I purchased it from Wal-mart. Despite the mother board Polaroid sent to replace to broken unit, the dvd failed again. I am very upset to find this is a common problem with the brand. Now I am without a TV and it could have been worse. If this had occurred an hour later, after I fell asleep, a fire could have engulfed us through the night. I sometimes fall asleep with the TV on as I am sure many consumers do as well. There are nine people in my home. I hate to imagine the worst from this. And to think that it could all have been avoided by Polaroid informing the public and issuing a recall on the defective TVs. This is rediculous and I would like to be a part of this class action suit to recoup my money spent and any other small damages so that I can buy a more reliable brand. I will definately do more research on my next purchase.

  • Leona Whitten September 9, 2011, 11:27 am

Just yesterday my disabled father was alone when his 32: LCD TV/DVD started smoking. I was not home, and if there had been a fire things could have been a lot more seriuos.
My father purchased it from Walmart in 2008; did Polarid cut corners when they manufactured for discount stores? Sometimes I wonder…
What does one have to do to be included in the lawsuit?

    • Robert Gurciullo February 26, 2012, 9:18 pm

How do we get our money back I paid over 1100 dollars for this tv in 2009

  • Joseph Hood September 10, 2011, 9:45 am

I bought a fairly expensive Polaroid 46 inch back in 2007. The TV’s sound cracks/pops and it keeps freezing (won’t respond to the remote or the buttons on it) to the point of having to unplug/replug the set for it to respond.
What do I have to do to be part of the class action lawsuit.

  • Edward W.Braun September 19, 2011, 3:34 pm

I purchased a 40 inch HD wide screen LCD Poloroid T.V. at Walmart about 2008 when they were changing from analog to digital tuner. I had this Poloroid T.V less than 2 years and a blue strip appeared on the right side of the screen. I took it in to be fixed and they told me the screen was bad. I had 2 T.V. shops check the t.v. and both confirmed it to be a bad screen. The screen cost more than the $798.00 plus tax I paid for the T.V. to start with. 1 year warranty and that is alll you get. Sad that over $800.00 is gone in less than 3 years.

  • Edward W.Braun September 19, 2011, 3:36 pm

I need in this law suit

    • mike church February 26, 2012, 12:30 pm

        • Martin Altizer March 21, 2012, 2:03 pm

I’ll add: model # TLX03210B. Sorry about typos in first post, my new Acer likes to move things around without permission…

  • Robert E Walton Sr. September 19, 2011, 7:38 pm

I have a Polaroid model TLX-03210B with the poping and no picture issue. I need in this lawsuit also. There should be a general recall of these Polaroid LCD TV’s and a replacement, up grade repair or full refund of the selling price for every one of them. Wal-Mart should be included in the lawsuit as a defendent. They have made a fortune selling this junk. Hold them all accountable.

  • Robert E Walton Sr. September 19, 2011, 7:40 pm

I bought this junk also. I need in this lawsuit.

  • rick staino October 12, 2011, 6:08 pm

Would like to be a part of any lawsuit regarding the tlx 03210b Polaroid TV. Picture went out after 2 years, and has been sitting in my garage since. Would sincerely appreciate any information. Thanx

  • kris kaiser October 13, 2011, 4:18 pm

We are just like everyone else. We received a polaroid tv as a gift in December 2008. The screen went black in August 2011. I think a tv should last longer than 2 1/2 years. It is now sitting in the basement. We would like to be part of any suit against Polaroid. It is not right to sell such inferior merchandise to the public. I will not purchase another Polaroid product again.

  • dan r October 15, 2011, 12:00 am

I purchased a 32 inch flat screen, right away the remote didnt work, neither did the new universal i bought. They sent me a new remote which worked for a short time then stopped working,I would switch from the origional, which workes some time, and the 3rd remote. Then they all stopped working. then almost 2 years to the date no visual just audio.contacted bbb, the attorney general, and anyone from polaroid i could get an address from to no avail.I called polaroid several times and got nowhere.

  • Jeff October 17, 2011, 9:32 am

Watching tv with my kids yesterday and smoke began pouring out of the back of my tlx-03210b poloroid tv. I am very concerned that if I had not been home my house would have caught fire. I want in on this lawsuit as well.

  • Crystal October 22, 2011, 5:11 pm

I want in, too. This tv started to sizzle in the room with my 6 year old son!!! It’s ridiculous how they handled this and the fact that my family was endangered infuriates me. How can we join?

  • Nikki October 23, 2011, 2:43 pm

I would like information on how to be a part of this lawsuit. Thanks..

  • Justin October 24, 2011, 1:30 am

I would like information on how to be apart of the lawsuit as well please and thank you!

  • Bernadette Hernandez October 25, 2011, 1:19 pm

Our Visco TV has also failed us!!! If the lawsuit includes the Visco televisions which it should, please e-mail me back so we know how to join the lawsuit.

  • chris torres October 26, 2011, 10:24 pm

My big waste is a 37-inch Polaroid LCD. Everybody else said it already. couldn’t even make to six years, and now it’s just collecting dust in the wall. The thing won’t even turn on. Better unplug it in case it starts to catch fire.

  • Chelsey McCoy November 11, 2011, 1:34 am

My boyfriend and I bought this 32″ LCD TV about 5 years ago and the picture has always gone black on and off and makes a loud humming noise like when you are inserting a disc at least every half hour. The DVD player stopped working after only a month! We had it fixed once but this time the overheating/smoking is too much!! Will never buy or recommend any product by your company again.

  • Kirsten November 14, 2011, 12:19 pm

I would like in on this class action lawsuit, as would several other posters here. Can someone please notify us on how to join and possibly be recompensated?

  • Rebecca November 14, 2011, 4:06 pm

I had a Polaroid TV that the company had a tech. come out 2 times to work on.. then had the tv shipped to be repaired, upon the return of the TV it still was not fixed!!!! Polariod had the TV shipped back to them with a FED EX airbill with their company name on it.. I shipped it and I have never seen the tv again. I paid 900.00 for the TV from Wal-mart. and when I call they tell me sorry company has changed ownership and we have no records of the TV.. Then I get a bill from Fed EX!!!! to my name for 356.00 so now I am out 900.00 for the TV and owe Fed ex.. something is wrong with this!!!!!

  • John McDonald December 18, 2011, 1:03 am

i bought a 40 inch polaroid about 2 years ago i just paid 150 dollars to replace the capacitors on the power board and it smells like it is burning really bad still how do i get in on this

  • JAMAILNE DUCKETT December 18, 2011, 1:59 pm

I ALSO BOUGHT A POLAROID 32″ TV AT THE BLACK FRIDAY BIG EVENT AND MY TV STARTED FIRE WHEN IT WAS NOT ON. IF I HAD NOT BEEN AT HOME AND SEEN AND HEARD IT , IT MAY HAVE CAUGHT MY HOUSE ON FIRE. WHAT IT THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED DURING THE NIGHT.? MY FAMILY AND MYSELF COULD HAVE DIED. I WANT IN ON THE CLASS ACTION SUIT. WHAT DO I NEED TO DO? STILL HAVE THE TV.

  • Chris Spain December 19, 2011, 12:18 pm

I want to know how or what I can do as well!?! I got one of these 32 ” HD TV back in 2007. In 3 months or so the DVD player quit working. Walmart said that it had to be fixed by Polaroid. Called them up and wanted me to mail it to China to be fixed. So that didn’t happen. Lived with not having that DVD player. Then the remote stopped working earlier this year 2011. Called up Polaroid and asked them about codes for my Directv remote. They said that there isno such thing as codes. Are they just stupid or what? No code that Directv had would work eather. Bought 3 different universal remotes from radio shack and all of the remotes had my TV listed with a code. Still didn’t work. Called Polaroid again and they told me I just needed to buy a remote from them for another $30. They are really starting to make me mad by now. So I emailed them. They responded by saying “do not contact us any more” I really hate this company!!! 3 Weeks ago the screen goes black. Tried replacing the 3 capacitors that I saw was bad. The bord smelled hot or burned. But bought the capacitors to replace. Didn’t work!! 3 new capacitors later and still nothing but a red light flashing. There is no parts that are available from Polaroid and they will not offer any advice!!! Very bad customer service and bad and dangerous product. I do know that Walmart has pulled this product from stores and that they no longer have them online eather. I will never buy any Polaroid brand product ever again!!!

    • Bill DeLano February 16, 2012, 7:34 pm

You married to Stacy Ellis? I’m her Uncle Bill. Same problem on my tv. Trying to decide if I am going to replace the capacitors. How much were they? Where did you buy them?
      Bill

  • candace December 21, 2011, 9:36 pm

so are we all out of luck and a tv or is there going to be a refund?

  • Latasha December 27, 2011, 9:48 am

I purchased my polaroid TV a little over 4 years ago. Early this morning i woke up to a very strong smell of smoke in my room. I panicked because i did not know if my house was on fire or what. After frantically running through the entire house i noticd that the smell was only in my room. I soon noticed the smell was coming from the TV. Well, i turned my tv on and it admitted a dark cloudy picture for about 2 seconds and then went completely dark. I am furious! I have no clue what is wrong with my TV but i am furious just pondering the thought that this TV could have caught my house on fire while i was sleeping!

  • Danielle December 30, 2011, 12:45 pm

My story is as many others. DVD player on a 32 in polaroid bought in Feb 2008 stopped working after only months of use. In fact the dvd player still has a dvd stuck inside. As of about 11:00 this morning it is now black with only the sound coming through. I to am furious, but lucky nothing has caught fire.

  • n d hudson December 31, 2011, 7:46 am

My question is has anyone ever really received any compensation from a class action lawsuit. I have been made aware of many that I participated in and have as of yet received a dime.

  • Jim January 2, 2012, 5:24 pm

I had the same issue with a Polaroid LCD that many others have described here. Sound worked just fine, but like others we smelled smoke and the picture when out. I had a total white screen. I had this TV in my child’s room. Scary to think that this could have caught on fire.

  • Lisa January 5, 2012, 12:25 pm

My 27 inch Polaroid tv has sound but no picture. It was manufactured Sept. 2008. How can I be a part of the lawsuit? Thanks

  • Jeanie Erickson January 13, 2012, 7:19 pm

Count me in on the class action law suit. My Polaroid LCD 19″ TV w/DVD player just went black today. Sound still works. Purchased Feb 2009. Called Customer Service w/Polaroid & was told they no longer make this model & they do not have parts. I think a TV should last more than 2 years & 10 months when the purchase price was $329.00 I am not made of money!! What a “throw away” society we now live in–no wonder know one can save any money when we are constantly having to repurchase things that should be lasting alot longer than they do now. Remember when a TV used to last 20-30 years?

  • Joseph Mays January 14, 2012, 8:23 am

My 32″ had the same fate as everyone else televisions. Just glad I was home when it started smoking. Count me in.

  • Kristi Brzezinski January 14, 2012, 7:12 pm

I’m so happy that something is being done about this. It’s so disappointing that a company like Polaroid doesn’t stand behind they’re merchandise. Please let me know if there’s any way to get any of our money back.

  • Buck Johnson January 17, 2012, 9:36 am

I have a 32 in Polaroid LCD TV that just started smoking and quit working yesterday. I hope to hear about what happens in this lawsuit and possibly I can get my $ back or the TV replaced with one that wont try to burn down my house.

  • Ryan Jennings January 18, 2012, 7:34 pm

I have a 32 inch Polaroid LCD TV and it started smoking Monday January 16,2012. It started smoking and caused a fire. I would also like to hear about the lawsuit and become part of this lawsuit as well. This is why people do not trust big organizations.

  • dennis January 19, 2012, 12:38 pm

  • Monty February 8, 2012, 7:34 pm

This just happened to us today with our large flat screen made by Polaroid. How do we get involved with the class action suit?

  • Helen Tobin February 15, 2012, 10:06 am

    February 6, 2012
    Polaroid Company
I would like to issue a formal complaint regarding my Polaroid LCD TV Model# TLX-03210B. I purchased this TV Dec. 26th 2007. Last week smoke began billowing out of the top of the TV. I immediately shut down the power and called 911. I was lucky that I was watching the TV at the time of the occurrence. The TV might have caught on fire unattended. My whole house could have caught on fire. I paid good money for this TV and I expected it to last longer than four years. I called the Customer Service Dept. and the lady said that the circuit breaker within the TV had malfunctioned and the part to fix it would cost $124.00 plus $109.00 shipping and handling. Also I would have to install the part myself or hire and pay a TV Tech to do the job. What kind of Company does not support their own defective parts? And what kind of Company would put out a product that could put lives in danger? I also would like to join the civil acrion suit. Just contact me and tell me how.

    Dissatisfied Customer
    Helen Tobin

  • heather February 15, 2012, 10:33 pm

  • Bill DeLano February 16, 2012, 7:29 pm

Same issue as others. Smoke billowing out if top. Include me in the lawsuit.

  • Benito Efrain Gonzales February 17, 2012, 1:44 pm

Include me in…i bought a 37″ polaroid tv back in 2007 and it has been in the shop twice and now just went out completely and had a humming sound and started smoking. Polaroid makes crap products.

  • Edward Nichols February 20, 2012, 12:54 pm

  • Stephen Lanford February 23, 2012, 11:57 am

Wow, so everyone else is having my problem too. My 32″ LCD popped and the screen went black, but the audio works. Count me in, I saved 4 paychecks for this broken thing!

  • GINA WALKER February 24, 2012, 12:53 am

I bought my Polaroid 32 inch flatscreen on black friday 3 years ago at Walmart. Last night smoke started pouring out of the back of the tv and I quickly jumped up and unplugged it, thank goodness I was here so that it did not burn down the house. I can’t believe that they are still selling this product.

  • mike church February 24, 2012, 3:56 pm

i bought a 42 inch flat screen polaroid tv the sound went first cant turn it up past 30 on volume now i got a black line going threw the middle of tv growing each day . cant get no help from polaroid . i think everyone should know before they spend 800.00 dollars for a tv that wont last 2 years.

  • Robert Gurciullo February 26, 2012, 8:51 pm

How do I get in on this action, I had my poloroid tv repaired 4times and still have a burn mark on the screen. What a nightmare
What can I do to get an upgrade to a better hd TV ?
    Sincerly Robert Gurciullo

  • Richard R. February 29, 2012, 2:05 am

I’ve got a 32″ Tv … It went out, black screen, a few months back. I replaced a bad capacitor( cost me $1 and my time) and it worked, for a couple of months. Replaced it again, same thing…….looking at replacing the capacitor for the third time in 4 months.
Polaroid and their parts supplier should have to repair, replace,or refund.
How do I join the class action?

  • Jim March 1, 2012, 12:16 am

We bought a 42″ Polaroid from Wal-Mart about 4 years ago and in the last 6 months have been getting about a 8″ stripe of black out across the whole t.v. We are looking at having it repaired, but after reading all of the other complaints, I think I will save our money and wait for the whole t.v. to black out and maybe by then there will be a lawsuit in place to recoup part of our money to go buy a new one! We were expecting to get more than 4 years out of a t.v. We have a t.v. from another manufacturer that is at least 20 years old and still works great and has a nice clear picture.

  • Armand Autin March 3, 2012, 4:22 pm

I am from Louisiana how can I join this lawsuit

  • Arthur J. Brooks March 5, 2012, 4:31 pm

I purchased a poloroid flat scree t.v. on 2/21/12 and 2 weeks later it began to over-heat and blow the wall plug outlet . not sure that it was the tv that was blowing the electrical outlets, I plugged the TV into a different outlet and one half hour later it started smoking and blew the electrical outlet. I have to spend my hard earned money to have the electricals wiring in the hallway and living room where I had plugged the Tv. I want re-imbursement for all expenses expended.

  • Kay March 6, 2012, 3:57 pm

I also have a Polaroid model # TDA 03211 C, I can hear it but no picture. I am not going to pay for it to be worked on after reading these issues, I work hard for my money can’t afford the cost. I bought a us6ed Tv older model but hey is still working and has worked longer than the Polaroid. That is sad a $40.00 used TV last me longer than my new expensive one. Then I heard about this just the other day after a friend saw my Polaroid covered in my closet. So I figure my cost and troubles with there product is worth at the least reimbursement from Polaroid. Let see if they respect and consider the customers.Kay S..

I also bought a polaroid flatscreen at Walmart in 2008 for almost $1,000. I would like to be part of this lawsuit. Has anyone received a response?

Just last night my tv died for about a week I was smelling something burning, I thought it was my new hd dvr box from dish.that night my son had some friends stay over and of course they camped out in the living room, than got there was no fire or this incident could have been really bad.

  • Brigitte Cowan March 31, 2012, 9:57 am

I also have a Poloroid LCD that began smoking and nearly set my house on fire. Luckily my grandson came running outside to tell me that the TV was smoking. I want restitution to be made to me, not only for the TV but the 5 years it took off of my life, scaring me out of my wits. Apparently they have known there was a problem and never notified anyone that this was a possibility.

We bought a 50 inch a couple years ago, and we are experiening the same problems and would like to be part of this lawsuit, if anyone could give me any information we would appreciate it. Thank you

I have a 32″ Polaroid. Same model number as mentioned many times on this website. How do I get in on the class action suit? Appreciate any information. Mine did the smoking. It was quite scary. Why was there not a recall??????

  • Claudia B. April 16, 2012, 2:32 pm

I just experienced the same problem! Started with a hissing sound, then it made a popping sound and started SMOKING! Thank God I was there to unplug it quickly! I want to joing this suit.

  • Robert Goodman April 19, 2012, 10:06 am

I would like to be part of this lawsuit as well. My TV is not very old, and I got the black screen of death last night. What a piece of junk.

    • Charles April 29, 2012, 4:27 pm

So what’s the answer? How do we become part of this law suit?

  • Charles April 29, 2012, 4:29 pm

Please answer the question. How do we participate?

  • Carolyn May 1, 2012, 1:15 pm

    Hi,

I have the same problem with my Polarid that I have paid for and I have only had it for 3 yrs. I would like to know how to become a part of this class action lawsuti as well.

  • Carolyn May 1, 2012, 1:35 pm

Hey, I just found out that the original license holder filed bankruptcy so they wouldn’t have to deal with this problem. So when you call the polaroid support number they tell you the solution is to replace the control box that blew out for $150.00 that you can do yourself but buy the part from them. They won’t foot the bill because the new license owner is not accepting responsibility. I won’t be buying nothing that says Polaroid and telling everyone else not to buy their products because they will just take your money and not support what they made.

  • Tim May 11, 2012, 10:42 pm

As I understand it when one buys a name or branded company, they get all the baggage that comes with it. My 32″ died last week, bought it @ WalMart, with the extended warranty. Of course it too died after the warranty, almost to the date of purchase. Whomever bought this company should be held liable for the “companies” transgressions, especially the fraudulent UL mark! Why has the news not picked up on this?? Millions of these defective poloroid branded tv’s were and are STILL being sold!!
I will be trying to contact the attnys listed on the case. I want my money back, with interest, because 2007 dollars were worth more than 2012 ones.

  • Kim Solomon May 18, 2012, 12:01 am

My 32 TLX )3210b Worked fine until last week it just went black. Sound still works. And it looks like it wants to go on I see the logo and channel but fades out within seconds. I was thinking about trying to fix myself, but I don’t think I.m going to bother now. I’d love to recoup a few bucks but how can we get anything if the companie(s) don’t even exist anymore?. At least I feel lucky I got a few heavy usage years out of it without anything more serious happening.

  • Karen Jones May 22, 2012, 7:24 pm

I have a Polaroid 32″ Class LCD HDTV w/ DVD Player & Digital Tuner, TDA-03211C and it reciently went black, over heated and started to smoke too…. How do I get a part of this action?

  • shahrukh June 6, 2012, 5:48 am

I have the 32” polaroid flat screen TV and today it started smoking after just being on for 5 minutes and almost caught on fire. How can I do something about this???

  • Gina Schutz June 10, 2012, 12:30 am

22″ tv/dvd went out on 100th day. It was barely used. Polaroid refuses to do anything. DMI warrenty center in New Jersey doesn’t care. Have been waiting for oversea boards to put into tvs for months. It is there and waiting for a board. May never see it because they are clueless as to when it will come it. Could be a year? Please let anyone and everyone on this site know how to get into this lawsuit. And people, I learned my lesson, I refused to buy anymore Japanese/China products whenever possible. It is not worth the hassel. They build these products for nothing, rip off Americans, and do not stand behind their warrantys. Buy American/union made products when possible, and support our own country!!

  • Mike Gray July 15, 2012, 12:05 pm

Purchased a 32″ flat screen w/built in DVD, in 2011.Within 3 mos the DVD player went out,and now less than 2 years later the screen has gone lime green.Nothing like looking at the blue pacific in puke green, yellow face on judge judy, and green blotches floating on the screen. What a let down in a company I put my money and trust in.I need some info on this lawsuit.Polaroid needs to make this right to the many “burned”consumers like myself.

  • Rudy ZERO July 16, 2012, 4:22 am

hey i have a 40″ tlx-04011c some bastard traded it to me and didnt say the screen was cracked on the inside the he tells me my stuff i traded him was walmart bought trash i think he works for polaroid anyways i saw a comment saying that i would have to buy a new tv that it would be cheaper anyone now about the screen and compatible parts if it ends up breaking like every one elses and as a poster said that the company filed bankruptcy and is not accepting liability i think i will take it out some where nice and quite and murder it with a shotgun. i hate that people do this and then to hear that the company is just as crooked as the guy who traded me its a shame such a shame oh well if any one can help me with a screen i live in SALT LAKE CITY UTAH thank you.

  • Amanda Schneider July 18, 2012, 7:28 pm

Bought this TV 3 years ago and one day I turned it on and after 10 mins it was so hot you could not touch the top. The picture is fine and so are the channels but there’s no sound. I can’t beleive an expensive TV would only last 3 yrs. We bought ours at Wal-Mart as well. After reading about the fires we feel lucky our little 18m old didn’t get burned or burn down our house. Polaroid needs to recall these TVs and make this right by replacing our TV. We work hard for our money.

  • Janae Johnson July 24, 2012, 1:10 pm

I work 40hours p/week and most nights, do not get home until 7 or 8pm (I wake up the next day for work at 6am). While I do watch tv, its not watched like most people as I am rarely home. My tv shows come on mostly Sundays and mondays, (2 hour slots at most). What I’m getting at is I BARELY used the Polaroid TV, most times it was off and so when one day I had it on and I heard this loud noise in another room….I walked to my master bedroom and smelled this burning smell, I couldnt figure out what it was, I walked past the Polaroid for 10 minutes, then my brain finally registered that I “heard” the TV but the TV was “BLACK”. MY TV HAD BLEW OUT, I cut it off and cut it back on and the burning smell got worse, I ran and unplugged every wire. I’m so glad that I heard the noise; imagine if I was one of those people who sleep with the TV on all night….it would’ve caught my house on fire! Where can I sign up!!!

  • David July 24, 2012, 8:09 pm

Is it too late to join this class action? My Polaroid TV lasted 6 months and won’t turn on anymore.

Can anyone forward any information to me on this class action

    Thank you

I have a 39 inhc VISCO brand LCD TV, manufactured by Polaroid, in which the capcitors have burned out. The TV is dead. Is it possible to join this lawsuit?

    Thank you.

  • Jennifer Gross July 29, 2012, 7:12 pm

I too have one of these junk TV’s. About one month after the warranty ran out a blue line on the right side came out and a smokey look spot on the screen. And now the TV will not turn on. I had just went to: http://www.sfmslaw.com/class-action-lawsuits and added my information. I hope they do something about this. We have called and emailed this company and was ignored completely!

  • Mardi Sullivan August 6, 2012, 10:58 am

I also purchased a 19″ Polaroid DVD Combo Model # TDAC-02212 Television from “Target” Saugus, MA and unknown to me that after 90 days the receipt is no good. I purchased my tv on March 30, 2012 and it just stopped working as of August 3, 2012. Can I join this lawsuit regarding this model television. Now I am informed to return my t/v to the manufactur at a cost to me for repair or replacement. Is this worth it I’m already out $200.00

  • Evelyn Nolley August 8, 2012, 1:29 pm

I want to know, if it is too late to get in on this lawsuit, can we file our own? I also have a black screen on the polaroid tv I bought in 2008 at the WalMart Black Friday Sale!!! I thank God that I never saw smoke or any sign of overheating. I just came home an tried to turn it on and it just showed the emblem and then fades to black with no sound, We should have some way of being compensated too.

  • Jennifer rod. August 14, 2012, 11:06 pm

I also bought a Polaroid about 3 yrs ago today I tried turning it on and and keeps shutting down, I would like to get some info on lawsuit can someone mail me please.

  • Eric August 25, 2012, 1:35 pm

Here it is August 25th and see that there’s no real answers here as to how to get in on this lawsuit. Here’s what I had issues with, what I did, and now what I have…

So I have a 37″ Polaroid that had the issue where it started to show a blue light but no picture. I would turn it off, let it sit and then tunr it back on and it would do as it should but then it started to just show the blue light and never a picture.
I looked this up online (this was about 3 years ago by the way) and found the fix on the FixYa web-site. It was to replace the 2 capacitors that went bad which is what caused my issue. Well after going to a local electronics store and paying $2.00 for both of the capacitors (they don’t sell the capacitors that came with the TV, you buy the next power up), needed a soldering iron anyways so bought one of those and some flux. It was easy to get to these on the mother board but a little difficult melting the flux off the existing and pulling the bad ones out and replacing with the new.
After all was said and done my TV was as good as new…. WELL that was until I started to get this dark smudge like image pretty transparent down the middle of my screen (similar to those already in the pics people have posted at the beginning of this post).
I was hoping that this might be something that I can fix myself but after reading about the backlight and having to replace the screen I’m not too sure I want to do that.
Would like to get in on this lawsuit as well but don’t see any assistance as to how to get in on this…

Hi, my name is Angel and i have a Polariod model # TDA 03211C 32″ LCD TV i have the same problem with the capacitor’s.The Two on my TV poped on the top of the capacitor,I went on the internet and they stated they had a kit to fix the problem, so I got it in the mail and replaced what came in the kit, which was to change all the capacitor’s on the board where the two had went bad.So i changed all the capacitors on the board and still the TV screen has no picture. It’s not wright,if everybody is having the same problem they need to pay for there mistake, the consumer shouldn’t have to loose money on something they designed that dosen’t work wright, just like other company’s, they stand up for there item’s and call them back for refund or to replace the part’s that are giving the problem. They got to know they have a problem if there are so many people complaining they need to stand up and face that they failed with the way they designed the Polariod #TDA 03211C Angel Good Luck,Let me know what happen’s so i know whether to can it or what!!!!!!!! Thank You Angel

My 32″ Polaroid with DVD I bought at Walmart, Just made a sizzling noise, and started smoking. Good thing I was in the room at the time, and pulled the plug from the wall. I did try to plug it back in again to see if it still worked. It comes on but no picture, no sound. I see many people have had the same problem. I can’t believe NOTHING has been done! A TV only 3 years old, and these are suppose to be better than “the old big tv’s that are 20 years + old” sitting in our parents houses yet? I do hope something is done to get these Polaroid TV’s off the market before they burn down homes.
I paid $658 with a 3 year warranty. The warranty ran out a couple months ago 🙁
