Citigroup & Citicorp Credit Protection Class Action Lawsuit Complaint

Citigroup and Citicorp Credit Card Users File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Citigroup Inc. and Citicorp Over Credit Protect, Credit Protector, Payment Protector, PaymentAid, PaymentAid Plus and/or Credit or Payment Protection.

A class action lawsuit complaint was filed against Citigroup Inc. and Citicorp (collectively “Defendants”) in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania (styled Anna Tractenberg v. Citigroup Inc. and Citicorp, Case No. 10-3098) alleging, among other things, that Citigroup and Citicorp market and sell credit card payment protection products such as “credit protect” “credit protector” “payment protector” “payment aid” “payment aid plus” (collectively “payment protection”) that are a form of credit insurance that are required to be, but are not, registered with the Pennsylvania Department of Insurance, according to class action lawsuit news reports.

The Citigroup and Citicorp Credit Payment Protection class action lawsuit complaint reportedly alleges, among other things, that Citigroup and Citicorp make no effort to determine whether a cardholder is eligible for Payment Protection benefits at the time of sale (or thereafter) and thus bill retired persons, unemployed persons, persons employed by family members, part-time or seasonal Pennsylvania residents and disabled individuals for Payment Protection even though their employment or health status prevent them from receiving benefits under the plan.

The Citigroup and Citicorp Credit Payment Protection class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of a putative class of all residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who were solicited by Citigroup and Citicorp to purchase Payment Protection and paid for Payment Protection (“Payment Protection Subscribers”) at all times the product was sold.

The Citigroup and Citicorp Credit Payment Protection class action lawsuit complaint is also reportedly brought on behalf of a putative sub-class of all residents of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who were not eligible for full benefits or whose eligibility for benefits were limited by express exclusions including but not limited to those Payment Protection subscribers who were retired, self-employed or part time or seasonal workers or were disabled, either at the time that they were solicited for and made payments to Citigroup and Citicorp for Payment Protection, or any any time thereafter while continuing to pay for Payment Protection.

I filed for payment protection benefits after becoming disabled. Had two credit cards with CitiBank. They paid one in full and said I had exhausted my benefit. I have been fighting them since 2003. This class action suit does not seem to apply to my situation. I will continue to search. If anyone reading this knows of any law suits covering CitiBank not honoring payment to ‘multiple’ accounts, please Email info to me.
    Thanks

Does this suite apply only to PA residents, or is it open to anyone in the US? Can a similar suit against Citi be applicable to other states? It’s the same company and the same programs… All I can tell you is that they took money from my bank account as part of my minimum payment DURING the “free trial period” and when I cancelled the program 3 days after receiving their TOS, and asked for the money to be put back, they insisted that, per THEIR RULES, they could only credit it to the total balance – they couldn’t even reduce my next minimum payment by the same amount. They refused to send me a check. I’m in WA State. As far as I know, they’re based out of South Dakota. What they did to me has GOT to be wrong, not just in one state, but in them all, right?

I need to join this as well. I paid up to $80/month for credit protector for at least FIVE YEARS and they denied my coverage when I lost my job.

They did the same to me, Stephanie. I lost my job in May, and after 2 months of being led on, they told me that I would be declined and to not even bother. And they never told me in December when my husband had surgery that I could apply for coverage then.

I paid for CitiBank Credit Protection because I am a single woman. I paid for approximately four years. In July 2010 I went to a doctor who put me out of work affective immediately. In the last three and a half years I have had five major surgeries. My entire cervical spine and a large section of my lumbar spine. I still need more surgery. According to my contract which I activated in October of 2010. I went through the short term required period of 30 days and I went through the long term period of 24 months following the short term. CitiBank gave me a credit for the balance of $292.00 as of July 8 2010 the day prior to me going to the doctor. the contract states that CitiBank would pay off up to $10,000.00 for long term disability. I had a balance of $ 2105.00 when I activated the account. I filed all the forms from my surgeons and other physicians as requested by CitiBank. Sent the decision letter from the SS judge. Citibank continued to send me the ” still under doctors care forms ” through the month of April 2013. I spent multiple months calling and getting the run around, so I obtained a Contract attorney who told me Citibank was absolutely in breach of their contract. My attorney has sent multiple letters and CitiBank continues to respond in circles. A lawsuit could bury me financially. Citibank without any notice to me added fees and penalties and charged my account off. I have filed a complaint with the credit bureaus and I am also going to the public media. CitiBank thinks they can take my money for four years then not hold up their end of the contract — don’t think so. I am in NE Florida, if anyone has any other ideas to help please respond. tired of banks cheating people and getting away with it.
