Chrysler Dodge Journey Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Filed Over Chrysler Dodge Journey Brake Pads & Brake Rotors

Chrysler Dodge Journey Owners and Lessees File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Chrysler Over Alleged Defects In the Dodge Journey’s Braking System’s Brake Pads and Rotors.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Chrysler Group LLC (“Chrysler” or “Defendant”) in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (styled Gabriella Tatum and Jamie Meyer v. Chrysler Group LLC, Civil Case No. 2:10-cv-04269-DMC -JAD) alleging, among other things, that the 2009 and 2010 Chrysler Dodge Journey suffers from a design defect in its braking system in that the brake pads and rotors are too small and thin to handle the braking duties required by the size and weight of the Chrysler Dodge Journey purportedly resulting in an increase in brake wear and causing brakes to potentially fail as early as 12,000 miles, requiring early replacement of brake pads or shaving or resurfacing of brake rotors, according to class action lawsuit news reports.

The Chrysler Dodge Journey brake pad and brake rotor class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of the following class of persons, unless otherwise excluded:

All (i) current owners or lessees of a 2009 or 2010 Dodge Journey in New Jersey or California; and (ii) former owners or lessees of a 2009 or 2010 Journey in New Jersey of California who paid for a repair related to the Braking System (the “Class”).

The Chrysler Dodge Journey brake pad and brake rotor class action lawsuit complaint reportedly alleges statutory violations of the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act (N.J.C.F.A.), N.J.S.A 56:8-1 et seq., California Consumers Legal Remedies Act (CLRA), Cal. Civ. Code § 1750 et seq., California Unfair Competition Law (UCL), Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 17200 et seq. and Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, 15 U.S.C. § 2301 et seq., and breach of express warranty.

I purchased my 2009 Dodge Journey in April of 2009 a little over a year later and 20,000 miles I was told I needed new front brake pads. After getting them replaced a week later I started getting a rattling/vibration sound in my front wheel well and the dealreship thought it was my breaks again but they appeared to be fine. Afetr further inspection they said the pads were yet again defective. I am now on a waiting list to get new brakes since they are on back order. But why replace brakes with brakes that are defective and people are continuing to have problems with. I have never needed to get my brakes replaced so soon and so often. I hope Chrsyler fixes this problem ASAP, since it is a safety hazard.

I ran into the same thing, however, I was told that breaks were not part of the 3 year warranty, it is considered normal wear and tear based on “how I drive”. I told them I was a conservative driver, that in my city of the most aggressive drivers I constantly get honked and flipped at as I refuse to gun it at each green light, and I actually slow down before getting to turns and red lights. Go figure, now the car is out of warranty and you can bet they won’t do anything for me now. I’m on the third set of breaks and rotors in 2.5 years

I bought my 09 Journey in April of 2008…at 12,000 miles new brakes, then again at 18,000 miles brakes and rotors. it is Oct 2010, and i have had new brakes and rotors replaced 5 times!!!..it is in the shop know because of the wheel shaking again!!!.the caliber has also been replaced..the car is not good in the snow at all!!..the tires are horrible and wear often..very expensive for CHEAP TIRES!!!..also my car starts when it wants too..its been in 5 times for not starting, at first it was the starter, which was replaced, that still didnt work, then they said it was the wiring harness(which has been replaced twice), Darcars had my car 2 weeks, the very next day it WOULDN’T START!!!!..something is deathly wrong with the electrical system!!!..I have filed complaints and have 2 cases ongoing now!!..Now i must say that the dealer and mechanics have been very supportive….I hope nobody gets seriously hurt, while their covering their tracks!!!

I live in Oregon and have had the same problem. How do I join the class action lawsuit?

I wish that I had known this before! My Dodge Journey RT has been nothing short of a Night Mare! With 36,000 miles on it, I am returning it to the bank. Well, I notified them two months ago, but they have not picked it up. I purchased my 2009 Dodge Journey in August 2008. Here is a list of the many problems I had: New brakes & rotors before I would even take it off the lot! Then new brakes & rotors again within the first year at over $800. Eight months later~ New brakes & rotors needed Again! The transmission went the first year which Dodge replaced but it still skips gears! The mirror covers fell off! I had the rear tire blow completely off the car with the tread still in new condition but was denied any help from Dodge. A few months later the fron passanger tire blew! Again, no help from Dodge. Each time something went wrong, my car was off the road for weeks, and Dodge refused to give me a loaner car! The Kumaho tire warehouse is in California and they had none in stock! When I called them they told me Sears was an authorized dealer. I called Sears and was told that the tires were “crap” and that they did not keep them in stock! It took almost two weeks for me to get tires! When I called the dealership they said they had no control of Kumaho and that it was Not their problem! New tires over $1,000! The air bag light has been on for several months! After waiting for weeks, the dealership replaced the sensor. Of course this didn’t work! Then I was told that it was the module and that would take another 1-2 weeks to get the part. When I asked about a loaner due to not having a driver’s air bag, I was told not to worry about! Peole drove cars for years without air bags! Really!? Well the garage didn’t feel that way when I called for my inspection! I was told that the car would not pass inspection if the air bag light was on! I paid $3000 down on this car, and have paid over $2,000 in repairs on top of my $400+ car payment every month!! My credit is now shot because of Dodge but I am DONE! We own a 1999 Ford F150 and have only done $2000 worth of repairs in 11 yrs! I am now driving a 1999 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer! It is more dependable and in excellent condition! NEVER BUY DODGE!

Unfortunately I have had the same problem with my brakes. I purchased my car in 2008 of July and after six months of owning the vehicle I needed pads and rotors. I recently replaced them again in April of 2010. Now I need rear pads and rotors, talk about costly. Please include me with the lawsuit, this is ridiculous.

  • Jeff October 20, 2010, 8:27 am

Same old story; Replaced brakes and rotors in June 2010. Within a month brake rubbing and vibration was noticed. Returned to service mechanic who said he nas never seen anything like this before. He then replaced the rotors and pads and returned them to teh maufacurer under warranty. Now, in October 2010 once again the rubbing and vibration has returned. Completely ridicolus and no it is not my driving style as teh majoriy of the miles are highway miles.

  • Susan October 20, 2010, 3:08 pm

I am having the same problem. I was thrilled when my husband surprised me with my Journey in 2009. The cruise control didn’t work, the mirrors on the shades broke and the sunglasses holder popped down all the time. Now I am having brake problems. I only have 19,ooo miles on this car and only drive around my small town and they say I need new pads and my rotors done. My husband has a Dodge truck with 40,000 miles on it and has never had to replace his pads. It sounds like this model was build with the generic version of everything. They told my husband it is the way I drive the car. Really? Because I have never had a problem with my driving causing good quality cars to break. Can we please start building reliable cars again?

How can I be included in this Class Action Lawsuit. I Purchased my car in March 2009 it had approx 5000 miles on it. I have the R/T at 19,000 miles my front brakes pads and rotors needed replaced . Dodge told me it was the way I drive. I through such a fit they repaired it at goodwill. at approx 25XXX the rotors were warped again of course it was my fault complained again they said they would replace them at goodwill but this would be the last time. 1 week later my brakes where squealing again they said nothing wrong at 36XXX miles went in for a oil change for the technician to tell me that I needed front and rear brakes. I asked do you have to change the brakes with every oil change. My passengers door lock quit working, Sometimes my car wont start, The visor mirror cover flew off, my tire pressure light is contantly coming on. My tires when I replaced the brakes the tires wont even stand up because why “who knows” Dogge sh\ould be ASHAMED to sell such a crappy vehicle. My fob has also quit working couldnt get in my vehicle.

  • Bobbie Palmer November 2, 2010, 10:59 pm

I own a 2009 Dodge Journey and have always liked the vehicle. My brakes started grinding and my brakes started squeeling so I took it in to have them looked at and of course was told that the brake pads and rotors had to be replaced. My mileage was 18,900. Of course, the reason was “my driving”. Well, I will be making a trip back to the Dodge dealer tomorrow to talk to the service manager! I am not going to accept paying out this much money for something that should have lasted much longer. I have never had to replace brakes in any car that I have ever owned in the past. Hmmm………………

  • Shawn Kelly November 4, 2010, 1:16 pm

I have a 2009 Journey. I’m on the 3rd set of pads and rotors. The dealership told me I was SOL when I called the first time so I decided to go non Chrysler. Again 12,000 miles later I needed new brakes and Rotors. I Called Chrysler @ 800-992-1997. They again did nothing. Its sad that when you buy to support American you get nothing in return. The tool Chad I spoke wtih didn’t even say he was sorry. Nice. I was told that the replacement parts done at the dealership are good for 12k or 12 months. I will be heading back to the dealership every 10,000 miles and demanding a replacement!

You MUST call Chrysler and complain!

  • Dominica Melendez November 6, 2010, 1:17 pm

Same old story. Breaks and rotor repairs every five to six months. I do a lot of driving but never had to replace my breaks this often. I had a Mitsubishi Endeavor for almost 5 years and traded it in for this car. Biggest mistake ever. The dealer says it’s my driving but none of my other cars had issues. I’m so tired of paying so much for every little thing on this car and stressing on how I’m going to come up with the money everytime something needs to be fixed. I want to know how I can be included in this lawsuit. Enough is enough.

  • heather busby November 8, 2010, 11:47 am

I am complaining as well my 2009 dodge journey has 10500 miles on it and needed all new brakes front and back. I will never ever buy a dodge again. And three new batteries and have to jump my car all winter.

  • Janie Mahone November 8, 2010, 2:35 pm

My 2009 Journey has had front brakes replaced at 12,000 miles and rear brakes & rotars replaced at 25,000 miles and now again at 42,000 miles. Not to mention, there is vibration in the stearing column when I hit the brakes because of the worn rotars that I now refuse to replace AGAIN. I’m hoping they issue a recall soon!

  • Brian Flicker November 8, 2010, 3:52 pm

3 sets of rotors front and back on my 2009 Journey since I bought it and I’m only at 30,000 miles. I agree my wife does alot of stop and go driving but that’s nuts. Same year Dodge Ram I’m at 50,000 before I have to replace.

  • susan November 12, 2010, 9:44 am

I too own a 2010 Dodge Journey. I have 14,300 miles on it on it and this is the second set of rotors I have had put on. I was told this was due to my driving habits….which my response to them was my driving habits have been the same for the last 4 cars I purchased from Chrysler and this was on ONLY car I had to replace the rotors on…let alone 2 times withing the first 14k miles. I came across this class action suite…is this something we can take part in?

  • Cari November 15, 2010, 3:57 pm

I too have had major problems with brakes and rotors but even worse my 2009 Dodge piece of crap Journey shuts off when I’m driving it!!! The first time I was coming out of a parking lot and lost all my power steering brakes and all. They came and flat beded it. Then said “sorry we couldnt get it to repeat the problem! But dont woory it wont turn off over 20 mile a hour.” WHAT? Well happened again going 40 mph. Had it looked at again and I was pretty much told it was my word and they cant prove it. Well just happened a 3rd time this weekend and I almost was rear ended with my two children in the car. I’m done. If they don’t buy back this damn car I will get a lawer and go to media. Whatever I have to do cause someone is gonna get seriously hurt!

  • maryann November 15, 2010, 8:30 pm

  • sandra November 18, 2010, 1:29 pm

I would like to know where to get info on the class action lawsuit for the Dodge Journey (2009). I am also having problems with my brakes and would like to see this through. This is a serious safety hazard and I would like to help get this looked at before someone gets hurt or killed.

  • Ronald Livaudais November 20, 2010, 9:41 am

I have a 2009 Dodge Journey and at 15000 miles the brakes need to be replaced. What do I need to do to join this lawsuit.

    • Ronald Livaudais November 22, 2010, 10:30 am

Just got back from the dealer. Needs new pads and rotors on a car with less than 16000 miles. Where can I join this class action suit. The bill is over $600.00 on a car I am not even half way paying for.

  • Michelle Matthews December 4, 2010, 9:32 pm

I am in Georgia, and just at 24000 miles I was told that I need new pads and rotors. There is heat that is nearly unbearable for the driver and front passenger feet and legs at times coming from somewhere (even when there is no heat on). I prefer my car to be repaired by the dealership, but they want to charge me $580.00. My so call lifetime warranty seems to be useless. How can I join this class action suit.

  • John Roberts December 5, 2010, 2:53 am

2009 Dodge Journey: pre-mature brake and rotor wear causing steering shake at 8800 miles and again 10 months later at 15000 miles. Unsafe and needing repairs. Excessive costs. Filed complaint with NHTSA Government Agency at http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov Can’t wait, have to fix now. May try frozen rotors and high performance brake pads; http://www.frozenrotors.com Dodge should not only pay for this repair, they should recall the vehicle with no cost retrofit that provides permanent solid braking and low wear solution.

  • Laura Migliore December 8, 2010, 9:55 pm

How can I be included in this Class Action Lawsuit? I Purchased my car in Feb 2009 was brand new. I have the 6 Cylinder AWD and at about 16,000 miles my front brakes needed replaced . Dodge told me it was the way I drive. Again today at 33000, I was backing up and it sounding like my back wheel was going to fall off. I had a big trip planned and ended up having to rent a car. I have a new car and have to rent a car???? So I stopped at mechanic and made an appointment for tomorrow, not going back to Dodge dealer, so they can tell me it is my fault for the hard California driving. So we will see how much I have to spend out of pocket tomorrow to resolve a faulty brake system. I was a Dodge customer, but not after these problems. You buy a new car to have a worry free five years, plus I was suckered into the extended warranty, but does not cover there bad brakes. Please contact me I will join any lawsuit against Dodge.

  • Brad Lowery December 11, 2010, 11:06 am

I have the same problem at 24,000 miles my brakes are shot, having to spend $850.00 for replacements, I was given a number to call by the Dealership to see if there was a recall and of course there wasnt. Somehting has to be done!!

  • Mark Mitchel December 19, 2010, 9:26 am

I have the same problems with my 2009 Dodge Journey. I have approximately 24000 miles on this car and it is driven easy. I have never had to replace brakes with less than 50000 miles on a car or truck in my life. I will never buy a Dodge (car or truck) ever. I have car payments so I can have the comfort of knowing that I have a reliable vehicle, but brake issues are serious and shouldn’t happen this soon and this often. This is rediculous. And Dodge not standing behind their product is just not right. Don’t advertise your cars to be dependable if they aren’t, and don’t brag about your service if you have no intention on taking care of the customer and serious issues such as the brake system. We all paid hard earned money for our vehicles and it is us, your customers, that keep you in business. Next time you need a “Bailout” we may have more say so in the matter!

  • mary mac December 26, 2010, 11:23 am

YES !!!!! I have been waiting for years for some kind of action regarding my 2009 dodge journey,. I have 45,000 miles on the car and am on my 5th set of brakes. I have had to drop over $900.00 dollars in the past 2 years on replacing the brakes and every time I bring the car in to JACK ELLIS DODGE in Glendale I ‘m told that the problem is my driving NOT the Dodge product. I have never been so happy to see so many others having the same complaint. Finally I am justified in what I knew all along .DODGE MAKES A S@&* Product and never ever will I buy, lease or rent a dodge or chrysler car or truck.

  • Alfred J January 3, 2011, 6:36 pm

I am In Canada. I took my Dodge RT in to rebalance the passenger side front wheel because the balance fellout and no I did not hit a curb.

The technician replaced and balanced the wheel and when I got back in the car to drive away, up comes my change oil now message. On top of that guess what, the sign for the air bag is now illuminated. this happened in under 1/2 hour!

Anyone in Canada with journey issues?

    • Janet October 4, 2011, 6:49 pm

2 sets brakes, wheel bearings, tire sensors and power locks, power window issues on 2009 dodge journey sxt

  • Mary D January 5, 2011, 1:57 pm

I also have a 2009 Dodge Journey and was shocked when at about 18,000 miles I needed new brakes. Since I mostly drive the highway it seemed odd. I had the brakes repaired at a small shop in town and was told to contact dodge about my concerns, dodge stated they needed the receipt and would consider reimbursing me. they keep giving me the run around
no reimbursement and they stick to their wear and tear story, it can’t possibly be the braking system. The brakes are not covered by warranty and we will all be paying to replace them, until Dodge fixes the issue. Unfortunately In CT we donot have a class action suit against Dodge, but Im making complaints. If we all go to the safecar.gov site maybe Dodge will take the issue seriously.

  • Justin S January 7, 2011, 10:08 am

Our Journey has 30K miles on it and we have had to do the front brakes pads twice, the front rotors once and the rear brake pads and rotors once. The dealer even told us @ 12k miles that “Yeah, those Journeys seems to need brake work @ then.”
I was a big Dodge fan before this, but it will be the last one I ever buy. I was eyeing a Challenger in the next 6 months, but now now way.

  • Scott B January 7, 2011, 10:36 am

My wife also has a 2009 Dodge Journey. I have a 2003 Dodge Ram 2500 Cummings Turbo. I have 175,000 miles and I replaced the factory brakes at about 80K. My wife’s Dodge Journey only had 12K miles on it when the breaks needed replaced. She just hit 32K miles this week, and the front end is shaking during the braking process. I took it in, and the brake pads are worn down again and it started making lines in the rotors. My entire family has only purchased Dodge products, and mark my words, this will be the last. I’ve got my eye on a nice Superduty Ford. Any company that doesn’t stand behind their product or accept this liability isn’t a company I’ll purchase from again. As a result, I have a fleet of 67 trucks that will be switching to Ford in three months.
Also, we had to buy tires again. If you have not noticed, these tires are awfully soft and unusually sized. I was told by Dodge they are on national back order. Thus, there is a long waiting list for a tire. I had to get a rental a car for a week, while my wife waited on her tire to be shipped. You are right, $1,200 for a set of four, and this is her second set with only 30,000 miles. How about someone holds Dodge accountable for their mistake so they can save any integrity that may remain.
    Thanks
    Scott B.

  • james Montgomery January 8, 2011, 12:46 pm

I was wondering why the brakes went out on my Wife’s Journey (2009) We didn’t find out about it until she took in for an inspection at the Dealership. I called them and asked them how is it that a brand new car can wear out the brakes in less than 23,000 miles? They told me and her that it was due to the city driving. We live in the DC area. At first I thought okay maybe so. But then I got to thinking I have a Dodge truck that is a year older than my wifes Journey and it still has over 50% of it’s brakes left. So then I was like WTF? Then I got to digging around on the internet and have found all these complaints about the braking system on this car. To be honest with you we like this car. But now I am having some second thoughts as to the safety of this vehicle. My wife and kid ride in this car. Now I am worried about it. Dodge needs to take the steps needed to remedy this situation instead of just trying to skirt around the real issue. I mean really this many people cannot be telling the same lie. I live in VA. I would like to know how to get in with this class action lawsuit. I don’t care about the money I just want my damn car fixed the way it should be.

  • Sean Mahabadi January 24, 2011, 2:11 pm

I too have a Dodge Journey with 22,000 miles. Just dropped it off for an oil change & tire rotation today at a local oil change place. They called me back and told me that my front pads were completely worn, down to the rivets & the rotors have been damaged and will need replacing. Paid around $500 for a new set. This is way too early to replaced pads & rotors. I never even heard the sensor on the pads. Are they even in there?

  • Bonnie Emory January 28, 2011, 2:41 pm

I have a 2009 Dodge Journey and had to replace the front rotors and fron and back pads at 38,000 miles and now in less tha 10,000 miles we are relacing the front pads again. HELP how can I be a part of this class action lawsuit?

  • john swiatkowski February 9, 2011, 8:21 am

This is a common issue not only on the Journey but many front wheel drive Chrysler Products. 13,000 mile had to replace front rotors and pads on my 2005 Town and Country, 11,000 for my bother in law. Motor Trend or Car and Driver had similar results on their long term results with a 600.00 price tab

  • Cassandra Merritt February 23, 2011, 10:47 pm

I knew I was not crazy. I bought my 2009 Dodge Journey in August in 2008. I have NEVER had to replace brakes let alone rotors on any vehicle I have ever owned at 28,000 miles. Then to top it off, I took to repair shop because I was hearing scrubbing noises and squeaking sounds. Now the back brakes were bad at 31,000 and had to get the front brakes replaced again because started squeaking 3000 miles after being replaced. The mechanic at the car repair shop said it was premature for the brakes to wear out this fast. Needless to say Chrysler customer care received a very angry letter from me. The representative started making all these excuses for the defective brakes installed on this vehicle that I had to hang up in her face. She did agree before I disconnected to reimburse me only for the front brakes and rotors minus the deductible which is better than nothing I suppose but what will they do when judging by all the complaints they will wear out pretty soon, when I have to replace again? I have never had a problem out of a vehicle before which is the reason I buy new so I dont have these problems. At least not this soon. Someone at that companies knows about but swept it under the rug hoping it will not be discovered. You know it is a problem when you take your vehicle to the dealer and being advised that they had 11,000 on backorder. They need to pay for this. How can I be a part of the lawsuit. Please someone tell me how

  • AnneD February 24, 2011, 12:45 pm

I’d like to know how to be part of the lawsuit. I just had my brakes and rotors replaced on my 2009 Journey after only 16,000 miles. I was told it was covered under the new “warranty brake extention # x30” but I would have to pay a deductable. I never heard of paying a deductable before. Brakes after 16,000 miles is a joke. There should be a recall on them if this is the case and Chrysler should replace them without a “deductable”.
If anyone can tell me how to be part of the lawsuit – I’m in. I only foresee more problems down the road

  • Tammy Barnes March 1, 2011, 2:56 pm

I have the same problems with my 2009 Dodge journey..how do I get in on this law suit. I want to take the truck back and get something else. Its nothing but a money pit

    • alton February 3, 2012, 2:56 pm

How do I get in on the lawsuit

  • Rebecca Mercado March 4, 2011, 10:10 am

I purchased a 2009 Journey and also had to replace the Brake pads, I also have had problem with the mirror covers on the shades braking and the tire air light is always on and is always says that my oil needs to be changed when is was just changed. I was having problem with my car not starting when I would turn it on it would just click, I would have to try it 2 or 3 times before it would turn on and of course when I took it in they could not find a problem. With so may people having problem you would think that they would do a recall on the brakes , but it always about the money. I am very upset that I have to drive a vehicle that I am so longer feel comfortable in because I am afraid that something is going to happen with all the problem I have found. It is sad that now in days you can not trust a company this large to be honest in selling a good product. I work very hard for my money and do not want to be spending it all on repairs on a new vehicle; this is why I bought a new vehicle in the first place, so I would not have to worry about repairs and now I am having to worry about what will happen next on this vehicle. What do I need to do to get involved in a lawsuit; only thing I live in San Antonio, Texas, so not sure if I can get involved with this lawsuit; Someone help; please.

I thought that this problem was unique to me. I have been dealing with the same thing as well, I have poured money into this truck’s braking system, beginning less than a year after purchasing the truck & like most of the comments made, I was made to believe that it was the way I was driving, which didn’t make much sense as my GMC pickup has never had any brake issues like this and it’s 11 years old. Between the dealership & Just Brakes, I have paid so much money on something that seems to be a defect in the automobile, I too, would like to know how I can get involved in this lawsuit.

I have 2- 2009 Dodge Journey. Brakes went out on one of them at 23800 miles. Cost $240 at dealer to replace front brakes and turn rotors. I called Chrysler customer service to file complaint and they paid me half the cost, $120. That was in Feb 2011. Today I get a letter from Chrysler/Dodge indicating that due to this brake problem, all owners of 2009-2010 Journeys will have to only pay $0 with less than 12,000 miles (warranty), $50– 12,000-24,000 miles and $100– 24,000 – 36,000 miles. So now they are sending me the other $70. Thus, for the $240 brake job, I will only pay $50. This letter indicates that anyone who had the brake service done previously, will be reimbursed for the cost depending on the above mentioned mileage limits. Call Chrysler Customer Assistance Center 800-423-6343. Your Welcome.

Sharky, thanks for the info. I was waiting for a callback from my dealer about an “Extended Warranty” they said I had that would cover my brakes when I found this site. Two weeks ago they told me that my brakes were at 10% and needed to be replaced for $330. I took it to where I normally have my work done and they said I needed to have the rotors replaced too!! The dealer called me back and said that I do have this “Extended Warranty” and they quoted me the $100 price for replacing the front brakes & rotors. I’m going to be calling the number you provided and if anyone else has information on the class action, please post it! Thanks!

I purcharsed my 2009 Journey R/T in Nove. 2008. Within 30,000 highway miles, we had had no brake pads left on the back breaks and only a little more on the front brakes with the rotors not even being turnable. We decided that we would pay $450 dollars to purchase ceramic brakes and quality name brand rotors only to have the very same issue with the chassey shaking and the steering column rocking back and forth 11,000 miles later. I believe that there is also a huge problem with the calibers not releasing or fully releasing once you take your foot off the brakes. My car still looks brandnew and i do not abuse my vehicle and my driving style is not aggressive to say the least, and yet I am getting ready to put on a new set of brakes, rotors and possibley replacing the calibers with only 44, 500 miles on this vehicle. I have filed may complaints wth the NTSHA. When I read all of the blogs and the reviews from people who have a Journey, it is so obvious that we have been ripped off. It is also a huge ripoff, in that we are locked in to one tire manufacturer, Kumho, to replace our 19″ rims at $267.00 per tire. This was not disclosed to the consumer at all and they are now on backorder. What do I do if I get a flat? Please feel free to contact me via my email address: sab6351@aol.com. Thank you.

  • Aimee March 14, 2011, 9:42 pm

Can we get ALLL of the US in on this? I had 12,020 miles and and needed NEW rotors… now at 16,000 and need to be replaced AGAIN!

  • Becky March 19, 2011, 2:43 pm

I too have a 2009 Journey bought in May 09 new and at 28,000 miles the brakes started to squeal. Had them replaced and am still having squealing. Have never had to replace brake pads before 40,000 before. I am in SC and would love to find a way to get all states involved in this lawsuit.

  • Brenda March 21, 2011, 8:50 am

My 2009 Journey is having some major brake issues, agian, now. Loud grinding, also grinding when turning on curves, I think the traction control has something to do with that.

  • Ernie Trcka March 21, 2011, 12:54 pm

My wife has a 2009 Jouney and it has been in the shop many times to have the brakes and rotors replaced. It has about 53K miles on the car and guess what, still fighting the same problem every 20K miles. New brakes and rotors. But now, the rear has to be done as well. Dodge is doing nothing but putting a band-aid on the problem by replacing parts with like parts. I live in Texas and want to know if we can put our name into the class action lawsuit or would we need to get representation from legal counsel here in Texas.

  • Patrick Dufresne March 22, 2011, 10:16 am

I’m having the same problem of brake vibration since february 2010 when braking with my 2010 Dodge Journey bought in december 2009 in Canada. The dealer told me it’s because I’m braking to hard.

But I just received a letter from Chrysler Canada telling me that I can go to my dealer to get a new front brake set because of a problem detected with the equipment. I’ll go this week to make the repair free.

  • Jeffery March 24, 2011, 10:45 pm

I can see I am not the only one with all these problems. I am at 40,000 now and have just got done Replacing Tires, Tie Rods, and Re-alignments for a cool $900 and still need to replace Bearings, Oil Change, And sounds like Breaks again. I originally brought in the truck after purchase 4 times for Break related problems all before 12000 miles. All breaking parts have been replaced and still get the vibrations that they do not know what is wrong with it. Sucks to think of the five of us and safety as well as if insurance gets a hold of this classing the Cross-Over as risky. If there is a way for this suit to cover all fifty states.

    • Albert July 14, 2011, 9:59 pm

same thing for me. Received the letter from Chrysler extending the warranty on my front brakes. At 13,000 km I had to replace the front rotors and brake pads under warranty. Disturbing. Did not like the steering wheel shaking like the car was not in control at speeds less than 80 km on straight roads and 40-50km on curved roads.

      • Heidi August 4, 2011, 9:19 am

        Hi Albert,
I got the letter too, but I can’t find it; is it possible for you to email a copy of yours so that I don’t need to argue with the dealer?
        Heidi

I have a 2010 Dodge Journey with 13,000 miles on it. Today for the 3rd time the brakes have beem fixed. 1st time they shaved the rotors, 2nd time completely did the brakes over and today #3 new rotors. I love the car and it drives like a dream. What to do? We have a lemon law in NY that I am going to look into.

    • jeannine April 27, 2011, 12:25 pm

I’m in NY and have a 2009 Journey…..I have looked into the NY lemon law and it didnt apply to me, hopefully you’ll have better luck. I see the lawsuit is only in NJ and Cali, but will it apply to us in Ny as well???

  • Marco Schitz April 4, 2011, 5:37 pm

    Hi,
I am Brazilian and bough a 2009 Dodge Journey SXT V6 2.7l. It is another model, different from US cars, manufactured in Mexico. But that is only difference. Breaks are the same. Now my car is about 12000 miles (only!) and I received three (exactly: 3x) rotors and break pads changes. When problems started and I received these changes covered by warranty (they don’t even tried to bill me) I found strange, really strange. Now apr-11, Dodge launches a recall about breaks and… will change my entire set of brakes… fourth time.
Well, it seems to be very serious and I am concerned about my family safety as I have a 2yo boy travelling with me.
How is it going in Us? I am considering suit Dodge or give up and change my car…
    Could you help me?
    Best Wishes
    Marco Schitz, from Brazil.

  • Renee R. Pittsburgh April 5, 2011, 12:32 pm

I have a 2010 Journey w/3K miles on it & am already experiencing issues with the brakes/rotors. I have it at a dealership today & when I mentioned the wear & tear they acted like I was crazy. Of course I searched the interent to stumble upon a class action lawsuit involving the same thing – brakes & rotors. So, I guess i’m not as crazy as they think.
    Can you say recall?

    • Vaughn June 26, 2011, 6:43 pm

Same problem 30,100 total replacement of front brakes. I have a 2005 Jeep had first brake job at 140k. There is a problem.

  • Susanne Reesor April 7, 2011, 11:25 am

ANYONE IN CANADA have any ideas on how we can get this resolved. Sure they extended the warranty on the Brakes but the SAFETY ISSUE? They brag about being the safest crossover etc. and mine had brakes done two days after I drove it off the lot, 400 km, 4,000 km and now again vibrating at 14,000 km and I am not about to sit and thank them for paying for the repairs or extending my warranty, I want to get another vehicle. This is ridiculous. Being a single mother to two boys SAFETY etc was my number one issue and now I feel unsafe everytime I feel another vibration and am extremely unhappy. What can we do or anyone in Canada same issue? I have 2010 Dodge Journey SXT. I do not want a bandaid to the problem because I know it will be ongoing well after the warranty is extended. I paid a hell of a lot for my vehicle and was so excited and this definitely has taken the wind out of my sails.

Susanne – please contact me at suz.25@hotmail.com if you would like to discuss or come up with a plan together if you have the same issue.

  • Demetria R April 7, 2011, 11:52 am

I bought my 2009 Dodge Journey SXT from CA and I lived in AZ May 2009. I drove it to NC June 2009 and from the start I had trouble with brakes squeling airbag light and some other repair issues. It was still under warranty. December 2009 I had new rear pads put on from the squeling. I drove back to AZ February 2010 and brakes were grinding so I had them inspected and was told I needed new pads and rotors both front and back and tires. I bought 4 new tires and had the rotors turned. January 2011 the brakes were grinding again so in March I had the front rotors and ceramic pads put on. 2 days later the grinding more like a growl was horrible. I took car to Midas to have free brake “evaluation” they charged me $40 (go figure), and said my front brakes were overheating because I had the wrond pads. He said my truck took semi metallic and I had ceramic so it would be $180 in labor for a $140 pad replacement and machine rotors. The new pads and rotors are not even a month old. So yes please give more information on this law suit.

  • Sue Reesor April 13, 2011, 6:49 pm

Is anyone in Canada willing to get together to see if there is anything we can do? So yes they extended the warranty to 40,000 km but what happens after that a continuous never ending money pit towards brakes? I have a 2010 Dodge Journey SXT two days TWO
DAYS PEOPLE it had 400 km on it had to get the whole braking system replaced. Then AGAIN at 5,000 km and now here we go again starts shaking and I have 14,000 km on it? That is ridiculous if you read the lawsuit it shows that the Journey does not have adequate braking system for the size and weight of the vehicle in comparison to others of its class and size. And everyone is satisfied at them extending the warranty? I know for a fact I am not. I am a single mother and hunted forever to find a great new vehicle I could afford that was big enough for two huge hockey bags for my boys and number one SAFE for us. Do you feel safe knowing this could cause the brakes to fail and cause premature break wear again and again? I know I don’t and to say it is the # 1 Safety Crossover Vehicle? I don’t quite know what, where to turn but do know that the more people that feel this way and don’t want to accept it, the better chance we have at succeeding in some sort of compensation – not only for the $ but for the inconvenience. It took the wind out of my sails and thinking this was going to be awesome and I would have no problems. If anyone from CANADA would like to discuss this, please email me at suz.25@hotmail.com.

    Thanks

I purchased my 2009 Dodge Journey in May of 2009 with 15, 900 miles. Had rotors shaved and pads replaced in January of 2010 at 23,000. Had pads replaced again around July of 2010 26,000, and as of today my Journey is sitting in the shop once again getting new pads, turned rotors, and new caliper on right front because it locked up and almost caused accident. This is the 3rd set of brakes I have had since May of 2009. I definitely do not drive my car hard or ride the brakes. I am really upset and fed up. Dealer turned their nose up and said they haven’t had many problems with the brakes.

  • Willem April 21, 2011, 5:55 am

The anwser I got from the Dutch distributer is: you have a 1 year or 20.000km warrenty (whatever comes first) on the brakes. That’s all!
The steering wheel vibrates when I brake. The brakes are shocking. The brake pedal makes a hissing sound. During braking, the engine speed fluctuates.
My Journey 2.4 SXT Automatic was build in august 2008 (MY 2009). It was sold new in october 2009. It has only 28.500km on it.
So in Europe we also have the same problems. No wonder Chrysler and Dodge left our continent.

  • Nuha Shami April 26, 2011, 11:33 am

    Hi All,

I bought my Dodge Journy on June 2009 and I have only 15K on it.
The car went to service over 15 times due to water Pump issues, belts, strange noises when I trun the wheel to the max left and right…. this one never get resolved.

Also over 10 times rotors and pad + breaks have been changed … also, you have to note I am not using the car for long distance drive ….

    thanks

I have a 2009 Dodge Journey. I live in upstate NY. I have had my Journey now for a year and a half. I’ve had to change my brakes every 3 months. I have replaced my rotors two times already. Just today I replaced my front wheel barring, after finding out the barrings were on a nationwide backorder till June. My local garage tracked one of the last one down. I have had to replace my tires twice already. Six months ago I had 4 new tires put on 225/55/R19. Now I find out they have been discontiued and the remaining ones that are left are backordered. Who’s bright idea was it to make one brand and size for this car. So they tell me “Oh sorry, you’ll have to buy a smaller rim and pay another $1000 dollars for tires.” I have spent over $4000 dollars in repairs for brakes, tires, rotors, etc. This is the worst car I’ve ever owned and believe it should be the responsiblity of the company to pay us back for all the replacement cost that we’ve had to endure. Or give us our money back for this car.

    Thanks,
    Carrie

I have a 09 Dodge Journey for almost two years. Until now I had to replace the front and back brakes. The technician told me that the part holds the pad was malfunctioning and offered to replace it, and its only been 24,000!!! The front brakes when out first and recently I had the back. And just found out about this suit!!! It’s time to contact Dodge for answers!!

How do I get in on this class action?

  • Stephanie May 2, 2011, 6:57 pm

Well I’m sure glad I’m not alone. I have a 2009 Dodge Journey and I’m getting ready to put on my 5th set of brakes. 3 on the front and 2 on the back, which includes rotors and calipers. My first set of brakes was at 25,000 miles again no help from Dodge. I have had numerous problems and cannot get my dodge dealer to help at all. My car is red and paint is coming off, I reported this at 22,000 miles and was told the warranty didn’t cover it. I have had to put a new battery in mine, an ECR valve, check engine light has come on, now my key is bad and won’t work, they want 200.00 just for the key. How can I join the class action law suit.

  • Steve MOTORKIT May 6, 2011, 6:47 am

I have a 2009 SXT just got to 20300 miles and the front pads and Rotors (Discs UK) plus rear pads are just about done. So I think I have done better than most.
To change theses are quite easy so I am trying to locate a low priced supplier for the parts. If you can help let me know. If anyone would like these parts I am willing to buy in numbers and may be we can get a good deal going with a supplier.
Please let me know if I can help
    Regards Steve in the UK

    Hi all,
I had purchase the 2009 Dodge Journey USED in July 2010 as my first financed vehicle. I went to the Dodge dealership to get it serviced because Inoticed when breaking at a high speed on highways the truck would vibrate/pulsate. I thought my brakes needed replacement and found it odd for soo soon. The tech told me that I need front and rear brake replacement, front rotors replacement, and the back rotors needed resurfacing for a total cost of $800. I was LIVID!! I asked what happened to my warranty? and was told that it didnot apply to me, only to first owner of the vehicle. I told them to give me my truck back becuase I refused to pay such a price. I took it to my local mechanic to fix the front rotors and brakes but still have the vibrating feel when braking. This is TERRIBLE! I really hate the fact that I’m paying maintenance fee at still an early stage of having this truck. How can I be a part of this class action suit????

  • Diana Boudreau May 8, 2011, 7:57 pm

I need to figure out how to get in on this suit. Just had my brake rotors changed for the third time in nine months yesterday, and the brake pads also replaced for the second time.

  • Beverly May 16, 2011, 10:12 pm

My husband and I have driven Dodge and Chrysler products for 41 years. Never have I had a lemon as bad as my 2009 Journey. The brakes started acting bad around 18000 miles. Now, at just 23000 miles they had to put in a Rotor kit and pads on the front brakes and resurface the drums and pads on the back brakes. They also had to replace the right inner tierod and fix a loose pan having to do with my power steering. Of course, they did the front brakes for only $100 since they did an extended warrenty, but why the $100 deductible, and we had to pay for the rear brakes! This made me boiling mad. Never will I buy another Journey! Lemons!!! Last thoughts–we have also had trouble with radio going off and not coming back on till we stopy and restart the car, problems with the security system going off whenever and the coating we had put on the car when purchased. It has not lived up to the promises made.

  • Ken Riley May 18, 2011, 8:52 am

Ontario Canada . 2010 Dodge Journey with Brake vibrations
which started at 2000,00 km on our trip to Arizona with a load of suitcases etc.
Excess vibrations during braking and quite bad on mountain roads. We were afraid it would cause an accident.
Dealer said they felt a little vibration when I returned to my home sevice . The car was not loaded and on level ground so all they would do was ( lets keep a look-out for now ) What about next time ? This is a all wheel drive top of the line Journey .

  • TONY May 19, 2011, 8:51 am

I bought my Dodge journey SXT CRD AUTO in May 2009 7000 miles on the clock, went in for service @ 20000. The result being new brake pads on front and 1 new tyre. Three months later another new tyre. In Feb this year car was juddering on take off so took it to the dealer they ran the computer on the car and told me to pick the car up as it was now running perfectly.Needless to say there was no difference in the running of the car. Was told to bring the car back to workshop on the 16 Feb.on the way the gearbox intermittently lost its drive so the car limped into the workshop. Was told it needed a new gearbox and it would be a week {Chrysler supplied a hire car} it is now 21st May & lots of phone calls to garage,{none from them to me}lots of phone calls from Chrysler customer service, have had three delivery dates from them for this gearbox to arrive but still hasn’t infact Chrysler customer service told me he was going to stop ringing me with updates as it was clearly upsetting me…….Who wouldn’t be upset ive owned this car for 2 years now but its only been in my drive for 21 months and in the workshop for 3 months. The Garage who sold me this car is based on Mereyside United Kingdom & said under no circumstances would they consider a buy back. Will keep posting on here and other forums as and when things begin to happen.

    • Tony June 1, 2011, 10:06 am

Day 105 yesterday 31st May, Garage rang me told me car was fixed { they fitted new clutch in auto box }. Told me it had been test-driven & all was as should be, and they were washing the car ready for me to pickup on day 106…. Day 106 1st of June arrives, the excitement & anticipation of driving my car after 106 days in the workshop was very noticeable. Picked the car up drove it 400 yds and guess what ????????????. Yes you?ve all guest it by now it broke down with no drive in the gearbox, & I was left nursing the car out of the way of the traffic behind me.Stopped the car waited 5 mins & started car again, gearbox engaged so Took the car back & they really do not know what to say except that they will have to get in touch once again with the Mighty Chrysler. Will keep you posted .This car should be killed off

  • Rachel May 27, 2011, 10:59 am

I have owned my 09 Dodge Journey since Jan. 09 and 2 weeks later my ac was not working. They fixed and said it was a broken peice. I had to fight for it to be warrantied. At 12000 miles brakes went out. Had roters shaved and new pads put on. I now have 28000 miles and I am scheduled to change my brake pads(6th time) and roters(2nd time) this weekend. I am getting the run around from Chrystler and they told me that they have extended the waranty but in 8000 miles that will be up and then I am screwed like everyone else. Something major needs to happen so they will fix all of our vehicles. I wish I would have never bought it.

I purchased my 2009 dodge journey rt in Pa. replaced front brakes and rotors at 18k- tires soon to follow – nice to know the factory installed Kuhmos are only tires that can be used on a dodge journey- and also the tires that come with a new vehicle are NOT guaranteed for the 36k that the factory purchased Kuhmos are. Replaced rear brakes and rotors at 36k and now I am experiencing steer wheel shake when applying brakes – front rotors possibly warped? I will never purchase another dodge again after owning five of them… stratus, ram, dakota, durango (2)… without the problems I have experienced with this vehicle.

We need a class action lawsuit like this for the Chrysler 2008 Town and Country as well, check the posts…..any good class action lawyers out there!!

  • April June 16, 2011, 11:49 am

I have a 2009 Journey I purchases brand new. It currently has 15,000 miles on it and I am on my 3rd set or rotors! Apparently they were warped. The whold care would start to shake everytime the brakes ere pressed. This last time I had to pay a $50.00 deductable which I was not happy about. I am in CA and found this lawsuit. I presented a copy of it to the dealer afte they suggested maybe it was the way I drove the car. They say they were not aware of the lawsuit and it was out of thier hands. They had to do what Chrysler says. I am in the process of filing a complaint with Chrysler so I can get my deductible back. Not happy at all. I feel like my car is not safe!

  • Susan June 24, 2011, 9:59 am

I purchased a new 2010 Dodge Journey this past January (2011). The Journey is currently in the shop for a few issues; one of which is the shaking that occurs when braking. The Journey has approximately 6500 miles on it. I have not heard from the shop (took it to the dealer where I purchased) yet but I am worried that one of the problems will be the brakes as described in this suit. How can I find out if I am eligible to be part of the class action suit?

    Thanks.

  • Bonnie June 27, 2011, 8:13 pm

I am furious with this company. I was told at 13,100 that I needed new front break pads and rotors. My husband did it so we didn’t have to pay so much. I took it back to the dearlership last week for an oil change and tire rotation only to hear that I need new front and back break pads, rotors and 4 new tires within the next 3,000 to 5,000 miles! 4 days ago my husband was driving the Journey only to have the air nozzle/tire sensor BLOW OUT!!!!! Ruined the tire. Back to the dealership I go. I tell them what happened, they say don’t worry the sensor is covered. Is the tire ok? No, your gonna need 2 new ones right away. Well, the nozzle blowing out ruined the tire before the tread was worn out! Sorry mam, tires aren’t warrantied. So I have a 2009 Journey with less than 23,000 miles that will be going on it’s second set for front breaks and rotors…the back set that will be replaced in the next 2 weeks and 4 new tires. ALL ON LESS THAN 23,000 MILES. I AM FURIOUS THAT I EVER GOT THIS VEHICLE!!!!

  • Shadow Designer July 5, 2011, 1:50 pm

Hello all, I agree with the statement that the brakes on our 2010 Dodge Journey R/T are not designed to handle class and weight of the vehicle. I would almost say that if you have a trailer attached to back of this vehicle, you would risking your life! Our Journey has 26,000 miles on it and we have experienced problems since less than 10,000 miles and 4 months into ownership.
I have had a scary experiences driving in mountain conditions through the Canadian Rockies between Calgary, Alberta to Vancouver, BC and to Spokane, Washington. Also, most recently in the mountains through Helena, Montana and a drive back into Salt Lake City, Utah.
The drive from Park City into Salt Lake City on I-215 is a steep incline at 70 MPH with winding curves. The vehicle wants to accelerate on it’s own so using brakes is a must just to keep it at the limit. In that drive, like the others, the brake system seems to heat up excessively to the point where when you use the brakes it sounds like a 747 is directly over your head and the vibrations are very harsh. If you are not familiar with manual downshifting…i think you could be in a lot of rouble.
At this point after dealing with the service department at Dodge, I simply want to go to an aftermarket dealer for performance parts and replace the rotors and pads myself before I drive over a cliff!!

I am absolutely furious at chryslers response to my compliant about the 2010 Dodge Journey rotor problems. Can someone tell me how to join the lawsuits? I bought two new chrysler products this year and they want to charge me for new rotors within 24,000 miles. I’ve owned many vehicles and have never replaced rotors like this. I WILL NEVER BUY A PRODUCT FROM THIS COMPANY AGAIN – LOOK FOR MY VEHICLE WITH LEMON IN THE WINDOWS PARKED IN FRONT OF A DEALERSHIP!!!!!

I too have a 2009 Dodge Journey and have had nothing but problems! Complete brake job at 20,000 miles. Now the car won’t start. It’s a craps shoot on whether it starts or not. Lights work, radio and windows work but the engine won’t turn over. Had the starter replaced and still it starts sometimes and other times I have to wait hrs before it starts. I have 30,000 miles on it and this should not be happening. Repair shop can’t locate a problem! Yeah right. Does anyone else have this problem in Illinois?

    • Jaime September 8, 2011, 12:15 pm

      I’m in Illinois too Eve………
Loved my 2010 Journey until a couple months ago. Bought this car in Dec of 2010, and at about 26,000 miles noticed the shaking when I would brake. Then I started to hear the horrible grinding noises as well. Had both front and back pads and rotors replaced. Two months later, same thing with the shaking and grinding. Brought it back and needed new rotors already! now it’s been a week and half since new rotors were installed and once again I’m feeling the shaking and horrible grinding. This is ridiculous!!!!!! We should not be expected to have to keep paying for all these brakes problems………

I just had my 2009 Dodge Journey, 18,000 miles service and informed that front brake pads etc. need changing. This is clearly not wear-and tear issue and do not expect consumer to pay for it! The car was also recalled for some kind of electrical faults and not exactly sure what was fixed. So it seems there are a number of issues with the car. I am quite disappointed.

Purchased our 2009 Journey in the summer of ’09. I live in the country and drive approximately 25 miles to and from work, with only 4 stop lights between. At 27k miles we had to hve the front brakes and rotors replaced. Suddenly one day without any sort of warning it sounded like my front end had fallen off when I came to a stop. The noise was so bad that I pulled to the side and put my hazards on honestly thought it was an enginge issue because the noise and shake was so horrible. Husband came and drove it to the dealership. Found out that we were metal on metal the front brakes and rotors needed to be replaced rear were just fine. Dealership tried to tell us this is normal and that it was in the milage range to need this work done. Told them they were crazy…this was the 9th dodge vehicle we had owned and NEVER had we had an issue like this. They ended up comping the rotors for us but we needed to pay for brakes. Dodge came along in June of 2011 and reimbursed us for the brake repair. Now 15k miles later I suddenly had the same horrible noise but in the rear of the vehicle. Took it to the dealearship and what do you know the rear brakes and rotors need to be replaced. Called Chrysler this morning, waiting to see what comes of it.

Firstly just have to say I LOVE our Dodge Journey 2010, until……
Had our 24,000km service today and was dismayed to be told new brakes needed etc. $733AUD (Australian dollars). Then I read this class action that happened. Now I am really worried. Our transmission went at 12,000km and was replaced (whole new one). Was told it was ‘one of a few worldwide what bad luck’. Now this. Am very very worried. I am seriously considering selling and going for a different car. Such a shame – it had SO much potential – if only Dodge would fix the issues.

  • Jtlking July 28, 2011, 8:13 am

Get used to it. I’m at 103000 miles on my ’09 and have replaced brakes and rotors 5 times. Do it yourself for under $150.

  • Graham Fisher July 29, 2011, 4:24 pm

I also had to replace my front brake pads at 40,000 Kilometers, Dealer tried to sell me new rotors too but I told them to just turn the old ones, might as well get the full value out of them. Had them replace the pads with a harder material as well, seem to have lost a little brake power but gained twice as much life I think. at 90,000 Kilometers i’m now needing to replace the rear pads, think I can do that myself, save me 400 bucks in labour…

  • Philip Lindley July 30, 2011, 2:15 am

has there been a decision in regards to this class action??? Im in Australia, can i join it if its still going

  • Rob J August 6, 2011, 11:25 am

I have a 2009 dodge journey as well and it’s brake pads and rotors once again for the front. Called the dealership as my so called extended warranty is expired and they asked if they knew about the class action lawsuit and the brake design issues.. They did but said they could not and would not authorize any repairs unless it came down from corporate.. Called corporate office customer care and they gave me the run around and said my warranty was expired regardless if this is a design flaw issue with undersized brakes… This is too bad… My first dodge vehicle ever and now I am reluctant to even consider purchasing another…

  • Rob J August 6, 2011, 8:06 pm

Replaced the pads and rotors myself from parts obtained from tire rack. I will not give dodge another cent for brakes….

  • Brenda August 8, 2011, 1:44 pm

My 2009 Dodge Journey has less than 40,000 miles and we have just had our third set of brakes installed. Still feeling the shaking of the front end upon braking. Dodge should be ashamed to have produced a defective product like this and denying responsibility. I drove my Honda Accord for 17 years before purchasing this Journey. So much for buying American. Kepp putting them out like this, Dodge, and you won’t be in business long!

    • Amy Midkiff August 17, 2011, 10:54 am

I agree, do you know how we can join this class action lawsuit??

  • Margaret August 16, 2011, 3:20 pm

I purchased a 10 Journey last year new. It has 18k on it now, took it in March when it had 11k with steering shakes when braking, they said it was my tires needed balanced. I took it last month in July regarding TSB states to replace frt and rear rotors. All the dealer did was resurface them. So now again my vehicle is in the shop and has been for an entire week. I called Customer Service the day I took it regarding the brake issue 8-9-2011 here it is now 8-16-2011 and I have yet to hear a word from Customer Service and my car is still at the dealer. Houston,TX. If I cant get CS to answer, WHO ElSE?

I have to change brake pads and rotors at 12,000 miles. Went this weekend for service of 21,000 miles and ask to the service advisor if they could check the front brakes since I have to chage them at 12,000 miles. And he told me there was a campaign regarding the brakes. REAL BAD SERVICE, they didn’t call me. and I ask him who was going to reinburse me for what I pay. I’m still waiting for the information to make my claim. Can anyone tell me well I can make my clain for reinbursement.

    • Amy Midkiff August 17, 2011, 10:53 am

Good luck, we filed ours with all of the necessary paperwork and they told us we had too many miles on the vehicle! The brakes/rotors have been a nightmare and Chrysler will not take care of any of it!

  • Amy Midkiff August 17, 2011, 10:51 am

I need to find out ASAP how to put my name on this list….we have a 2009 Journey and are having the same issues with the brakes/rotors. Of course calling Chrysler is a waste of time. If anyone knows how to sign up for this lawsuit please let me know.
    Thanks

I used to work as a Machine-Load-Control-and-Automation-Systems-Technician at Britains largest factory nicknamed “The Rover”. OK the company has long gone but I still drive Rovers! What I do know about motor manufacture is that about 50% of the parts on a car are bought-in from outside suppliers. This includes the brakes. The $64,000 question ought to be “Where are these brakes coming from?” By the way, the motor manufacturing industry is one where there is cut-throat competition with constant pressure to make things cheaper and lighter. (Many years ago a Rover worker won £500 ($800) for suggesting that chrome plated bumpers (fenders) be re-styled in matt black and that was when £500 was a lot of money!) Incidentally some car brakes get used worldwide on many different models so it would be extremely interesting to know what those brakes were originally designed for. As to pad wear, in Cornwall where I live it is very hilly and the roads are twisty. Allegedly three sets of brake pads per year is normal on the taxis around here. My own car which weighs 1.6 tons empty gets through a set of front pads each year, this is on 262mm diameter ventilated discs. The rear discs are underworked and can suffer from rust. Heat turns this rust into black iron oxide which the pads cannot grip, this then leads to poor parking brake performance and troubles at the annual test. Over here the most popular vans are Mercedes Sprinter and Ford Transit. These will cruise all day at 80mph so it might be worth comparing their brakes with the Dodge.

I have a 2010 dodge journey I bought in january 2011 with 15,500 miles and i started getting rattling at 17,000 miles. here in washington, the dealership said it was normal and no unusual wear. i had to get the rotors turned at 24,800 miles apparently and they should have been done. it cost me $100 but how often doesn any other vehicle have to turn the rotors. somebody let me know how to get on that list.

I Bought my 2009 sxt awd off the showroom floor and wish I had read the reviews alittle more carefully. I have 25,600 mile on my car and have had the brake replaced at 19,400 miles and yet agian car is down needing another set of breaks. Also to find out that the car needs four new tires since all four have wore uneven and the medal tread is showing on all four inside tires. This they say is due to the vehicle not being built with the proper alignment and suspension. This hunk of junk has been maintained and tires have been rotated on schedule with the dodge dealership. I am also now having issue with the a/c that seems to never want to turn off even when in off position. The window seal has had to be replaced due to a horrible rattling noise that seem to never want to go away and the kicker boards on both driver and passenger side have had to be replace due to popping out. Not a safe vehicle to have on the roads. I wish I had not bought out right or would go park it on the lot and take the credit ding. Theres not a dealership out there that will give you even a decent trade with the reputation they have and the reviews kill the private market sales. I need to figure out how to get myself into a safer vehicle. I will never agian own a dodge due to the mishaps with this car and they should be ashamed they wont help us more to get out of the mess they put us in.
