I am quite pleased to see that something is being done about the false nutritional labeling that Galeo’s has been claiming. I have been a loyal customer of Galeo’s dressings for many, many years and needless to say,
I was very disappointed to have found out the truth about their false claims but at the same time, relieved to know that my suspicions of the low calorie count in their dressings is, in fact, false. I wish more companies would be exposed for their false product labeling. This is just one of many who have been caught and exposed.

I wholeheartedly agree. I was recently diagnosed with kidney disease and was using their dressing because of the low sodium. Such claims are not just deceptive but downright dangerous to those of us with serious health issues. How dare they think they could get away with this and not consider how their product impacts the health of those who use it. Shame on them.

I’M FURIOUS. I WENT OUT OF MY WAY MANY TIMES TO BY THIS DRESSING, FOR MYSELF AND OTHERS, AS I ALWAY PURPORTED IT TO BE AMAZING AND HEALTHY. I’VE PUT MANY OTHER PEOPLE ON TO THIS DRESSING WHO SHOULD NOT BE EATING HIGH CALORIE, HIGH FAT, HIGH SODIUM FOODS FOR HEALTH REASONS. IM ANGRY AND WOULD LIKE SOME RESTITUTION .

HOW CAN I JOIN THIS SUIT??? THANK YOU.

    • Deirdre December 15, 2010, 4:15 pm

I would also like to know how to join this suit. Like others, this false information not only effects me personally, but I too, have turned many people on to these dressings who should not have been due to health reasons.

I agree!! I too drove out of my way to the 1 store I knew about that sold the dressing. I began eating this dressing daily while on Weight Watchers and thought it was only 1 point for my serving! I also told friends and family about it. Currently my friend and I send for them and split the case. This is so unbelieveable adn I am angry!

Please let me know too how to join. Thanks!

I am really upset by this false information purported by Galeos. I was introduced to this salad dressing at the Duke University Diet and Fitness Center who use the Miso Caesar Salad Dressing and have given it as presents to family and friends. I have ordered it online and was just about to order more when I glanced down and saw the lawsuit. I wish to be a part of the class action suit.

Have you received info on how to go about joining this suit? And, if so, could you kindly share it?
      Thanks in advance,
      Micki (Another furious consumer!)

I HAVE BEEN DIETING ALL MY LIFE. FINALLY I FIND A VERY TASTY LOW LOW CALORIE DRESSING. I WAS THRILLED AND TOLD ALL MY FRIENDS. WE POURED IT ON SALADS, VEGETABLES, ADDED IT TO ALL KINDS OF FOODS. I USED IT IN PLACE OF MAYONNAISE, WHEN AFTER HEARING ABOUT THIS SCAM, MAYO IS LESS CALORIES THAN GALEOS PRODUCTS!
WHAT AN AWFUL COMPANY. I WANT ANSWERS AS TO WHY THEY LIED TO US!!! DISGUSTING!

    • Kimber January 13, 2011, 4:33 pm

How about acting responsibly and reserving judgment until all the facts are known?

  • Micki December 20, 2010, 9:54 pm

I was introduced to it at Duke, also and have turned several friends on to it. One of the friends is on Dialysis and a very strict diet and has been using a lot of this dressing which we now know is very bad for her.
Does anyone know how to go about participating in the suit?
    Thanks

I’ve been using this dressing for years and have turned numerous people onto it as well over the years. I was always amazed how it could taste so good and claim to be so low in fat and calories. This is the only dressing I have kept in my house for the last few years and never worried about pouring it on my salad. I am surprised no one challenged this before now. I will be relieved to find out these claims are wrong, but if they are correct, I would like to see the company punished. I have a few bottles in the house right now and will be very careful about how much I use on my salads. I am ready to be part of this lawsuit.
Not nice to take advantage of the consumer.

I work for a dietician and we create nutritional analysis and labels for manufacturers. If everyone knew what was in their food, they would never eat anything again or be so busy suing people that they would not have time to eat. Unfortunately, the FDA will only check on manufacturers that get complaints. Small manufacturers that make less than $500,000 in sales a year are not even required to have nutrition labeling. I agree they should be sued! On a daily basis we tell people they can’t make claims that are not allowed by the FDA. I guess there will always be those that slip through the cracks. Good luck everyone on your lawsuits! I too bought this dressing but I do not have health issues so I am not too worried about.

  • Kimber January 13, 2011, 4:29 pm

Folks, just becasue someone files a lawsuit, doesn’t mean the claims alleged are true. There are 2 sides to every story — I’m
surprised to see how many people are so quick to believe an allegation based solely on the word of somebody they do not even know. I’d be more inclined to disbelieve the claims; it’s not like Galeos just bottled this stuff and put it on the shelf. There are strict guidelines enforced by the FDA and other govermental agencies before a product can be marketed and sold. How about we act responsibly and reserve judgment until all the facts are known.

    • KMW February 23, 2011, 10:35 pm

These allegations are definitely TRUE. I have been searching for the REAL miso caesar for weeks because the last bottle I brought home tasted really weird. I returned it. I tried again, another bottle from a different store and it is TOTALLY different from the original miso caesar. The dressing I have now is NASTY because they had to change the ingredients, PLUS this new bottle has a sticker over the old label with new nutrition data.
I am totally appalled and would love to get on this suit, too.

      • tanya March 7, 2011, 10:03 pm

I agree with the change in the recipe. The dressing now is horrible. I actually went to the web site to ask if they recipe had been changed. They never replied that it had, but sent me 4 bottles free instead. They are all the same new formulation. I will probably just throw them away. They all have new labels pasted on the outside with new nutrition information. I think the calories are now about 50 per 1 or 2 tablespoons. Who cares now, since the new stuff is inedible.

  • Jordan January 18, 2011, 9:43 am

If this is true, I would like to participate.

BUT, I totally agree with Kimber. Reserve your judgment. I, for one, seriously doubt this claim. I have been eating this dressing for years, and when I started a diet 3 weeks ago, I started putting it on EVERYTHING. I’ve been going through 1 bottle every two days. If it really had almost 10 times the reported calories, I would have totally ballooned, and I haven’t.

  • Avril January 22, 2011, 9:15 am

I, too, was ordering another case to be sent to Canada ( at great cost, might I add) when I saw the lawsuit …. I learned about this salad dressing at Duke University Diet and Fitness Centre and trusted that the nutritional facts were true. I have passed the name on to many people and gifted some as well, believing it to be healthy. I am angry! Put me on the list of those who feel they have been misled by false advertising.

  • Janet January 28, 2011, 4:20 pm

I hope the claims against this company are untrue, but I have to say that the minute I tasted the dressing, it seemed to good to be true. I wrote to the company, asking what methodology they used to establish the nutritional information printed on the label, and never heard back from them. At THAT point I googled the company and found out about the lawsuit. It would be great to learn that Galeo’s Cafe dressings really are low in fat…. but I’m not going to eat them until it’s been proven, and something tells me that what will be proven is that they’ve been deceiving the public. It tastes good, and that probably has something to do with it’s being loaded with fat and sodium.

  • Maria February 12, 2011, 6:34 pm

My bottle says it is made from Miso-I looked it up, it’s 25 cal per tbsp, wasabi, -5 cal per tsp-,vinegar, Ginger and lastly, some olive oil. Maybe it tastes greasy to you, but not to me.
I loved it before I noticed the cal count and will keep using it.

  • Dorothy Ackels February 19, 2011, 6:39 am

I have been ordering Galeo’s for years. I just saw this new information as I was ready to order eight more botles.

  • Wayne Dunton February 26, 2011, 9:35 am

I think that anyone that used these dressings must have known deep down that they were “to good to be true”. I knew after one salad so I looked into it and confirmed my suspicions right away. I did not keep eating away hoping that I was mistaken. Those of us that watch calories, fat and salt, would not need a testing company to tell us that we have all been deceived. Now what can we do in the meantime?
Go to or write to WHOLE FOODS MARKET or where ever else you may have purchased and demand that they remove this fradulent product off their shelves. This company does not deserve to make another dollar! Also, shame on WHOLE FOODS MARKET for even continuing to sell this product in question to its customers. The data that you can pull up on the internet and this class action lawsuit should have been enough for them to pull it from their shelves. I was told by their grocery buyer that they sell over 10 cases a week of this poison.
Shame on WHOLE FOODS MARKET again!!

    • L. Schumann April 1, 2011, 3:23 pm

Totally disgusted. I was using this on my salad every day while eating lunch, FOR MONTHS! No wonder why I hardly lost anything. I was so perfect and disciplined and now that I know what I know I want to cry. I only bought this for the low fat/low calorie claims. Ugh.

I want to be part of the lawsuit but still don’t see any info on how to do that. Maybe I will call the attorneys listed on the lawsuit.

  • mike nicosia February 27, 2011, 12:01 pm

If the claim on the lawsuit is correct I hope they put the company out of business.

Weis Markets in eastern PA area briefly sold Galeos dressings spring-fall, 2010. Were a tad pricey, but when I read the nutritional label, decided to invest in a bottle. Was hooked. The dressing was sold without the usual supermarket hoopla on a new product and as it was quietly in the produce section along with some other pricey items. Weis then, with odd explanations, discontinued selling the dressing this past November. Reasons ranged from telling me via email that Weis had never sold it, that it had been snuck in by an independent vendor, that Weis had never agreed to sell it. Galeos in response to my emails stated Weis had never paid its bills and Galeos had withdrawn the product from that supermarket chain. My next move was a 2-hour round trip to Whole Foods to stock up as the on-line price was prohibitive. I opened my last bottle yesterday; contrary to my just using 2 TBS tops in the past, made two salads suring the day, using about 3 TBS per. I decided to see if Galeos had maybe gotten a new seller closer to my home [had previously begged Giant and Wegmans to sell it; both were non-responsive]. Google took me to the captivating “lawsuit” site, unfortunately post ingesting 6 TBS of the stuff. Don’t have a bulimic bone in my body, but Lord did I want to after I read about the updated nutrition. I read and read. Was struck by the CEO’s not taking a vigorous defense/denial. His response was limp at best, muttering about okay re 1TBS when used as a marinade. Unlike all the times when an elected official gets caught with hands in the cookie jar and shouts via an attorney that s/he is innocent of all charges, that it is a political frameup, and the truth will vindicate the innocent victim when the entire story is told…the Galeos CEO denied virtually nothing about the allegations. Yes, I would want to be part of the class action law suit. I would also like to smack silly Hungry Girl and her ilk on all the “if it tastes too good to be true, it probably isn’t” cloying, smug little sermonettes. This was not about trusting Bernie Madoff. This was trusting a govt-induced nutritional label; apparently for many, trusting Duke University.

  • Karen March 4, 2011, 3:17 pm

The fact that they recently changed the recipe for the Miso dressing to one that is unpalatable, for no apparent reason, is an indicator of their guilt.
I’ve been using their dressing for years because I don’t tolerate high-fat, high-spice dressings. All of a sudden 6 weeks ago or so I noticed that the new bottles I had just bought tasted disgusting. So I emailed Galeo’s and they replaced the bottles without any explanation. I even asked them if they had changed the recipe, but they didn’t respond.
If the labels were in fact accurate, there would be no reason for them to change the recipe. It’s too bad, because although the dressing may not be “low fat”, it’s lower in fat than other dressings and uses sesame oil instead of soy (much of it genetically modified) and canola (totally genetically modified).

  • Kim March 8, 2011, 8:06 pm

I loved this salad dressing so much that I had a friend ship my supply from California to Tennessee. I feel very deceived and feel that big corporations should be penalized for such deceptions.

  • Robyn Zakar March 11, 2011, 5:52 pm

I agree!! I too drove out of my way to the 1 store I knew about that sold the dressing. I have been ordering this dressing by the gallon from where they make the dressing in Costa Mesa CA. I have been consuming dressing daily while on Weight Watchers and thought it was only 1 point for my serving! I have told everyone I know that is watching their weight as well as family and friends. I recently sent a letter to the owner asking for a refund for all the purchases I have made over the last two years. This is so unbelieveable and I have never been so upset and angry!

I really want to be part of the Class Action Lawsuit. Please let me know how to join. Thanks! Robyn Zakar

    • Elaine Fastow March 26, 2011, 10:24 am

I also want to become part of the lawsuit. The high calories, fat and sodium have undermined my health and I have actually gained weight in the last six months of using this deceiving product. I would have never know that it was recalled if I had not looked for it in Whole Foods yesterday and told that it had been recalled.

  • kathleen March 22, 2011, 1:17 pm

I first sampled the salad dressings at the Fancy Food show in San Francisco the first year it was introduced to the public…..My family and friends upon my recommendation have been buying this dressing by the gallon…..I just received two gallons last week….it had a different label…..made myself a big salad and something was certainly not the same…..went online today to see what ws up and found about the lawsuit…..honestly I don’t think I would have minded if the dressing was double in calories…..but 10 times the amount?????who makes a mistake like that….how do I join this lawsuit???? and I have a question …is the nutritional information on the miso ginger correct?

    • Laura March 29, 2011, 7:31 am

I have been using this DAILY and sending info to friends!!! I went out of my way to have my local gourmet grocery store to start carrying it!! It WAS the BEST tasting salad dressing for the calories so I am SOOOOO bummed. When I noticed a different taste, and look of the bottle I started emailing the company. They replied and sent me a bottle for free but, NO MENTION of the lawsuit. …..went online today to see what was up and found about the lawsuit…..I AM SO FRUSTRATED. I have been using this daily for months and I am a calorie counter. So what is the status on the lawsuit?

  • Wayne Dunton March 25, 2011, 11:36 am

KUDOS to WHOLE FOODS MARKET for finally pulling this junk off of their shelves!!!

  • Mary V. Baldwin May 15, 2011, 6:26 pm

When I was on Nutri-Systems our chat room swore that Galeo’s was the best for diabetics and I went to Whole Food and stocked up on all of them. Since they claim No Sugar No Carbs I was thrilled. Today 5/15/11 I went to Whole Foods in Tampa and was told that they had pulled all of the Galeos dressings off the shelf. No explanation was given to me. I would like to join this Class Action Suit and any information you can give me would be appreciated. I must have used Galeos at least 11 months..almost everyday. Thank you

  • Jordan May 20, 2011, 9:35 pm

Well, I tried to reserve my judgment, but now that they’ve changed the recipe to something totally gross… Well, all of the evidence points to their guilt. What a-holes, seriously. Talk about a lack of ethics.

I hope we all find out how to become a part of this suit. I’m not sure how to prove how much of this dressing I bought and consumed thinking that it was very low calorie, but it was a lot. We all deserve a fat check from Galeo’s.

  • Maria September 19, 2011, 11:36 am

I just read about the lawsuit and am really disgusted and angry. I’ve been using the Caesar dressing for about 6 years, usually twice a day, 2-3 Tbsps. each time. The deceit is unconscionable! This is about peoples’ health and well being. I would like to be a part of the lawsuit too. How do I go about joining?
