Netflix Class Action Settlement Of Video Privacy Protection Act VPPA Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Netflix.
A $9 million settlement has reportedly been reached in a class action lawsuit against Netflix (“Netflix” or “Defendant”), alleging, among other things, that Netflix violated the Video Privacy Protection Act’s provisions that allegedly prohibit video rental services from retaining (and failing to destroy) after a certain period of time certain personally identifiable information and records of the DVDs and internet video that subscribers requested or obtained, according to a Netflix settlement news report.
According to a recent Netflix 10-K filing, Netflix “engaged in mediation of a legal claim pending in the Northern District of California made in January 2011 related to our compliance with the Video Privacy Protection Act.
