Samsung Refrigerator Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Filed Over Alleged Frozen Coil Defect

Samsung Refrigerator Owners File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Samsung Over Alleged Defect That Causes Refrigerator Coils To Freeze Over.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (hereafter “Samsung” or “Defendants”) in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (styled Jeff Weske, Jo Anna Frager and Darryl Myhre v. Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Civil Action Case No. 2:10-cv-04811-WJM -MF) alleging, among other things, that Samsung sold refrigerators containing a defect that causes the refrigerators’ coils to freeze over, resulting in the failure of the refrigerator to cool, which has caused consumers to suffer damages for lost groceries, spoilage and repairs, according to class action lawsuit news reports.

The Samsung refrigerator class action lawsuit complaint reportedly alleges that certain Samsung French door, side-by-side and bottom freezer refrigerators (model numbers RF266AASH, RS263BBWP, RB1955SH, RS2533SW, RS267LASH, RS267TDRS, RS2630WW) the refrigerators are designed and manufactured with heated coils that are intended to prevent excess frost from developing in the back of the machine, but instead of preventing frost, the coils allegedly allow frost and ice to build up in the refrigerators until the ice clogs and/or disables the machine’s fans, making it impossible for the fans to work to keep the machine cool.

The Samsung refrigerator coil class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of the following putative class members, unless otherwise excluded:

All persons or entities residing in the United States who own, or have owned, Samsung refrigerator models RF266AASH, RS263BBWP, RB1955SH, RS2533SW, RS267LASH, RS267TDRS, RS2630WW and/or any other Samsung refrigerator model containing a defect that causes the refrigerator’s coils to ice over and the refrigerator to stop cooling.

I own a RM255LASH and it has a problem that started out right after I bought it and continues to grow. When just a year old, there started appearing a few drops of water on the floor every now and then, nothing to be of major concern. Then over the last 3 or 4 years the puddles keep getting larger and larger. I started out just dabbing up the water and since the frig was out of warranty, I have figured that cleaning up the water was easier than paying someone a few hundred bucks to come look at it, scratch their head and tell me they need to be here when the problem is happening. Today the water is still running out every 2-7 days but now the water runs all the way across the kitchen floor. It happens every 2-7 days. My towels keep getting bigger and bigger. Note that a big sheet of ice also forms on the very bottom of the freezer now for about the same amount of time. I thought I was misled to believe I was getting a classy unit with the Samsung refrigerator but this has been driving me crazy. Being in the repair business myself and after having too many techs in the past say “can’t fix it unless I see it happening”, that has led me to skip calling someone to look at it. I do all my repairs for years now but this one has me stumped. I do see that searching for “Samsung RM255LASH water on floor” produces other people with the same issues as mine. How does Samsung get away with selling this junk? I never had a refrigerator before that gave such problems.

OK we have the same problem. I fixed the ice on the inside bottom of the fridge by replacing the tubing that goes to the plaster water container inside the fridge. It had a leak. We get water on the floor as well, but it only happens when we make ice. If we turn off the ice maker than there is no water. It has not gotten worse, but we are very diligent about turning off the ice maker. I take the back panel off at least once a year to get the ice off the coil. It is so annoying and lots of work. We normally see the ice form within the foam panel in the back of the fridge.

I have a Samsung RF32FMQDBSR and I have had the icemaker freezing up and no ice $4000 refrigerator and u would think u could walk in ur kitchen and make and nice ice cold drink with ICE .

In 3/2014 we bought a Samsung counter depth refrigerator RF197ACRS from Florida Builder Appliances. Not sure when it first started happening but in December we noticed water in the crisper drawers and upon removing them to empty the water we found a layer of ice as this is just above the freezer. So after contacting Florida Builder Appliances who did nothing, I called Samsung and they sent out a warranty company, Lakes Electronics. I live in a gated community so when the gate called I decided to go out to the driveway to meet the technician. I found it odd that he was walking up my driveway with a huge part under his arm. I thought to myself that is odd, as an engineer myself I would think that a problem needs to be diagnosed before bringing new parts into the equation. So after an hour the technician announces that it is all fixed but being an engineer I wanted to know more. The technician was very reserved and would not offer much information. I did get him to say that once this new part was installed he’d never seen this problem reoccur. So again my engineering kicks in and I decide they had a design problem. Well 2 weeks later same thing, and I call Florida Builder Appliances and they do nothing. So I call Samsung and had to go through this all over again. Amazing Lakes Electronics sends the same technician and this time he puts on a “leak” kit and tells me that Samsung instructed him that the refrigerator needed to be tipped from front to back. Folks you don’t have to be an engineer to understand that this is what we use to call a “kluge” in my business. Little did I know that it is all over the internet that there is a class action lawsuit against Samsung refrigerators since 2011? I asked Florida Builder Appliances to give me a full refund and they have refused. Their management is selling a product that doesn’t work, they know it and don’t care.

Did you by chance get any results from this I’ve been dealing with the same thing for way too many years

  • Amy Groves April 23, 2015, 11:40 pm

We are currently defrosting our Samsung RF267ABRS. We would love to be included in this lawsuit! We have spent time and money fixing this fridge.

    • Becky Connolly May 13, 2015, 5:01 pm

I am doing the same thing. Our Samsung refrigerator started freezing up within the last year and has ruined so much food either freezing it or thawing unnecessarily. Water build up in the crisper drawers, ice sticking together, almost burning your hand if you touch it. We unplugged it once in the last six months and let is totally defrost to see if that fixed it. It really didn’t. Then as of yesterday, it started making a terrible noise in the inside back. When the doors open, it stops, then restarts after closing. This is also one of Samsung’s bottom freezer double door refrigerator units. I am so angry that we spent so much money on this unit and it has consistently been a disappointment. We have only owned this unit for about 4 years, if that. I’m not sure if the class action is still going on but we definitely need to be involved in it. This is just awful. How can a company sell such a low end lousy product? Our Refrigerator is model number RF217ACBP.

      • Gerardo July 26, 2015, 7:47 pm

Becky, we are having the exact same problem. The reason the noise stops when u open the fridge is because the fan stops working. Your coil is frozen. I just took mine apart. If you remove all the trays out of the fridge and then take the 4 screws off the cover for the coils. The cover is the pond white thing on the inside back of the fridge. Then you will see all of the ice. I usually chip it off with a screw driver and hammer. Just be careful near the coils. Once you get the ice off it will work fine for about a year.

        • Raulmora August 29, 2015, 11:38 pm

I’m having the same problem I’m replacing the heating coil.

        • lana May 27, 2020, 3:40 pm

Yes, same loud noise coming from inside that stops when opening the doors.
Also, no ice being made because it freezes over…. so i stopped the ice making.
          Model RF24FSEDBSR AA06

        • Debbie June 15, 2020, 4:46 pm

My ice maker also freezes up. My husband is constantly removing the front of the ice maker & chipping out the ice. Has been going on since a year after we purchased this hunk of junk. It’s only 4 years old. I can’t even get the shelves out to try to get to the back panel. Have not called for service because of course it started after warranty expired! Anyone having trouble getting shelves out. So afraid I will break the glass. Personally, I would like to throw this piece of junk out to the trash!

      • Billy Bowen July 23, 2020, 7:29 pm

Have you gotten any results from this I’ve been dealing with mine for way too many years and spend that kind of money

  • Melinda Bass May 2, 2015, 12:26 pm

ice forming on bottom of freezer

  • Jennifer Ross May 6, 2015, 8:16 am

This is crap! We would like to be included as well. We were so happy when we got this fridge and now this! So yeah we would like either our money back or a new fridge please.

  • Rey Mendez May 12, 2015, 2:27 pm

Our model RF267AERS/XAA is showing signs of the same problem described in this lawsuit. I’ve attempted to discuss matter with Samsung technicians over online chat, but each time the conveniently disconnect once I share details of the problem at hand. I didn’t save for chat ID I was assigned by Samsung, but did on the second session before Samsung representative had chance to disconnect. It was LTK1125603876939X if that helps with documentation efforts demonstrating that Samsung is not acting in good faith to remedy this issue.

  • Jeannie Heath May 12, 2015, 8:46 pm

Wish I had seen this before I purchased my Samsung French Door Model RF217ACPN – obviously the issues have not been resolved and they continue to manufacture with this flawed system. The condenser ices over and then the refrigerator goes to about 64 degrees. No repair people can agree on what will actually fix it… thaw it out, throw parts at it and hope. I heard control panel, defrost heater, defrost sensor……… sick of loosing food and the money I paid for this. 3 years is not the expected life on any appliance – especially at this price range. I hope the class action is restarted, pushed, Samsung needs to recall and fix.

    • Billy Bowen July 23, 2020, 7:31 pm

Did you by chance get any results, because I’ve been dealing with mine for 8 years now

  • Ben Dam May 14, 2015, 8:38 am

We bought a Samsung refrigerator model RS267TDWP at Lowe in Albuquerque back in June 2011. We are having the same issue with the heater not working. It’s causing the ice build up and the fan rubbing against the ice. It’s making lousy noise when the right door closed. We are not sure if this is a warranty part. We want to be a part of this lawsuit. Thank you.

    • RA Wise June 27, 2015, 12:43 pm

You cannot just say you want to be part of the lawsuit on this blog. You need to have contacted the lawyers handling this suit which was at the beginning of this blog and a long time ago. Forget about getting Samsung to do a thing. They will not fix it and the customer service is worthless. They never admit to anything and say they have never heard of whatever you are complaining about. We junked the French Door refrigerator and bought a Whirlpool. I am more than pleased with it and their customer service. I will NEVER buy another Samsung product. You can pay for a new fridge with all the spoiled food you are wasting. I was soooo glad when they hauled that Samsung out of the house.

    • Kerry Lamprecht September 14, 2019, 7:25 am

I have a RF266AENPN 2 door with a bottom pull out drawer. Coils freeze up at the top and bottom. The fix for the bottom is attaching a copper wire to heating coil down to the drain but the upper half there is no fix. Constantly having to take food out of refrigerator to manually defrost the refrigerator. Have replace 2 fans already at temperature sensors. Makes load noise when fan is iced up. We want to be part of this lawsuit

  • Kathleen Bobbs May 20, 2015, 6:01 pm

Please include me in class action law suit. I called Samsung for repair as I keep getting ice under the deli drawer and need to defrost monthly, I was told by repair service there would be a fee to fix. Went on line for help and repair service recommendation didn’t work. The refrigerator is a piece of junk. Where are the quality standards. Note: I have a friend whose Samsung ice maker freezes up and makes one big block of ice with their Samsung. They too are so disgusted with their Samsung.

  • Pat O'Bryan May 21, 2015, 4:28 pm

I am experiencing the same problem with Model RF4287HAWP, purchased in September of 2012. I have had it “repaired” 4 times already. I have just spent 2-3 hours “chatting” with 3 (maybe 4?) Samsung people while the thing was being “repaired” (defrosted, basically) again by a repair guy. The thing is, it takes more than a year for the ice to build up enough that you cannot open the freezer. By then it is out of warranty.
I am not sure that it is even fixable. So, for the life of the unit I will be paying $200+ every 6 months or so to get it “repaired”.

  • Jeffery Hughes May 23, 2015, 7:16 pm

We bought a Samsung side by side model RS265LBWP. Not long after we noticed the fridge side was not cooling. We called for a technician. He came out and replaced something. The coils were iced over. We stopped calling technicians and resorted to defrosting the coils every month to three months.

  • Nicole May 30, 2015, 10:53 am

Yes, we would like to be included in this lawsuit as well. We have been having problems with water under our crisper drawer and Samsung claims to know nothing about this issue and will not own their problem. They want to charge me to have a technician out because they sway there is no recall; therefore, they will not pay for their problem.

  • Micah Bocanegra May 30, 2015, 2:18 pm

We would like to be included in this as well. We’ve had to defrost our too!

  • Margaret Gulledge May 31, 2015, 11:35 am

I have had nothing but problems with my Samsung Model RF267AARS? I have had to defrost it several times and this last time the service man informed me that this model has nothing but problems under the criper tray – ice forming, etc. I had been told the tubing was just clogged in the past – however this service man told me it is a flaw and unless a new part is installed by the manufacturer it will continue to “freeze up” – told me I should get this included in the class action suit for Samsung? I just do not know how I can get included in the suit. In the meantime what do I need to do to have the refrigerator fixed or replaced?

  • Don Flynn June 4, 2015, 9:48 am

Ours is a RF197ACPN, manufactured in April 2010. It does the same thing! I thought I was alone. Count me in.

  • Linda Cheek June 7, 2015, 7:51 pm

we purchased the RF 26 X AEWP Samsung Refrigerator from Lowes and have the icing and standing water . The refrigerator will not cool but freezer works fine. I am disgusted with Samsung. They should have to replace or repair these – We were pleased at first but have had nothing but spoiled food and problems . Please add me to your lawsuit.

  • robbie lapeyrouse June 10, 2015, 3:07 pm

I have a rf217acpn freeze up once a month repair said cannot be fixed. I would like take part in law suit , been going on for two years

  • barbara j.tabaka June 10, 2015, 11:33 pm

my samsung frig is not cooling proper and bottom freezer freezes too much which broke ice -maker, i’m still waiting for parts to fix it

  • Russell Brewer June 12, 2015, 2:10 pm

Model RF268ABRS is a total lemon. Nothing on this device works.

    To date:
The coils freezing over has happened twice. Each time causing a total loss of freezer contents.

Top icemaker froze over in the corner of the trey causing the ice crushing mechanism to break the ice tray and plastic pieces fell through the dispenser into someones cup. My elderly mother pulled a piece out of her mouth! Thank god she did not choke!

The bottom ice maker has failed multiple times and the design of it is an colossal failure. Anyone who has dealt with this knows exactly what I am taking about. It is currently not working.

The main instrument panel where the dispenser is located is currently not working. This is the second one that has gone bad and is a known problem. Currently in need of a third one.

All drawer mechanisms stick shut. To open the vegetable door or freezer door or ice maker takes full strength to the point of almost breaking something to get open.

Even the casters seem broken as we have to routinely pulled the fridge out to reset power due to frozen coils or reset the instrument panel. Just getting the casters to roll is a total ordeal and just sums up the fact that this machine is a total Samsung failure that we paid 2600.00 for.

Please someone that can help read this comment. We do not have the money to keep shoveling into this thing that is only a couple of years old.

Same thing happen with my fridge model rs267tdrs …. What we can do ?

  • Denis June 14, 2015, 2:28 pm

Same Problem. I have a Samsung RS265TDRS. Paid $1350 for this piece of junk. Puddles of water on the floor, fan iced up, lack of airflow, fridge warms up. Have to defrost manually. I’m pissed. I want to be a part of the Lawsuit.

    • Kelsey July 7, 2015, 7:50 pm

Samsung rs265tdrs is junk! I have had it less than 3 years and it won’t cool… Constantly freezing up, water leaking on the floor.

      • Derek July 30, 2015, 5:28 am

I am having the same problem with my rs265tdrs. Evaporator ices up causing a block of ice that stops the evaporator fan from running which in turn causes the refrigerator side to warm up. I am thawing out the refrigerator side manually every 2 weeks until I can get a new refrigerator. Seems a bit crazy since it was only purchased 3.5 years ago.

  • Denny Davis June 16, 2015, 6:58 pm

My RS261MDWP/XAA Samsung frig does ice up. They won’t fix it. What a piece of Japan Crap! How do I get in on the class action?

  • jim karolak June 18, 2015, 10:13 am

I have an RF 263 series refrigerator that keeps icing up preventing the fan from turning and the refrigerator from cooling. They installed a shepherd’s hook into the water line and yet the problem persists. I, too, would like to be included in the class action lawsuit against Samsung.

  • David Price June 20, 2015, 9:38 am

We are currently waiting for our fridge to be repaired – Model RS26TTDRS. Same problem freezing up the coils at the back of the refrigerator side. The Technician is waiting for parts on order. Cost of parts $400. Once they’ve arrived we need to thaw the fridge for 24 hours before he can install – Immense inconvenience. For the money you pay for these fridges it’s reasonable to have a high expectation of quality of equipment and proactive recalls. If the lawsuit was started in 2011 how come it’s not come to a conclusion and why have we not heard from Samsung?

  • Val Kosiecki June 22, 2015, 7:53 am

I purchased RS267TDRRS side by side in 2011. It broke down three times since (first time right after warranty expired!!!!). I’m sick of spending $200 on repair every time it breaks down. I would like to be included in this lawsuit

  • Robert Hodel June 22, 2015, 10:29 am

Would like to be included in this lawsuit. Have a RS267TDWP side by side Samsung. Fan noise problem. Would like a refund or new refrigerator with problem corrected.

    Water leaking

  • Mary June 27, 2015, 12:55 pm

It sounds like most of us purchased our Samsung Refrigerator at Lowe’s.
Why does Lowe’s continue to sell these faulty Samsung products to it’s customers ??
I think that if Lowe’s stopped stocking Samsung Refgerator’s and did not sell them any longer to their customers, that would hurt Samsung more than any of us could, and would prevent new purchasers from buying these bad units.

  • gary hitchcock June 27, 2015, 1:00 pm

I wrote negative reviews on Amazon and where I bought my refrigerator and in a few weeks I got an email from a VP at Samsung offering me a pro-rated refund. I rejected their offer and got a full price refund from where I bought it. I said the same thing to them, why did you sell a
product known to be involved in a class action suit.

  • Amy Keup June 28, 2015, 2:48 pm

Good afternoon. We are experiencing the same difficulties with our Samsung Model: RF266AERS. It is 3 years old and we have spent time on repeat service visits only for it to happen over and over. A thick layer of ice forms on the tray under the deli drawer. Then, the fan in the refrigerator gets louder and louder and we have to remove all of the food, put in coolers with ice, and defrost the entire refrigerator. Unfortunately, it is happening closer and closer together so we have little time that our refrigerator actually works. If possible, we would like to join the class action lawsuit.

WE purchased model RF263AEWP from Lowes about 2 years ago. We have had water leaking from bottom. Sheet of ice forming under deli drawer and now a loud buzzing noise that stops only when we open the door. We would like to be included in lawsuit.

  • Laura Flaksman June 29, 2015, 8:11 pm

We purchased the RF197ACRS model in December of 2013. We just started experiencing these problems as well. Huge puddles in the bottom. I would like to be included in the class action lawsuit. Please include me.

  • Calvin G July 1, 2015, 2:16 pm

How does one join this class action lawsuit? I’ve been having this issue since i purchased the Samsung fridge, and about 2 years ago I paid to have a tech repair it. It’s happening again, and i’m just going to defrost it to avoid paying another service charge.

  • Scott Hall July 3, 2015, 1:18 pm

We bough our RS265TDRS two years ago. The coil had to be replaced within the first 3 months. Just recently, the ice maker stopped working. We have attempted to reset it multiple time, but it doesn’t fix the issue. This was a huge expense for us and we are very disappointed with the quality and reliability. I really don’t want to spend the money to have it replaced, but there doesn’t seem to be another option. Samsung needs to admit that they designed a low quality product and do whats best for their customers. Please replace our refrigerator.

  • Gary Shepherd July 7, 2015, 7:25 am

Samsung model #RM255LASH refrigerator started freezing up . It is only about 5 years old and has been work on two times. I am not going to spend any more money on it. I would like to be included in the class action lawsuit.

  • Patti July 7, 2015, 6:30 pm

So upset, my beautiful French door Samsung, purchased at Lowes less than 2 years has had many service calls, and today I was informed the coils are frozen solid, no air is circulating, and there is nothing they can do! It is the main problem according to my repairman, he said most of them are not able to be fixed! This is just so wrong! He said Samsung will not take responsibility for it, but , I will join this class action suit for sure! Just have to research and find out how do that, any suggestions, please?

    • Andrew Sparks July 10, 2015, 8:03 pm

I have experience the same problem, icing up of my Samsung refrigerator. Samsung referred me to a local repair shop as the warranty had expired. Paid $110 for a technician to do a visit where he asked to borrow a hair dryer to help defrost the refrigerator. Still is icing up every few months.

  • Allyson Trionfo July 8, 2015, 11:52 pm

I too own a Samsung Refrigerator model #RF217ACBP. Same problem as everyone else, water under the crisper drawer, I did have someone come out and repair it but my ice maker continues to freeze and it can’t always make ice. How do I get in on this class action lawsuit? This fridge has been nothing but problems. Now my crisper drawer is cracked and of course because they say my warranty only covers mechanical issues forget them replacing the drawer. I feel bad for anyone who didn’t have their coils fixed where it is freezing and leaving water under their drawers, I did catch mine in time but it was just leaving a big puddle under my crisper drawer and would leak out everywhere. I just want in on the lawsuit for sure because I believe Samsung should step up and take responsibility for a product they are selling that is just so messed up.

  • William Williams July 9, 2015, 12:30 pm

I also have a Samsung RS267LBSH that the coil has frozen and I was told that the heater is bad not allowing the ice to thaw from the coil. I was told that the $2600.00 refrigerator I bought will cost upwards of $1500.00 to repair. I called Samsung and all thy offered me was an extended warranty. The repairman told me this was a very common problem with Samsung Refrigerators.

  • Bill Thielman July 13, 2015, 4:00 pm

About four years ago we bought one of you Refrigerator/Freezers. To be specific it was a:
    Model #: RFZ67AEWP
    Serial #: JJOD4GBB400216J
First, a little background on me. For about 25 years as an engineer I designed commercial Ice Makers ( Ice-O-Matic and Cold Draft) and Refrigerators and Freezers (Traulsen) so I have a bit of a working knowledge about the issues below.
After the installation we opened it up and noticed that the two labels on the left interior wall were stuck on crooked. To us this was a sign that if the person in charge of applying these stickers had no pride in the job they were hired to do. Then to think that the Quality Control Department didn’t care enough to have it corrected, what does it say about the rest of the unit?
Next, after it ran for a while we tried the Ice Dispenser. After dispensing some ice and removing the glass, about a second later another cube was dispensed which bounced off the tray (the glass was already removed) and onto the floor. I thought this was maybe a “start-up” glitch. I was wrong. My best guess is that least one time out of eight uses, one or two cubes are dispensed after the glass has been remover from the actuator.
Then, after about a year, we notice ice buildup on the evaporator. We shut the unit off, emptied everything out and left the doors open to defrost the evaporator. I then removed the cover to see if there was something obviously affecting the proper function. I didn’t notice anything so I reassembled it, turned it back on and put the food back in.
About six months later the evaporator was frozen up again. This time we called the Sears Service Department (we bought it through Sears). They sent out a technician to fix the problem. (He also broke the water supply line to the ice maker which caused $30,000 worth of damage to our house.)
After about another six months the evaporator was frozen, again. This time we called a well respected local appliance repair service. The only thing he could deduce was that “maybe the Mother-Board was bad”. He ordered a new one and installed it. He also mentioned he had seen “a lot of issues with Samsung refrigerators”.
Here it is, six month later and guess what, it’s frozen up again.
After about the first year of ownership we seriously thought about throwing this piece of junk away, but we spent so much money on it we decided to continue to try to make it work. Now after another three years (and many hundred dollars) we realize what a mistake this has been. I will make a point (via e-mail and word-of-mouth) that as many people as possible know my opinion of this product.

Please add us to the law suit.

The comments above outline our problems, so no need to review that. Worst Refrigerator Freezer we’ve ever had/seen/known of. Ice Maker blasts ice all over the floor with even gentle pushing on the lever; ice freezing unit is so loud it wakes people upstairs; freezing unit coils freeze up; have to unplug and empty the whole unit to defrost (which it’s not supposed to do). Dismal excuse for even a cheap refrigerator, much less one that costs this much. I would like to join the lawsuit. I want them to come pick this unit up and drop a new one in place. Crappy since we bought it.

How may we be added to the class action lawsuit & Settlement?
We have a model RS265TDBP Date of Manufacture: June 2012
We are having to also spend money fixing this mess.

    Thank you!

My refrigerator is leaking and the heater pad behind the water tank quit working.
I am a very loyal customer of Samsung products and I am in need of help getting this
    Product repaired.

I too own a Samsung Refrigerator (RS267) and have had so many problems with it, from coil freezing up to water leakage below the fridge. I have even had it serviced about a year after I bought it. I will NEVER buy a Samsung fridge again. I’m truly very disappointed with the product and service/support they (don’t) offer. It seemed I had to jump through so many hoops and call so many places just to get someone to come service it.

  • Donna Gordon July 17, 2015, 7:01 am

We bought a RF26x Series freezer on bottom refrigerator in 2010. We have had several problem with ice maker freezing up and now we are having a problem with ice forming under the crisper drawers. We also had problems with water running from the water dispenser on front door of the refrigerator that wouldn’t shut off.

  • Sherry July 19, 2015, 1:31 pm

We have had our Samsung RFG297 for a bit but just noticed last year that we started getting water under our deli drawer and it was freezing there making it impossible to pull the deli drawer out. We periodically pull the drawer out and clean out the bottom but would like to know if there is anyway we can still participate in the class action suit. We purchased our refrigerator at Lowes as we do all of our appliances.

  • Yuichi Urai July 21, 2015, 9:17 pm

We have RF267AERS/XAA that came with the house we bought. There had been some water under the drawer, and a couple of days ago, the temperature ’38’ has been flashing and the food compartment has not been cool enough, and we needed to throw away some food because they went bad. After a web research and just found that so many people have been suffered from the similar issues. There are a thick ice built up under the panel.

  • ashley hutter July 23, 2015, 5:01 pm

I am also having all the same problems with my samsung rf267abrs. I have lost 3 gallons of milk and other things, but the milk is what led me to noticing the problem, after looking online I have seen videos and looked for the ice damns coming from the vent holes in the back of the fridge and sure enough mine are full of ice, meaning no cold air is coming out and therefore things are not staying cold, Ive done the power cool a few times to try to help prolong food life while i figure out how to get this fixed. I don’t think just writing on here gets you on the class action lawsuit..anyone know where to specifically sign up and submit for reimbursement?

  • M Richards July 23, 2015, 8:17 pm

I’m late to the party… Samsung RF266. Ice build up- keeping the fan from spinning, hours of work, spoiled food – and now I read that I should take it apart every three months to keep it from happening again….??

    Hmmm.

Let me know what I need to do to be a part of the Class action suit please.

  • Armando Lizardi July 24, 2015, 3:25 pm

I have a Samsung refrigerator model# RF263BEAESR it has the exact same problem. Every couple of months the evaporator case vents are completely covered in ice. I have to defrost the refrigerator causing a huge mess, and ruining food. This is a obvious defective design, simply go online and search for “Samsung ice build-up” I truly hope that Samsung does something about this issue.

  • elena portillo July 24, 2015, 11:49 pm

same problem with my samsung rs267tdrs i contac samsung but it waisted time they told me that i have to pay to the technician to repair the problem

  • elena portillo July 25, 2015, 12:00 am

  • warren stanley July 27, 2015, 6:31 pm

bought Samsung rs253basb refrigerator at best buys first unit overcooled sent repairman out who only knew about maytag products he repaired it after ordering a part and returning several days later, next day same problem. notified best buy and they sent new model out. later new one started leaking water on floor and in bins, out of warranty I opened inside up to find condenser frozen and drain for condenser frozen solid.six months later refrigerator side quit cooling and condenser frozen up again.very poor design

  • Vickie Brown August 2, 2015, 4:55 pm

Ours starts making the noise, and then when you open the doors, it stops. But starts up again when you close the doors. You can see the Ice on the back panel. We have had to remove everything and unplug it many times – What a pain in the butt. We would also like to be involved in this class-action suit.

  • Jerry Hefner August 2, 2015, 7:09 pm

I purchased a Samsung Side by Side Refrigerator Model RS263 in Feb 2012 and began having a coil freezing problem in Nov 2014. Have replaced the rear panel with fan and the refrigerator control panel and am still having freeze up problems. This problem has significant effect on the operating temperature of the refrigerator costing very significant amounts of time and money for service and for the cost of lost food.

Have a number of Samsung electronics and appliances and until now had the highest regard for Samsung products. This design problem has not been acknowledged by Samsung and they have been less than helpful regarding questions and resolution.
They know the problem and have not provided a resolution as of yet. Samsung was bigger than this in the past. Success appears to result in arrogance and lack of accountability.

  • Ephraim Abate August 3, 2015, 11:05 am

I bought Model#RS253BAWW coil trmomdous ice build causing the inside to be pushed out to the doors. Samsung claimed never heard any problem.

  • Dee August 4, 2015, 9:53 am

We purchased the black French door style a year ago. At 2 days prior to the warranty, we heard a horrible loud sounds coming from the r frig actor part…called repairmen immediately because we knew the warranty was about to expire. They came in and replaced the defective part, presumably with the same design defect of the original model. It worked great for 2 months. Yesterday, our temp was 65 degrees…contacted them after my husbands insistence, I will say that the person he spoke to on the phone was kind and professional. ..they said that they would have us pay labor and they would provide parts free or we could get an extended $378 year warrantee. So our expensive 3000 plus fridge can last another year?

Noticed the judges in the class actions will not acknowledge litigants who are not in their state…another suit said they had passed the statute of limitations and it goes in and on. They compensated in Great Britain but not US…

My feeling is this…if the class action suit is not effective or in addition to it, we need to be contacting The big box stores that sell these defective products and get them to stop selling them. How about a campaign on Twitter and social media to help prevent consumers from making the same mistakes we did.

  • Donna Horan August 9, 2015, 4:48 pm

My fridge is doing the same thing I want justice

  • sandra katherman August 10, 2015, 9:15 am

i purchased a samsung refrigator in nov. of 2011, from lowes. i would like to be on the class action lawsuit. also against lowes for selling a defective product.

  • james hardenbrook August 10, 2015, 10:58 pm

Same issues as everyone else. Ive had to go buy coolers and ice then defrost unit, replace bad food, go buy milk in the middle of the night for the baby, then bought a freezer for a back up so now I have to switch everything over to the back up freezer when its time to defrost again. Whats the point of a fridge and freezer when you have to buy coolers and ice from the store since my ice maker doesnt work and a back up freezer to put in the garage to use when you have to defrost the entire unit once a month. What a pain but cant afford a new one. Id like to be added to this class action to get a replacement or reimbursement for the coolers and 1000lbs of ice ive bought so far.

  • Darren Roberts August 11, 2015, 1:32 am

I purchased a Samsung RS267TDRS along with a dishwasher, microwave & induction stove when I built my home in 2010. Since then, the Fridge has stopped cooling a total of 5 times where I have had to defrost it each time. This fridge has a serious defect. In regards to the other Samsung appliances I purchased, the microwave stopped working in 2011 right outside of the factory warranty. I was told the control panel in the touch pad was bad. The stove fell short to the same issue with the control board this year, and the dishwasher has had several issues as well. As far as I’m concerned, I have lost all brand locality in Samsung, and I feel Samsung should be held to owning up to these known defects and make it right with its consumers.

Please Add me to the class action lawsuit.

  • Darren Looker August 12, 2015, 6:06 pm

This is also happening with our Samsung RB 215. Unfortunately, it’s not included in the lawsuit.

  • kay gannon August 13, 2015, 2:17 pm

I have a RS2530B that has never been the quality I expected! Apparently it freezes over, Samsung would not cover repairs or service call. It has now comletely died–I want to be added to the lawsuit!

  • Sloan M. Knecht Jr August 15, 2015, 9:49 am

We purchased our home late August of 2014. All the appliances in our kitchen are Samsung. The first problem happened at Thanksgiving. Our Samsung dishwasher started leaking out into the motor compartment completely shutting it down. The first repairman sent out by our home warranty policy couldn’t figure out how to pull the dish washer out and said we would have to have someone else come do the repair. Had to wait another two weeks . The second repair servicemen came diagnoised the problem, but said he had to order the part. We went a month before the ordered part arrived . During this service call the repairman told us to be repaired for many more service calls because all of our kitchen appliances were Samsung and we’re basically junk plagued with problems. He suggested we replace our appliances ASAP, because we would more than likely going to be spending the equivalent of new appliances in service calls and repairs. Now, our refrigerator is making grinding noises and it’s obvious there is a fan problem as it stops once the fan stops. Also their is a problem with the ice maker. The cubed and crushed ice function doesn’t work properly. When using cubed we get crushed ice that throws ice everywhere. The ice maker freezes up and has to be emptied on a regular basis or it will lock up expelling crushed ice continually & the only way to stop it is to open the freezer door completely disengaging it. Yes, we would like to be part of the class action lawsuit against Samsung. Thank you!

  • Jerry A Crabtree August 15, 2015, 9:35 pm

purchased a RFG298HDRS 2012 from Lowe’s also bought the extended warranty good thing I did but now I find that this piece of excrement is on recall . both the top ice maker and lower ice maker are not producing ice. I would like them to come and take it and give me a refund for the 2000+dollars we paid for it. Yes, I think I deserve to redress and reciprocity we need to made whole.

  • Shannon Tuttle August 16, 2015, 8:50 pm

we have a Samsung rf265 that has been having a freezing issue with the back of the fridge since a year after we purchased the frig from lowes. How do we join the lawsuit?

  • Andre Doss August 18, 2015, 11:41 am

I have similar issues with my samsung refrigerator defrosting, icing and cooling problems purchased6/26/2010. i’d like to be included in a lawsuit

  • Eric Palmer August 19, 2015, 11:24 pm

I own a Samsung rf263aebp it has the freezing up problem about once or twice a year defrost completely works for a while.

  • Betty L August 23, 2015, 12:10 pm

My freezer starting freezing up last year. I called Samsung. They said it was out of warranty. They recommended a repairman. Having problems with these. The company has created a part that will keep it from freezing up, but it will cost you $500.00 for me to fix it for you. He also actually said it was defective. He said just defrost it for 3 days and keep items away from a certain area in the freezer and it should be ok.They should be paying for them to be fixed not me. I also want to be included in a class action suit.

  • Russell Brewer August 24, 2015, 9:01 am

We purchased our RF268ABRS from Lowes. We have lost all contents in the freezer twice due to the freezing issue in the back of fridge. Also both ice makers are in need of replacement and the instrument panel/dispenser has been replaced twice and the current one that is installed has failed.

  • Mary Leatherwood August 24, 2015, 12:34 pm

I have already posted on this site a couple of months ago about my Samsung Refrigerator forming ice behind and in the crisper drawers. Now the ice maker won’t work. Seems like there is no water getting to the ice maker. I just bought a bag of ice and put it in the ice bucket. Why is Lowe’s still selling this Samsung brand? If we all boycot Lowe’s maybe Samsung will correct all the problem’s we as consumers are having.

  • Thomas J Tiritilli August 25, 2015, 12:56 am

My Samsung RF266ABBP freezing up problems every month.

  • J. Ludwick August 26, 2015, 4:37 pm

Please add me to the Class Action lawsuit if possible. We purchased a RS267TDRS from Lowes in 2011 and are experiencing exactly the same problems every one else is. Refrig side not cooling, repair tech 4 times since purchase, horrendous amount of spoiled food. We move the food , when we discover the failure of the Samsung, to a backup Frigidaire unit in the basement that is 22 years old and NEVER has failed.

Maybe we should all band together and boycott the stores that continue selliing Samsung appliances.

  • Dave K. Royal August 27, 2015, 7:41 pm

Same as everone else, freezing and not cooling, mine does not have a front ice or water dispenser, but still has the same problems with the icing

  • Thomas McNulty August 31, 2015, 9:18 am

I own a 2011 SAMSUNG French French door refrigerator with a bottom freezer, bought from Seas. I just spent hours emptying my frig and freezer due to the ice build up. Missed work to try to save my food. Our model number is RF266AEWP. Please help.

  • Gary Martin September 1, 2015, 7:53 pm

I bought our Samsung RF267 at Sears and after about 2 years I have experienced all of the expressed concerns especially the thick ice under the crisper. It apparently is a huge problem and I heard about the class action suite while watching a “how to fix it” on You Tube. I had a couple of repair people come out and they did not seem to have a clue which be well known considering the problem is so wide spread. I am planning on going back to Sears and finding out how they would like to handle the problem. I have just been waiting for it to freeze up and then defrosting it over and over.

  • Christie Bury September 1, 2015, 9:59 pm

Began leaking and refrigerator part won’t cool. Not happy.

  • BABU ANTONY September 6, 2015, 1:29 pm

I am also having the same issue with Samsung RS263TD , ice buildup inside the fridge and it make unusual sound and stop working. Called Sears from where I bought it on 2010. With in 2 year I am having the problem for at least 6 times . Meanwhile the mother board was replaced . All together a lot money and waste of time and food . I also want to included in the class action lawsuit

  • Robin Friedman September 8, 2015, 6:29 am

I have a RS267. 3 months after purchase I called Lowe’s to complain that it was very noisy. They sent out a repair person who said he didn’t know why but he replaced the fan. 3 years later the same noise started. Right now I have dry ice trying to keep things cool in the refrigerator; freezer works fine. Lowe’s said there is nothing they can do. I have an appliance repair policy with the local energy company but who pays for the hours of my time and ruined food while waiting 3 days for a repair person. How long will it be fixed this time–or will it? I am with those who blame the seller as well as Samsung. Lowe’s is selling these defective refrigerators. With the power of the internet how do we tell the buying public to stay away from Lowe’s and Samsung? This is what will get their attention.

  • Edward Sauer September 8, 2015, 3:06 pm

I have a rs267td and I’m listening to the fan striking the ice build up this very moment. I have the disassemble the unit and thaw it about every 1-2 months. It’s a real pain and I’m about ready to do a home video on however to thaw this thing once and for all. THE tool that I recommend comes in 12 gauge slug and I think this will resolve the problem.

  • warren george September 8, 2015, 4:16 pm

Now that the extended warranty has expired we were told by the service company after several calls the only thing we can do is empty the frig and defrost monthly . This is certainly not a good way to do business. I tried going back to the store we bought it (Lowes)and asked if we could get a rebate or discount on another product. Your correct, they laughed us out of the store. For now we manually defrost the unit monthly, not sure how long we will put up with this but we are unable to afford a new unit.

  • Ronald Weathers September 14, 2015, 12:16 pm

We have model RS265TDRS with same issue. Had repaired last year, and now a year later, the coils and fan froze up with ice accumulation behind the panel inside refrigerator section. Unit is 5 years old, and have had this problem twice in last year. This model needs to be added to class action lawsuit as well.

  • Frank Ricca September 16, 2015, 7:55 am

The Rf266 AEBP also has the same problem, I have had 3 repairs performed on this unit from replacing the fan to the control board still the fan freezes over. Is there a permanent solution to this problem?

  • Judith Robertson June 7, 2019, 3:08 pm

We have an RF26BEAEWW/AA Samsung 3 door refrigerator which freezes up every time we go away for 10 days or so. I am really tired of losing food and having to clear everything out as well as the work involved in getting rid of the water and melting the ice.
Please fix this problem Samsung or replace the refrigerators.

  • Ram Prasad June 11, 2019, 8:17 pm

Model RF30HDEDTSR/AA refrigerator coils frozen. Bought this in March 2015. Can this be added to the class action suuit?

  • Janet laing June 19, 2019, 8:47 pm

We are now thawing out our Samsung french door fridge. What a pain. It was 55 in the refrigerator with water in the crisper drawers and in the bottom. It’s model RF26HFENDSR. It’s barely three years old. I can’t believe what I’m reading and why are they still selling these?

  • Peggey Patterson July 9, 2019, 11:37 am

We have defrosted our RF28HFEDTSR/AA for the 11th time. We lost approximately $350 worth of food because we were our of town. I am now looking for a new refrigerator and want to be included in this lawsuit.

  • Rose July 15, 2019, 2:52 pm

We have a RF236TEAEWW & it does the same thing. We installed the clip but it did not work & the company won’t help!

  • DIANNE AUTENZIO July 16, 2019, 8:17 am

I am experiencing the same issues with having 13 service calls on my refrigerator
    RS25H5111SPAA
Bought at Sears had 3yr contract have been told by their and other repair people its an ongoing issue Last year I renewed policy for $199 expires next month. The problems
have been ongoing and now they have changed their policy to say you need 4 calls in 12 months in which PARTS have to be replaced. I only have had 2 replaced in the 10 months and not sure what will happed on Thursday when they come.
How do I join you in this class action suit.
this is a disgrace it is a defective or poor plan in design

  • Kent Burzynski July 26, 2019, 1:22 pm

I have a Sumsung Model RF263BAEAESRSide by Side French Door Refrigerator that has the frozen coil problem. I have has it repaired about every 2-3 months for the last year. Four total repairs so far. Every time they tell me that this will solve the problem! They say no call backs after the latest repair. Surprise, within 3-4 weeks the back starts to sweat, then the fan starts to hit the ice for a couple of days until the ice stops the fan. Then you cant get the refrigerator below 50 degrees. Call for repair, 7-10 days. Then they have to order parts, another 7-10 days. Parts arrive and another 7-10 days to schedule appointment. Every time about a month without a refrigerator. Not acceptable. Need a buyout so I can get something that works!

  • jon gustafson August 2, 2019, 10:40 am

we had a samsung refrigerator model rfg297aars . we have had 13 service calls. they replaced 2 circuit boards-3c00ling fans 3 ice makers a styrofoam air tunnel-also made adjustments that didn’t work. we have lost food and ice cream. and time waiting for service calls over the last 13 weeks we would like to get into the class action law suit. we bought a new refrigerator.

  • Donna Underwood September 10, 2019, 2:25 pm

I have a 2016 Samsung refrigerator RF18HFENBSP and I have had nothing but problems with this thing. The back freezes up and I have to defrost it every week. The inside gets 60° and I have to throw away everything inside it so no one gets sick from it. I have had a repair man out twice to fix it and they say its defective from Samsung. Theres nothing they can do. For a refrigerator that’s only 3 years old this is ridiculous.

  • Daniel Schuyler September 28, 2019, 4:08 pm

I would like to be included in this lawsuit. I have model #RF268ABBP. I bought my fridge in 2011. I am having the issue of water puddling in the crisper drawers and ice forming on the outside of the bottom freezer drawer where it opens and closes. Water also forms under the cold drawer and then freezes making it impossible to open the drawer. It is very disappointing to pay this amount of money and then have the refrigerator not work properly.

  • Fred S. October 2, 2019, 11:22 am

We own a rf260beaeww which I have had to replace ice maker and now froze up and ruined food.

  • Kathy Dunn May 16, 2020, 7:37 pm

I got my Samsung refrigerator on August 4, 2016. I specifically searched for one with no icemaker because every one we have had broke and/or leaked. The model number for mine is RF26HFENDSR/AA, French doors, freezer on bottom. A few months ago it stopped cooling properly. We pulled it out, made sure the coils were dust free, etc. I finally noticed that the little openings on the back of the interior of the refrigerator had frozen defrost poking out them. We unplugged it for a couple of hours and then I even used a hair dryer to melt the ice in those little holes. It started cooling better for about a week but now it has started all over again. I am so pissed. You shouldn’t pay that much for an appliance only to have it stop working properly! I have been trying to call and message Samsung to no avail. Looked on here and found this site and wow! Now I see what the problem it! I would love to be included in the class action suit!

    • Katherine M Schroeder March 8, 2021, 12:45 pm

I bought a RF26HFENDSR/AA model in July of 2016 and have had the same issue. I had it serviced once by a Samsung-approved technician who replaced some parts, but the fridge is still equally defective. Is there a class action suit that I can join?

  • Lonnie Gordon May 29, 2020, 7:01 pm

I have spent hours on the phone with Samsung reps of all kinds, for the past month, and today a supervisor finally called me back after asking to speak to one 3 days ago. I was offered the same deal by both the case management agent and the supervisor, neither of which is acceptable to me.
They will give me the same model of refrig, which will have the same issues, or they will give me a refund minus $500 which is 25% depreciation.
I rejected both because my contention is that this refrigerator had a defective ice maker which I had to replace twice, and then it stopped a third time. When I called in the 3rd time that’s when they said they would replace the refrigerator, but I didn’t get all the facts until about the 6th person I spoke with within a months time.
Samsung neds to take responsibility for their defective appliance. I have been inconvenienced too many times now and I don’t feel its fair to ding me $500 for their problem.
I paid $2923.77 plus tax and that’s what it will cost me to replace this with a comparable refrigerator. Now I have been told I have no other choice, so I am going to write the President or CEO of the appliance section when I finally get his or her name.
