Orange County Residents Settle With the Orange County Over Food Stamp Class Action Lawsuit.
A class action settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit pending against Orange County in the United States District Court for the Central District of California (styled Blackstar v. Orange County) alleging that certain Orange County food stamp applicants and recipients benefits had been unlawfully denied or delayed due to cutbacks at the County’s Social Services Agency (SSA), according to a class action settlement news report.
The Orange County SSA food stamp class action settlement reportedly includes a three-year Consent Decree designed to ensure more timely processing and approval of food stamp applications that establishes guidelines and deadlines with which the Social Services Agency SSA must comply, as well as an award of attorneys’ fees and costs to the plaintiffs.
The Orange County Social Services Agency SSA food stamps class action settlement consent decree reportedly requires Social Services Agency SSA to process regular food stamp applications according to certain agreed-upon percentages and times, as follows:
- approve at least 93% of eligible applications within 30 days of the date of application;
- approve or deny at least 90% of all applications within 30 days of the date of application; and
- approve or deny 97% of all applications within 60 days of the date of application.
The class action settlement consent decree also reportedly requires that, during the same three-year period, Social Services Agency SSA will process expedited food stamp applications as follows:
- approve at least 90% of eligible expedited food stamp applications within 3 days of the date of application; and
- approve at least 95% of eligible expedited food stamp applications within 14 days of the date of application.

I think its shameful when counties conspire to keep benefits forms citizen. I have applied for food stamps for the last two months in the state of Georgia, only to be denied for missing appointment scheduled. Here they schedule you an appointment but fail to notify you that they have done so. You receive a letter in the mail a day or two afterwards informing you of your missed appointment and the need to call and reschedule your appointment. When you call DFCS you are told all agents are currentlly busy and to remain on hold for the next available agent. Your hold time can be anywhere from twenty minutes to three hours when the recorded music stops you think you’ve finally gotten through to only have them hang up on you. On other occasions I have actually had someone to answer but not to speak to me to only lay the phone down and not respond to me saying hello numerous times but I could hear him speaking to someone in the office at his desk and them ask him who was on line one and he replied no one. I refused to hang up so stayed on the line for 20 minutes he never would answer so I eventually hung up and called back to get a message saying they were eperiencing high call volume and to call back at another time. I have been doing this since Septenper of 2014. Can someone tell me how to combat this
Yes, go in the offie and apply in person to avoid the phone connectivity issues.
