I purchased the New Balance toning shoes and after wearing them for several weeks (off and on) was getting such pain in the tendons in my ankles that I had to discontinue wearing them. The pain was so bad that I had to stop my walks for months, until reading about this law suit I was not positive what had caused the pain but now I am certain it was the shoes.

The same thing happen to my husband and I. He had bouht 2 pairs of new balance and his feet has done that too, he limps when he first gets up from seating and then I got a pair in Dec and a few weeks later my ankles and tendons and the bottom of my foot hurts so bad, I cant even take my grand kids to the park. I told my husband it has to be the shoes.

WOW! After trying to wear my toning shoes two summers in a row the light finally came on that the pain in my feet might be from weraing the defective toning shoes. I thought it was coming from wearing too many flat non supporting summer shoes. Come to find out that after discontinuing the wear of my toning shoes the tendions in my heels and ankle healed and are now fine. How do I get a refund for my purchase?

I had pain not in my ankles so much but on the balls of my feet and the sides of my feet (on the inside) above where the balls of the feet are after wearing my new balnace true balance sneakers for months. I walk at the gym and I also waitress and had serious pain in those areas of my feet and then I saw on the NIGHTLY NEWS a picture of MY NB SNEAKERS and it said they may doing more harm than good for you…. OUCH RIGHT??? Is this true that their sneakers are hurting people rather than helping? Please let me know if that is the cause of my foot pain in past couple months???

I bought the new balance toning sneakers and the base of my heel is so painful by the end of the day and the following morning that I have to wear other shoes for a couple of days until the pain goes away. I only wear them for short periods of time . I thought I might just need time to get use to them but that isn’t it. I’m not happy , expensive shoes and I can’t wear them or return them!

    • Tracy Heines April 6, 2012, 11:50 am

Susan, my husband has had 2 different pairs because we didnt know or even think it was the shoe, so he wore the first pair for bout a yr then got the second pair and his feet started doing the same thing then he gets his second pair and the pain does not stop so I buy a pair iin Dec. and after a few months the base of my heel is so sore and its hard to walk. Thats when i realize its the shoes. My husbands pain had never stoped even after he wears other shoes and I havent wear the new balance in about a month and the pain is not getting better

I bought Naturalizer’s toning shoes because they were lighter in weight than the Sketchers’. After wearing them from the end of August until January (slowly having leg and back problems) I got to where I could hardly walk at all without being in pain and couldn’t stand for any length of time. Since I work in a lab I thought they would be good for me. I have been under a chiropractor’s care since the middle of January. While I’m better, I’m still not in as good a shape as I was BEFORE I bought them. My doctor told me to throw them away!

I bought the New Balance Rock & tone shoes. After 1 mile I hobbled home in major pain. The first question from the ortho doc was ” did anyone tell you about the need to gradually break in the shoes?” I have been away from my work and have not a clue about how long the pain will occur.
I would like to find an attorney to discuss my issues.

  • Patricia Simpkins June 23, 2011, 7:36 pm

I purchased two pair NB sneakers for exercising and walking. I have had to stop wearing the shoes because they have caused bunion type lesions on the outside of my foot just below my pinkie toe. The shoe feels as though it is improperly cut or cut too short near the little toe. Wearing this shoe has caused me so much discomfort even when I wear dress shoes because of the protrusion on the outside of my right foot. It also hurts the ball of my foot and the lower area on my ankles. These sHoes are like new shoes but because I had worn them, the store would not refund or exchange them. Dissatified customer? I sure am!

I put on my “rock & tone” shoes for the 1st. time yesterday, and boy let me tell you something…. they weren’t on my feet 30 seconds until I felt pain in my left leg!!! But, did that stop me? NO.I WORE THEM ONLY INSIDE THE HOUSE FOR 6 HOURS AND,I STARTED FEELING LOWER BACK PAIN. I told my husband, I think its the shoes and then it clicked…Lawsuit ads on tv, even my husband saw the ads. Leaving now to see if I can return them…DUH!!!

  • Mary Gerard July 13, 2011, 1:43 pm

This past Spring I bought two pairs of the New Balance Rock and Tone because I thought it would be a great way to work my legs out. I wore them constantly switching from one pair to another. Well that was a big mistake. Like the others have mentioned above, I developed terrible pains in the heels of my feet that never seem to go away. I have completely stopped wearing these sandals and I am hoping the pains will go away. So now what happens? If these pains don’t go away completely what is my recourse? I feel crippled. I used to be able to jump out of bed in the morning but now the pain is so bad I have to slowly walk around untill it subsides.

  • Nadia September 23, 2011, 4:31 pm

I bought the New Balance Rock & Tone shoe about 5 weeks ago. I wore them 3 times for about 20 min. each time. The ball of my right foot started to become painful and it swelled. After 2 weeks of icing the area the pain was still there. I went to a podiatrist and he gave me a cortisone injection and said the shoes put a strain on the metatarsal area. Shortly after that I started to get pain on the outside of my right foot. The swelling went down some but the pain was still there so I went back to the podiatrist yesterday and got another injection in my right foot. He also cast my feet for orthodic inserts to help alleviate my injured foot. I am so upset about this! I’ve been an avid walker for many years. I bought these shoes because I thought I’d get a better workout. Now I can’t walk much at all! Getting very upset now. I sent an email to New Balance with my complaint. They replied they were sorry that “I thought the shoe caused my injury and would refund the cost.” Ha! I know the shoe caused my injury. I have never, ever had a problem with my feet before!!!!

  • Donna September 28, 2011, 10:58 am

September 28th,2011 I bought New Balance Toning shoes in May of this year. After wearing them twice I felt stiffness behind my knees. These are not the rock and tone style but the toning shoes. Since it was summer I would change them and put on sandals. I kept thinking my sandals were creating the pain. With colder weather I have been wearing them to the YMCA working out and keeping them on most of the day….WOW my pain and stiffness had me thinking I have arthritis…After thinking more about the shoes I’ve decided to take them back to the store and thank Jesus for the common sense to realize they were the source of my problems. These shoes are intended to have you strike hard on your heels and work the muscles in the back of your legs. 3 strikes and your out. I still like NB running shoes, but I’ll never try a pair of toning shoes of any brand.

How do I join this class action suit. I have tried the Reebok traintone and runtone and I recently purchased the New Balance Balance Board Toning shoe, that feels strange, but they said it is suppose to feel that way to force you to balance yourself. I’m pretty fit already for 45 years of age, I just wanted to increase the muscle build at my age to support my joints. Could someone please assist me and let me know how do I become apart of this class action suit. My email address is olivialey@ymail.com

I am so amazed! I think I finally found out what has been causing my foot, leg, knee, hip, and back pain! I was told by someone I trusted to know this info to purchase New Balance tennis shoes and now that I think about it, that’s about the time I started having the pain as mentioned above. I had stopped wearing them for a long time due to knee surgery, then I wore them when I recently moved ( 5 weeks ago) but I suffered for days and could hardly walk! Over the past 4 or 5 years I have had xrays, CT scans, MRI’s, ultrasounds, epidurals, and a long list of pain meds that did not work – you name it, I believe I have had it, trying to alleviate the pain. I cannot wait to get rid of them. I am glad I was surfing the internet trying to find info on a class action settlement tonight! Thanks to the lady in California who figured it out. I just broke my ankle yesterday crossing the street, wearing New Balance toning sneakers. I did not trip over anything; I just fell. My daughter mentioned that I have been falling a lot lately, I realized it has always been when I was wearing these New Balance toners. This was a company I used to trust.

    • Anne P March 1, 2012, 7:25 am

I fell 2 weeks ago wearing New Balance Rock n Tone shoes. I broke my tibia and my fibula. I needed surgery – 11 screws and a plate. I’ve been out of work since I fell and have a long recovery ahead of me.

I bought these shoes because I thought I’d get a better workout. Now I can’t walk much at all! Getting very upset now….

  • Hydee October 21, 2011, 12:02 pm

I purchased three pair, different colors, for working out and for working. Thought WOW… great idea. New Balance toning shoes have caused both feet to have significant pain in mainly three areas. 1. big toe joints, the rocking forward (due to shape of shoes) during walking puts serious pressure on these joint parts that you use for balance, has caused a cyst to develop in both big toe joints. (I know it’s due to the shoes because the pain and cysts have developed in unison directly following my purchase and use of the shoes) . 2. the sides of my feet radiating into ankle area. After walking in the shoes, and after taking a short break and then walking again, can’t hardly get going with out severe pain/aching and limping. 3. Lower Back pain causing radiating pain down right hip.. .never had this before. I ‘m very healthy and work out frequently, and have never had any back issues in my life, until now. The shoes look nice, nice concept to lose weight just by wearing them during walking/running/workouts, but VERY dangerous and life altering!!!!!!

  • Colleen October 22, 2011, 9:36 pm

I bought a pair of New Balance Rock and Tone. I thought they were so comfortable I bought a second pair. This was in early August. I have since fallen twice not realizing it was the shoes that probably made me fall, I have hip and leg pain so bad I can hardly walk so I went to the DR and had x-rays. They said I could have a hairline fracture and recommended PT. I also have such pain in my rear end bones that it kills me to sit for very long. I had an epiphany today it might be the shoes so I did a google search. Sure enough I’ve found that just about everyone that wears these shoes has problems. I’ve never experienced pain like I have for the last 2 months. I hope now that I will never wear these shoes again that the pain will subside. I don’t think I’ll ever buy a New Balance shoe again after experiencing so much pain.

I purchased Dr. Scholl’s shape up shoes at Wal-mart. I purchase these shoes on Sept 18th 2011. Since then I have had excruciating pain radiating down my left leg, my sacral joints are misaligned, and I am scheduled for an MRI. I have lost work and wages due to these shoes. I have never experienced anything like this, Waiting on response from Wal-Mart and Dr, Scholl’s. I advise everyone to think twice before purchasing them in the future.

    • melody aseltine June 12, 2012, 4:49 pm

If you find out anything Brenda please let me know. I don’t have my receipt but I still have the shoes and the box. There should of been a warning on the box.

I am relieved to find this site. I’ve Ben experiencing almost unbearable hip pain. 33 and healthy I should not feel this way. It dawned on me today that I received my new balancing toning sneakers for Christmas. About a month after…pain. I decided to type in new balance toning sneakers and hip pain. Shocked to discover the results. I want a redundant, I want to be pain free, and I want New Balance to acknowledge that their product is harmful to the alignment of human body.

I purchased these last year but hadnt worn them until this past weekend. My lower back, legs, calves and ankles hurt so bad I could barely walk. My pain medication would not give me relief from this pain.

  • Mary Stanton March 24, 2012, 10:21 am

I wore the NB 1442’s from autumn to the following summer. I loved them and felt I had never had such comfortable sneakers. The supported my arches as no sneaker had. But I found that when I switched back to other shoes and sandals, even with great support, the plantar fasciitis sent in. The rock and tones must have reshaped my arches, and though the pain has lessened, I still deal with it.

I purchaed two pair of Drsholls toning shoes and after wearing then for about two years for about 8 to 10 hours a day for work on my feet I developed a torn maniscus, smalls fracture on my knee and finaly I had to have a total knee replacement the doctor asked me various time if I had fallen to have such an injury but had not fallen and the only thing different was the wearing of the Drsholls toning shoes.

  • melody aseltine June 12, 2012, 4:45 pm

I had purchased Dr. Scholls toning shoes. At first I felt like something wasn’t right. I was walking my dogs and the shoe clipped the curb and sent me flying into a block wall hitting my shoulder and head. After a few months my lower back is so messed up I can’t stand up in proper posture. I have not worn them since they caused a pinched nerve in my spine. I have been trying to realign my back and muscles so I can walk and stand without pain. How can I get in a class action suit for Dr.Scholls. there was no disclaimer saying you could be hurt by this product.

  • melody aseltine June 13, 2012, 2:48 pm

Well if there’s any class action lawyers reading these how’s about starting a class a tion against Dr Scholls fitness walkers and toning shoes. They are just as dangerous to ones health as new balance.

    • Lisa July 13, 2012, 11:40 am

I agree. I sent out a couple inquiries only to hear they were not interested.

      What can we do?

      • Francine November 17, 2012, 7:22 am

I purchased a pair of Dr. Scholl’s Fitness Walkers (toning shoes), and was injured by them. In fact, I had to go to neurologist for the pain, some of which is still present today. I saved the shoes because I knew the shoes caused my injury. Yes, I too believe that a legal action should be brought against the company. Companies like Dr. Scholl needs to have products properly tested by disciplined athletes, walkers, etc. for a significant period of time before they place them on the market.

  • Denise July 1, 2012, 6:13 pm

I agree, I got the Dr. Scholls and they were horrible. My knees will never be the same….

  • jean spaulding July 10, 2012, 4:13 pm

I purchased a pair of new balance 1442 1 year ago. I never wore them for walking because no time. But with my sister here I starting walking after work every night. These shoes have totally ruined my life. I have been to a doctor, a massage therpitis , and a chiropractor. I am a server and I cannot work without meds. If you here where to file a law suit I am hurting everyday.

  • Wendy October 6, 2012, 6:16 pm

I have worn my Rock&Tones for over a year, felt great on my feet as I walk a lot at work. Now I find whenever I try to wear another sneaker I am in horrible foot pain. I don’t know what to do! I am so upset that these shoes can be sold and do this kind of damage to your feet!

  • Evelyn Johnson October 18, 2012, 10:04 pm

I bought a pair but they never did what they was advertized to do. i still have them but i dont wear them anymore payed over 40 bucks, for nothing, very unhappy.=(

  • Laura Neeb October 30, 2012, 9:48 am

I bought a pair of Dr. Scholl’s roller, toning shoes to help me get in better shape while I walked with my friend. I began having a balance problem while I walked/ jogged that I didn’t have before wearing these shoes. I also started to have leg drops with both legs and have been dealing with a bulging disc, spine misalignment, constant pain that radiates down into my right hip and thigh that I didn’t have before wearing these shoes. When I mentioned to my chiropractor that I was wearing these shoes he told me he knew about problems with this type of shoes and told me to throw them away! The constant pain, sleepless nights and expense of ongoing chiropractic care, missing income have been high! There should be a class suit against Dr. Scholl’s shoes also!

  • Vicki November 3, 2012, 10:24 pm

I was wareing the shoes and i was just walking down a small hill in the greese. then i just fell and broke my ankle in 3 places pluse dislowcaed now i have a steel plate pluse 5 screws on one side and a scerw on the other side. then it took 5 months for the inside of my ankle to heel. Ihad to go every 3 days to get it pick at so i guess it would bleed then it was to bring the new skin in. Then after that i had a knee replacement done.but after all that was done i had to go back in and get the mucle re atach to my knee again. Now back in therapy again so that is where i am now. This all happen i have the scares to show plus x-rays.

  • shelly November 16, 2012, 11:56 am

Well, i was dumb enough, that i bought 3 toning shoes, the first one i bought was skechers, i wore them for 2-3 mos, and my feet and ankles and legs hurt so bad, then i thought well maybe if i bought a different toning shoe, maybe that would work, needless to say i bought new Balance shoe, the lady told me the more i wore them the better my feet would feel…. well i wore them about 3 mos, and they were even worse. Then i saw and advertisement for Dr Schol, and i thought well maybe these will work better. well………………… they didnt so now im stuck , hurting everywhere back ankles feet legs knees, and 3 pairs of shoes that i cant take back to get a refund. But worse I am really in pain in those areas and have to live with it Every time i walk I have to watch and walk slow cause i feel like im going to fall down.

  • Joanna Moore October 27, 2013, 2:54 pm

My husband bought these shoes for me in January 2012. By June I could no longer run. My knees were bothering me so badly I couldn’t even take walks for longer then 1/2 a mile distance. I wore those shoes from January of 2012 to November of 2012 when I finally put together it was the shoes. I would stop wearing those shoes for a bit and my knees would start to hurt less, but still painful. Then I would wear them and my knees would begin hurting very, very badly again. Finally I put 2 and 2 together. But I am still suffering from the effects of those shoes. I recently saw a doctor concerning this and the muscles in my thighs are pulling wrong on my knee caps and that is what is causing the pain. This all started with those shoes and it has been over a year and I am still suffering.
