Facebook Class Action Settlement Of Class Action Lawsuit Over Facebook Sponsored Story Ads.
A settlement has reportedly been reached in a class action lawsuit against Facebook (“Facebook” or “Defendant”) in the U.S. District Court Northern District of California (styled Angel Fraley et al v. Facebook, Inc., Class Action Case No. CV-11-01726) alleging, among other things, that Facebook used names and likeness of Facebook users without their prior consent in Facebook Stories advertisements, according to a Facebook Sponsored Stories class action settlement news report.
Under the proposed Facebook Sponsored Stories class action settlement, Facebook will provide users more control over how their personal information is used in the Facebook Sponsored Stories ads feature and will also reportedly pay $10 million to various non-profit organizations.
The proposed Facebook class action settlement reportedly requests that the court certify the following proposed settlement class:
All persons in the United States who have or have had a Facebook account at any time and had their names, nicknames, pseudonyms, profile pictures, photographs, likenesses or identities displayed in a Sponsored Story, at any time on or before the date of entry of the preliminary approval order.
