Samsung Refrigerator Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Filed Over Alleged Frozen Coil Defect

Samsung Refrigerator Owners File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Samsung Over Alleged Defect That Causes Refrigerator Coils To Freeze Over.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (hereafter “Samsung” or “Defendants”) in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (styled Jeff Weske, Jo Anna Frager and Darryl Myhre v. Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Civil Action Case No. 2:10-cv-04811-WJM -MF) alleging, among other things, that Samsung sold refrigerators containing a defect that causes the refrigerators’ coils to freeze over, resulting in the failure of the refrigerator to cool, which has caused consumers to suffer damages for lost groceries, spoilage and repairs, according to class action lawsuit news reports.

The Samsung refrigerator class action lawsuit complaint reportedly alleges that certain Samsung French door, side-by-side and bottom freezer refrigerators (model numbers RF266AASH, RS263BBWP, RB1955SH, RS2533SW, RS267LASH, RS267TDRS, RS2630WW) the refrigerators are designed and manufactured with heated coils that are intended to prevent excess frost from developing in the back of the machine, but instead of preventing frost, the coils allegedly allow frost and ice to build up in the refrigerators until the ice clogs and/or disables the machine’s fans, making it impossible for the fans to work to keep the machine cool.

The Samsung refrigerator coil class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of the following putative class members, unless otherwise excluded:

All persons or entities residing in the United States who own, or have owned, Samsung refrigerator models RF266AASH, RS263BBWP, RB1955SH, RS2533SW, RS267LASH, RS267TDRS, RS2630WW and/or any other Samsung refrigerator model containing a defect that causes the refrigerator’s coils to ice over and the refrigerator to stop cooling.

Firstly. never ever buy a Samsung refrigerator ! Tell your friends, relatives, everyone.
Our story- October 2006, needed a replacement for our 22 year old refrigerator.
Went to Lowes and got talked into buying the highest end Samsung based on how great it was. It is the Quatro- model RM 255LASH/XAA. Paid $2800.00 !!
For about 5 years it operated normally- kept things cold or frozen.
December 2011, making weird noise- Couldn’t figure it out, at first. Got online with Samsubg- they said they were very very sorry for my trouble – and I needed a service call.. I tried to ask them basic things – but they had absolutely no knowledge of their own product. Being holiday times and we had a an infant in the house, we got out all the coolers , bought ice and emptied the refrig.
Then started looking at it inside and doing web research- took the inside of the back panel on the refrig side out and saw that the evap fan was completely encased in ice and that was making the screeching noise. Thawed it out completely, but still would not cool in the refrg section. Wrote to Samsung explaining the problem asking for a fix.. They just said to set up a servcie call. Went online- found out that there are only TWO Samsang service centers in the entire state of WA- both quite far away. Called known local repair refrig comapnies – none would work on a Samsung refrig – they all said that they are junk and that working with Samsung for parts was a nightmare- Talked to at least 8 service guys and ALL said the same thing – saying it was impossible to make their customers happy trying to work on a Samsung refrig. Finally called a “Samsung” service center 50 miles away, which was a mom and pop outfit with 3 employees. They came out- saw that I had everything opened and apart and did ‘tests’ saying everything looked okay- and that the only thing they could think of was the main PCB ( computer board). I had already looked up this part and found I could buy it online for $57.00. I asked then how much for them to replace ? They said $350.00 !! I said you have to kidding and they said that that it what Samsung orders them to quote.
I told them that I could buy the PCB for $57 and that it only takes 5 mins to replace it- they said it would be better to do it myself and save the money.
So, okay, looked up part number again and sent Samsung a message asking them to please reconfirm the part number that I had looked up- They responded saying that to get that information I would need to buy the manual for $65.00 !!
Then I called Samsung and they said the same thing. It was infuriating ! I told them i just want to confirm the part number on their product. They said sorry for your trouble- buy the manual.
I then just bought the part, installed it and all seemed fine – until 5 months later- then same thing. Took it apart again – defrosted the evap fan that was completely iced up and it seemed to be okay- THAT lasted 1 month- now same thing.
Samsung should be taken to task for this defective product ! And they need to have service people that actually try to helpful and courteous.
They are a complete joke who should be made to correct these issues.
    A $3000 refrigerator that lasts for 5 years !!
Please include model number RM255LASH/XAA in the lawsuit.

What do we do in order to be a part of this law suit?
We purchased a Samsung refrigerator in 2010, and it is now not freezing, the sears tech came out and said it was sulfer damage, an act of nature!
      really?
and of course acts of nature are not covered under the warranty!!
Please let us know how to become a part of this
      Thank you
      D Houlahan

As a follow up– wanted to say that am pretty sure that the refrig will be headed to the dump – such a piece of junk. Samsung obviously has a defective design / product and refuses to own up to it. Next messages go to the state Attorney General and even to Lowes as they are just as guilty for pushing a defective product and doing nothing about it.
I own Samsung TVs and phones and other products — I WILL NEVER EVER BUY ANY SAMSUNG products again in my life and will do all possible to prevent anyone I know – or even don’t know ( through blogs, etc) from nevr buying a Samsung product.
How is it that foreign manufactures come here and inflict this on American consumers and nobody does ANYTHING about it.
Lowes’ told , sorry, out of warranty ( by 2 months) and basically said, tough luck pal.
Is it unreasonable to expect a $3000 refrigerator to last more than 5 years operating normally ?

As one posted said – Thank God they don’t make cars or anything that can kill people ! – well, maybe spoiled food can do that.
At the end of the day, this is the ‘new’ America. Buy cheap stuff, throw it away when it stops, buy another–
Hard to believe an American company cannot make a reliable device that keeps things cold or frozen for a reasonable price and then service it.
    God help us.

7 months ago (March 2012), we bought a 4 door stainless Samsung RF4287HARS/XAA. I came home the other evening and there was a #4 flashing on the display panel for the freezer. I opened the freezer and everything was room temperature. I threw out 4 trash bags full of roasts, sausages, homemade items i.e. pasta, stocks, meatballs, beef rolls etc. The freezer was freezing again by morning. I also have a problem with the freezer drawer being covered with condensation on the outside. Samsung tried to tell me that it is normal to be covered with condensation and promised to have someone call me the next day in regards to my request for reimbursement for lost food. Nobody ever called. I called today an spoke with Alicia in “executive customer relations”, she said that because the freezer is once again cold, there is no problem and because they didn’t have to send a repairman, they would not reimburse me. I told her that I was afraid to fill the freezer with food again and if it happened once, it would happen again as an appliance is not “self healing”.I told her I needed a repair and she refused. I don’t know where to turn for help.

Model #RSG257AA – It made a noise for months, then 08/17/12, the ice maker stop making ice and the refrigerator is not cooling. A temp of 34 is displayed, but Temp inside refrigerator will not go lower than 62 degrees. This temp has cause food spoilage, and has rendered me with no refrigerator in my home. I am required to pay an anomous amount of money ($1,300.00) in addition to what I paid for the refrigerator at purchase. They wanted me to pay $289.00 for a service agreement, which I was told would take care of repairs for one year. When they sent a (suppose repairman) person out, it was obvious that he knew nothing about the refrigerator, but he told me that the service warranty was only going to cover $500 of his cost to repair the refridge, and that “If I wanted it fixed, then I needed to pay him an additional $500 or I could fix it myself. I refused and he walked out of my house. He was so rude, I asked him for his card or work order, he refused, laughed in my face, and left my home. I called Sears and Samsung and neither was willing to suggest any thing else. What kind of game are these people playing. I requested a working refrigerator or my money back. They refused.

Please Help! Add model #RSG257AA to the class action law suit. You may contact me with any questions or if you need documents in regards to this claim.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing back from your office soon.

I have had the very same expereince with a Samsung side by side RS2530BBP model.
Samsung products are GARBAGE and their customer service department is a JOKE.
Why doesn’t anyone hold them accountable for screwing consumers out of money and providing defective design products and then basically do nothing about it when the products fail? This is not only a breakdown in product liability but also in consumer protection if our attorney general chooses to do nothing about it also.

  • Robert August 21, 2012, 5:43 am

I am having exactly the same problem with my Samsung RFG297, which is only 16 months old. The “coils…ice over and results in the failure of the Refrigerator to cool.” It has happend four times in four months – coils ice back over roughly every 30 days. Repairman came out and charged me $130 to tell me to defrost the unit? Well, its been 30 days and they iced over again. Repairman is coming back out and I have no confidence the problem will be fixed. So, I’m getting ready to buy another fridge. This is really crimal.

  • David Drown August 29, 2012, 7:51 am

I have a different model but the same problem

  • Tom Genetta August 30, 2012, 8:20 am

    Samsung French door/Bottom Freezer
    Model: RF266ABPN/XAA

Here is most of the letter sent to Samsung, demanding a refund for the above lemon refrigerator:

On Wednesday, June 27, 2012, a technician came to our home and repaired the above refrigerator (purchased fr Sears in 2009). He was gracious, quick, and knew exactly what he was doing, and the unit is now operating. Although I had every reason to believe that he was first rate at his job, he did have the advantage of this particular repair being a “do-over”: a technician from the same company had come to our house about 18 months ago to fix the very same issue.

As your records show, this problem—the failure of the condensing coil in the refrigerator to defrost, with the ice build-up preventing the air circulation fan from spinning (accompanied by DAYS of increasingly louder, muffled jack-hammer-level noise), resulting in the failure of the unit to cool and food inside spoiling—occurred once before, approximately 18 months after this unit was purchased from Sears. So, now twice—at about the same time interval—the same mechanical problem has occurred with this refrigerator: this is the definition of a manufacturing defect.

Both times this occurred we lost not only a considerable amount of food but the time and effort it took to prepare a number of costly meals, prepared ahead of time for guests, as well as leftovers. I am a very good cook, and we had stocked up a large number of relatively expensive condiments, sauces, and other ingredients that I use routinely. The second time this happened, we were about to host a couple visiting for the weekend and were forced to not only discard expensive ingredients and prepared dishes, but also to entertain them in an obnoxiously loud (CONSTRUCTION SITE LOUD) environment. Had we unplugged the unit, we would have lost expensive frozen food as well, much of which you would apparently not replace. I was told on the phone that Samsung will reimburse us for food lost but not condiment-related items—which in our case is quite considerable.

We appreciate that your company picked up the cost of these two repairs (though, with considerable reluctance the second time, despite the fact that it was THE SAME PROBLEM), but we are not at all convinced that the mechanical issue described above has been permanently fixed, and that this will not happen again. The problem with this particular unit is, very clearly, a manufacturing defect. This is a truly insufferable situation and we feel strongly that Samsung should recognize that they have, with this particular refrigerator unit, sold us a lemon, do the right thing, and reimburse us for its cost.

We have done this experiment twice, and can now state with certainty: the defrosting mechanism in this unit has a lifetime of about one-and-a-half years. Does Samsung actually want to pick up the cost of repairing this unit once every 18 months? This is an unpleasant situation for us and, we assume, an embarrassing situation for your company. In this case, Samsung should make a tangible demonstration of where they stand with the consumer.

I found this page after doing some research on my fridge RF266AEPN. Called the first lawyer’s office listed in the suit and they sent my over to Zimmerman Reed Law firm http://www.zimmreed.com/

Got on the list to be notified as the suit proceeds. Sounds like they’ll be expanding the suit covered models as many others besides the ones listed have this problem.

Status of the case is currently counter moved to proceed after Samsung moved to dismiss.

    Hopes this helps someone.

  • Cora September 7, 2012, 8:05 pm

SHAM on SAMSUNG! They cannot do a voluntary recall knowing all this? Worse yet, they act and say everything is fine. I think it is funny (not) that the person who was a certified Samsung dealer just stood in my kitchen and told me everything is fine. He could not have any idea at all of the problem without actually hearing it. The non certified found the problem in a flash. HM. Coincidence? I do not think so any more than the customer service rep. told me it was the ice maker, when we knew fully well, it was a FAN. It stopped when I opened the door. Are they paid to chase us away? I will NEVER buy another Samsung appliance. I also wonder if they get away with this robbery, will others file suit? This model (RF26VABWP) was actually recommended by Consumer Reports. Do they have multiple subscriptions to scew results? Where are the appliances that were built to LAST? Mine is not even 3 yrs old. It has given us problems from the start, and now is dead from the stress on the fan. ALL the same problems as above. They will NOT do anything if they are not made to. They should be forced to pull their products off the market until they FIX the problems!

  • donnie coleman September 14, 2012, 9:44 am

I have a samsung rs267lash side by side about five years old with the exact same cooling problem. Started hearing a loud noise 3 months ago and 2i days ago my fridge side started getting warmer. Well i took the panel off inside fridge section and i found that the coil is frozen solid. Unplugged and thawed and replugged it back up and the fan doesnt work and the display is blinking with a couple of slashe. No numbers or anything elese on the diplay lights up just blinking. I want no part of this lawsuit, however i feel that people need to be aware that samsung does have a defect in their refridgerators and i strongly recommend never to buy another one. Also its sad that when you walk into lowes 90 percent of thier fridges are smsung. What a joke. Will never buy another one.

  • Mike Dailey September 18, 2012, 10:41 am

I have a bottom freezer model about 6 years old and the coils have frozen over now for the second time. The first lasted for about 5 years before it stopped cooling, then I thawed it out, turned it back on and within 45 days, they were icing over again and could not keep the temp below 45. I have a Whirlpool in the garage that is 33 years old and is still working. I’m now replacing the Samsung and would like to hear more about the class action suit. No refrigerator should go out after 5 or 6 years.

    • Mike Dailey September 18, 2012, 10:55 am

My model number is RB 215 LABP

  • David Billingsley September 22, 2012, 1:54 am

the salesman at Lowes convinced me the Samsuck was better than the Whirlpool that I planned to purchase. At first glance, the Samsuck seemed to be a better appliance. It is not. Freezes often requiring throwing out food, thawing the unit, and buying new food. We turn our spoiled vegetables into compost. Too bad the Samsuck is not compostable.

  • John September 23, 2012, 11:16 pm

I have had the same problem for years!!!!! i’m so frustrated what has been the latest i would like to join in!

  • Craig September 30, 2012, 1:50 pm

Same problem, different model #RF267AERS, coils in refrigerator and freezer freezing over, no support from Samsung.
What is the latest on this lawsuit?

  • Ron October 6, 2012, 5:27 pm

Absolutely the same problem! Called Samsung hoping to get a sympathetic response and was told it was my problem. Refrigerator is less than two years old. Purchased it from Lowes. Model # RF263APN. Based on other comments it appears usesless to repair it since it will be a reoccuring problem. Pretty much reconciled to get a new refrigerator. Any recommendations on new models would be appreciated.

  • Matthew Trikones October 7, 2012, 10:55 pm

Same story. I have a Samsung RS2534ww that the freezer stops cooling. Unplug and unthaw the evaporator and it will work for several weeks, then the same thing. Defrost cycle not working. About 8 years old. My ken more is still working in the garage about 25 years old. I won’t buy another Samsung.

  • Morgan October 16, 2012, 12:59 am

My girlfriend and myself went to Sears and bought a wonderful looking Samsung RS263TD just to be fooled into believing Samsung makes a high quality product! I TOO HAVE A FRIDGE THAT COST OVER $1300 AND WON’T LAST FOR OVER 1 YEAR! YOU GOT TO BE KIDDING SAMSUNG! FOOD DOESN’T STAY COLD ON THE FRIDGE SIDE! I guess we all deserve this for not buying american. Samsung… STICK TO TV’S AND LEAVE THE REFRIGERATOR BUSINESS TO PROFESSIONALS!!!

    • ryan kaffer August 12, 2013, 1:07 pm

I have a samsung rs265labp with the exact same problem. I had to fight with a representitive in order for them to even fix the problem under the 5 year warranty, then had to fight the local repairman that represented samsung over the labor charges. Low and behold just at two years later having the exact same problems. Samsung told me they would set up and authorized service repair at my expense and, with no other choice, i agreed. I was told i would be contacted by the repair facility within 24-48 hrs. that was nore than 2 weeks ago without a phone call. How do i get involved on this lawsuit? I am sick about this with having a family of four and no refriderator $1500 later.

  • Karen October 18, 2012, 2:04 pm

How do I get in on this?

  • Marie October 21, 2012, 9:22 pm

My refrigerator model RF266AASH stopped working after 2 years. The freezer slowly stopped working then the refrigerator. Had a difficult time finding someone who would work on the refrigerator – Samsung was not helpful.

Samsung replaced a crack in a line from a sealed part; however, one year later and we still are having the same problem— I’m demanding Lowe’s takes this piece of crap back! I know it’s useless trying to deal with Samsung.

  • FME October 25, 2012, 9:00 pm

I bought my SAMSUNG refrigerator model-RS2545SH in Costco at Senter Rd.San Jose,Ca. last Jan.2,06 for $1190.00 after five years the problem came up,it stop cooling and fan start to make noise. I read the manual and follow the steps to set back the original temperature but it won’t work anymore. I went to Costco and told them that they sold me a defective fridge and told me they cannot take it back. I question the Costco asst.manager name Fernando about their a policy 100% satisfaction guaranteed. He laughed at me and said its only a marketing strategy. I was stunt and speechless. Besides he said if you returns many stuff in your account we will considering any returns anymore. How about if those item i bought are really defective. Last time i bought 46″ Sony LCD HD-TV and after three years the LCD screen turning psychedelic colors luckily there was a recall and Sony change the screen with a new one and extend the warranty. I am now closing our five accounts in Costco after this incident of defective Samsung RS2545SH that they did not call a recall.

  • Barbara Edens October 27, 2012, 5:10 pm

RS253BAWW same issue, coils frozen on fridge side, defrost and works fine til they freeze up again.

Display reads 34 and thermometer shows 50 +.

How do we get restitution for our defective Samsung Defectorator?

  • M.J.Segeth-Grodkiewicz October 31, 2012, 3:30 pm

    We purchased a Samsung RF4287HARS/XAA on 4-11-2011.
Since the purchase… the bottom freezer drawer lost a bearing 8-5-2011, of which we called (while it was still under Warranty) –to ensure we are on file. A tech was sent out (info can be provided if necessary to vouch of their findings) Our Tech says these bearings do fall out on occasion, and that they are there to help the drawers slide in/out. Our Tech Realigned the drawers, and seems to be working fine although not sure the bearings were from the drawers and no guarantee that this dislodged bearing will not affect other things in the fridge.

Then on 10-20-2012, our Refrigerator starting humming ,on occasion, louder than usual, and after opening and closing the Bottom Freezer Drawer, the humming would cease for a short while. Spoke with Samsung, who furnished a Ticket, so Our Local Technician could come out again. He indicated that the Fan behind the plastic panel (that is behind the Freezer Drawer) is hitting ice that has formed. He detected on our model, that the “drainage hole” has a small metal ROD that is supposed to remain (warm, hot) from the heating coils. THis Rod, when heated properly, deters the drainage hole from freezing up, so that any water/condensation can drain into this drainage hole.
The first sign that the drainage hole is becoming clogged/or is clogged is when the water that is trying to drain into the hole, overflows into the BOTTOM of the fridge (which is below the Freezer drawer, which is what had already occured in our case) .
Apparantly the heating coils/heater is/are not close enough to this metal Rod, to keep the metal Rod Warm/Hot so that the metal rod that is supposed to extend into/near the drainage hole, can keep the drainage hole from freezing up. Adjustments would need to be made, to keep the drain hole from freezing up. The Tech indicated, that if the drain hole, continues to get plugged up, ICE will form on all parts again, causing numerous malfunctions over time. Thus the little drain hole is also something NOT to ignore.)
We have only had this Unit for 16months, and are worried this will become a money pit. We also do not get the most (EFFECTIVE) service from 888-751-4087(Alicia seems to be the usual Rep that answers) At times, if you know, how/what to ask, she will try to assist, and will even ask you to do certain things over the phone, yet we indicated that we do not feel comfortable tearing the fridge apart, as this could void any warranties, or cause other problems if we do not know what we are doing, … and why would SAMSUNG not pay for a SERVICE call if these Malfunctions are common? We have learned we are only under a 1-year warranty with a 5year warranty on parts/labor. The tough part is, to get Samsung to acknowledge THEIR Craftmanship is what is causing many of the Malfunctions, and they do not pay for Technicians to Engineer Solutions. Samsung, therefore, is not very forgiving in reimbursing for malfunctions, defective, or faulty workmanship.
Maybe if they hear of more consumers’ concerns, they will offset these costs for some of us, while they are trying to improve their products. One suggestion, as we were watching the Technician work, –if Samsung could (also) steer clear from so many PLASTIC parts , and put more QUALITY parts into their Refrigerator …this could prove more promising. IF our PLASTIC (fans) would have frozen over, they would have broken a lot sooner, than a METAL one. If you have coils that are to heat things, and you have plastic holding some of the heavier parts together, or have plastic fans hitting against ice… plastic will break so much easier under certain freezing/heating elements. That is like using a U-shaped soft rubber hose for a Clamp. Some things just don’t work for Heavily-Used Products

  • Lori O. November 4, 2012, 3:18 pm

My husband and I purchased a samsung model RS261 at sears in 2010 and noticed this past July it started to make a strange noise and relized it was the fan in the back of the freezer hitting ice as well as the food was defrosted inside the refrigerator. I had to shut the freezer down and let it deforst; this has happened twice, it has been an on going issue and froze up again today. I went on line to see if anyone else has had this problem and and how to fix it and I now see it is actually a manufacture defect; what can be done.

  • Shawn Queen November 4, 2012, 6:43 pm

Our Samsung refridgerator coil was replaced 1 year after we purchased from Lowes. We had a warranty and called to set up a service call, waited almost a week. Paid him extra to fix the icemaker being it wasn’t covered under the warranty, that was Christmas last year, had to rent a fridge on Christmas Eve for Christmas dinner.Wwoke up this morning, everything in the freezer was room temperature. Roughly $300 worth of groceries spoiled
Times are tight, I have to make every penny count, I can’t see the sense in buying a new appliance and having to replace it or pay a high repair bill to have it fixed. Samsung owes me compensation!

  • Shawn Queen November 4, 2012, 6:45 pm

My Samsung refridgerator is only 2 years old by the way

  • carol November 9, 2012, 11:43 am

Same problem as everyone else #RF266AAWP. We paid for repairs so far fridge works o.k. but when it defrosts water puddles in bottom of fridge and runs down the front of freezer onto the floor. Very unnerving never know when everything will stop. Bought at Lowes but they said our problem, we just put up with it. Can’t afford to replace it. I also will never buy another samsung product nor will I ever buy another appliance or carpet ( but thats a different story ) from Lowes. I would like to be part of class action as well.

  • angel November 10, 2012, 8:31 am

WE have the RS2545SH and it is doing the same thing as everyone else….coils all frozen so much the door wont close unless the drawers are removed. Frustrated with throwing away all our food.

  • Sam November 11, 2012, 9:59 am

Count me in.. This the third fridge with the same problem.

  • Eric November 13, 2012, 2:11 pm

I have a 5 year old samsung side by side refrigerator
    model # – RS267LBBP that has a similar problem.The refrigerator coils
freeze up and block the drain into the evaporation pan with ice and water runs out the front of the frig and onto my laminate floor.I’ve dethawed the frig twice per samsung and it fixes it for alittle while.Whats going on with this lawsuit and is this model number part of the lawsuit?

  • Fran November 13, 2012, 4:50 pm

I have a 3 year old Samsung 25.9 cu ft French Door ModelRF26XAERS bought a Lowes (great price…yeah) The inside of the refrigerator keeps freezing up and then the motor makes a horrible grinding sound. We have to empty the fridge for hours to thaw it only for it to happen within months again. We’ve dropped the temp both in the freezer and the fridge, which helps for a while. Now there is ice build up under the vegetable and fruit crisper drawers. To make things even worse the water dispensers not working. Tired of paying for repairs so we get water from sink and keep thawing. This happen after we had it a year!
Just wondering if there have been complaints with this model too?

    • Kristine February 2, 2013, 9:33 am

I have the RF26XAERS also, we’ve had it for 2.5 years and have already paid $500 to replace the ice maker and now am getting the loud noise from the frozen fan. Attempting to raise the temp to remove the ice.

    • Kenneth J. Schmidt February 15, 2013, 9:11 pm

Also had the 26XAERS model bought in Jan. 2012. It failed in less than a year with coils icing over. Over a 2 1/2 year period we had the same problem 4 times. The first 3 times they replaced evap. assembly and drier and this seemed to help the problem. However the screen on the front of the fridge always read -2 + 38 degrees. Food did not last. The fourth time the tech said Samsung had a new fix. They added a small aluminum clip to the base of the condenser that extended down into the drain hole. Worked for about 4 months. So now I know it was never really fixed for long. Went thru all the coolers and ice and more ice and throwing away of the food. We are all busy people trying to get by believing in what we buy. Don’t. On the surface Samsung customer service appears to care about you. They don’t. I have pages of documentation with times, dates, invoices, copies of certified letters, bogus phone numbers given to me by them. In every step of customer service they try to prolong the process in a carefully controlled web of lies and deceit. They thank you for being patient, put you on hold, ask a question, put you on hold etc. I started at the bottom of customer service and worked my way up to executive customer relations and finally after almost 3 years made it to the “Office of the President”. They finally agreed to pay me $1663.87 on Dec. 7 2012. This was a friday. Lisa gave me till wed. of next week to decide on that pro rated payment or try another repair. I called on tues. and was told she was out of the office for a week. I left a message saying I would accept that amount. Called again the next day and left 2 other similar messages to her and another rep. My fridge is at 50 degrees now but screen says -2 and 38. The Office of the Pres. response was due to a certified letter I sent 5-6 weeks earlier. I waited until Jan. 2013 for the check leaving more messages in between. No response. Lowes has a great deal on a new model Samsung and mine is shot. Armed with 1663.87 I buy a new fridge. The first thing I notice the next morning is how cold the food is. Haven’t experienced this for a while. I finally contact Samsung by accident due to my arthritis. You can call and call the “higher up” numbers they give you but no one will ever answer. I’ve tried every hour of the day,all day a month at a time. One extension from the Off. of the Pres. spoke only in spanish and then hung up. This accident I mentioned was to add a 0. Instead of 10032 I accid. typed 100032 and by god someone answered. She told me I would get an email in 3-5 business days after putting me thru all the on hold and patience crap. 5 days and no response. I sent an email asking why no response.(yes, they gave me a legit email). The response the next day was troubling though. The refund was now down to 1601.03 They said I had to show them a picture of the cut power cord of the old unit and provide the actual paper serial # off the unit. Lowes picked up the old unit when they brought the new unit. I contacted Samsung again-same thank you for your patience hold and wait crap. Finally they say maybe you can contact Lowes and find the unit because getting that serial # and showing that the cord is cut is the only way you will get your money. I have everything documented- someone please help me. Attorney General said it must be in warranty period for them to help. So what next, small claims court or bust.

how do i get help or get in on this class action suit? My refrig is 18 months old. From day one it has made every sound known to man. Within the 1st year I had to have the handles replaced because the white paint was coming off. The freezer is so cold that it is impossible to get ice cream out of the container. I have it bumped up to 4 above zero with no change. Twice a technician came to replace a circuit board to help with the freezer. Both times he replaced the board in the back. When he plugged it in, sparks flew out of the outlet and all my circuit breakers blew. He had to put back in the original part. 3 days later my warranty was up and I was told too bad, even though I had addressed the issue well within the warranty time. It makes me think that it cannot be fixed because of the blown circuit board. It also scares me not knowing if it will short out and cause a fire. Now I have water in the vegi bin and frozen ice buildup under it. I am at a loss. when I called about it I’m told it will cost me to have it repaired. first of all, why should i have to pay extra to cover a warranty on something that should work after the one year warranty is up? it’s like saying this is a piece of crap and will not work for you so pay us extra to keep it running. I am at a loss. If someone knows of a solution for this problem, please let me know. I think this unit should be replace or I should be given a refund.

My wife and I have the same problem with our Samsung refrigerator. We bought it from Lowe’s in June of 08, and have had the problem ever since we owned it. We have to empty the refrigerator every few weeks and put a hair drying in it to defrost the parts that are all frozen up, before the food spoils. This has been a pain for years. I would like to know how we can unload this this (get rid of it) and have a normal fridge. Our model is RF265ABWP

  • Michael Molitor November 21, 2012, 7:08 pm

I have model RF267 ABRS. French door with lower pull out freezer. Had it for about 5 years and for the last year I have been experiencing the coils in the fridge portion freezing over, water puddling in the basin below the pull out drawer and draining on my hard wood floors. I have to empty the entire fridge, pull the back panel to defrost the coils. This last less than a week. I though it was due to the door being left ajar or having the fridge too full. after reading the above stories it appears that Samsung has some serious quality issues. I was thinking about replacing the cooling fan and or replacing the defrost heater coil. Now I’m not sure that will do any good. Looks like I have $1,200.00 boat anchor! How can I get in on the class action suit?

After reading many of these posts and many of the Samsung class action TV claim posts plus what the last appliance tech told me we all apparently have a capacitor problem in the motherboard. All the tv’s have that problem (cheap capacitors), none of the evap. or drier or fan replacements help with all the different models of refrigerator but the motherboard has never been mentioned. Perhaps it has but I haven’t read that problem. Maybe we should all look at that. To late for me now but ask your tech and tell him or her what you know about the capacitors

My 2008 Samsung refrigerator is doing the same thing. coil freezes up causing thawing of frozen food, no ice production and refrigerator side to warm to 60+ degrees renderring everything useless ready to be thrown away. the model is rs2530bbp and serial 023242bq600972 z. this is a brand new fridge i bought when i moved in my new house october 31 2008. first freeze up didn’t happen for a year then more frequently. now i defrost every 6 weeks to keep it working. what a pieces of shi*. there is definately a connection and should result in samsung making these appliances right. What a shame that samsung is not taking responsibility and creating positive customer relations but rather digging their own grave. I will not reccoment samsung apliances to anyone. please include me in the class action lawsuit.

We bought a refrigerator in April 2012 and it stopped working in October 2012. We used the warranty service and Samsung Tech (NISI) telling us is Defect Air Compressor and need to get replace. But NISI have to order the replacement Air Compressor it take about a week. We can’t wait that long so we call BestBuy and they get the replacement unit replace within 3 day. We already lost $800 worth of food. In December 1, 2012 we noticed the refrigerator running with loud noise and water leaking out from the ice-maker tray and freezer display 80 degree, and cooler display 38 degree. So we call Samsung request for service since we still under warranty, it take 2 day for NISI called and we request for afternoon appointment; they flat-out told us that they don’t do afternoon service and schedule us for Dec 8th which a week without refrigerator and all we lost all the food for second time since we buy the Samsung Refrigerator. Samsung stated they have no control over the service company and that is garbage. Any company you use is a reflection on you! So incredibly disappointed and feel like we’ve been taken advantage of with this warranty service. We want Samsung to replace our Refrigerator.
Peoples beware! Don’t buy any Samsung Products!

I had the same exact model. Same problems. “repaired” 3 times since 2010 when I bought it but still broke. After 3 repairs they finally offered me a pro rated reimbursement @ 1663.87 for a 2500.00 unit. I agreed and while waiting for the check Lowes had a great deal on a new fridge and I bought one. Three weeks later I’m still waiting for a check and have spent countless hours on the phone. I finally reach someone by inadvertently adding a 0 to an ext. # I was dialing. Long story short they tell me I must supply a picture of the power cord being cut and supply the actual paper serial# off the unit. I don’t have the unit-they say tough luck. No reimbursement. But I’m still trying…

my name is Chris, with this being said lowe’s and samsung are pricks!!!!! i have spent thousands of dollars at lowe’s on really nice appliances. so called nice anyway. first episode with lowe’s was my samsung dishwasher, they had it serviced 18 times before they would give me my money back. seriously what about the lemon law after 3 visits for the same thing jack ass! second was my side by side fridge, samsung of course. model #rs267lbgsh 5 years old, cleaned every year blah, blah, blah. just recently moved and misplaced the 5 year warranty and receipt which has never been a big deal because they attach everything to your phone# but now that i mention that it is a samsung fridge they say they can’t help me until i find receipt what a crock of shit!!!! would like to slap the shit out of somebody. that piece of shit fridge with 5 year warranty cost almost $2,700 dollars. I will never ever buy another appliance from lowe’s or a samsung model again!

  • Holly December 10, 2012, 11:06 am

I am having the same problem with my samsung side by side, this is my second samsung, last one was the same fridge, and last one did the same thing, the whole inside of the back of fridge turned to solid ice, i noticed the fridge was not perfectly level, and thawed it out and it worked perfect for 4 more yrs, ex husband has it now still, so I bought this one, and its doing the same thing, and I noticed it is also not perfectly level, so I leveled it and hoping fo the best. I hope this helps someone else with there problem.

  • Paul December 10, 2012, 5:06 pm

I have the Canadian version of the bottom mount freezer (RF197ACRS). Exact same problem. Water pools on bottom of the fridge portion (and in crisper) and makes funny noises. Have paid Sears for $300 bucks in repairs. They’ve changed a small piece of metal (into the rain tube as another post mentions). Hopefully this will work.
If a Canadian can join the class action then count me in!

  • Jennifer December 20, 2012, 3:51 pm

It is ashamed to spend hard earned money for what I thought was gonna be a nice side by side refridge by Samsung especially in this economy. I have had the same problems with refridge freezing up . Last night it stopped working completely! My refridge is 2 years old.I had to shop at eight o’clock in the evening to replace last night. GEEZ Merry Christmas huh?How many people does it take before Samsung has a recall?

  • J. M. Thomas December 26, 2012, 8:32 pm

I have a RS275ACBP purchased from Sears within the last 3 years. Our model began making very loud noises in June 2012 and would cycle through days (and nights) of very loud noises and then nothing. At that time, no other problem seemed apparent. Two weeks ago, the refridgerator began making the noises again, but much more loudly than before, so loud that we could hear it day and night. The readout of the temperature would read appropriately at -4 for the freezer and would read at 34 degrees in the refridgerator when the milk was turning sour and chunky and the perishable condiments were going bad. I set a handheld thermometer in it and it read at 57 degrees. We had to completely unplug the unit on Christmas day because the temerature was now at 60 degrees in the fridge and the freezer was still -4, but the noise was so loud and we were nervous for the possibility of an electrical fire with the unit trying to bring down the fridge temperature.
Please let me know how we can become part of the class action lawsuit as it is criminal to have such significant problems with a practically new refridgerator (this is not mentioning the cosmetic problems with all the shelving in the refridgerator and freezer unit which just snaps off easily, leaving ragged, sharp edges.)

Out of the tens of thousands of units sold each year, these issues appear to be rare and one off cases. I wouldn’t expect much in the class action lawsuit, especially if it is a natural issue causing the defect. Buy a good warranty, much like an insurance policy and hope that your product isn’t the 1 in 5000 that breaks down. Best of luck in 2013!

  • Martha January 2, 2013, 1:29 pm

I have a Samsung RS2530BBP, same issues. My fridge started out making construction site noises, then it froze up. I had a repair man come out he defrosted the fridge, less than 6 months later same issue but this time without the noise due to the fact that the fan blew out from trying to cool thru all the ice buildup. Here we are again, six months and I not only had ice build up, paid another repair man on top of all the food lost, but I am only a week into the new repair and the fridge has stopped working properly again, the freezer is acting as the fridge and the fridge is barely working at all. I paid a huge amount of money for this appliance so that it would last. I did not expect to pay repair bill after repair bill. I am a single parent with four children, living without a refrigerator. I really cannot afford this, something has to be done!

  • Kristin DuBois January 9, 2013, 12:38 pm

We purchased Samsung RFG298AARS/XAA rerigerator back in 2010 and now frost and ice are building up in the refrigerators, ice is clogging/disabling the machine’s fans.

I talke to Samsung customer service and they transferred me over to Samsung Executive Customer Service with no executive power.

They don’t see these defects in their system so looks like their system is old and hasn’t been updated since 2006.
Shame on Samsung for putting inferior parts, Samsung authorized technicians had the following to say
    1. This model is known to have this issue
    2. Samsung knows about the issue and they are putting the inferior parts so that their markup is really high like 1000%
    3. I will no longer buy Samsung Andorid or even Samsung tablet phone, goodbye samsung from sucking up billions of dollars in profit from us

  • Chris January 13, 2013, 12:28 am

I bought the Samsung Frigerator with the pull out Freezer Drawer,It was bought brand new a little over a year after we owned it it began making a loud buzzing noise from the refrigerator area.I contacted Samsung and they told me my warranty had just expired so I would like someone to come and look at it they would be happy to charge me.So because of a lack of customer service I have figured out how to fix it my self but now the compressor is going out.Lets take them to court for taking our money

  • Chris Snyder January 13, 2013, 9:47 am

We have the same problem. Having new fridge delivered today.

  • John Salazar January 13, 2013, 2:29 pm

I’m a bit bothered by Dustin Taylor’s comment that this is a limited problem. Google “samsung fridge fan noise” and you will quickly discover its NOT small issue affecting very few people. Secondly this is not only poor of Samsung to not address the issue but a TOTAL design failure on their part.

Having the defroster die on a fridge is actually quite common. BUT having to remove the coolant from the fridge, cut the copper tubing and have to replace and re-solder AND refill the coolant is just irresponsible design.

I can’t stress enough don’t post your problem here CONTACT THE ATTORNEY!

Samsung is trying VERY hard to not make this go to court. We need EVERYONE who has these problems with their fridge to get involved.

  • Janeth Rogers January 16, 2013, 11:39 am

RF4287HARS/XAA bought June 2011. Notices water pooling on the floor and bottom freezer door was no longer sealing. Pulled out the door and there was a thick layer of ice at the bottom of the freezer preventing the door from shutting. Broke the ice apart and the door was able to be shut again. This incident happened again a few months later and after the 3rd occurrence called Samsung. They had a local service business call me. Since it is no longer under warranty (older that 1 yr) they said I need to pay $45 for the serviceman to come out. States they will diagnose and give me an estimate. I said that for a $3000 fridge, it’s ridiculous to have to pay for something that should last 10-20 yrs. She laughed halfheartedly and said “they don’t make them like that anymore.” WTF?!?!? The service person will come out here tomorrow to “diagnose.” I’ll ask that they bill Samsung for the repair. – Janeth

    • Debbie Davis February 25, 2013, 3:58 pm

I have the exact problem happening with my RF4287HARS (purchased July 2011). I have been breaking off the ice from below the freezer every few weeks. I think perhaps the drainage hole is clogged, but I don’t know where it is located and how hard it is to get to. I have not yet called out a repair person. That will be soon. What happened with yours? Did the repair person bill Samsung or did you end up paying for it?

  • Kurt Battig January 18, 2013, 9:56 am

Model#RF217ACBP – I purchased the refrigerator 3 years ago. The coils started freezing up shortly after the warranty expired. Had repairman replace some sensor to melt ice off of coils. This didn’t work, so he replaced the sensor again. Didn’t work. Now he wants to replace the plastic cover over the coils because there is some chemical coating that might be causing this. I am $200+ into repairs. I really do not want to replace the cover for another $100+ and find that it is still freezing up. Called Samsung and they are not very helpful. Not sure if this model is in the class action suit. If not, it should be.

    Re: Public Notice
    Samsung Refrigerator RS267/RS269

    To whom it may concern:

If you look on Google under Samsung with the refrigerator RS267/RS269 you will find many other across the US with the same Problem I have and I am asure there many more.

I purchased a Samsung refrigerator in year 2006. I would assume it would last for some time. Yes we understand the limited warranty and parts but, one would expect a refrigerator would last for a decent amount of time.

I have many refrigerators in my life time but none can compare to this of crap. The water only runs when it feels like it, the vegetable draw had to be removed because of the ice buildup. The buildup of ice in the back of the chill draw was so much it broke loose and pushed the draw out. Now the Chill draw is hanging for dear life. Anything below the Chill draw will freeze. We also keep a towel on the floor for leaks when water tried to run.

I found many others out there check on the web. There is other like myself drawn in by this company and I want them to be aware of Samsung Products.

I tried to call service in area but no one wants to deal with Samsung products, they said parts are hard to fine. There may not be anything we can do at this time but I had to let someone know about this product. It is very stressful to retire and find out what you put your money into does not work. It is not ease to spend $1700 on something worthless. We hope other customers don’t have to relate to this problem.

    Sincerely,

    Mr. & Mrs. Hopkins

    • Irene Nak March 14, 2013, 11:19 am

Agree with all of you…it is a Samsung defect that they can’t bother to fix..look online about their CEO to know what he cares about.
My RS267 last six years, after extended warranty ran out and spent $$hundreds trying to fix the unfixable, still looks new, but now belongs at the overfilled dump.

I purchased a Samsung side by side model RS2544SL from COSTCO after one year I came home and the # 4 was blinking on the freezer, I called Samsung, but could not get a positive response from them.
I lost all my food on the fridge. Unplugged it overnight then powered it up the next day, it worked for a while, then tada! It happened again. Finally I decided to go back to Costco, they basically told me that I got my monies worth n should not expect it to last forever, my previous fridge lasted over 25 years n I only changed it because I wanted to buy one that was more efficient…. LoL 🙂 what a joke! Obviously Samsung has no solution for their lousy fridges, and I am very disappointed at Costco for selling such a bad product n funny how they make their statement of 100% satisfaction; COSTCO SHAME ON YOU.

  • Theresa Corpus February 5, 2013, 9:04 am

My refrigerator isn’t on this list but is doing the same thing. RF26VABWP. It’s less than two years old and I have yet to find a repairman in my area.

  • Janice February 8, 2013, 2:54 pm

I have a Samsung RF217. After checking the internet, I can see I have a typical problem. The vegetable bins fill with water and under the the vegetable bins is a sheet of ice. At first I thought I had my freezer too low (I have it at -2, which is the recommended setting). I raised it to zero and the problem persists. Of course, my waranty ran out on July 31, 2012 even though I purchased it in August of 2011. ( I don’t get the couple of week decrease in waranty either, which is a moot point.) In any case, based on comments I see I will have to spend hundreds of dollars with no real fix. I wonder if anyone is starting another class action or if other models can be added. And, I went to their chat site and was sent to a troubleshooting page that recommended that you check to see if you spilled anything in the refrigerator! Are they serious?

Same Samsung, model RF266ABPN leaking out from bottom front by casters/feet. I assume the same problem as the long list above. What can i do? Whats happening with this lawsuit. My Samsung is only 4 years old.

  • Sharon Strobel February 16, 2013, 6:40 pm

I can save my time and yours by just putting Ditto. Samsung refridger, water freezes under drawers, call repair, they came twice (A&E-Sears). Been here twice at my expense, told last time this is a defect and there is no permanent fix, and since I live in a rural area it is difficult to get a repairman to come out, especially since the problem is Always the same. This is the first time I could purchase a very nice looking refrigerator and that is exactly what I have, only glitch is it does Not Work! Looking at all the previous messages I cannot imagine there cannot be something done to make Samsung take responsible to their customers. These ate not nickel and dime items. Please someone help!

  • Roger Breed February 17, 2013, 4:06 pm

I have the Samsung RF267AEBP manufactured August 2010 purchased from Sears. The unit freezes and defrost cycle and heating coils have map functioned. When the ice builds up over time it locks up the fan motor from the glacier of ice. Like others on this post I have to force the RF267 AEBP into a manual defrost which when the ice melts it fills the space under the Deli/Crisper drawer with water. The first time this happened we did not realize that the ice could not drain normally and after turning the unit back on the water under the Deli/Crisper drawer froze into a solid two foot sheet of ice! We could not get the drawer opened without pulling very hard on it and that brought the entire sheet of ice out and onto the kitchen floor…creating one bug hugh mess! Now the Ice Maker is making loud clicking and banging sounds and the ice maker is malfunctioning too with inconsistent delivery of ice cubes and freezes up. We have regularly replaced the filter (@ $30+ ea.) that does basically nothing but filter water for the ice maker and the water dispenser. This has ben the most frustrating experience I have ever had with a major appliance in over 30+ years of home ownership. Samsung should be made to offer full refunds for these terrible products and/or provide a totally brand new replacement of equal value regardless of the customer’s choice.

I own a side by side samsung refrigerator which I purchased from Bestbuy on August 16, 2006 for $1500. I spent an additional $1,000 on repairs that never did fix the coil freezing problem. I own model # RS253BASB and would like to be added to the Samsung class action lawsuit.

I have the same issue with our Samsung RS263BBWP . I called Samsung for service and they told me it will be 2 weeks and $100 service call and they will diagnose the problem. They said they will give me the estimate then but they had to wait 2 weeks for the repair kit but could not give me the estimate. But knew automatically that it needed a repair kit. Not willing to wait I called another repair man that could come out next day and he defrosted it and ordered a fan motor since the ice burned out the fan motor. He has been out 4 times to defrost the ice. It takes about a week to build up. I would like to be added to the lawsuit list

  • Deb King February 24, 2013, 10:14 pm

I have a RS2530BWP model. Have had it for 7 years. Our repairman complains every time we’ve had him out about it being a piece of junk. The icemaker doen’t fill completely with water and I’ve actually burned my hand when accidently placing it on divider between fridge and freezer. I’m afraid it will catch fire someday but can’t afford a new one.

Same Issues with my Samsung RS2533SW – freezes up and quits cooling until our repair man tears it apart and complains about having to defrost it every few of months. Now not lasting even that long. I’m tired of putting my hard earned $ into this product any more. Never had so much trouble with a fridge before. Wanted to blame Sears for selling me junk— until i stumbled onto this site. Please more info on how to join and if it is still active for settlement.

I own a Samsung side by side model #RS263TDRS. We purchased this in February of 2011 and now the fresh food side is not maintaining cold temps. Just had a sears tech come out and confirm that yes the evaporator coils are frozen over and the PCB needs replaced. $450 to fix an $1100 fridge. Especially after seeing the success rate of this fix it seems pointless. Called samsung and they deny any knowledge of this being an issue and say there is nothing they can do. Will never buy another samsung appliance.

Just contacted one of the lawyers via email. Waiting for a response and hopefully some good news.

Contact the lawyer as well so we can help bring this to an end http://www.zimmreed.com/Samsung-Refrigerator/20856/

YES I WOULD LIKE TO BE A PART OF THE CLSS ACTION SUIT.

    • Irene Nak March 14, 2013, 11:25 am

most of the repair techs know the problem if they know Samsungs. It is NOT hard to order the parts since I have done it and they’ve arrived in a week. Replaced the fans, the defrost sensor and computer board..to no avail…It is still icing up.

We have an RF267AERS we bought in 2010. We didn’t have the problem with food not staying cold but water under the Cool Select Pantry door. The water built up until it trickled out and ruined our floor. Not to mention our ice maker barely works anymore. Huge mistake buying this fridge.

Bought a Sumsung RF26XAERS/XAA “French Door style” fridge from Lowes in 2010. Ice maker stopped making ice mid-2012. Fridge stopped cooling even though temp reading was 38′. I had Brandsmart service come out 6 times – YES-SIX times and replaced several items like the cooling fan (TWICE) , circuit board, ice-maker etc. They did the “re-call” update by inserting a larger metal heat-transfer blade into the drainage hole. Now the display blinks “88-88”. Can’t change nothing. The fridge is cooling though. I gave up on this POS. I wish I still had the 20-year old kenmore that operated great before this Sumsung paperweight I have now. I wonder if the current Samsung models are upgraded?

  • Janice DeRobbio March 18, 2013, 8:49 am

My Samsung refrigerator model #RM255Lash, is also a pice of junk. It started with the ice maker stopping after about 2 years, next it went to the top freezer not freezing (it has four doors) I did not call Samsung until the refrigerator side start making a loud noise. When I did call them the gave me the name of a repair service, who came out and said that no problem it would be fixed because it was part of the sealed system that had a 5 year warranty. After 3 months of going back and forth with Samsung, first them saying the would cover it then rejecting service the send me an email saying my service ticket had been closed. Reading all the above comments it seems to be a common problem among Samsung refrigerators and I will never buy one or recommend to anyone to buy. Their products and customer service is horrible!

Stumbled on your website while searching for clues to the puddle/iceberg that keeps forming under the deli drawer of my RF268. Guess there isn’t a solution. We purchased first one in ’10 and it froze everything in the refrigerator regardless of temp setting – Lowe’s replaced with no questions since we had only had it a month. Didn’t notice anything wrong until last several months when water would pool at the back of the deli drawer. Removing drawer reveals either sheet of ice or puddle of water. My old GE Profile side by side never gave me any trouble and is still chugging along in our garage…sigh. Surely this is part of Obama’s money sucking schemes – creating jobs for refrigerator repairmen and lawyers…

wow, so my fridge went out this weekend while i was gone. i lost every thing in fridge and freezer and i had just been shopping 🙁 . so i called lowes because i bought a warranty on a $1700. unit. apparently i am now out of warranty. glad i spent the money 1) at lowes 2) to have to talk to the automated system and not a person, 3) to look up samsung and you get all sorts of stuff on their new waste the galexy phone to be reconfirmed i am out of warranty and it “sounds like ” you need a compressor. 1700. fridge, 90 warranty and a new compressor… hum throw it a way after reading some of this stuff. it is only going to take 3 to 5 days for some one to call me back to see about an appointment for some one to come. so i asked what do i keep food in til then ” a cooler” hello so every day i am to drag ice home for my cooler and i am not camping…really? my P O S!!! fridge number is RF265AASH . this is just the beginning. the guy had me test it out looking for code to see if the fridge would say what was wrong with it. i had it unplugged. why would i have electricity to it for an undetermined amount of days. i would think it would cause further damage? or heat my kitchen like we learned in physics…… disgusted and thinking of baning all samsug products due to lack of heart, ethics, i feel robbed of my hard earned money, and not cared about as a consumer. oh and i asked if 1700. for 5 years worth of chilled food was not a bit to much to spend… “sorry” he says. really?????? and thank you to the person who posted law suit info. bless you and i did add my info and fridge to the list. disgusted consumer 🙁

I have just learned today what a piece of junk My samsung side by side is. In their infinite wisdom the so called engineers have incorporated the defrost unit inside the evaporator coil requiring the entire evaporator to be replaced for what should be a very simple fix. In this age of concern over refrigerants and the atmosphere how can anyone build anything that requires disrupting the integrity of the system to repair a simple problem. All other manufacturers use an external defrost coil and it just makes sense to not use anything requiring draining the refrigerant and soldering in a new coil just for a defrost problem . I would like to be included in any class action lawsuit concerning these poorly engineered units

  • Teresa March 21, 2013, 11:28 am

We purchased RS2630SH/XAA having problems with coils freezing up. We have had to replace fan motor. Now ice maker water line is freezing up. We can defrost refrigerator it makes one tray of ice and freezes up. We have replaced ice maker and water valve is next. This is not a product I would recommend. I plan not to purchase probably no samsung products. Spent to much money on this side by side for this trouble.

  • amanda March 22, 2013, 10:30 pm

We’ve had a problems with this fridge since we purchased it. We had a repairman come twice for this issue. The first time Nov 2010 and the coils were frozen. He replaced the evaporator since it was still under warranty. The 2nd time was June 2011 and it was the same problem – frozen coils. He said to defrost it since replacing the evaporator was expensive and obviously didn’t fix it before. It is once again frozen. Now the water filter is also leaking. What a piece of junk, especially for the expensive price. We are very disappointed in the waste of money and time on this product.

  • Evelyn Krantz March 25, 2013, 5:15 pm

I have a RF26xaEBP drian line clogged had tech come out and say you need a silver piece and the back wall replaced so the system will not freeze up. This will cost me over $350 to have this fixed due to a know error of the company that will not cover the cost of a manufacture defect as I was told today

  • Pat Giannetta March 27, 2013, 10:54 am

we have a Samsung refridge, it’s doing the same as everybody else’s.
freezing up & the condensation is draining out below the crisper drawers..
PSE&G came out for for a look & the service guy informed of the problems that every Samsung owner is having, btw , we called PSE&G because I a service contract w/ them, service guy refused to even try fix it, because Samsung themselve’s has no cure for the problem..
What do we do in the meantime w/ these refer’s??
put them in the back yard & look at them? throw em out? buy a new one?
I want the attorney to respond to this Question..
we all can’t wait 5 yrs + for a class action suite to get thru the court system!!!!
    SO WHAT IS THE ANSWER?????

  • Pat Bowman March 29, 2013, 2:22 pm

Yes we have the same problem that everyone else is having with this Samsung. We took a hair dryer and melted all of the ice and now it is still at 60 degrees. So what now? Samsung should not sell products like this!!!!!!!

Please add my RF26xAeBP/XXA french door samsung we bought in December 2009. Once a month we have to empty the fridge, full the inside back off and blowdry and melt all the ice build up. What a hunk of junk!

  • Joe Perkins April 4, 2013, 9:28 pm

I purchased my refrigerator, model number RF268ABBP, on 12/7/09. From the first day, I have had trouble with it. We have had water below the cool select pantry tray, with three different repair men to try to fix it. I have replaced the upper ice maker, and now the problem is fan noise with ice build up in the back. It is out of warranty and Samsung can’t give an answer on how to repair the problem. This refrigerator is GARBAGE. Someone needs to do something with Lowe’s, who said it was the “consumer report’s best refrigerator” and Samsung, who built this thing.

  • Kristy McDonald April 6, 2013, 9:58 pm

RS265LABP Purchased from Lowes in 2006 Amarillo, TX. First sign, I noticed that the middle drawer wouldn’t go in all the way in so I took it out and saw a build up of frost and ice. I removed the drawer and set the fridge to a higher temp from 38 to 42 to see if that would thaw the ice. The blower motor started making a loud noise like it was hitting something and the food didn’t seem to be very cold. I researched the issue and found this site. Please add me to the list. Its ridiculous that I have a nice fairly new refrigerator that doesn’t work properly.

  • Aaron Moore April 13, 2013, 7:47 pm

I have a SAMSUNG refrigerator model# RF266ABPN and have the same problem with the Coil freezing and making a loud noise from fan hitting the ice, I just removed the cover for the second time in 6 month’s and defrosted the coil and fan. I cannot keep this up Samsung needs to come up with a fix to this problem. add my name to your list if it will force Samsung to fix this problem.

  • Heidi Talbot April 15, 2013, 12:58 pm

I purchased the Samsung RF267ACRS/XXA refridgerator from Lowes in 2010 and had to have Sears come out and do a repair on the inside back of the fridge in 2012 because water was pooling under the crisper drawers and leaking on the floor. We paid 380.00 and are having the same issue a year later. I called Samsung and they said they have no record of a problem with this model when I mentioned the class action lawsuit , and was transferred to the Executive Customer Relations Dept who told me that it was out of warrantee and they would only be able to send out another tech that I would be responsible for paying for!
All of my appliances are Samsung and I am now so dissapointed in this product, I will never buy another!

    BROKEN SAMSUNG REFRIGERATOR

    TICKET# 5105581953

Two years ago I purchased a SAMSUNG REFRIGERATOR (model # RS267TDRS) and about a year after we bought it we started to have problems with it NOT COOLING. Well needless to say, today it officially BROKE and all of our food has SPOILED. I immediately contacted SAMSUNG and I spoke with Tiffany B. (operator #1062) and Shonda H. (operator #1682) of their customer service department and she told me that there is nothing that she can do to replace the refrigerator because it is out of WARRANTY. After pleading with her that I have three small children under the age of five who need to have access to milk, juice, and medication that requires refrigeration she told me that she would schedule a SERVICE call (Ticket# 5105581953). The problem is that I live in a rural part of Virginia and they won’t be able to come to look at the refrigerator for a few weeks let alone fix it on the spot or that it would be covered since it probably would be something that is not under their warranties. I NEED HELP!!!! I cannot wait this long to get it looked at!!! I have already lost $500 dollars’ worth of groceries and I if I replace it with new food we don’t have a way to store that food. PLEASE, IF SOMEONE AT SAMSUNG is reading this take action to HELP ME. I am writing this posting in hopes that someone at SAMSUNG will see this and be able to get me a REAL RESOLUTION to this problem because I don’t know what to do (Maybe exchange for another USED MODEL or even a NEW ONE?). I currently work for the MARINE CORPS and we can’t afford to buy another $1500 dollar refrigerator especially since this one was purchased brand new 24 months ago from LOWES. I don’t like dropping the WE ARE A MILITARY FAMILY moniker; but the fact is I am a veteran who needs help. Again, SAMSUNG PLEASE HELP!!! I am desperate since as a veteran we don’t make the type of money that most other families do, not that any AMERICAN family makes enough money to keep replacing refrigerators every two years. To be fair, I will update everyone if there is an amicable resolution to this issue.

    Semper Fi,

    Isaac

To Ike – good luck man.
My 3year old rf267xaebp has had trouble since it was 13 months old. First the water under the vegetable bins, then the water dispenser drips all the time, and finally 1 month ago the fan was hitting on the ice wall that had built up on the coil. I called a tech (samsung recommended) and after a $565 repair bill, I was told it was ok. 2 days later I noticed the light in the freezer compartment was out. I tried to change the bulb, but it wasn’t that. The tech came back and spent 2 hours troubleshooting and finally said the problem wans’t related the the previous fix – $200 or more to fix the light problem. I declined. 2 days ago the water was built up under the vegetable bins again. The tec is returning tomorrow. I’ll let this comment line know the results.
The reason I said to Ike “good luck” is because after 2 years of dealing with Samsung, I know there is going to be no help from them – and as far as them monitoring these comment lines that’s not going to happen either. I have many family members that have samsung tvs – no problems. I also have others that have other samsung appliances and they all suck. I had a samsung galaxy phone for 3 years and it was good. But because of the refrigerator and the way samsung has treated me (and obviously many many others) I do know that I will NEVER buy any samsung product ever again.

  • Roslyn M Davis April 25, 2013, 1:41 am

All i can say is the same thing every one else is say and the fact that they would continue to make a product that they know is at fault is just unbeiliveable, i cant tell you how much food i have had to throw away! and how much i have had to put in the freezer just to keep from throwing away! because i cant afford to buy another refregerator at this time in these trying days they should be held acountable for this, they really should.

  • Christine April 25, 2013, 8:01 am

I have an RF266 Series Model (RF266ABPN) and have had the same problem with ice build up behind the back panel which then freezes over the fan, preventing the fan from circulating the cold air. The first time this happened I had a tech out (under warranty). He removed the back panel and used a blow dryer to defrost everything and said it was just condensation build up. Because it wasn’t a “closed unit” problem…I still had to pay them over 200 dollars. This has happened 3 times since then and a defrost it myself. This works for about 3-4 months. Incidentally, it also seems like when my sensor to change the filter comes on, it is shortly after that that I notice ice build up beginning. (Wondering if there is a connection between the filter sensor and defrost cycling if they run on same circuit).

We have Samsung Model#RFG298AARS and just found our hardwood floors in the kitchen covered in water released from the refrigerator. The refrigerator was making noise to alert something was wrong. We opened the frig and everything in it was warm…basically ruined. The water was more prominent on the left side (near water and ice maker). After reading all these posts…please include me in any class action lawsuit that is filed.
