Prison Industrial Complex demonstration arrests settlement class reportedly includes “all persons who were detained and arrested on April 15, 2000 near the area of 20th Street, NW and I and K Streets, Washington D.C., in connection with the protest against the Prison Industrial Complex during the IMF/World Bank demonstrations.” Many of those arrested were allegedly detained between police lines on the street, moved onto busses for extended periods of time, were in custody at least overnight, and were restrained wrist-to-ankle with plastic “flexcuffs.”

Prison Industrial Complex demonstration arrests settlement, if approved by the Court, will provide up to $18,000 per class member in compensation (to those who file a timely and valid claim form) and the arrests of IMF World Bank class members will be expunged and declared legally null and void. Under the settlement, the D.C. Metropolitan Police Department has also reportedly agreed to mandatory training of its officers and other measures to prevent recurrence.
