Purchasers of Certain Neutrogena Sunscreen Products File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Johnson & Johnson and Neutrogena Over Possible Benzene Contamination.
On May 25, 2021, a class action lawsuit complaint was reportedly filed against Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc. and Neutrogena Corporation in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida, Ft. Lauderdale Division (styled Meredith Serota v. Neutrogena Corp. and Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Class Action Case No. 0:21-cv-61103 (S.D. FL.), alleging, among other things, that certain Neutrogena sunscreen products contained benzene, a known human carcinogen, and that the presence of benzene was not disclosed in the products’ label, allegedly in violation of state and federal law.
According to the J&J sunscreen class action lawsuit complaint, in 2020, Valisure LLC and ValisureRX LLC (“Valisure”), an analytical pharmacy, allegedly ran tests on a variety of Defendants’ Sunscreen Products and discovered that certain of the Sunscreen Products contained benzene, with values ranging from less than 0.1 parts per million (“ppm”), 0.10 ppm to 2 ppm, and more than 2 ppm.

The J&J Neutrogena sunscreen lawsuit is reportedly brought on behalf of the following putative class members:
All consumers who purchased any lotion or spray Neutrogena Sunscreen Product in the United States of America and its territories (excluding California) from May 25, 2017 to the present for personal use or consumption.
