Me too. 2005 Nissan Maxima exhibiting same signs described above. transmission jerking randomly, after engine warms-up. Seems like it forgets what gear it supposed to be in, acting as if in Neutral, then jerks back into gear. This usually happens in 2nd gear; has happened both times when my children were in the car. The tires actually skidded last night it jerked back into gear so abruptly. Really unhappy to hear this problem is so rampant, a lawsuit has been filed, but hopeful of a resolution. I don’t see where anyone has posted anything on where to get current info on how lawsuit is progressing.

My 2005 is doing the same thing after it gets warmed up – jerking and acting as if in neutral then a hard shift back into gear. I have called Nissan Motors and filed a complaint and I am going to take my car into a Nissan service shop and have it diagnosed and then get back to them. The number is 1-800-NISSAN1 (1-800-647-7261).

Just replaced our transmission on 2005 Maxima for roughly $3300 at Edwards trsnamission plus 1 week rental car cost. Second Maxima in a a row that needed new transmission. Contacted Nissan. No interest in helping. Started experiencing problems just out of warranty. Jeff olbina 317-702-2939.
This needs to be a class ation lawsuit.

i truly agree because i paid cash for mine and i could have bought something else i have transmission problems now and i just bought the car in august 09 with 53ooo miles on it it started at about 90000 miles acting up i done spent about 4000 in the car already with motor mounts and every thing nissan said they would pay half but they want you to take it to their dealer which will cost about 3500 estimate i’m gonna see what i’m gonna do because i got about 5 names and numbers that have problems with their transmission to the same model will never buy another one again stick with toyota it’s the best.

I m having transmission slips once car is warmed up. This is dangerous. I also paid $900 because I was told this was a motor mount issue but it still happens. I would like to be part of this lawsuit.

  • Pat Jenkins March 11, 2012, 11:47 pm

My 2004 Nissan Quest’s transmission locked up last August while traveling, I had it repaired by a small service and towing company in Bullhead City Arizona. They only tinkered with it, spray painted it and charged me over $3,500.00 for a rebuilt transmission. 44 days later it went again. I went back to them, they had it for a month but claimed it was a new problem that wasn’t coverd on their bogus 12 month warranty plus while they were probing around it, they shorted out my meter (odometer, fuel guage) assenbly which costed me another $800.00. I sued them and just won the judgement last week. However I had to have Aamco trully fix it for $4,200.00… It is working now but I could have avoided all this if Nissan would have just come clean to begin with. I am super pissed off and want to get in on this class action lawsuit! I haven’t found out where or how to do it yet so if anyone out there knows, please let me know.

    • JIM March 16, 2012, 10:32 am

Mr. Pat Jenkins, I tried to tell you what was up… just because I feel for you.. really sucks that happened… the truth is your transmission was rebuilt… and really nissan’s to blame.. u can do some research through the O.D.I office of defects and investagions. that have hundreds of cases just like yours.. many, many had new transmissions put in by dealerships only to fail again.. send me your email and I’ll send u a copy of the law suit along with 2 other suits… oh yeah our rebuilder also worked for aamco 15 years… got tired of seeing people get ripped off.. if you think they wont say anything to get a sale.. YOUR WRONG.. how much do think they made of you really. you really have no idea… yeah it was a good bonus for them.. sorry to have to tell you but…. so like i said last time i saw you, just remember.. when it fails again. so i dont have to say i told you so.. do some reserach. oh yeah.. we didnt probe anything… didnt need to… theres a plug for scanning codes. I have no reason to lie..

  • Julius March 13, 2012, 7:20 pm

Its about time. I purchased what I thought was my dream car only to have the transmission jerk when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear and at times getting stuck in 5 gear. When I try to put it in manual and downshift; I can’t so my acceleration is very, very slow until I pick up speed. Which sometimes isn’t an option on residential blocks. I understand vehicles breakdown and unexpected mechanical issues arise but, with something of this magnitude happens Nissan should at least absorb half of the cost if you have them repair it. It’s not like they aren’t overcharging for their services anyway.

    • Jim July 2, 2012, 12:50 pm

      Hi Julius,
I have the same problem and discovered when the trany is stuck in 5th gear, put the car in park, turn of the ignition, and then start the car again. This should cause it to shift back to 1st gear. Therefor the problem isn’t just mechanical; it’s electical as well. Also I have learn to move the gear shifter over to the far right whenever I come to a stop. This will let me know what gear the car is in before I pull off. If it is 5th I restart the car to get it in 1st.

just wondering if any other repair shops have had any problems like mine.
I work for a small repair shop in arizona. last year we had a 04 nissan quest come in with transmission problems. trans was locked up!! so we took it apart and if needed to be rebuilt.. so we did that.. it ran great.. so far, so good…. so we thought. about 6 weeks later, customer calls saying trans is acting up.. ok.. told him to bring it back and will check it out.. so he brought it back, we ran codes and we got ECM, TCM error which was causing fluid pressure to be too high. advised customer that the ECM issue need to be addressed first.. (we dont do electrical) once that problem is fixed we would be glad to fix any problem that our rebuild may have caused.. customer said “we have never had any electrical problems before” and took it to another shop to have it look at and they talked the customer into buying a new trans from them. even though the customer had a 1 year 12,000 mile warranty from us.. we never told him we would not fix his trans just that there is other issues with ECM. the other guys said that ECM if fine… now since then i have been doing a lot of research on this subject and as we all know this is a common problem… however, we are now being sued for not only our costs but the bill from other guy as well..
GOOD GOING NISSAN.. ANY OTHER SHOPS WANT TO SUE NISSAN???

About four years ago I decided to purchase a vehicle for my wife to address our need for extra space for our newborn son and our two other children. We went to many dealerships Toyota (which I was high on), Hyundai, Kia, and others. When we arrived at the Nissan dealership my wife saw the white Quest with the multiple sunroofs and fell in love. I personally , would not drive it for about three months. When we went on a long distance trip I had no choice (too strange). Soon after this trip we discovered that the sun roof was leaking. Then the tire sensors started going, Now the brake rotors needed changing with the same frequency as the pads (every six months). Soon after that the transmision began slipping and knocking. We were told by our Mechanic that the mounts were gone. This raised my suspisions. I am reluctant to do any more repairs unless absolutely necessary and would appreciate the opportunity to put pressure on Nissan to take some responsibility for their inferior product. I would like to join in the Class Action against Nissan. Perhaps I could take my hard earned $$ over to Hyundai. It appears they may have an inclination of how to stand by their Product…

I am having the same problems in 2004 Nissan Quest. Slipping occurs when 1st to 2nd gear, seemingly only when car has warmed up. And I also noticed the jerking.

Any information on pending class action suits in regard to Nissan Murano CVT and or transfer case? I incurred a $3000.00 repair at 68,000 miles for a new transfer case without apparent external damage. Dealt with Nissan Customer Affairs NA for a month only to be turned down, 2 years and 1600 miles later, transfer case is shot, leaked fluid, car deemed “unsafe to drive”, no warning light no unusual noise/vibration. Now looking at $3400.oo repair, plus corroded subframe bolt (??only one of four is corroded) at a cost of $1300. Thus far, Nissan has turned me down again for assistance, despite the fact that the car could have suddenly stopped at any time, any speed, without warning. I have kept meticulous records of all phone calls.

    • jonathan severs March 31, 2012, 2:42 pm

Go to nissanassist.com . I found that and just saved a friend $5800 , got a new cvt trans put in her 2006 murano. Warranty has been extended to 10 years 120000 miles. They will even reimburse you the money you already have spent, good luck.

      • jonathan severs March 31, 2012, 2:52 pm

I found that info, when I was looking into the shifting problems we have been having for 6 or7 months hoping to find a secret warranty or something for my 2007 quest, when its warm it shifts hard up and down, stop and go driving can be a real nightmare.

I have a 2006 Nissan Maxima and when it got around 80,000 miles on the highway in between 10 and 15 miles per hour it would start to jerk. It also jerked when I would be turning a corner right when I would go to accelerate. After 2 month of this problem happening intermittently the engine light came on and then it did it all the time. I had an extended warranty and was able to get the transmission rebuilt. My AC goes out every year too. I have had freon recharged 2 times and this last time the compressor and a hose was replaced. Now the AC isn’t working again. Nissan sucks!

  • Keith Green March 28, 2012, 8:07 pm

The same issue here. I finally emailed Nissan over the situation and they responded back, in the same day, with a case number, and to take it to a dealership to have them look at it.

    • Brian June 11, 2012, 11:07 am

Did you take it in? What did the dealership do if anything?
My Altima needs a new engine.
It all started with the engine not running properly and then it would just die. I could start it up just fine and drive it but u just would never know when it was going to die. After I took it to a mechanic it still died. One day it finally coded with a P0420 code. I don’t drive much since I’m unemployed but I did drive it up to the local auto parts place and after replacing the crankshaft sensor and O2 sensors only thing left was the catalytic converter. Thats what it was. About half of the ceramic substrate was left. Fast forward 4 to 6 months and my car is using 1 quart every 170 miles and it runs poorly.
Nissan North America said that if I had an extended warranty they could do something and that what happened was due to poor maintenance. I asked them what kind of maintenance causes the screw to fall out of the power valve into the engine combustion chamber? They said nothing.
I loved my car before this happened. My Altima has 120,000 miles on it. I wish I had my Toyota Celica back even with the 253,000 miles logged on it, it could run circles around my Nissan Altima.
So I should pay more money for an extended warranty on a product that should have lasted longer than it did in the first place????
NO WAY AND NO THANK YOU NISSAN!!!
NISSAN CAN SELL THERE CRAP TO SOMEONE ELSE.

  • Vieanna March 29, 2012, 12:18 am

Just had the “service engine” light turn on, on my 2004 Nissan Maxima that has 99,000 miles and obviously I took it to dealer so they could do a diagnostic check. They came back and told me I needed a whole new transmission and quoted me $3,900 but I was able to get them down to $2,950 plus a 3 year and 50,000 miles warranty, but that’s a lot of money to cough up. Of course I decided to call other auto shop’s to get estimates, but now that I know about the class action lawsuit, I will use that as a leverage for a complete transmission do-over, or at least some type of massive discount on the transmission. Still very upset about the whole situation. Thanks fellow Nissan Maxima owner’s

  • Chris Pearson March 30, 2012, 7:11 am

Having the same transmission problems with my 05 Altima SE-R. The attorneys handling the lawsuit can be contacted here: http://www.chimicles.com/nissan-transmission-failure-altima-maxima-and-quest-vehicles

    • Paula April 11, 2012, 1:24 pm

Hi Chris, do you think these attorneys would take my case? I have an “04” Quest that just went in to have transmission done. Started having problems since very early last year but was told ” Oh no its not the transmission, you just need a complete flush out (Trany, Coolant, Tune-up). Had it done in July of 2011 and since then hasn’t gotten better, slowly getting worse. Last week it finally reared its head. Put it in park to drive, stepped on the gas and it reved up but barely rolled. Vehicle only now has 86,000 miles.

  • Chris F. April 2, 2012, 10:28 pm

Nissan needs to be held accountable for selling garbage. I have a 06 Maxima, started having transmission problems at 61k. Reverse to Drive jumping, hard downshifting, etc. Alternator went out at 58k miles..

I will NEVER buy another nissan again!

  • Diana G Munoz April 3, 2012, 4:28 pm

I have a 2005 Nissan Altima with only 17,000 miles and had problems with my transmission. Took it into the dealer when the engine light came on to find out that my transmission was locking and failing causing my car to jerk and making it hard to shift gears. 3,000 dollars later I had to get a new one. Now I’m having issues with the starter. When I start my car sometimes it turns on with no problems, other times it makes a weird noise and I have to turn on the ignition about 3 times and let it rest before it starts running again. I have replaced my starter twice and even replaced my battery but at this point mechanic can’t seem to figure it out. It’s becoming so frustrating because now when I get into my car I’m fearing that my vehicle won’t start. Need info for this action lawsuit!!!!! Please provide info.

I have a 2006 Nissan Maxima i have had the Catalyst Converter changed in Oct of 2011 and then my Transmission started giving me trouble and they told me if was the revloution sensor so i had it replace and now my Transmission has went completely out at a 100,000 miles. I have never had a car give me as much trouble as this Nissan Maxima and i have talked to several people that has had transmission problems with their Maxima as well and i would like to be apart of the Law suit as well. I am still paying on my car and they want $3000.00 to replace the Transmission at the Nissan place and every where else i have been dont even want to touch it because Nissan has had so much trouble. If you would please send me a email telling me how i need to go about the law suit i would greatly appreciate it..

    Thank so much

  • Jimmy Cooper April 13, 2012, 8:21 pm

I have a 2006 Maxima SL and is having the same problems as everyone else. My car has been sitting for nearly 6 months because of transmission problems but I am still paying on it every month. I only have about 67,000 miles on the car. Nissan needs to do a recall on the transmissions. I guess they rather loose customers than to do what is right.

  • Jeff godfrey April 17, 2012, 7:00 pm

I have a nissan myself with a bad tranny the engine is junk also nissan should pay for them both. Wore out junk at 80,000 mi is not rite.

  • Kelly Diggle April 18, 2012, 9:11 am

I have a 2006 Nissan Maxima 3.5 SE and I have the same issue with it violently jerking. I’m terrified in traffic that I may be rear ended because of the hesitation to go when giving gas and then it jerks hard before it will accelerate. Also, when ever I go from parked gear to drive it does the same thing. It’s scary having two children in the car and I’m trying to merge on the interstate from on ramp and the car totally stalls with a semi coming and cars behind me. When I purchased the vehicle it had a lot of miles so I bought the extended warranty just in case. Before making one payment I already had to take it in to be serviced because my turning signals, speedometer, all blacked out and was informed the warranty didn’t cover it. This vehicle has been a huge disappointment. Please let me know more.

  • Sharonette Shaw April 20, 2012, 11:24 am

I am relieved to see that a Class Action lawsuit is being filed against Nissan for transmission problems. I purchased what I thought to be a quality vehicle a 2004 Nissan Maxima with approximately 14,000 miles in 2006. At about 78,000 miles I began to experience jerking while decelerating. I took it to the dealer and was told everything “except” transmission problems. After continuing to experience the same problem I took the vehicle back and was told I needed a new transmission and was given a written estimate of $4,389.86! The car only has 80,000 miles on it. When I questioned the service manager about the intergrity of the transmission and not even holding up to 100,000 miles (the whole reasoned I purchased a Nissan) I was told “things happen”.

  • Mike Lopez April 20, 2012, 4:08 pm

Here are the lawyers handing the class action suit:
    http://www.chimicles.com/nissan-transmission-failure-altima-maxima-and-quest-vehicles

I have tried reaching them to no luck so far, but I am sure they are fielding many complaints. I dont know the status of the lawsuit outside of the fact that its “ongoing”

So I would suggest everyone looking for help to contact these guys. My 2004 Maxima is starting to have this problem as well. However, I suppose I am one of the lucky ones. I am at 125,000 miles and outside of the occasional jerkiness of the transmission, my car has been ok.

    • Terrye Richardson May 12, 2012, 10:21 pm

what do the miles have to do with that they put in defected transmission in these car.

  • Barbara Patterson April 21, 2012, 4:02 pm

Have the same problem with my 2005 Nissan maxima. The car jerks and eventually shuts down. After it starts up again it is in another gear and takes off slowly. I can actually feel it slipping and I am so afraid that it will lunge into another vehicle or into traffic. Can I sign up for this or get another case going since I’m in Alabama .

  • Steve May 1, 2012, 1:52 pm

2006 Maxima, same symptoms being described here. It’s fine when it’s cool but after 10 minutes of in-town driving, I get this: clunky shifts into reverse, laggy shifts into 2nd gear followed by a hard, sudden shift (caused by the engine racing during the lag), downshifts when slowing down are abrupt and seem late. 1100 miles out of warranty. Are you kidding me??

  • Latoria McSweeney May 7, 2012, 10:36 am

I would like to join this lawsuit as well…..horrible Nissan! You won’t get me again!

  • Sierra Mitchell May 8, 2012, 10:25 pm

I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima Se with a number of problems. My transmissions is sjerking really bad and hesitates when it switches shifts. It now has to be replaced. It was jerking so bad that is caused my motor mounds to break, they have to be replaced also. The wheel bearings and the struts also have to be replaced. Its like everything happened all at one time. Now I’m really stressing because I just dont know if I can afford to get everything fix neither do I have the funds to get a new car. I just don’t know what I’m going to do. I really need a miracle.

  • Michael May 9, 2012, 11:50 pm

I have the same problem that I’ve seen and heard described everywhere else. 🙁 Transmission starts to slip and jerk… hangs in 5th gear sometimes… eventually mine went out entirely. Car wont go into gear. Now they want over 4000 to fix it.
I just don’t have that kind of money. Who does in this economy?
Now I’m stuck with a car payment driving a cheap car I bought with cash. I will never buy nissan ever, ever, ever again. My first and my LAST.

  • Michael Mahorney May 10, 2012, 11:11 am

I have the same problems mentioned from other web pages for 2005 Maxima. I would like more info for signing up.

    Thank You,

  • Arleen Butler May 11, 2012, 2:30 pm

I have the same problems with my 2004 Maxima right now it at the service department when they say transmission needs to be replaced. My car was jerking hard when going into 2th and 3rd gear ,then other gears start to slip, slow when taking off from cold stop. I am very disappointed because I love my car.But too much money. Who has this much money at one time just to use on the car, when you are trying to take care of your family

  • martin josep May 11, 2012, 8:13 pm

It’ s about time for nissans to pay for their mess.I have an 06 nissan maxima that sit in my packing lot with the same probleme.then they are expensive to fix.

  • Terrye Richardson May 12, 2012, 10:13 pm

I am having the same problem everyone else is having , how could a big as Company like Nissan fuck up such a nice car with putting in defect.
It’ s about time for nissans to pay for their mess. who has this kind of money to get the car fix and have to pay these big as car notes. Why don’t everyone who have one just stop paying the note and let them come and get the cars then what will they do. They would end up with a lot of defected ass cars. LOL

  • Terrye Richardson May 12, 2012, 10:18 pm

I called Nissan Service and ask if they could get a tranmission tune up, they said no, they are not going to touch that. when they said that I knew something was wrong. I said to myself what have i got myself into.
Trying to pay this high as car note and get it fix!!!!!!!!

Just adding my name to the list. 2006 Maxima SE owned since new, 70K, erratic shifting, hesitation, $4400 estimate from dealer. Owned Datsun 510 (awesome simple car), Nissan Sentra, 280ZX, 96 Maxima, 99 Maxima. The ball’s in your court, Nissan. Will you work with customers or call them competitors? But I do have good news: the next big thing in the web will be the shift in balance of power from companies to consumers. Right now we can’t even conceive of what that would mean… which is how I know the prediction makes sense.

  • Floyd Napier May 15, 2012, 12:24 am

I am having the same problem. I have owned two other Nissan’s and had no problem. I buy a 2005 and there are more problems than you can shake a stick at. This car is definitely defective. The transmission problem is unbearable. There should be recalls to fix the problem.

Contact me if you have more information so I can sign up for this lawsuit.

  • Linda Ayres May 24, 2012, 7:59 am

2006 Nisssan Altima owner – mine has been jerking for over a year and the Nissan dealer will not return my calls. It started about a year after I bought the car new. Took it to the dealer on Cassat in Jacksonville, FL and they say the tested, but found nothing. Since the vehicle went over 100K it has gotten worse. My car still looks new…So sad, because this is a wonderful car otherwise.

I purchased my Nissan Quest brand new in 2007. This vehicle has needed the alternator replaced twice. I believe there is an underlying mechanical problem.

  • Nickoftime May 29, 2012, 11:23 am

I just bought a 2004 Maxima last month @ 112k/miles and 4 days ago i put it in drive and the car jerked hard and the trans slipped many times before i could make it to the end of my street.Im very disappointed .I had this car checked thoroughly by certified mechanic’s before i purchased it.even drove it for 3 days after i told the dealer i had concerns about the transmission problems i read about.smh! I know someone @ Coleman Taylor Transmissions and he said they dont even rebuild 04-06 nissan trans.they just put new ones in @ 3,800$.Im for this lawsuit!

  • C Jones May 30, 2012, 6:51 pm

Same deal with my 2006 Maxima SE. Transmission started slipping at about 70k miles (powertrain warranty expires at 60k). Normally in class action suits, owners of defective products that are the subject of the suit are given an opportunity to opt in to the suit at some point or everyone affected is automatically opted in and are given an opportunity to opt out if they want to go it alone. It is important to check for updates on the status of the case.

DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO JOIN THIS LAWSUIT? THOSE BASTARDS FROM NISSAN HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS. I used TO BE A NISSAN FAN, BUT NO LONGER THANKS FOR YOUR STUPIDITY NISSAN.

  • Natasha Petty June 6, 2012, 1:49 pm

I have a 2007 Nissan Quest and have experienced problems with acceleration and jerking when shifting from park to drive and reverse to drive. I also notice a jerk into 2nd gear when accelerating and slowing down. I was told the jerking was the engine mounts. Both were replaced and the problem is getting worse.

    • Arturo October 13, 2012, 11:10 am

I have a questions I have the exact same problem on my 2007 quest can I know what you did to solve it?

  • LAURA June 7, 2012, 3:42 pm

    Thanks!

  • Alethea June 7, 2012, 7:09 pm

I would like to join this suit also. The Maxima 2004 which I thought was my dream car has been a nighmare. I have had numerous problems including the transmission shifting issue, and many many other repairs. Please let me know how I can gain more information on being apart of this lawsuit.

  • James Cox June 9, 2012, 7:27 am

My stepson got a 05 Maxima. Hard shifting from 2nd to 1st, and from 1st to 2nd. Someytimes gets stuck on 5th and seems like it wants to lock up. Also suffers slips and oil smells burnt right away. Doing research I found that this website that states that NIssan extended their transmission waranties to 10 yrs / 120,000 miles. Look it up. Going to give them a call later today.

    Thanks!

  • Andrey Timonin June 15, 2012, 9:34 am

I have a 2005 Nissan Maxima. Transmission seriously jerks all the time switching 12 and 23. When my car was on warranty, I visited Nissan dealership 3 times, and each time got an answer “can’t find anything”. When the warranty was gone, I was immediately told to replace a valve body or the whole transmission.
I would definitely like to join this class action lawsuit. How can I do that?

  • Theresa Wright June 15, 2012, 5:48 pm

I’m having this problem now on my 2004 Quest S. Sometimes it accelerates fine, the next time it accelerates like a snail. NO codes are stored. Include me in any lawsuit. This van has been very, very disappointing. Nissan did a terrible job!

  • M June 25, 2012, 1:18 pm

Will there be a recall? How can Nissan allow ths to happen?

  • Amy June 26, 2012, 7:52 pm

I own a 2007 Nissan Quest and am having the same exact problem that everyone else is having. Jerking from drive to reverse and reverse to drive. I have a hard sudden shift into 2nd gear caused by engine racing after slowing down and re-starting acceleration . It’s fine when it’s cold but after 10-15 minutes of in-town driving is when everything starts to fall apart. I have been told by several different people that it COULD just be the valve body but with 138,000 miles a new transmission would be the way to go. I have also been told that this COULD be caused if you have not done a drain and refill with the transmission fluid every 20,000 miles. I have the transmission thet requires expensive Nissan Matic K. I have been dealing with the same dealership/service department since 1986 and feel very comfortable about what I am told. I have to remind myself that my mechanic did not build my Quest:) My engine light did come on at 97,000 miles and it ended up being the timing chain guides falling apart. Entire engine had to be dropped. Very expensive!!! Transmission issues started after this at around 120,000 miles. No further engine light as of this date. Good luck to all of us!! I don’t think another Nissan is in my future.

  • Marlon Simpson June 28, 2012, 6:22 pm

Bought my 2006 Nissan Maxima used with 47,000 miles. The transmission started to give out at 52,000 miles. Nissan replaced the transmission under manufactuers warranty for free and replaced it with a refurbished transmission. The replacement transmission started to slip and jerk from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd at 92,000 miles, only 40,000 miles later. Took it back to the dealership and they stated that since the transmission was out of warranty, I had to get it replaced without any help even though it was a refurb the replaced it with. I wrote a complaint to Nissan North America and the only thing they did was reimburse me for the $90.00 it they charged me to inspect the transmission. I should not be replaceing a transmission for the second time within 50,000 miles. Please advise on how to become a part of the class action lawsuit.

  • Karen June 29, 2012, 4:37 pm

HELP!!!!!! We bought our 2007 Nissan Quest SE brand new. This was my husband’s dream car. It was driving great until last year. I’ve had to replace the power steering pressure hosed replaced twice. And for the past year I have been experiencing major problems the transmission. It’s slipping, jerking and knocking. Took it to the dealer and Aamco and both said that I will need to have my transmission rebuilt which will cost abt. $4,000. Money we don’t have. On top of all of that my car only has 88k miles. I am furious. This is our only car and am afraid to drive it long distance because I am fearful it will breakdown on me. Nissan needs to pay for their cheap workmanship among other things. I want to join the class action suit. Can someone tell me how I can go about that. I am soooooooooooooooo upset and disappointed. I will never buy a Nissan of any type again…

Bought used 2007 Altima and had to replace transmission. You would think they would have figured things out . Hoping they have with the new 2013 models. I’m quite disappointed in reading and experiencing this on going problem. I don’t know what make to buy anymore?

  • Shevel July 6, 2012, 11:46 pm

  • Oswald July 8, 2012, 8:45 am

My 2004 Nissan Maxima transmission jerks so much causing my engine to leak oil….Nissan of North America and other Nissan local dealerships knew about the problem, but refuse to take ownership of the problem. It is in fact a conspiracy.

  • Donna St.Clair July 11, 2012, 1:40 pm

Thank God! They MUST be held liable for their faulty transmissions. I know at least 5 former owners of Nissan Maximas that have had to have their transmissions replaced or rebuilt, including myselft. When I spoke to a customer service rep from Nissan North America about possibly getting some assistance in the repair of my Maxima, I told her that Nissan knew that they put faulty transmission in these cars and her response was “I’m not at liberty to discuss that with you at this time”. Sounds like to me that they have something to hide. I still have my Maxima & I want them to pay for the inconvenience of having to ride the bus, rent cars, & get rides from other people. It was definitely a big inconvenience for me! I WANT IN ON THE CLASS ACTION SUIT BECAUSE NISSAN NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBLITY. I WILL NEVER BY ANOTHER NISSAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dal July 12, 2012, 1:23 pm

my 2006 maxima has the tranny issue also, not too happy right now.
if i replace it i want a full refund, hopefully this class action doesnt only bring back $100!!!

    All,
It is amazing that so many have this problem and no one seems to have found the CVT customer satisfaction program (see below) online from 2010. I was very relieved to see this, called the dealer and of course when I gave them the VIN, they said my 2006 Maxima CVT transmission wasn’t covered by this extended warranty. I then called NISSAN’s number listed on the webpage, but of course got an answering service, left a message and don’t expect to get a call back. http://www.nissanassist.com/ProgramDetails.php

  • Barbara Nelson July 25, 2012, 7:30 pm

I’m having the same problem with my 2005 Nissan Maxima. It jerks at times while driving. It also has a delayed response when going from reverse to drive. When it does shifts to drive; it jerks really hard. My car is now starting to leak oil. Help!!! I want to join this lawsuit as well. PAYUP NISSAN!

  • Jean Clervois July 27, 2012, 4:38 pm

I have a 2005 Nissan Maxima bought it not even 4 months ago. My car had been doing the jerking thing between the Drive gear and the Reverse gear from the beginning but I just never realized that it was something that required immediate attention. It’s not until doing some research online that I realized that I might have a transmission on its way out. I did more research and realized that thousands of other ppl are having the same exact issue as me. I just came from the local dealership and I was told that the JERKING was because of motor mount (The front one is cracked). I called a mechanic friend of mine who just told me that in the contrary the motor mount probably cracked because of the jerking not the other way around. I want to join the suit.

  • andre godfrey July 28, 2012, 7:51 pm

I have a 2004 maxima that the transmission to has all the same issues mentioned in this thread, slippage, jerking into gear, reving rpms on down shifts anything you can name. I took it to the nissian dealer ship and had it diagnosed and the result was internal mechanical failure with a price tag of $3,900 for a remanufactured transmission. Not a happy maxima owner….
