American Indian Farmer Class Action Settlement of Loan Discrimination Class Action Lawsuit Against U.S. Department of Agriculture USDA

U.S. Government Agrees To Pay $680 Million To Settle American Indian Farmer & Rancher Loan Discrimination Class Action Lawsuit Against U.S. Department of Agriculture USDA.

A class action settlement has been announced by plaintiffs lawyers and the Department of Justice (“DOJ”) in a class action lawsuit pending against the U.S. Department of Agriculture (“Department of Agriculture” or “USDA” or “Defendant”) in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, alleging, among other things, that the USDA’s loan program with respect to American Indian farmers and ranchers was discriminatory, according to a class action settlement news report.

The Department of Agriculture USDA American Indian farmer & rancher loan discrimination class action lawsuit settlement reportedly will provide compensation to potentially tens of thousands of American Indian farmers and ranchers and reportedly establishes a federal advisory committee called the Native American Farmer and Rancher Council that will provide a forum to help the government improve loan services to American Indian farmers and ranchers.

I think it is great that they settled I don’t know if that’s what they wanted. I live in St. Croix USVI, we have almost the same situation where we were discrimated against by not allowing us to apply for a home loan or was put on an illagel waiting list, our lawyers did not do a good job in representing us. I would like to know if anyone can help us.

I am 1/4 Indian and have never brought my race into anything. I think it’s time I stood up for myself. I’m not on a reservation and feel that I should be compensated at least some for all the I have persevered.

This compensation is aimed at American Indian farmers who were knowingly discriminated. Jonathan, do you have any family on a reservation? Um… what tribe is “Indian”? Are you enrolled?

How do you know if you could possibly be a memeber of the clase on the american Indian Farmer Class Action lawsuit? I am a member of the Citizens Potwatomie Nation in Shawnee , Oklahoma.
My grandparents on both sides had land and tried to get loans. I would be an heir which might not be covered. I think at the time the land was in a reservation.
Also, my grandfather was in the Spanish -American war- he had land that was alloted to him. While he was serving the Indian agent sold the land without his permission. I have been told that the agent could do as he saw fit to do. Is that correct? If not could someone please give me the name of an attorney familiar with Indian law in Oklahoma?

I think it is great that the Indians are getting back our rights. I have a power company that Illegally built transmission lines across my allotments and I am cureently trying to stop them from condeming the land and stealing it. The Department of the Interior, The Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Land Owners did not know that the CPEC has built on our Indian Lands until we received a lawsuit. ( Civil Case No.:4:11-cv-055) Attorney General Eric Holder Jr. is letting power companies do this on Indian Trust lands. Know 100 year old trees have been removed without any permission, poles have been installed and land values have been lowered cause of this. I wanted to build a house on that allotment, know I have power lines cutting right down the middle.
The 3.4 billion settlement is a step in the right direction. The government has mismangaed Indian Trust lands for over 100 years. I have 200 acres and my farming and grazing rights in my account, only makes 1 cent every quater. Come on there is sumthing wrong. Who distributes these funds? The Turtle Mountain band of Chippawa Indians are getting screwed!!!!!!!!!!
