AT&T Wireless Services & Panasonic Telecommunications Class Action Settlement of Cell Phone Locking Class Action Lawsuit

If You Purchased or Activated an AT&T Wireless Telephone From August 7, 1998 to October 26, 2004 and Had An AT&T Wireless Account With a Pennsylvania Billing Address, a Proposed Class Action Settlement May Affect Your Rights.

A proposed class action settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit against AT&T Wireless Services, Inc. (“AT&T Wireless Services” or “AT&T Wireless” or “AT&T”) and Panasonic Telecommunications Systems Company (“Panasonic Telecommunications” or “Panasonic”) (collectively, “Defendants”) pending in the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania (styled Afroilan v. AT&T Wireless et al, Civil Action Case No. 00469) alleging, among other things, that  AT&T Wireless and Panasonic Telecommunications violated federal and state laws by locking certain wireless telephones to prevent them from being used with other wireless carrier networks, according to the class action settlement notice.

Under the AT&T Wireless & Panasonic Telecommunications cell phone locking settlement, Class Members will reportedly be entitled to claim either a $10 Cash Payment or a 250-minute AT&T Prepaid Phone Card per each AT&T Wireless telephone purchased during the Class Period (up to a maximum of $50.00 in Cash Payments or five AT&T Prepaid Phone Cards).

The AT&T Wireless & Panasonic Telecommunications cell phone locking class action settlement reportedly includes all persons who, from August 7, 1998 to October 26, 2004, purchased or activated an AT&T wireless telephone and had an AT&T wireless account with a Pennsylvania billing address, unless otherwise excluded.

If you are a member of the AT&T Wireless and Panasonic Telecommunications settlement Class and wish to participate in the Settlement, you reportedly may submit a Claim for one or more Cash Payments or AT&T Prepaid Phone Cards, based on the number of telephones you purchased during the Class Period, by completing and timely submitting a Claim Form online or by mailing a claim form to the Claims Administrator at P.O. Box 2335, Faribault, MN 55021-9035, postmarked within 60 days of final approval of the Settlement.

A settlement fairness hearing is scheduled to be held before the Honorable Mark Bernstein in the Court of Common Pleas of Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, City Hall, Courtroom 246, Philadelphia, PA 19107, at 9:30 a.m., on November 2, 2010 to determine, among other things, whether the proposed AT&T Wireless & Panasonic Telecommunications cell phone locking class action lawsuit settlement should be approved.
