Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada, Civil Action Case No. 10-12043), alleging among other things, that Sun Life violated insurance reforms issued by the State of Michigan’s Insurance Commissioner and applicable to disability insurance contracts, seeks to be certified as a class action lawsuit, according to a class action lawsuit news report.

The Sun Life Assurance Company of Canada disability insurance class action lawsuit is reportedly brought on behalf of all persons who were covered under short and long-term disability contracts issued by Sun Life after June 1, 2007, which contained “discretionary proof” clauses, and had their claims denied by Sun Life.

I’ve declined claim, which I can appeal from day they made decision on it . I have thirty days to take action and I even did not received written notice yet. I have been informed by phone , that I am not eligible , because I am employable ( able to go to work) from next day after my mental episode, since is it work related, if I would work in a different building and shift.
Just a little note to their decision. It doesn’t make sense, because WCB declined my claim as not work related “enough”.
    I am getting gradually better.
Please, let me whether there is any supporting documentation to be use in the rappel against their decision.

    Thank you Marcela Podzimek

I have been on medical sick leave since October 25.2010. I had to fight with sunlife for two month to get partial of my sick leave. Since Jan 2011 I have be denied because all my medical proof is not enough. I am tired of being pushed around by insurance companies that fail to provided the service you pay into. I am seeking legal advice regarding this matter.

I have filed appeal and supplied documentation from my medical professionals. After that I have had my claim approved. The problem is that there aren’t medically inclined professionals in Sunlife to deal with specific issues, it seams the knowledge is just general, therefore if you can prove your case with medical report the Sunlife my over turn their decision.
