If You Have Ever Purchased A Clothes Dryer From Best Buy, Paid Best Buy For Installation Of The Dryer, And Had A Metal Foil Transition Duct Or Vent Installed With The Dryer, A Class Action Lawsuit May Affect Your Rights.
A class action settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit pending against Best Buy Stores, L.P. (“Best Buy Stores” or “Best Buy” or “Defendant”) in the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota (styled Frankle v. Best Buy Stores, L.P., Civil Action Case No. 08-5501 JRT/JJG) alleging, among other things, that Best Buy sold clothes dryers in its retail stores throughout the United States and also sold delivery and installation services for the dryers and that, in the owner’s manuals enclosed with several models of clothes dryers, and sometimes attached to the backs of the dryers themselves, there is a warning label and other instructions, which, among other things, warns against and arguably prohibits the installation of metal foil transition ducts or vents when installing the dryer, according to the Best Buy Metal Foil Dryer Duct Or Vent Installation class action settlement notice.
Best Buy Metal Foil Dryer Duct Or Vent Installation class action lawsuit settlement class members reportedly include the following persons, unless otherwise excluded:
All persons who purchased a clothes dryer from Best Buy from October 14, 2002 to January 12, 2009, who entered into a contract with Best Buy to install or arrange for the installation of the dryer, and whose dryer was installed with a metal foil transition duct/vent and not at the direction of the Class member.
The Best Buy Metal Foil Dryer Duct Or Vent Installation class action settlement reportedly provides that Best Buy has agreed, subject to certain restrictions, to replace with a heavy metal or semi-rigid metal transition duct or vent any metal foil transition ducts or vents installed by Best Buy with a clothes dryer purchased from Best Buy that arguably prohibits the installation of metal foil transition ducts or vents and where such installation was not done at the direction of the Class Member. Under the class action settlement, Best Buy has also reportedly agreed to reimburse class members for their reasonable out-of pocket expenses incurred for, prior to preliminary approval of the settlement on July 8, 2010, paying a third party to replace a metal foil transition duct or vent that was installed by Best Buy on a clothes dryer purchased from Best Buy that arguably prohibits the installation of metal foil transition ducts or vents. Best Buy settlement class members reportedly must submit valid claim forms to the settlement administrator postmarked no later than December 1, 2010 to receive these benefits under the settlement.
In addition, Best Buy reportedly has discontinued the sale and installation of metal foil transition ducts or vents where such transition ducts or vents are arguably prohibited by the manufacturer of the clothes dryer in part as a result of this litigation.

I sent in the claim form but it was deneyed because I did’nt mark the fourth box. I called and was told it was deneyed, did not receive letter from them telling me why untill I phoned in February of 2011! I believe they should replace this duct/vent with a heavy metal transiton duct/vent. The installation instructions 0n page two states a rigid or flexible metal duct NOT the metal FOIL duct. My claim form was sent on 2/6/2010. THANKS, Dale Miller
I sent my form in before the deadline and have not heard a thing. Who do you call?
I sent in the required information 3 years ago and have not been notified! my email address has changed but not my home address. Best Buy installed the washer and dryer and used the flexible foil venting! Do I need to have a fire before something is done?
