Ford Focus Wheel Alignment & Tire Wear & Tear Class Action Lawsuit Complaint

Individuals Who Purchased Or Leased 2005 through 2011 Ford Focus Vehicles in California File Class Action Lawsuit Against Ford Over Wheel Alignment & Tire Wear & Tear.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Ford Motor Company (“Ford Motor” or “Ford” or “Defendant”) in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, Sacramento Division (styled Margie Daniel, Robert Mccabe, Mary Hauser, Donna Glass, And Andrea Duarte v. Ford Motor Company Class Action Case No. 2:11-cv-02890-WBS -EFB), alleging, among other things, that Ford designed, manufactured, distributed, marketed, sold, and leased model year 2005 through 2011 Ford Focus vehicles that contain one or more design and/or manufacturing defects that allegedly affect the vehicle’s alignment or geometry and cause the Ford Focus vehicles to become misaligned and the tires to wear out unevenly and prematurely and/or allegedly cause the occupants to experience an extremely rough ride, as well as loud noise, while driving the vehicles and could cause the vehicles to drift while driving on wet or snow-covered roads, according to the Ford Focus Wheel Alignment & Tire Wear & Tear class action lawsuit complaint.

The Ford Focus Wheel Alignment & Tire Wear & Tear putative class reportedly includes, unless otherwise excluded:

All individuals who purchased or leased any 2005 through 2011 Ford Focus vehicle in California and who currently reside in the United States.

The Ford Focus Wheel Alignment & Tire Wear & Tear class action complaint reportedly asserts claims for alleged violation of Consumers Legal Remedies Act, California Civil Code §§ 1750, violation of California Business & Professions Code §§ 17200, Breach of Implied Warranty in violation of Song-Beverly Consumer Warranty Act, Breach of Warranty under Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, 15 U.S.C. §§ 2301 and Breach of Express Warranty under California Commercial Code § 2313.

I had my husband take my car in to the dealer ship- Olathe Ford to have the alignment checked because the tires were making allot of noise. We were told at that time we should have rotated the tired every time we changed the oil, but we were not told that time at time we bought the car.

I need a lawyer here in Tennessee. My key is stuck in the ignition.Went online to see if there were any recalls from Ford.Found lots of complaints as far back as 2000.People with the same problem and some people could not turn there key.

This to happened to me with my 2000 ford focus,Im trying to remember I believe it was because of a button on the shifter console,I had to take it apart and disengage the button and was then able to get my key out. After that I did not have that piticular problem.

We have a 2008 Ford Focus and were told last week we needed new tires. This will be our second set purchased after the factory tires. The last tires we bought were 60,000 mile tires and we are only at 19,000 and need to replace them. My husband and I are struggling to make ends meet enough without having to buy new tires every 1.5 years. We knew something was wrong when we replaced the tires last time and the alignment was “perfect”. The only excuse we were told for the tire wear was that the factory tires they had on the car were cheap. We will be visiting the dealership on Monday with this information ‘in hand’ and hopefully we will get some type of resolution.

I have a 2011 ford focus and my tires went out at about 8,000 miles found out that this car is defective and ford knew about it maybe we should have a ford focus day and drive this junk back to the dealers nationwide .

    • SWhite March 4, 2012, 10:27 pm

We visited the dealership the Monday after I made this post and were told the alignment is still ‘perfect’ so the tires must be causing the issue. We will be putting Cooper tires on for this next set and also taking it to a specialty alignment/suspension shop so we will see of they get to the bottom of the issue. There has to be away to fix the problem. I am tired of waiting for Ford to take action. This lawsuit may take years, who knows.

Good Luck with that. my 2008 focus has 55,000 miles and i am on my third set of tires. the dealership said, oh yes the ford focus is hard on tires but we don’t know why. come on how lame is that.

  • Vincent Totka December 26, 2011, 3:39 pm

I bought a 2010 Ford Focus SE and had tires rotated every 5000 miles. At about 20,000 miles I started complaining of tire noise and dealer “moved” tires around to try to get best ride and noise reduction. Issue continued and eventually could not rotate tires as putting rear tires on the front resulted in shaking of front end and excessive noise. Have 38,000 miles on the car and the front tires are shot. After vehicle was out of warranty, dealer suddenly wants me to replace my tires because of excessive wear. Have been told by tire shops that uneven wear is common and most costumers can not rotate tires due to damage caused by inherent suspension problems.

    • Allen March 28, 2013, 3:09 pm

You should know that some tires cannot be rotated in an X pattern. On some tires, the tread is only designed to be on one side of the vehicle.

I have a 2010 se as well at 100,000 and im at the dealership now buying my third set of tires. I was just told to align at least once a year. Told the man the tires are a year old so that doesnt work. Anyone know the contact info for this lawyer?

  • Pat Higgins March 16, 2012, 11:45 am

I have a 2002 Ford Focus, and the tires have always worn out quickly. I have spent more on tires on this than I ever have with any other previous vehicles that I have ever owned.

    • domingo rosario February 28, 2015, 1:39 pm

I also have a 2002 ford focus and mine does the same thing people say wheel alin and some say control arm and some say wheel bearing which is it!!!

  • Raymond May 5, 2012, 6:24 pm

I was hoping to help all of you out as I too had the same issue however I think I may have solved it for some of you. I had 2 major suspension problems on my 2008 Focus before 50,000 mi were on it. The first was a rubbing issue caused by the splash gaurd. Luckily, my local dealer actually found the problem due to a very specific description from me and they modified it early on preventing a lot of pain. This was causing noise when the suspension was compressed with the wheel turned and could have increased tire wear if it hadn’t been caught before 1000 mi. The second and more important is the terrible sway bar links in the front end. They are undersized and wear out prematurely. I had tire wear and alignment problems until I replaced them with oversized chromoly parts around 45,000 mi. Since then, the ride hasn’t been better and I have had the same set of tires with minimal wear for 25,000 mi. I am thinking the loose ball joints in the links must have been causing the alignment to vary while driving on anything but the flattest of pavement. This would have made it impossible to get a good alignment in the first place. I got lucky and decided to upgrade the right part. I know this shouldn’t be the owners responsibility but at least you might be able to make the best out of a bad situation with this info.

    • Lauren July 30, 2012, 12:30 pm

      Dear Raymond,

Thank you for the post. I am on my 4th set of tires, which are wearing every 22K miles, AND I had the front sway bar links replaced while the car was still under warranty. In common with others here, I was told by the dealer after my first set of Hancook’s wore out that I had probably got a bad set of tires (they came with the car). The wear I am seeing is on the inside of the front tires (mostly passenger side). I am told that this is unusual for alignment issues, but I am not a mechanic. Fortunately, I do have a very trusted mechanic and I will see about the possibility of fitting my focus with oversized links (if I read your post correctly). I have always bought American made cars by American car companies, but I am sorry to say that I am through with Ford because of this issue. The run around I got from the Dealership at the time was annoying enough, but to see now that Ford seems to have known about the defect is truly nauseating.

    • Neil July 30, 2012, 3:07 pm

Hi can you give me details of the fix and cost and parts information please.

      • Neil July 31, 2012, 8:58 pm

        Hi Lauren and Raymond
My car is experiencing the same issues and am trying to get the dealers to look at the links. I like you am reluctant to ever purchase again form Ford. I will at sell it and purchase a foreign car.

        Thanks for your comments.

    • Stuart May 15, 2014, 6:49 pm

      Hello Raymond
Where can I buy the oversized Chromoly parts? What do I ask for? 2010 Focus SEL Front wheel inside wear.
      Sincerely
      Stuart

  • Tony Stuart May 8, 2012, 8:24 am

I had factory tire issues at 20,000 miles. The tires were cupped as though someone had squeezed them out of round! I was told the car is light in the rear that at high speeds the tires hop off the pavement. This causes the tires to flex and after repeated pounding they break down like a tin can would if you kept squeezing it. Rotating tires helps as does putting some weight in the trunk. Pay extra for fuel in less mileage because of extra weight or pay more for tires and have a bad ride was what I was told. Cheap car great for commuting in city only….

    • Steve May 11, 2013, 12:26 pm

I have 2008 focus with same cupping issue on rear… even the kids at walmart new immediately what the rough ride was from as soon as I said Ford Focus… my question is, How much weight is needed to stop the bounce?

      • Joel July 2, 2013, 4:30 pm

Has nothing to do with the weight. Its the toe adjustment. Has everything to do with poor design. Have it aligned every 500 miles. Firestone has a lifetime alignment for around 200.00, and I have been using the heck out of it. I am replacing my cam bolt with one made by moog. It should hold the alignment better after that. Good luck.
They told me that same weight story too, its complete crap. As long as i keep up on the alignments, my tires are fine.

  • Mike M May 9, 2012, 3:23 pm

We bought a 2009 Focus new off the dealer lot in Maine. I’m on my third set of tires at about 31K miles. We have done all the needed maintenance and have documentation. (rotated tires, had alignments, etc. )
Had a go around with Ford customer support. In the end they said there was nothing they could do because all the alignments were within specs.
Something is obviously wrong here. Never had a car go through tires like this. I think Ford knows there is a problem but don’t want to publicly admit it. Have been a Ford customer for over 20 years but no more.
How about a nationwide class action lawsuit?

    • candie s. July 19, 2012, 8:33 pm

Could Mike M from Maine please contact me. My case is almost exactly as you have stated, right down to the mileage. I too bought off the dealor lot here in Maine. 2009 Ford Focus SEL. Similar mileage. I really would like to tackle this with someone from Maine also.

      • Steve January 1, 2015, 9:44 pm

2011 Ford Focus SE purchased in New Brunswick Canada. Exact same issues. I drive my car a lot and go thru (only) rear tires every few months. I was told by a repair shop that the rear bushings (and a few other parts that I cannot remember) are actually a Mazda spec on the focus and therefore give to much camber no mater how it is aligned and can be fixed but the parts would cost about 5 or 600 dollars. The car should be recalled and compensated for all the additional tires that we all had to buy.

  • Brneda Anderson May 19, 2012, 6:54 pm

I think Oregon should be able to get in on that class action lawsuit against Ford!

  • Bill Sinor June 4, 2012, 4:45 pm

I to have a 2011 ford focus with the same tire and front end problem.Already Replaced two tires at less then 20,000 miles.I would like to know more about how to fix the problem . I purchesed the car in and live in Texas and would like to be part of any class action lawsuite

  • Ian Huff June 12, 2012, 2:23 pm

I have a 2011 Focus and I have reacently purchesed the car and one of the defects of the alingment of the car is that it has no adjustment to the camber of the front drive wheels. I have put 10,000 miles on the bran new tires that came on my car and have hade 1 blow out and have one about to go because it is wore down past the secondaries on the inside of the tire, on top of that i get them rotated every oil change but it still dosen’t help. If anyone has any info on the mater plz wright me back thank you Ian Huff.

  • Bob K June 23, 2012, 12:52 pm

I have the tire wear problem on my 2011 Focus, 22700 miles and tires are shot. They have been rotated and balanced every 5 thousand miles. Dealers say Ford needs to make the call for any help, calling Ford customer service is a joke, they have never called back in spite of my repeated calls to them. It looks at this time that putting a new set of tires, and an alignment job is the only answer, then trade it off on ANYTHING but another Ford product, EVER.

    • Bob K January 5, 2014, 1:31 am

Me, Bob k again, I put on premium tires and gave it another try, now at just over 49000 miles they are shot, right rear in particular. So I got 26000 miles out of this set. WHOO HOO!!!!

Time to trade this crap ford off and go back to a Subaru, I have had 5 of them and never a hint of a problem on any of them.

  • Joe P June 29, 2012, 1:28 pm

Any class action suit in New York having the same problem with my Focus

  • charles n July 16, 2012, 3:50 pm

you can add a 2012 focus, rear wheels cupped and wore out before 20000 miles, we had an alignment done at 6000 miles, we were told by ford and dealer we did not maintain car properly. or it could be our driving style or pot holes. the dealer tried to sell us tires at their cost, we are located in new york

  • candie s. July 19, 2012, 8:03 pm

I also live in Maine….help…anyone??? Extremely frustrating. 2009 Ford Focus. Bought brand new off the lot. Loved the car, until 19,000 miles. Started noticing the increase in “noise”, wondered what in carnation is that?? Took it to “Big” Ford Dealer’s automotive shop. Said my front tires were worn uneven. Already??? Was told the tires put on at factory were cheap. Time to get “good” tires. They tried to tell me I needed all four so it would ride well. Well, I could only afford 2, bought, installed and allignment done. I have all the records of every visit to automotive shop….did everything that was recommended…tire rotation, EVERYTHING as I paid up front for a 60,000 mile “Service Plan”….I know…STUPID. Next visit 2 more “front” tires. Next visit 2 more front tires and told I needed an allignment…so I did. Was also told Ford put “too big a tire” on the Focus… Went today at 37,000…yup….needed 2 more front tires….. I was upset to say the least. So my car off the factory line has gone through three sets of tires. While the car was up on the lift…I looked at the tires…yup. Completely worn in inside front Left tire. Oh, almost forgot…Right front sway bar replaced. Hmmmmm. Well, enough is enough. I DID NOT buy two more tires. I have drove the car home and decided to research if others have had these issues…BINGO…but what to do. Can I join the Class Actin Lawsuit against FORD…or do I go at it alone.

  • Laurent Morin July 27, 2012, 11:08 pm

I have bought a 2009 Ford Focus and this is my 4th set of tires, my last 2 sets only last a few weeks. The dealer told me that was because of alignment issues. But for 2 sets going in less than 25,000 km it is unlikely. I live in Canada, New Brunswick and the dealers believe that Ford Focus don’t go out of alignment just like that.

  • Phil August 10, 2012, 5:37 pm

Just bought a new 2012 Ford Focus in RI. I had it 5 days and scraped the back passenger tire against the curb while going about 3 mph. The tire that came with the car blew. I was told that it was my fault and was not covered. So I went to Sear to buy a new tire. Sear checked the alignment and told me that it was way off. Really? Was it off when I purchased it or because a scraped a tire against the curb? Does it take so little to throw off the alignment? Reading the posts, I hope that I’m not in for a nightmare of frequent changing tire and alignments.

  • AMY OLIVER August 24, 2012, 1:16 pm

I am looking for a Class Action Lawsuit to join as well! I live in Alabama and am having the same issue. I have a 2010 Ford Focus bought brand new and I have to put new tires on it every year. It’s rediculous! It’s funny to me that Ford knows about this, persay I am sure everyone has called Ford just as I have, yet Ford acts like they don’t know what we are talking about. My car seems to have a bottoming out sound when I go over dips in the road. It’s horrible. I just with Ford would make it right for selling me a bad car. I don’t have $17,000 just to throw away!

  • David P August 25, 2012, 4:42 pm

I have a 2002 focus that has gone through 3 sets of tires in 50,000 miles. The tire dealer told me the focus is a great car but they all eat tires like there’s no tomorrow. I’ve also replaced the rear wheel bearings 3 times (about every 6 mos.). And I don’t drive like a gear head either, so that’s out of the equation. I inherited this car from my wife when we got married and sold my 1990 Accord with 236,000 miles on it- What a mistake! The tire shop told me he has been running Bridgestone Insignias with 35lbs. and rotating every other oil change and they seem to be holding up the best. Of course that was the most expensive among the tire options he gave me. I was at a Ford dealer a few weeks ago and saw a new 2012 Focus on the lot, it was a really sharp looking car -leather seats and all the options – $ 28,000 sticker for a car that goes through a set of tires every 10-20,000 miles-10years later and Ford still hasn’t fixed the problem. They just keep rolling ’em down the line! I too have the same problem with the ignition key, I have to take my fist and beat on the end of the key to get it to start if I remove the key from the ignition. It seems to me that they should take the suit back to atleast 2002 since this problem has been going on clear back then!

  • John B August 31, 2012, 8:08 am

Wow, I thout the Jack Williams Car Care Center was pulling my leg when I got 18,000 miles out of a 50,000 + rated tire. Generel replaced under warranty with the pro-rating. Same tire same results 2nd time around. I have a 2007 Ford Focus SE. Same with the fron sway bars also.

  • Thomas DeNino September 2, 2012, 6:56 am

Some very interesting comments about tire noise and premature tire wear. I just replaced the tires on my wife’s can and had the 4 wheels aligned. I always complained about tire noise and premature tire wear on her 2005 ford focus so I decided to surface the web for information and came across this forum. The new set of tires are, Duran 195/60R15’s. The dealer said we should get up to 65K tire mileage if we have a 4-tire alignment, keep the tires inflated properly, and rotate every 5,000 miles.
But what really brought me to this site was the fact the Ford Focus tires do make noise and wear out faster than what I think is normal. We had 3 different brand names tires on the car and all delivered the same poor results. The car now has 76,000 miles on it, and we’ve replaces tires 4 times. That’s an average of a whopping 19,000 miles per set. Not exactly what I call good performance.

  • Dianne Dietrich September 10, 2012, 12:08 pm

I just took my 2011 Ford Focus SE in because I was having tire issues and noise. I was told I needed 4 new tires and that the current tires I had on were not only illegal on the road due to the 2 tread reading but also that the abnormal wear was obviously indicative of an alignment issue. I purchased the platinum care package when I purchased my vehicle and have the tires routinely rotated when they change the oil so either they covered up the issue or it happened in less than 3000 miles. Dishonesty from Ford has completely changed how I feel about their product and I will be finding a way to help them learn to be responsible for their mistakes.

  • Brad Geisler September 19, 2012, 3:53 pm

2008 Focus SES has 83000 on it going on the 3rd set of tires, Tire Pros say it is the Shock absorbers are too light in the rear. need legal help to get to Ford Motor co. from Wisconsin

  • danielle September 23, 2012, 2:19 pm

My 2009 ford focus is horrible on tires. I have replaced and done allignments on my car right around every 6 months. I have had the car for 3 years and have replaced all tires 6 times already! And each time I get it alliigned!

  • rebecca jarrell doss September 27, 2012, 8:26 am

please someone help I drive 600 miles per week. I have a 09 ford focus it never stays aligned goes thru tires like all the times. needs new struts now 600.00 dollers. please contact about the lawsuit I live in virginia. rebecca jarrell doss. bbryson63@aol.com.

  • Lela Tulley October 2, 2012, 7:42 am

I have the same issues with alingnment and burning through tires due to eneven wear. 2008 Focus – 3rd set of tires. Please tell me how to become part of this lawsuit.

  • Warren Brown October 6, 2012, 2:06 pm

I bought my focus brand new in 2008. I now have just over 46000 miles on the car and just put the 3rd set of tires on the car. The fronts wear completely bald on the inside edge. I have not had dealer issues yet because I haven’t said anything yet. Although when they told me at 20000 mi I need 4 new tires I questioned that. I was told Oh they’re factory tires and aren’t really the best. I was a mechanic and I know that car manufacturers will put cheap tires on new cars ( Buick did this for years) but after only getting less than 20000 mi on 80000 mile Hankooks I don’t believe it. I am going to call the dealer but I expect a run around. Hopefully (but doubtfully) they’ll take care of me. They’ve been good so far. We’ll see what happens. I really want in on this suit though.

  • Frodo Baggins October 8, 2012, 8:39 pm

I tried the rotation on my 2010 SE and get charged by Ford every time. Made it to 50K on the tires and just noticed today that the driver’s front is bald on the inside. Love the car but how about free rotation???????????

  • Charles Martz October 19, 2012, 9:22 am

I have the same issue with my 2008 Ford Focus. The tires in the rear are wearing out just the inside edge of the tire. The shop that did the alignment on my car stated that there is not enough room to adjust tire alignment corectly. The shop basically stated that every 10 to 12 thousand miles I will need a new set of tires for the rear.

    • Emlyn Fanjoy October 23, 2012, 5:47 pm

from Maine I want to cry I have a 2008 ford focus new tires all around 3 months ago front tires wearing on inside the dealer tells me I need springs and struts and maybe new plates because it won’t go into alignment the date is 10/23/12 please help before next Tuesday they want about $500

  • K.Williams October 24, 2012, 5:39 pm

I have a 2011 Focus SEL. It currently has 68,000 miles and I have put 16 new tires on the rear of this car since I purchased it 1.5 years ago. It had 26,000 miles on it then. Typically front wheel drive eats the front tires faster if there not rotated. Not this car. All alignment specs are right on the money!! 30 psi and the rubber looks like its being shaved off. Then it gets to ridding so rough and shaking, makes you wanna be sick. How do I get in on this lawsuit??

  • Gary October 24, 2012, 7:51 pm

Third set of tires today at 55,000 miles. Had new sway bar links and alignment at around 40,000 miles but didn’t help. Tires seem to go at about 15,000 miles. I run e’m a little longer just a bouncing down the road……Waiting to see the new Chevy Cruze diesel and maybe trade in on it……No more Fords. What I saved on fuel, I had to put into tires…..May as well have bought a bigger car.

  • Michael Cooper October 27, 2012, 3:27 pm

I am having to purchase a third set of tires on my 2009 Ford Focus. The last set were guaranteed for 65000 miles but they are worn after 30000 miles. I have a constant shimmy though I have had an alighnment and rotate my tires. There is a fundamental problem with this car that I bought in Iowa.

  • DENIS V ANDERSON November 12, 2012, 5:35 pm

Purchased a new 2008 Ford Focus for $ 17,000 and have shared the same horror with the tires wearing out way too fast and making loud noises going down the road. Rides rough and has been only a headache since purchased, used to own a Taurus and Never had this Problem. Have always driven Ford vehicles but Not Happy with the Focus!!

  • Hans agren November 12, 2012, 9:53 pm

2008 focus, huge tirewear, major front end shake above 60 mph. Mechanics scratching their head, no clue what the problem is.

  • solomon Haizimsqu November 13, 2012, 2:43 pm

I have same problem .On my third set of tires ,replaced rotors and parts still have ,the shimmy.

  • Jennifer VanHorn February 18, 2013, 3:03 pm

I have a 2008 Ford Focus SE on the 3rd set of tires. The original tires only got about 20,000 miles on them and were warranted for 40,000. Replaced those with 80,000 mile tires, cost $600, got about 30,000 on them because I was misinformed by Sears where I purchased them. I took the car into Sears every 3,000 miles for oil change and every other oil change had them rotate the tires. When the tires were installed I asked Sears if I needed an alignment and they stated no it was fine. After about the 3rd tire rotation they stated the tires weren’t wearing properly and I needed an alignment and since they didn’t do it at the time they installed the new tires it was going to cost me twice as much for the alignment. I wasn’t happy with the service or tires from Sears, they were fuel max tires was supposed to get better gas mileage and got 6 miles less on the new tires than the old ones I replaced. Finally I took the car to a shop and had them look at the alignment/tires. The tires were shot after 30,000 miles, didn’t even get half of the warranty that I paid for. The shop told me that I needed to have cambers installed because Ford neglected to make the car so the alignment could be adjusted and to keep the tires from wearing out, they were cupping. Hope I’m explaing this right. I went online and researched and found that installing the camber kits does help with the problem. My cost to the shop for alignment and installation of the 2 camber kits $510 plus 4 new tires, 3rd new set. I’ve contacted the dealer where I purchased the car and they have no knowledge of the Focus having any issues with abnormal tire wear. I called another local dealer got basically the same response. I then called Ford at their 800# and again no knowledge of any problem. When I asked them to go online and google 2008 Ford Focus alignment problems they stated once again not to their knowledge. I will never buy another Ford product. Please let me know if their is a class action lawsuit, I live in Utah. People beware this is dangerous if you don’t get it fixed. Good luck and thank all you for your posts.

My 2010 Focus has less than 40,000 miles on it and the tires have been replaced twice!!

Is there a class action suit about this problem in Michigan? I haven’t found out after calling several law firms.

I put $5,ooo down and traded a perfectly good running 2001 Saturn for a 2009 Ford Focus thinking I was going to have piece of mind owning a brand new car. With completely easy driving and regular rotations,I have bald tires at only 34,000 miles on the car. It runs great with awesome gas mileage, bad a bad wear problem.Ford dealership said they never heard such a thing. BS!!!

    2011 Ford Focus
Third set of tires now. This new pair has less than 2000 miles and is already wearing. We thought that the first alignment could have been normal, but now we know we did nothing. Bad enough that you pay for the car payment and insurance, now you have to buy new tires every month too!

I have a 2011 Ford Focus and I’m on my second set of tires with 22,000 miles. Car is very loud when at driving speed. Just found out the front axels were defective and I got them fixed and pick up the car today. I am trying to get Ford to pay for my tires since it’s their fault. I am from Pennsylvania. If there is anyone else from Pennsylvania, I would like to start a class action lawsuit here. If I had this car paid off, it would be gone.

My 2005 Ford Focus ZX3 has a very loud hum coming from the rear wheels… sounds like big cleated tires on a big truck. Has only 55,000 miles. This noise starts at 10 MPH and continues on up to 70 MPH.

Had the wheel bearing replaced on my left rear wheel, but the noise continues. It sounds so loud and scary… like the wheel might fall off.

thankfully Firestone has lifetime alignments for 200.00. Too bad I have to bring my car in every one thousand miles to have the alignment corrected. Ford needs to fix this crap. I was about to go out and buy after market suspension parts. I may wait now to see what happens. I hope they loose their ass in court. 94000 miles on my 2008 focus and have had four sets of tires and countless alignments. I will be happy to provide all my service records to any lawyer who wants to eat ford for lunch over this!

I have put 4 sets of tires on this car and its due for its 5th right now and every time I have put tires on this car I have rotated them correctly and always due allignment witch is always fine. Ford or my dealer will do nothing to fix this and blame me!!!! my car has 86k now seriously frusterated going in for a battle with Ford something must be done!!! The cupping and unusual wear patteren is dangerous and causes my car to shake not to mention the bald spots on my tires. Im looking for an attorney I want to eat Ford for lunch over this! Holy cow, I thought I was the only one with tires wearing prematurely. I’ve got my 2008 Focus (150,000 miles) in the shop right now with the sway bar being replaced, along with 2 rear shocks, an alignment, tire rotation, annual inspection, and the mechanic says the front tires are worn and need replacing. I decided not to replace the front tires right away, as they will be going on the back. Even still the total bill is, ouch, 600 dollars. I bought all 4 tires within a year and a half.

  • Jim R. October 3, 2013, 11:10 am

I’m having the same problem with a 2010 Focus here in Michigan. I was just told at the dealer (10/3/13) that we needed new tires, this would be the 3rd set in less than 60,000 miles. One young service tech tried to tell me it was the short wheel base that was the problem. I told him that didn’t make any sense since almost all roads in our area are straight, I could understand if there was a lot of turning done in normal driving – possibly. Another service tech said it was the high power and low weight of the Focus. Again, that doesn’t hold water since there’s just a little 4 cylinder engine in there and that type problem would have been all over the news since Datsun sold the first B210.
Is there a class action suit that covers the country or Michigan?

  • Orlando Guilarte October 9, 2013, 2:27 pm

I bought a 2010 ford Focus and am on the third set of tires with 53000 miles on the car. I think Ford must know about this issue and won’t do anything about it since there were so many Focuses sold and isn’t a safety concern in their eyes, but it is a very serious matter because the bad tires can cause a blowout. Step up to the plate Ford and get this fixed!! I’m very disappointed with this vehicle.

    • Orlando Guilarte October 9, 2013, 2:28 pm

My e-mail is cojonuo1@aol.com. Anyone please get back with me if you find a solution to this problem. Thank you.

We have a 06 Focus and experienced the same problem with excessive tire wear, we were lucky to get 20,000 out of a set even with selecting difference manufactures.

I eventually had the rear alignment checked and discovered the rear end had a negative 1.5 camber. The alignment specialist was able to lower the rear sway bar which brought the camber to 0 degrees.

The drive ability and ride of the car improved immediately, less road noise and also less wear on the tires.

I have a 2010 Ford Focus SE with 23,000 miles. The car has always made noise when driving. At 50 MPH, decibel reading is 85 (no radion, with windows up). The left front tire, inside tread, is worn much worse than the outside. I rotated the tires, and now the rotated tire is showing the same issue. I took it to alignment shop: everything was within specifications. I have about had it with this car. If you get a law suit going in Georgia, or one I can join, let me know.

  • Robin (pissed off Focus Owner) April 14, 2014, 12:56 pm

Bought 2012 Focus w/ 120 miles and continental factory tires. Rotate tires every 6000 miles. Had ford check the alignment because of feathering on the inside of the rear tires when I rotated for the first time. At 14000 miles got 4 new Hancook Ventus *40,000 mile tire* tires on 1 May 2013. Saturday 12 April 14 noticed tire noise and took it back to the shop where I bought my tires thinking it was broken belts in driver rear tire. When they pulled the tires on the rear (driver rear was the worst) we found extreme wear to the insides of both rear tires. there is 23,400 miles on the ODO. The tires shop replaced the rear tires today as I am always out on the hwy due to country living. Took the worst tire accross the street to ford shop and now have an appt for Wed. 16 April 2014 at 8 am to have rear struts replaced. They will also be doing an allignment check *but dont know it yet* I want ford to pay for my last 6 tires cause Ive had the car in their shop 4 times now for this same complaint and the problem is obviously with the car not the operator. I AM NOT A HAPPY PERSON! esp after comming home and researching this problem further.

  • Brandon Hockaday April 23, 2014, 11:17 pm

I also have a 2008 Ford Focus SE. Same story. Tires wear on the front insides every 25k or so (or about once a year), even though the tires are rated at 55k-60k+. I knew something had to be up so did a little research and found this page, as well as tons of other people talking about it on forums all over the internet. But no real solution. Why hasn’t there been a recall yet? And/or a nationwide class action? This is absolutely ridiculous. I’ve never had tires wear like this on any other vehicle I’ve ever owned.

  • Mark Lozar May 6, 2014, 9:37 am

Baught an 08 Focus a year and a half ago with 54,000 on it, it now has almost 75,000 on it and time for the 3rd set of tires! All instenses above my comment fit my prob to a tea! Ford needs to man up and fix there F—K up and then pay all owners of this piece of crap there money for all sets of tires and alignments we have done to try to fix it!

  • ronald burdine June 18, 2014, 1:14 pm

I am so sick of buying tires for my ford focus,I have a 2007 and I have had to change my tires somany times because the rear get cupped out with in 19,000 miles and am sick of having it lined up all the time,I wish ohio had a law suit.I am done with fords

  • Wessel Cronje September 8, 2014, 9:32 pm

I have a 2011 Focus SE with 75 000 miles on it and on the fourth set of tires. Rotate them every 5000mile after oil change. Dealer is adamant that there is no problem with the vehicle. Check my wheel alignment every 20 000 miles and every time it is within spec. The main problem is excessive wear and cupping on the inside of the tire. One set of tires were worn to steel in valleys and had about 1/32 tread left on crown while the outside still had about 50% thread left.

  • J Alt September 22, 2014, 1:01 pm

If there is class action law suit let me know. Have 2010 Focus SE 55,500 miles on it. The last 5,000 mile the tires worn out. It happen all at once for me. I change my own oil go through the car check for issues . At 50,000 miles I notice some wear. I decided to keep an eye out on it. At 55.000 they where wore out. It only affected the front two tires for me.

  • rich September 27, 2014, 5:34 pm

We have 2010 SES Focus having same issues as read above. Rotate tires every oil change, re balance tires when rotated. We have purchased three sets of tires and even had a set replaced free because they wore out before warranty. Replaced cam bolts, shocks in rear, ball joints and tire rods in front have had front and rear alignments done now being told front struts need replacing.

  • Katherine Wagner November 2, 2014, 10:25 am

I have a 2007 Ford Focus SE and am starting to have these same rear tire cupping/ bad allignment problems. I live in San Diego, CA. Is there still a way to be a part of this class action lawsuit?

  • Mark Nelson December 5, 2014, 7:53 pm

Just bought a 2007 Focus SE this past August with only 24k miles. The right rear tire at around 30k miles was wearing diagonally all the way across the tire. Replaced rear lower connecting links, had to replace the rear tires. Had wheel alignment done which also was needed. The car on winter roads from asphalt to ice and snow is almost impossible to drive. The back end is all over the place. It is white knuckle. My kids cant even read in the back seat there is so much back and forth. Really unsafe to drive!! I’m told it is probably my tires, but I don’t believe after doing a lot of research into this problem. There definitely is a problem Ford has with this model car. I gave up a 1998 Toyota Camry with 168,000 miles thinking I was getting almost a new car. I wish I would have done my homework before purchasing a Ford Focus.

  • Gary J December 20, 2014, 3:40 am

I have a 2009 Focus SES that has a tire balancing issue. Have had it in for balancing 4 times over the past 6 weeks. Each time it runs smooth over 65 MPH for about 1 to 2 weeks, then starts vibrating again. And each time “Tire Discounters” says the tires were “out of balance”. The tires look good, no sign of cupping or uneven wear.

  • yvette gleason January 5, 2015, 4:03 pm

Is this class action suit still active? I have a 2008 Ford Focus and every year I have to put a new set of tires on it. Just recently I was told it would cost me 1000.00 to fix problems with my alignment?

  • Darrell Crager January 16, 2015, 2:18 pm

Got a 2012 focus sle and having the tire problems. I live in ms. get the same run around from laural ford.

  • Ryan H March 3, 2015, 4:13 pm

My 2011 Focus has 71,000 miles on it and needs it’s third set of tires. Had alignment done once already and need it again. How do I get on this class action lawsuit?

  • jeffrey mahaffey May 4, 2015, 5:45 pm

I have a 2007 focus bought it new. I can not tell you how many tires I have bought. I bought another set of tires last fall, it is now May and the jitters are starting again. Time for more tires. NO MORE FORDS FOR ME.

    • Leo DelRosario May 28, 2015, 2:21 pm

I bought a new 2011 Ford Focus for my wife and was happy with its until I noticed the unusual wear on the tires and the road noise becoming louder at a little after 20000 miles. The inside half of the tires where worn. My wife replaced the tires at costco and they recommend that the alignment be checked. I decided to wait to see if its was just the cheap tires that originally came with the car. I did not have the tires rotated also to verify that its was in fact because of the front end. When i took the car in to the ford delear for the free oil change they offer they noticed the wear on the tires and reccommed that I have them change the tires. This was at about 40000 miles on the car and about 20000 miles on the tires. The service guy said that the focus just wears harder on tires and that its probably just needs the alignment checked. So I replaced the tires with much better tires at the tire shop I trust (I have my 4×4 truck tires and alignment done there for years). At about 45000 miles later my wife took the car on a 1500 mile trip and when she returned she said there was a loud hum coming from the car and that highway speed the front end shook.. I checked the front tires and there was wear on the inside of the tires down to the steel just about an inch wide this time. I guess the alignment helped. I drove it to the tire shop and noticed a worn wheel bearing sound. The tire shop changed all the tires this time I went cheap. They also checked the alignment and test drove it. They told me that at last one wheel bearing needed to be replace. So yesterday I took the car to the dealer to be checked out. They confirmed that both front wheel bearings need to be replaced. Then today I find this site and wonder did the dealer know all along what the problem was and didn’t tell me when the car was under warranty. This makes me mad. Is the lawsuit over and if not how can I join it?

Bought a brand new 2012 Ford Focus. I have 60,000 miles on it and need to put a third set of tires on. I am on a tight budget and can not afford to replace tires every 18 months. Does this class action lawsuit include the 2012 models? If so – I want in.
