Levaquin Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Johnson & Johnson, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development LLC Over Alleged Tendon Injuries

Class Action Lawsuit Filed Against Johnson & Johnson, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development Over Antibiotic Levaquin

A class action lawsuit was filed against Johnson & Johnson, Ortho-McNeil Pharmaceuticals Inc. and Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research and Development LLC in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Texas (Beaumont Division) (Lisa Presley v. Johnson & Johnson, et al., Case No. 1:10 CV 00200), alleging that Levaquin, a broad spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic that is marketed as a first-line therapy for common bronchitis and sinusitis infections, allegedly causes a higher incidence of tendon injuries, according to a class action news report.

The Levaquin class action complaint reportedly alleges that Levaquin is in a class of antibiotics, fluoroquinolones, which are associated with serious side effects.  The Levaquin class action complaint reportedly asserts, among other things, causes of action for negligence, strict product liability for manufacturing and/or design defect and for failure to warn, breach of express and implied warranties, fraud, unjust enrichment and violation of consumer protection laws.

Is there a possibility of a pretrial settlement? If so, will a representative inform the subcriber of a settlement of Johnson & Johnson?

I was prescribed 750 mg of levaquin for bronchitis and walking pneumonia. On the second day, I had debilitating pain in my joints, especially my knees and hips. I couldn’t figure out why I felt so bad. I couldn’t get up without fearing my knees would give out and it was extremely painful. I also developed a constant headache and ringing in my ears. I am a teacher so I do not do extreme physical activities . I thought the pain was from laying down so much and that I just had to move around more. Well, that was crazy because I couldn’t move around or walk for the extreme pain. I had to take several days off from work because of the inability o move. Finally, I remembered that the doctor said something about tendon damage if I over exerted myself. I am now researching the side effects. It’s unbelievable !! I never have had this type of reaction from any medication, especially an antibiotic. I can barely get around and try not to sit down because of the extreme pain. I have to call my doctor tomorrow and warn her to never prescribe this to anyone. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. The rest of my body aches but the pain in my knees and hips are so bad I can not sit down in a regular chair but have to do everything from a high stool. This is crazy!! Please help and warn other people of this. Thanks–Sharon Griffith
