Honda Civic Tire Wear & Control Arm Class Action Settlement of Keegan v. American Honda Motor Co. Lawsuit Over Uneven or Premature Wearing of Tires

If you owned or leased a 2006, 2007 or 2008 Honda Civic or Honda Civic Hybrid, your rights may be affected by the Honda Civic and Honda Civic Hybrid Tire Wear Class Action Lawsuit Settlement.

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. (“Honda” or “Defendant”) has reportedly agreed to a settlement of a class action lawsuit against Honda in the United States District Court for the Central District of California (styled as Keegan v. American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Case No. CV 10-9508) alleging, among other things, that certain Honda Civic vehicles suffered from a defect that could cause Honda Civic tires to wear out unevenly or prematurely, according to the Honda Civic Tire Wear & Control Arm Class Action Settlement notice.

The Honda Civic Tire Wear & Control Arm settlement class reportedly includes, unless otherwise excluded, all residents of the U.S., Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, or Guam who have owned or leased a Honda Civic (model years 2006 and 2007), a Honda Civic Hybrid (model years 2006 and 2007), or a Honda Civic Hybrid (model year 2008 that has a VIN beginning with “JHMFA3” and ending with between 00001 and 10456).

Under the Honda Civic Tire Wear & Control Arm Class Action Lawsuit Settlement, Honda will reportedly provide a replacement of a “control arm” for current owners and lessess of covered Honda Civics who experienced uneven or rapid tire wear (a “Control Arm Replacement” means the installation of a rear upper control arm kit, replacement of the flange bolts, and a four-wheel alignment, completed in accordance with Technical Service Bulletin 08-001, dated January 22, 2008).

Settlement class members who already paid to replace their control arm on their Honda Civic as result of uneven or premature tire wear may file claims for reimbursement of parts and labor paid for the control arm replacement. Settlement class members who replaced their Honda Civic tires because of uneven or premature tire wear can submit claims to be reimbursed for such replacement.  The deadline to submit a claim is January 16, 2014.  Settlement claim forms can be downloaded here.
