Samsung Refrigerator Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Filed Over Alleged Frozen Coil Defect

Samsung Refrigerator Owners File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Samsung Over Alleged Defect That Causes Refrigerator Coils To Freeze Over.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (hereafter “Samsung” or “Defendants”) in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (styled Jeff Weske, Jo Anna Frager and Darryl Myhre v. Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Civil Action Case No. 2:10-cv-04811-WJM -MF) alleging, among other things, that Samsung sold refrigerators containing a defect that causes the refrigerators’ coils to freeze over, resulting in the failure of the refrigerator to cool, which has caused consumers to suffer damages for lost groceries, spoilage and repairs, according to class action lawsuit news reports.

The Samsung refrigerator class action lawsuit complaint reportedly alleges that certain Samsung French door, side-by-side and bottom freezer refrigerators (model numbers RF266AASH, RS263BBWP, RB1955SH, RS2533SW, RS267LASH, RS267TDRS, RS2630WW) the refrigerators are designed and manufactured with heated coils that are intended to prevent excess frost from developing in the back of the machine, but instead of preventing frost, the coils allegedly allow frost and ice to build up in the refrigerators until the ice clogs and/or disables the machine’s fans, making it impossible for the fans to work to keep the machine cool.

The Samsung refrigerator coil class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of the following putative class members, unless otherwise excluded:

All persons or entities residing in the United States who own, or have owned, Samsung refrigerator models RF266AASH, RS263BBWP, RB1955SH, RS2533SW, RS267LASH, RS267TDRS, RS2630WW and/or any other Samsung refrigerator model containing a defect that causes the refrigerator’s coils to ice over and the refrigerator to stop cooling.

I have a Samsung side by side RS2534BB bought at Best Buy in June of 2005. October 12, 2010 the fridge side quit cooling, had a repair man out today and it is the coils that are froze up like everyone elses. Just called Samsung to report the problem and they don’t have any recalls or issues on my particular model. Funny seems to be all over the internet and even this suit has been filed. Will never own another Samsung product, unfortunately we have a Samsung LCD tv also.

I had the same issue recently with my Samsung RS263BBWP side by side refrigerator. Fridge side won’t cool, freezer is fine. I was going to have it repaired when I found the dozens of online complaints concerning this model and others. I bought unit from Best Buy in 2007 and it went bad in November 2011.

  • Justin May December 27, 2010, 1:37 pm

Same issue with the RS2530 model. We bought the fridge from Best Buy and 1 year later the freezer coils started freezing over, forcing us to defrost by unplugging the unit. I’ve called Samsung several times and they are useless. This is major concern for me because I have to keep my daughter’s insulin cold.

I have a Samsung side by side RS2534BB bought at Best Buy in June of 2005. Some time in July the Refrigerator side started icing up and stopped cooling. I have been switching of the refrigerator and deicing the
coil to get it to work (works for 20 days and the ice’s up).

Same problem with mine its 3 yrs old now. I was proud of this unit till the repairman gave me a estimate on the repair. I called Samsung over a week ago they gave me a ticket number and said a repairman would call in 24 hrs.– till this time no call–they didn’t want to consider a waranty nrepair.
I just bought a new set of samsung front loader washer and dryer– hope I have better luck with these.

Have a model RS2533SW which ices up on fridge side, as typical. Wondering what result of class action lawsuit was, and how one becomes a participant and/or recipient of any payout from Samsung?

  • HB January 10, 2011, 6:12 pm

I bought a Samsung French Door Refridger last april. 8 Months later the fridge freezes everything. The temperature keeps sinking. The repair man has come to my house 3 times and fails all attempts. Samsung doesn’t want to replace the fridge at all. I think my fridge is in the same boat even though, the model number is not in the suit.

People should stop buying Samsung product.

  • Debbie January 15, 2011, 5:35 pm

How does one get involved in the Class Action Lawsuit against Samsung regarding their crappy refrigerators, or at least stay informed as to the status of the Lawsuit? We went through the very same thing in 2009 with our 2-year-old refrigerator with absolutely no help or resolution from the Company. Threw the damm thing out and bought from a reliable company – Maytag. Didn’t expect the Samsung to last 45+ years like my parent’s refrigerator, but I certainly expect a $1500 purchase to last longer than 2 years!

  • nick sawyer January 15, 2011, 10:43 pm

Would like to know how to join the lawsuit. I have a RS2530BWP and cannot even get it fixed. The reapairman said he could not even get the part if I pay. I bought another fridge but this one is in my garage waiting to see if I can fix it eventually it is only 3 years old. Can someone tell me where to go.

    • Robert Puhek July 17, 2011, 7:15 pm

how do I join this lawsuit. I have a RF265ABBP. Lowes is replacing this refer for the scecond time this week, so this will be the third one. The frezzer is like an igloo every thing is frozzen up. the ice maker is frozen solid. I constantly have to defrost it, like the 1950’s the twin cooling in the refer all icees up and the fan hits the ice and it does not cool right. I have have had to through out food constantly.
I think they owe me a replacement for any refer I want for this frustration. I am very ill and this is the last thing I need to deal with. HELP!!!

  • Fred VanPelt January 19, 2011, 7:53 am

I have the same problem with the Samsung refrigerator I bought several years ago Model # is RM255LASH. I spent $2498.00 + tax on my frig. & just like the previous comment–mine is sitting in the garage. I finally bought another refrig. since I could get NO help from the service folks!!! Seems there is no way to fix this frig. but you hate to throw away $3000.00!!! After discarding food 3 times, I decided to give up!!! How to I get my name on this lawsuit?

    • Walter August 8, 2011, 3:47 pm

      Hi Fred.
I am in the same position as you and all other Samsung frig owners. We just found out about this lawsuit. Did you find out how you can get your name on this lawsuit? I need to find out.
      Thanks

      • TapperIsTicked April 7, 2013, 5:22 pm

The RM255LASH is not one of the models identified in the class action. Should the court decide in the plaintiffs favor I am not sure the 25 hundred we all spent will be covered. Has anyone dug into the case number and contacted the legal firm representing the plaintiffs in the class action. The model pool needs to be enlarged. Maybe they can incorporate the guberment bureaucrats for libel since they come up with all the regulations and mandates to save us all from crap products. Wonderful group these saviors of humanity.

  • Karla Moore February 4, 2011, 9:30 pm

I have a useless Samsung refrigerator. It is less than 4 years old and has had the same problems with the coils freezing up, starting as soon as the one year warrranty expired.. I have it “repaired” 3 times and it currently is not working at all. I have lost a lot of food each time. Plus the inconvience and aggravation of dealing with the problems each time it occured. I will never buy another Samsung product again.Right now, I have my perishable groceries stored on ice until I can purchase another refrigerator. Samsung refrigerators are a complete waste of your money.

  • Linda Van Akin February 8, 2011, 10:42 pm

    Ditto ditto ditto!

I too would also like to learn how to join, add to, add on…..
to this class action. First Samsung side by side went out right away.
$1000+ in costs, wasted food, aggravation, consumers assistance, BBB reporting, calls, letters, endless holds on the phone, etc. with my
86 yr old mother without her fridge in the summer for weeks (and
she no longer shops/drives due to hip problems) for an inordinate hiatus in help/response from Fry’s Electronics and/or Samsung. Finally, they replaced it but NOT with the same model; sans features the original one was chosen for. This second one is now not
cooling the refrigerator side and was not freezing until I
did a defrost and is now on high and we have soft ice cream, no ice
and all scarey, iffy, not so fresh, food worth over $500 on one side
about to be tossed again from this ongoing Samsung refrigerator never ending, money pit, nightmare. And, I am not too sure of the quality
and temp changes of the freezer food. Let’s everyone call our
local, national, cable, and network consumer alert/help tv stations
as well as all the social nets with this startling info and get our
hot machines replaced with a proper cold one with 7 yr. warranty
and our costs and time and stress compensated by these Jersey Boys!

    • Harold December 5, 2011, 8:58 am

      Were do I sign up?

  • Linda Van Akin February 8, 2011, 10:50 pm

The Samsung model discussed above is: RS2530BWP 25 Cu Ft.
Disgusted consumer – they should step up and save face – do the
right thing, salvage some reputation! How does one join forces here?

  • janice ferguson February 14, 2011, 8:42 am

i read all the complaints on samsung. i have the same issues samsung is a piece of junk and the repairmen don’t have a clue. everyone wants to join lawsuit ,SO do i. Why is there no information anywhere how to join . I am tired of the dog chasing his tail thing. Just give us some information ppppllleeeaaaase !!! Has everybody gone to the moon?

  • Janice Ferguson February 14, 2011, 12:27 pm

I found the terms of the class action lawsuit on Samsung referigerators. My understanding is that Samsung will, if convicted, will be responsible for contacting consumers, as there are so many of us there is no way we can all be listed on lawsuit. Lawsuit seeks to represent all entities residing in USA who owns or owned, Samsung numerous models containing a defect in which refg. coils ice over and refg. stops cooling. That is my understanding. What about all the other defects causing these Samsung refg’s to malfunction. Samsung should be responsible for reimbursing for all their faulty junk refg’s. We have already spent $300. on unsucessful repair + spoiled food, and medication. My insulin went bad. We still have a defected refg. and I am not optimistic.I am really upset. Repairman is comming again tomorrow. We will see, this will be 3x’s. I blame Samsung for not releasing information. They seem to be getting by with this sorry behavior. Why are they being allowed to continue doing this to us , the people of USA. They should be banned from selling anything, after they pay up.

  • Dung Hoang February 21, 2011, 6:27 pm

I had Samsung RS2530 side by side had the same problem . And also TV Samsung LCD CAN NOT SOLVE PROBLEM . NEVER NEVER BUY Samsung product AGAIN .

  • Karla D. Moore February 23, 2011, 11:31 pm

I have already written about what a worthless refrigerator my Samsung is. I ,too, want to know how to sign up for the class action lawsuit.

  • Natasha Richardson February 24, 2011, 8:58 pm

I bought a samasung side by side refrigerator model RS261MDBP eleven months ago from Best Buy. I started having the same problem this week. My one year warranty expires on 3/2 and samsung gave me the number to a repair man that lives 4 hours away that cannot be contacted by phone! All I get is a recording with no way to leave a message! Luckily, I know an authorized repair facility in my area who will attempt to repair my fridge tomorrow. I owned a samsung blackjack (cell phone) for 3 years and it was a very good product; so naturally I felt that a samsung was a good investment. After reading all the complaints, I am sickened. This whole experience even has me not wanting to buy anything from Lowes or Best Buy as both stores KNEW about the defect and took no steps to protect its consumers!

  • Josh March 3, 2011, 10:00 pm

I just bought this samsung fridge off the internet. After 15 days the thing frooze up. Took it all apart myself today and thawed it out with a hair dryer. I’m wondering if anyone had the coils replaced, thermostat replaced, or any other part replaced that fixed the problem. Please let me know. thanks

  • E Wen March 5, 2011, 10:15 pm

Please let us know how do we sign up for the class action lawsuit also? Own a RS25454SH and we have been defrosting it by hairdryer every 6 months since!

  • John Davis March 9, 2011, 8:39 pm

Same thing, Purchased my Samsung Side by Side “twin cooling ” model # RS265LBBP in August 2007, from the local Lowes Home Improvement in Rockingham, NC. The icing problem struck for the first time in the summer of 2009. called the Samsung Warranty Department and they gave me the runaround, but said that the parts were out of warranty, and that i would be responsible for service call and repairs. Since that point I have been doing the hair dryier ritual every 5 to six weeks. Please add me to the list. I fully intend to call the attorney listed at the end of the class demand.

  • Serguei Zoubak March 16, 2011, 1:31 pm

RM255LASH, bought in 2008 for ~$2000. At 2009 it failed. As warranty was expired, I payed $350 to Samsung authorized dealer for “hair dryer reparation”. In 2 mos it failed again. Since then it serves as an expensive piece of kitchen furniture to store dog food and old newspapers. Very good investment…

I would definitely sign up for lawsuit.

P.S. Actually I use old GE fridge (from 2001) and it works perfectly.
    It’s a shame, Samsung

  • Brian Holloway March 17, 2011, 1:00 pm

I also have one of the infamous Samsung RS267LASH side x sides with the faulty defrost heating element. I purchased the refrigerator in 2005 and at the beginning of 2011 I started to have defrost problems (refrigerator side only). You have to take the back panel off (inside of refrigerator) and melt the ice block covering the evaporator with a hair dryer. Called Samsung to send authorized service tech. The tech verified that the defrost heating element was out. Heating element was designed and built into the evap coil, so the evaporator has to be removed and replaced. Since the evap is part of the refrigeration system, it should be covered under the 5 year refrigeration system warranty. The tech didn’t want to get into the refrig. system, so he claimed that it was not covered under warranty. Since Samsung does not sell the heating element only (it’s part of the evaporator, therefore, you have to buy the entire evaporator assembly), the tech was going to have me purchase the evap assembly. His plan was to remove and replace the heating element from the new evap assembly and then scrap the rest of the evaporator and then try to replace the heater element only. This company (A&E Factory Service) is the only authorized service company in San Antonio TX (the 8th largest US city), so I have no recourse. So, it looks to me like the Samsung authorized service company is complicit in this “defect cover-up” as well. I plan to join the class action suit!!

Same here, RS267LASH… working on fixing it right now.

  • Beverly Torino March 22, 2011, 4:29 pm

I am another victim of the Samsung technology. I bought my refrigerator rs2530bbp that broke every 3 to 6 months since I purchased it at Best Buy in 5/08….What a rip off!! Then I had to have 3 of our TV’s (2 lcd’s and 1 dlp) fixed at only 2 years old! Seems the flat screen lcd’s had a defective resistor and Samsung admitted it after so many complaints. Samsung will pay for a 1 time repair if it is due to their defective $2 part. As for the DLP tv that was only 2 years old, I had to replace the lamp for $150 plus shipping and handling. When it comes to quality control and customer service Samsung should keep their products oversees..I am sick of getting stuck with cheap plastic breakable useless crap that cost a fortune. I bought an old model replacement fridge and it has more room, makes tons of ice, and the temperature actually works! What EVER happened to good old quality assurance in the USA? I hope Samsung has to pay each and every one of us for all the lost food, aggravation, tons of repairs that don’t hold up, and mental anguish. Maybe then the big companies will put some effort into real QUALITY! What really scares me is that nuclear reactor over in Japan because if they made it the way they made our refrigerators then everyone is doomed.

    • andy duong October 25, 2011, 5:57 pm

samsung is a south korean company. japan has nothing to do with it.

  • Michael Lambert March 27, 2011, 4:19 pm

I had the Samsung just long enough for the warranty to run out before the coils started freezing up.

  • Carol March 31, 2011, 10:41 pm

I have the same problem with my RS2545SH, we keep defrosting it, but it always comes back, no local person will fix the problem, I called the company, and they where suppose to get back to me, but they said the repair person charges $150.00 just to come out. I was stupid enough to by their dishwasher, which the wheels on the dish trays keep coming off, plus, it doesn’t do a good job, then the microwave the is rated for a certain amp. but keep blowing the fuse, and an oven, that doesn’t get warm enough. All bought in 2008. We paid over $4000.00 for these appliances, and they are horrible. I would like to join the lawsuit also, where do I sign up?

  • Doug in Utah April 1, 2011, 9:35 pm

I’ve had this same miserable, ongoing problem with my Samsung RS2545SH since purchasing it at Costco back in 2007. The first repair was just months later, at which time the repairman replaced a couple of sensors in the region of the refrigerator coils and called it good! It worked well for another couple of months before I needed to pull everything apart once again, allowing the coils and cover mechanism to thoroughly defrost before reassembling it all and reloading the refrigerator, only to have it fail again months later! What a mess!!! Now since having additional people living in the home (which, supposedly, means the refrigerator door is opened much more often), these “repairs” are only lasting for weeks – not months. And, lately, I’ve noticed that it’s the 1×2 inch rectangular hole that allows airflow through the circulating fan (to the rest of the refrigerator section) that gets plugged up, which just seems to further exacerbate the problem.

The freezer section has always seemed to work as expected. What’s up with the refrigerator? I am NEVER buying Samsung again, regardless of the product!

  • JIM IN VEGAS April 6, 2011, 10:07 pm

My rf266aash has a different problem it is freezing everything! pulled it away from wall, set thermo at highest setting, filled it, water filter froze and exploded. any help!!!!

  • Alicen April 12, 2011, 9:57 pm

I bought my Samsung RS254RSH at Costco in 2007, as I liked the design. Since then I’ve discovered that I bought a beautiful “lemon.” The refrigerator stopped working shortly after I brought it home. First, it seemd to freeze everything in the refrigerator. Next, ice formed behind the vegetable bin causing the bin to move forward. Consequently, the refrigerator door wouldn’t shut. After that repair, which was in excess of $400., the refrigerator worked for about a year.

Currently, both the freezer and the refrigerator are not cooling. Again, ice is forming near the motor, in back of the vegetable bin. The refrigerator is making a horrible noise, as if the motor is in distress. Also, loud popping noises from time to time. Very worrisome, as I fear it will catch on fire! Again, I’m having to throw food away. I’ve had to uses ice chests until I get another refrigerator.. So maddening when I paid over $1200 for a refrigerator that works!

I went online seeking a solution to my problem and discovered the class action lawusit. Please let me know how to sign up!

  • Travis April 16, 2011, 7:26 pm

I have the same problems, model # RS255BASB. How do I sign up for the class action lawsuit?

    • Lori February 27, 2012, 9:37 am

Hey Travis and everyone else, I’ve had the exact same issue with RS255BASB. I’ve had repairmen out here 4 times. They replaced the motor, the insulation and numerous other things. Freezer was fine, but refrigerator did not cool. Ice maker then stopped working and so did water dispenser. The chill drawer would freeze whatever was in it.

How do we get in on the settlement?

    • Beverly Drake October 22, 2012, 1:05 pm

      1. Deforest not working
      2. I have to manually defrost
      3. Had reapirman out . I was told to buy another refrigerator.
      3. Lost all my food numerous time
      4. Same problems as other Samsung owners

i am also the victim of a shoddy appliance manufactured by Samsung. our French Door Refrigerator model RV26 has the freezing behind the panel. our water dispenser was replaced after 4months and now a year and half later, after the warranty has run out, the ice dispenser has stopped working. the serviceman found ice behind the panel. defrosted and that lasted one week… i wanted a refund but Samsung has yet to come through with any compensation. where do i sign up for this lawsuit?

  • Dawn Slager Michigan April 27, 2011, 8:48 am

We own a Samsung side by side RS2534WW and the freezer starts with the coils freezing up and the top 2 racks don’t keep the food frozen and then the refrigerator won’t keep the top racks cold and the bottom stuff freezes. We have thrown out food and paid for repairs and every 3 months end up defrosting the thing. We have done this now for a year and I’m sick of it. This refrigerator is only about 6 years old! Let me know how to join the lawsuit!

  • majid abedi April 30, 2011, 2:22 pm

I happened to ours 9 just into the last month of warranty and and they refused to do anything about it.
I Have promissed myself to never buy any samsung products any more.
This refreg. has been nothing but problem

  • Angela April 30, 2011, 4:51 pm

I purchased the Samsung Refrigertor on Jan 2010, the temperature never reached O degree, which caused the frost to built up and frozed the ice crusher. Food in the freezer were soft and not fozen. The Samsung authorized repair guy came out 3 times and fize.nally the authorized repair suggested and approved for a new unite. This new unit which I received 2 month’s ago is doing the same thing. It doesn’t freeze. It is always at 10 degree F .
I wanted the money back but at no results. Please contact me for a class action suite.

I have also purchased a Samsung Refrigerator and have had not only problems, but the run around from Samsung.

I have started a Facebook page dedicated to People who Purchased Samsung Refrigerator and now have Problems.

Bought a Samsung RS2644SL sid by side in July of 2005 from Electronics express. Had the freeze up issue last year when it was still under the 5 year warrantly. The local Samsung authorized repair people found the freeze up issue discribed in the lawsuit and installed a drain plate and evaporator “fix” that lasted until earlier this week when the refrigerator went warm – tech came back – found the freeze up issue again and informed me that the evaporator coil quit working. She said that it was a sealed unit that could not be repaire and told me to call Samsung. I called and go the “corporate customer service” line. They were helpful and understandin until they found out that my frig was over 5 years old (no Waranty). at that point the only answer I got from them was”sorry, we cannot help you”. Now that I search this issue and found this to be a common complaint – please count me in on any calls action suit. I spent $1300 for that box and now I need to spend at least another $1800 for another refrigerator to replace it.

I need to join this suit plus I want my money back and they can come take their refridge out of my kitchen. I just purchased it in July 2010. Its model number RF 4287 . It suddenly stopped cooling, all the ice in the ice maker melted and went thru the floor, into my basement and ruined a few of my things. I called Samsung, they had me reset it and that did not work. The said a service man will call immediately and set up an appointment. No one called for over 8 hours so I called them. Guess what? They cant come until Thursday….thats five days away. I asked what should I do with all the food going bad. He told me to call Samsung because thats not their problem…its Samsungs problem. All they do is repair. PLEASE get me on that suit. I WANT ALL MY MONEY BACK INCLUDED THE 1200 bucks I paid Best Buy for an extended. warranty. The appliance is only 6 months old. The one it replaced was over 24 yrs old and never gave us a problem, but we remodeled our kitchen.

I bought Samsung side by side fridge RS267LBBP late of Feb. 2007.
April 2011 fridge side stopped cooling. Used hair dryer to melt the ice
several times. I replaced the motor part, expedite shipping but didn’t
fix the problem at all. Because of that I went back again melting the ice with my hair dryer. I WILL NEVER BUY SAMSUNG FRIDGE!!!! I WILL TELL ALL MY FRIENDS NOT TO BUY THEIR PRODUCT!!!!!

  • TERENCE May 24, 2011, 8:12 am

I bought a Samsung from Best Buy- side by side fridge RS267LASH in the winter of 2006.
MAY 3, 2011 fridge side stopped cooling. Turned off unit to defrost several times, Used hair dryer to melt the ice 4 times. Call Sears repair service 5 times. Every (4) repairman complained about working on the unit. As of this writing I have lost $200+ in food, 6 days of work, and a con-job on a additional service agreement from Sears for $261.00. The damn refrigerator is still not working after Sears so call tech replaced thermo and bimetal scensors. Had to buy a used 12 year old Fridgidare until this lemon is replaced or fixed? Thanks to Best Buy for the high recommendation to buy this Sh…….t.

I purchased a side by side samsung model RFG295AA in july 2008 from lowe’s in ashland, ky. The first one didnt work, so they took it back and replaced it with another. this one made a screeching noise for a long time and the ice maker went out. the warranty was good and it was replaced. the technician that worked on it said the next thing to go would probably be the defroster causing water to get under the crisper and running down into the freezer… this thing is a piece on “JUNK”.

  • Yadi June 2, 2011, 3:53 pm

also have a samsung #rs267lash, that is less that 5 years old. the symptoms mentioned here have started. first no ice, water still flows but no water in tray for ice makerm, weather still ‘”cool”” so dont worry about ice yet but now the huge highs and lows in the freezer and refrigerator have started, opening or not opening doors on the side by side makes little difference on temperature. have called repairman so far no idea what problem is but will come again tomorrow and bring his friend maybe they can get it fixed. every interested in joining class action lawsuit.

    • Donna Grimes July 1, 2011, 5:56 pm

Same problems with my RS253BAWW that I purchased from Best Buy in August, 2006. From 2007 thru 2009 I contacted Samsung numerous times by phone as well as wrote them a two-page letter regarding time-frames and costs of the problem. Absolutely the worse Customer Relations Department that I have ever dealt with. I refused to spend another penny to try to get it fixed so it is being used for the freezer only! I now own a Kenmore and I love it!

    • MARTIN T. July 3, 2011, 12:08 pm

I purchased a Samsung RS263BBWP from Best Buy a few years ago and it worked for awhile before problems started… I have to say that the Samsung refrigerator is one of the worst that I have ever seen in my life in regards to the very poor quality, lack of warranty, parts availability and local service support from your service agent – unreliable. I’ve had to wait over 3 weeks each time for parts.

Their customer support people are not technically inclined and should not be considered customer support – more like order takers – (I don’t blame them as Samsungs culture and management had made the decision not to educate their support people… If so, they are not the correct people to do the job as they do not have the knowledge on the refrigerators or the parts itself…

My refrigerator has been out since before Easter Holiday – 2011, I called customer service many times as well as their your local serviceman who never wanted to make a visit to view my problematic refrigerator – He seemed to be too busy with other things like repairing TV’s and/or did not want to make the trip since it was a slight distance or inconvenience for him… We finally made contact via e-mail with him and he was to make a visit to repair our Samsung Refrigerator, but we ended up having to fire him after weeks of waiting with no response.

This whole ordeal has been very upsetting to my wife and I with all that we have been through trying to get our refrigerator – (Samsung’s Product), repaired since before Easter Holiday – it’s TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!!

Through the years we have purchased many products made by Samsung with great success and it was that history with Samsung that led me to look at purchasing a Samsung Refrigerator. I’ve been involved with Customer Service/Support for over 30 years and unfortunately, if this is the way they operate their business – this division won’t be in business much longer.

We have been and still are without the use of your Samsung Refrigerator. – for all of our/family hardship – (since Easter), the poor quality of the unit – (Can you say Lemon!), with the lack of assistance – (So called customer support), and lack of local support & response that we have encountered – Samsung should stand behind their product and replace these refrigerators at No Charge… Or at least have it repaired at No Charge!

I have a side by side #Rs255BASB that was purchased in 2006 had the frige evaporator icing problem since 2006 and have been unable to get it resolved. Removing about 10 screws in the frige to remove a panel covering the evaporator and using a hair dryer to melt the ice on the evaporator coils seems to be what you have to do when the frige temp indicator begins to blink. I have had technicians (A&E) come out and not solved the situation. Was told not covered under warrenty even though we had an extended warrenty on this and still was asked to pay out of pocket or I would have to defrost myself with hair dryer and just deal every 6 months is what I was basically told. I cant believe that I was told to take apart myself and defrost with dryer or leave door open to defrost itself, when its covered. It is crazy. As this is leaving puddles on my floor under my fridge that is rotting the wood on my cabinet next to the fridge. I have lost food and according to the Limited Warranty in the booklet that comes with the fridge it states 5 yrs parts and labor on compressor, evaporator, condenser, drier, and connecting tubing. But I was told that this is not covered. Well I think that if my coils keep freezing over I would think that this should of been covered. The tech told me that these were the worst refrigerators to own and to stick with Maytag. I like my fridge but this problem has become a big problem with my time and money. I should not have to defrost my fridge. When you pay $1900.00 for a fridge you expect it to work right. Samsung does not want to help the customers resolve the problem. I was told the same as all of you above with the whole run around, We are very unhappy and would really like this resolved. I to would love to join this class action lawsuit.

  • BRAD M. June 13, 2011, 7:50 pm

Bought a french door bottom freezer 26 cubic foot Samsung fridge in January of 2010. After only a few months the freezer compartment was full of frost and icing up. A few months later water started building up and freezing under the lower pull out drawer in the fridge compartment. Not acceptable for a less than a year old fridge. Back in March we had to unplug and defrost the whole thing. We lost a bunch of food and most of our weekend in the process… not happy. Will probably never shop at Sears again, and definitely will never buy anything Samsung in the future. Need to be part of this lawsuit and get repairations from Samsung.

I bought a Samsung rs2630ww side by side refrigerator in 2005. It is the worst appliance I have ever owned. The freezer is too cold the refrigerator is too warm. All the shelves have broken and I have had the condenser fan changed twice just to name a few defects. The water dispenser does not work properly and most plastic parts inside the unit have cracked.

  • william F June 21, 2011, 1:40 pm

I have a RS253Ba, same problem as everyone else. I have replaced three sensors and the motherboard and that has helped a little. I still must remove the inside panels and use the hair dryer treatment from time to time to free the ice that has frozen inside the drain. If I do not do this I will have water all over the floor. When I bought this thing it had the JC Powers sticker on it…seems to not mean a thing. Samsung seems to be spaced out on this problem or as some say mentally challenged.

  • Skunked by Samsung June 24, 2011, 11:20 am

Bought side by side Samsung model from “Best Buy” (unusual name considering) back in early 2004 for just under 2k. Worked just fine until about 3 weeks ago….refrigerator temp dropped slowly as ice crept up the back wall of the fridge. First warning sign (which I didn’t catch) was the water resevoir freezing so that you couldn’t get water from the dispenser. Next, the fridge temp flashed on the panel. I reset it and it stopped flashing. About a week later, we could really tell how warm the fridge was getting (freezer is fine this whole time) and we stuck a thermometer in there over night. We woke the next morning to check it and found that it was 57 degrees in our fridge! This is a big deal for us, not just because of loss of food, but we have to store insulin in the fridge too, so it just threw us for a loop. We’ve put EVERYTHING into coolers in the garage and have been rotating frozen food from our deep freezer (also in garage) through the coolers to keep the food cooler. I know we’ll end up throwing most of it away anyhow. Just a shame. This was my first fridge too. Guess I’ll have to suck it up and pay big bucks for a May Tag or Fridgedaire type so I can avoid this crap. Repair guy comes today to install two “clips” which are supposed to keep the cooling coils from freezing again. Fridge has been unplugged for 3 days now in order to avoid cracking this foam backing the repair guy discussed. We also anticipate having to replace the water resevoir container as it is likely to have cracked. So far, we’re $300 into it, but from reading all the posts above, it sounds like we’ve just started on a slow death march thanks to Samsung. DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG PRODUCTS! Such a horrible experience – makes you miss work plus you have to talk to repair guys who are supposed to be experts and no matter how much reading you do to prepare yourself for meeting with them (to make sure you don’t get scammed), you get scammed. OY! Best of luck to you all.

  • Ya Huang June 25, 2011, 12:22 pm

Brought a RS2530 April 2008, problem started last year, on and off. Mostly the refrig side not cooling off. Was told that the defroster not working properly.

How do I join the class lawsuit?

  • Todd wheeland June 27, 2011, 11:29 am

    The same problems!

  • Neva Jones June 27, 2011, 9:47 pm

This is exactly the issue I had with my RS267LASH!!! After having other parts replaced that didn’t fix the issue. Finally the defective coil issue was fixed, the problem is the design is the thermacouple/temperature probe is enclosed in the coil so the repairman has to cut into the coil, remove and replace the thermacouple/temperature probe, then weld it back so they have to take your refridgerator to the repair shop to fix!

  • Savvymom June 29, 2011, 2:23 am

We purchased a RS2545SH/XAA in 2007. We had a repair man come out and charge $133. That helped for about 1yr. I am so frustrated, this fridge should have lasted a lot longer for the money I paid. I want to join the lawsuit. Pls. Tell me how,

  • Rad Rigas June 29, 2011, 10:37 am

I have the Samsung side/side refrigerator RS2545SH bought from Costco in 2006. Have the same issues as above for years. I am manually defrosting my fridge on a weekly basis as I cant afford a new one. Paid $1300 for this piece of junk.
So frustrating, dont know what else to do anymore.

Bought a new samsung Ref. just a couple months ago doubtful has anything to do with class action suit but very upset about it . Quite making Ice and frezing up a week after delivery . Purchased at HHgreg in spartenburg Sc No help from them even with the extra waranty. what a ripoff .

  • Rick K July 3, 2011, 5:26 pm

I have model rs2534ww, bought about 4 years ago. Vegtable/meat compartment would start to freeze. Then temperature on control panel started to flash on and off. Called tech out and told us to give refrigorator more space for better air circulation and to unplug unit for couple of days to defrost-which we did. Unit works fine for about 4 weeks and then problems start again with ice building up and temperature flucuations. I even tried to clean coil from bottom back of unit, which only worked temporarily. Looks like Japanese are behind the curve designing refrigs. (or at least in cost effiecient way to make money) Will definately sign up for lawsuit to get my money back.

  • Andrew Gray July 4, 2011, 3:05 am

i intend to start legal action today against samsung, same old story however i have had 3 guys out to fix it paid for by samsung they fixed the freezing up problem now the fridge is saying there is a fan fault.

if you press and hold the top two buttons on the digital reading until the numberd go out and see if one little line stays on at the bottem then we all have the same issue because they are now telling me the computer has gone and i have to replace it at my cost even though it was fine until they did there second repair.

  • tommy forrest July 4, 2011, 11:44 am

same problem as all the rest– freeser works but the ref dont cool.

  • Sarah Jones July 6, 2011, 4:05 pm

Model # R2545SH bought from Costco also has exact same issues as stated in the class action lawsuit.

I have only gotten the run around from Samsung, lots of spoiled food, defrosting manually once a week, and a massive headache. Looks like I will not be buying Samsung Refrigeration products any more.

  • Bill Arnold July 10, 2011, 9:53 am

Same problem as above, Samsung French Door Model RF268ABRS Bought past May 28th 2011, Ice maker stopped working 3 weeks after having it; water was running out of ice maker. I looked at the upper ice maker assy. and found it was not cold! called Lowes where we purchased it, and told them I wanted a ne one. They said they had to repair it… and could not replace it unless it was (unrepairable) well the service company has been out two times now and have not repaired anything… after replacing main board and sensors. Still freezing coils and stopping air flow to upper section. I called Lowes Last Thursday, told them I was not ever buying anything from them again and will not send them another payment on the credit card they pitched me to sign up for… and was told another unit would be sent out Saturday. I now have another Lemon in my kitchen… waiting for it to freeze up!!!
Samsung has got to know there is a design flaw in this product! Tells me a lot about the Company….

  • William July 13, 2011, 5:46 pm

We have a RFXAEBP/XXA model. We had it 8 month then the control broad bad. Then a month latter the fan motor went out. The two months latter the fan motor and other control broad went out. Now we have the extended warranty company doing more service calls for the coils freezing up and the fan motors going out again. We have had nine things fixed and now it is broke again. and we can not get the warranty company to place it.

I would like to join this class-action lawsuit. My Samsung side-by-side builds up water so quickly I’ve resorted to removing the bottom drawer and placing a towel at the bottom to soak up the water.

Interesting though was Samsung’s response to the issue. Don’t open the door so often. I have three children – two are hungry teenagers!

  • S. Soni July 18, 2011, 6:05 pm

I have a samsung rfg297 series fridge that has cost us over $700 in food spoilage costs. I have had a tech come out 3 times to fix the fridge. I have had the same exact problem as stated in the last few hundred complaints – the freezer and refrigerator compartments do not cool. I paid over $2400 for this fridge and I am highly disappointed at the poor customer service samsung has provided. I have paid out of pocket to get this fridge fixed, and still no luck because the part is never available. Please inform me how I can join this class action lawsuit. I have never had to deal with such an inconsiderate company….it is not like this is a $30 faulty toy we are talking about…it is a fridge that costs $2400.

  • P/Bene July 20, 2011, 6:20 pm

DITTO! Purchased RS263BBWP a little over 4 years ago. Have been fighting freezing behind the 2nd vegetable bin; Now this bin will not close all the way so I have to push to get the refrigerator door to close. Constantly wiping up water that leaks out all over the kitchen floor; My top shelves do not keep food cold; Seems like a huge liability to have the possibility of food poisoning or an accident because someone slipped due to the water on the floor, not to mention the floor damage! Have spent hours on the telephone with Best Buys and Samsung – referred back and forth between both without resolution; No certified Samsung repair people in my area. I’m sickened by the total lack of regard for well-intentioned customers who purchased an expensive appliance in “good faith” – paid their bills and now are being marginalized.I NOT ONLY WILL NEVER BUY ANY SAMSUNG PRODUCTS AGAIN, I WILL SPREAD THE WORD TO EVERYONE I POSSIBLY CAN! Samsung seems in total denial – reminds me of the denials related to the nuclear meltdowns! How do I get in on the class action suit!?!

  • Kwang Hun Lim July 21, 2011, 10:03 am

I bought the samsung refrigerator (RS262BBWP/XAA) four year ago.

When we bought the new one, the refrigerator was not functional so that I have to exchange TWICE. Since then, I have had a problem (it was not cool enough) every year and we have third problem this month. We are fighhting Samsung for a full refund, but they offer 10% deduction each year. In addition, the customer service is just Horrible. I spoke with more than 10 different people, and they are say something different. I plan to complain to the supervisor.

  • Nik Dholakia July 25, 2011, 1:44 pm

Product: Samsung 4-door refrigerator, RM 255 LASH
We moved into a new upscale home in 2006 that was thrice our first house in terms of market price. The general recommendation from friends was: “You have moved into a luxury home, make sure you buy high-end appliances”. Samsung came highly recommended. We bought Samsung front-loading washer and dryer, and this fancy 4-door fridge, with impressive brushed platinum finish, and sophisticated electronic control panel. Well.. in less than 5 years, most of the 4 compartments in this fridge have stopped the cooling or freezing function, or have only partial and degraded functioning. The company no longer makes the water filter. The ice-maker stopped working. We emailed and phoned Samsung service center, and they were no help. Eventually, the Samsung service center handed us off to a local service center that told us: “Well, we have started working with Samsung refrigerators only a month ago…” The local service center discussed all the problems we are having with this model, and gave us a $500 repair estimate. We contacted Samsung again, asking them to pick up the tab for repairs, or at least a good portion of it. Samsung refused, flat out.

    Moral of the story:
Avoid Samsung appliances… go with American labels (even if they are made in China), and buy an extended service plan. That is what we ended up doing… and our fancy, brushed platinum Samsung fridge sits in our basement as a very expensive storage cupboard, essentially a piece of furniture…!!

  • P. Penning August 1, 2011, 4:31 pm

I would like to be involved in this suit as well. I hope that someone would contact me with more information. I have been battling with my Samsung RS253BHSB virtually since we purchased it in 2006. Same issues, coils freeze up so bad that it pushes the bottom drawers of the fridge out and opens the door, water on floor etc. All of the postings have same issues as I do. No need to repeat everything. I would be greatful if someone were to keep me informed on this.

  • Joseph zubik August 1, 2011, 11:27 pm

I have the samsung rfg297AA and I have been experiencing the same problems. Freezer works great but the fridge does not cool. It is a shame very nice unit. If it is a default they should repair it

  • Stephanie Castonguay August 2, 2011, 7:07 am

We have a Samsung and have been experiencing the same problems. We have had 2 repair men here with no answer luckily they have been good enough to know they have done nothing as to not charge us. We live in a remote area and this could have cost us a lot of money. As of now our fridge is unplugged and is thawing as I am typing this. It is very frustrating.

  • John Suhanich August 8, 2011, 6:56 pm

We are having the same problems only it is the freezer unit in the side by side model #RS261MDBP. Service people have been out twice to our house to fix this problem. The ice maker doesn’t work and ice cream won’t freeze. I would like to join the class action suit because it is the same problem but with the freezer. Coils freeze up and fan won’t work. I wouldn’t buy another Samsung nor would I recommend one to my friends

I bought a Samsung side by side refrigerator approximately 5 yrs ago from Best Buy, and have had nothing but headackes since. It freezes up in and stops making ice, has never made much ice. Called for repairman while under warranty and even the repairman was stumped as to the problem. Now my dad had pulled the cover off on many occassions to defrost the coils in the back of the refrigerator, allowing it to make ice and cool for a couple of weeks or so and then freeze up again. At this time it has frozen up so much the plastic coil cover has been forced out and broke away from the back of the fridge plastic walls, tearing the screws loose and destroying the purpose of the cover, to direct the cool fan blown air around to cool the food, milk, etc. I’ve had to remove shelves and trays due to the ice pushing them out and not allowing the door to close. The ice maker has not worked for so long, I buy ice at the local store. Where’s the recall. This machine is a bunch of crap. How can they get away with selling this piece of junk without standing behind it. Sure they sent a repairman and he did work on it, I think, but it quite working as it was suppose too, and sure enough it went out of warranty, and they get away scott free. This is not just false advertisemen but down right theivery. My parents had a refrigerator they gave away to by a more modern model, not because it did’nt work, but because it was over 20 years old.

  • Heather August 17, 2011, 4:57 pm

We have experienced the same coil problem in our freezer. The freezer stopped making ice and got real cold..then everything began to warm up. The refrigerator says 36 degrees F on the display, but a thermometer we bought reads 44 degrees F. The freezer is even worse. The display reads -2 F, but the thermometer says 20 to 30 F. All of our meet is defrosting. The technician today states the part might be under warranty, but labor, mileage (90 miles) and shipping is not covered under the warranty! I am quoted ~ 800 – $1000. The appliance is 3 years old and it was not cheap – over $2000.

    • Greg August 17, 2011, 8:56 pm

We have the same problem as many. We have had Samsung repair guy out to fix without any success (spent approx $500 so far). We have been trying to fix since april. It seems to be cooling however temp constantly reads 88, ice builds up every 2 weeks under the meat/veggie crisper. Does anyone know who/how to fix the problem??

I purchased Samsung refrigrator RF267 AERS in May 2010 from Sears. The refrigrator had stoped working due to tthe build up of the frost and ice in the refrigrator and it has disabled the machin’s fan. It seems as this model also has the same malfunction as the series listed in the class lawsuit. I would like to discuss this further with the ;awers representing this lawsuits.

I had purchased a Samsung rs2533sw refrigerator in January 2011. It has had a couple of times that both evaporators have frozen over. This last time, I had to replace the fan on the freezer side and lost over 400 dollars worth of food. I need to know how to get into this lawsuit.

We have the same issue with a French door Samsung that we bought from Best Buy in December 2009. In May of 2011 (just past the warranty), the coils froze. We contacted a repairman who made a very expensive ($300+) repair. Now in September of 2011, the same thing happened again. It starts with some “clunking” from the fan and then the fan just quit altogether. Now the refrigerator has quit cooling at all and the Samsung repairman cannot be here for a week. There is absolutely no reason that a refrigerator should quit within 2 years. It is disgusting and Samsung should not get away with this.

I am also the unfortunate owner of a Samdung RF266 and have had nothing but problems since I bought it. Same issue as is discussed in this lawsuit and I want to know how to get in on it. A local appliance place even quit handling their products because of complaints. Samsung cust svc denies knowing anything about on-going problems or lawsuits. (Liar, Liar, pants on fire.) For the sake of your sanity, do not buy any product made by Samsung. I also had a Samsung TV that cratered after 3 years and repairman couldn’t even get parts. Then had to pay to get rid of it.

I bought my side by side Samsung from Costco in August 2006, model number RS2545SH/XAA. Within two months the ice maker stopped working. Had it fixed and within a week it stopped working again. I did NOT fix it again. At the end of my one year warranty the cooling system stopped working. I kept my old 1990 Whirlpool refrigerator and put it in the garage when I bought the Samsung. My old refrigerator works great, but it’s in the garage. The Samsung is in the kitchen and it doesn’t work at all. I have to take the doors off to move it. What a hassel. I am unable to afford to deal with it. I want to join the lawsuit. How do I do it? I want another refrigerator!

I bought the Samsung French door Model RFG297HDWP about three months ago and can I tell you how unhappy I am. Up to date 9-19-11 I have had trouble with the fridge not getting cold. A repair man came fiddled with it and said it was fixed. whatever it did didn’t work and I bought a themometer, hung inside and the temp was 40 degrees which is not cold enough. Also, the plastic cover covering the front controls fell off where I found it in the floor one morning. I called and a repair man came and glued it back on. Now it died completely and now I have to wait three days for a repairman. would love to junk this piece of crap but after spending almost $1600 dollars I don’t think I gotten my money’s worth. Now I’ll see what this repair man says when and if he comes. Do I recommend this samsung frig? Don’t think so!!!!!

This refri. is nothing but trouble for last 2 years.
Beside the big problem of coil freezing up and clogging the drain hole which result in water flowing on my kitchen floor, the drawers are too narrow to stay in their place and constantly we have to struggle to put them back in place.
called Samsung and they pretend that they have never heard of any of these issues.
I promise myself 2 years ago to never buy Samsung products again and so far I have not.
