Insurance Brokerage Antitrust Litigation (MDL No. 1663) Class Action Settlement Affirmed By The Third Circuit Court of Appeals

Class Action Settlement Regarding Insurance Brokerage Antitrust Litigation (MDL No. 1663) Affirmed By The  3rd Circuit Court of Appeals

Two multimillion-dollar settlements in class action lawsuits that were consolidated and transferred to a federal judge in New Jersey that alleged that certain insurance brokers solicited rigged bids from insurers and received kickbacks for steering customers to those companies were upheld by the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.

Some of the defendants agreed to settle the claims, including one group of insurers, who settled for $121 million, and a group of brokers who settled for $28 million.  The district court approved both class action settlements and awarded $29.5 million in attorney fees for the larger settlement.

The Third Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed the lower court’s reasoning in approving the settlement, holding that the class certification requirements had been met, and that both class action settlements were “fair.  The 3rd Circuit also affirmed the attorney fee award, describing it  as a “reasonable fee.”

I also received my $4.10 check. I can’t cash it ,not made out correctly. I had no knowledge of this lawsuit. I never was contacted by any one . Totally unfair.

Based on the number of year we had the insurance policy and the premium, I’d say this was a little short! $4.10 versus $1000s in premiums payment, where did the Millions go? Lawyers? I think I’ll hold on, maybe a bigger lawsuit is in store!

    Plaintiffs $4.10 each
    Lawyers $29.5 million
    Shakespeare Henry VI, Part II:
Dick the Butcher says: “The first thing we do, let’s kill all the lawyers.”
And together they all think – AMEN

We have looked at the checks ( one to spouse and one to me) and figure we hit the jackpot. This is something we should frame and show off to customers. Proof that the clients get squat and the lawyers get the booty. Just think that some of the lawyers fees will end up electing Obama again…………………

I am in receipt of the $4.10 settlement in claim #0006813679, and I disagree with the amount awarded to individual claimants. Congress and the State legislatures should pass laws that require that the minimum amount each class action claimant must receive should be no less than $1,000.00. That is about what any individual claimant receives in a nuisance value claim. To send a claimant $4.10 as a full and final settlement, I think, in a disgrace.

Claim #0007233981 with a check of $4.10 seems a little odd to me, since I did not file a claim but if I am due compensation…..why is it such a small amount?? I was advised to contact my tax advisor—you have got to be kidding. What kind of a scam is being pulled here???
