Quality Egg & Hillandale Farms Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Filed Over Sale Of Eggs Allegedly Contaminated With Salmonella

Consumer Files Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Quality Egg d/b/a Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms Of Iowa Over Eggs Allegedly Contaminated With Salmonella Enteriditis.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Quality Egg, LLC, d/b/a Wright County Egg (“Quality Egg” or “Wright County Egg”) and Hillandale Farms Of Iowa, Inc. (“Hillandale Farms Of Iowa” or “Hillandale Farms”) (collectively “Defendants”) in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (styled Hilda A, Dwyer, Martha A., Patton, Jessica T. Eason, Irvin B. Boykin, Mary C. Turner, and Patricia L. Dean, On Behalf Of Minor Abigail P. Dean v. Quality Egg, LLC, d/b/a Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms Of Iowa, Inc., Civil Action Case No. 1:10-cv-05847), alleging, among other things, that Quality Egg and Hillandale Farms tested, marketed, distributed, promoted and sold eggs contaminated with Salmonella Enteriditis to the public, according to a class action lawsuit news report.

The Quality Egg and Hillandale Farms recalled shell egg class action lawsuit complaint reportedly alleges that on August 13, 2010 Quality Egg d/b/a Wright County Egg issued a recall of approximately 228,000,000 shell eggs that it had shipped since May 19, 2010, on August 16, 2010 expanded its recall to include approximately 380,000,000 eggs and on August 20, 2010 Hillandale Farms recalled eggs that were distributed to grocery stores, other distributors, and wholesalers in fourteen states.

The Quality Egg d/b/a Wright County Egg recall reportedly includes the following eggs:

  • P1720 and P1942- with Julian dates ranging from 136 (May 16, 2010) to 229 (August 17, 2010)
  • P1026, 1413, 1946-with Julian dates ranging from 136 (May 16, 2010) to 225 (August 13, 2010).

The Hillandale Farms recall reportedly includes the following eggs:

  • P1860-Julian dates ranging from 099 (April 9, 2010) to 230 (August 18, 2010);
  • P1663-Julian dates ranging from 137 (May 17, 2010) to 230 (August 18, 2010).

According to the Food and Drug Administration (“FDA”), the shell eggs under recall include certain eggs with matching plant numbers and Julian dates sold under the following brand names:

The Quality Egg and Hillandale Farms recalled egg class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of the following putative class and sub-class of persons:

All persons, their estates, administrators or other legal representatives, throughout the United States who purchased eggs manufactured and/or distributed by Defendants, Quality Egg, LLC, d/b/a Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms Of Iowa, Inc. (the “Class”)

All persons, their estates, administrators or other legal representatives, throughout the United States who suffered personal injuries including death (“Personal injury subclass”);

All persons, or other legal representatives, throughout the United States who seek treatment and reimbursement under a medical monitoring program (“Medical monitoring subclass”);

All persons, their estates, administrators or other legal representatives, heirs or beneficiaries, throughout the United States who seek reimbursement for the purchase price of eggs contaminated with Salmonella and were manufactured and/or distributed by said Defendants, Quality Egg, LLC, d/b/a Wright County Egg and Hillandale Farms Of Iowa, Inc. (“Reimbursement subclass”).
