Consumer Files Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Spokeo For Allegedly Violating the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”).
A class action lawsuit has been filed against Spokeo, Inc. (“Spokeo” “Spokeo.com” or “Defendant”) in the United States District Court for the Central District of California (styled Thomas Robins v. Spokeo, Inc., Case No. 2:10-cv-05306-ODW-AGR), alleging, among other things, that Spokeo is a consumer reporting agency and that it collects and disseminates consumer reports in violation of the Fair Credit Reporting Act (“FCRA”), according to class action lawsuit news reports.
The Spokeo class action lawsuit complaint reportedly alleges that Spokeo operates software that allows it to aggregate data about consumers from a wide range of sources (such as phone books, real estate listings, government records and social network websites) and then displays that information to users online at Spokeo.com. The Spokeo class action complaint reportedly alleges that Spokeo displays the following consumer information:
- names of siblings and parents
- addresses (and value of property of home address)
- phone numbers
- marital status
- age
- employment information
- education
- ethnicity
- items sought from websites (i.e., music listended to, books read, etc.)
- economic health (formally “credit estimate”); and
- wealth level
The Spokeo class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of all individuals in the United States who have had their consumer information compiled and distributed or sold to third-parties by Spokeo, Inc., between January 2006 and July 16, 2010, unless otherwise excluded.

Iwould like to be included in this claim. Everyone has a right to privacy and much of the information is inaccurate and could be harmful. I have made several attempts to have my information removed from Spokeo and am unable to have this removed.
They claim that all we have to do is follow directions, but then the confirmation codes are not accepted, thus not removed.

This web site is dangerous to anyone trying to avoid harm from another person.I have tried serveral times to have my info removed. They connected me to unknown persons as relatives.They are connected to collection agencies,that have given out copies of books and logs with names of relatives and other unknown persons and given out social security numbers,addresses and phone numbers to strangers, whom than use this information for their benefit. Zaba needs to be stopped.

Spokeo needs to go. It contains information that (short of puclic records access ) I work very hard to keep OFF the internet. I do not use social network sites, never will.
I contacted Spokeo the only way they will allow, via email, b/c the site will not let me remove ANY entry of my information. They have an entry for every address I have ever lived at in my entire life.
I wonder if someone has ever invaded the privacy of those that run Spokeo, or the privacy of a member of their family, or a child perhaps? I suppose folks like this, with no scruples, wouldn’t care any way.
If those behind spokeo have any interest in standing behind a legitimate online service then allow those of us that don’t want to participate to remove ourselves with ease, hire some customer service reps, have a phone number and e-mail support that is answered in a timely and prefoessional manner.

I recently removed my listings and am so repulsed by this whole thing. I even wrote an email to them and amazingly they replied, saying that they retrieved my information from business sites, phone books, and other publicly accessed sites…THAT’S CRAP! One, I am not even listed in the yellow pages or other “phonebook” sites. My Myspace and Facebook pages are set to private..so where else are they getting my information?? And other things listed are my spouse’s name, my parents’ names, my age, and whatever else. They should just know what size underwear I wear, or the kind of deodorant I use. Another favorite of mine is the satellite image of my current and previous addresses. Please please please include me in this lawsuit. Unbelievable, these people.
I think sites like this are the founders for identity theft. Already a victim of identity theft, I have been working on getting my credit repaired so I can buy a home. However, with sites like this, and the access to all of my personal information, that could be in jeopardy. Please, please, please for my personal safety, and the safety of my family, shut this site down! I think there are some major legality issues especially when they are listing phone numbers that are unlisted numbers. I would like to be included in this class action suit as well! If they are wanting to do a “service” for people they should allow them access to the knowledge as to where it came from so that it can be changed/removed without charging a fee. This is a major security issue. And they say they are a search engine like Google. Google at least allows you to remove the publication of your information, without giving you crap. Facebook and Google Buzz both have had privacy issues before, a few lawsuits later they learned to respect privacy.

This is bogus, no one has the right to put out my private information without informing me about it. I am attempting to block my information but keep getting pushed out to Reputation.com, from within Spokeo’s website. This website had all my personal and my wife’s personal information on this site WITHOUT our permission. I have asked them to remove it threaten them legally. They still have not removed our information. This is how identity theft happens. We people try to prevent this from happening and then a site comes up like this. I hope something is done about this.

I was just reading an AOL article and it stated by just your name and zip code my information can be found online. So I tried it and soon enough I seen my information of Spokeo ! I am outraged! this is dangerous and I have never heard of spokeo before I never had my personal information up on profiles either never put my real name either. Something must be done to stop this and any other websites like it.
Spokeo shows me married when I am in fact single and this has damaged my reputation and relationships with several people.
Also, they show me as only having a high school ecucation, this is damaging as I have a degree in the field of my employment.

Just so you know, while spokeo may publicize your name and other info, becoming involved in a class action suit will further publish your name in conjunction with the lawsuit. So either way, unless you have a common name, you’ll end up on the net.

A friend alerted me to the existence of spokeo.com. I was shocked at the level of history and information that was available in an open public forum withouth even knowing it. I’ve spent the afternoon trying to have this deleted from their service, but I’m told that only one entry per email address so as to avoid abuse. I NEVER asked to be part of their directory and am offended at the level of intrusiveness. I never would have even known they’d taken my personal information for their business directory use unless I’d heard from a friend regarding this. Please include me on this class action suit.

I just googled my name and found Spokeo by accident! I was shocked to see all the personal information they were displying on me. I’m not on facebook, or they would show my picture! We must be sure to shut this compant down. On top of everything that they are doing to private citizens, they are bullies and won’t answer the customer service line. I agree with Janelle Pflager. I am a single female and have been on and off dating sites for a long time. I am now fearful for myself and my son knowing that many people i have briefly met who may know my last name can find out what street i live on and also have an image of my house. I am outraged. There are psychotic people out there of whom the smallest rejection can send them over the edge. I will file separately if no one else is.

I contacted Spokeo about removing my facebook link for starters; the Spokeo privacy screen said there was no profile with my facebook URL, but when I search Spokeo for my email it does show I have a facebook page.
