DirecTV Sales Tax Class Action Lawsuit Complaint

DirecTV Customers File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against DirecTV Over Sales Tax Charges.

A class action lawsuit complaint was filed against DirecTV, Inc. (“DirecTV” or “Defendant”) in the Circuit Court of Jefferson County  Alabama (styled Bruce Pettway, Janet Thompson and Billy Taylor v. DirecTV, Inc., Case No. CV-2010-902454.00) alleging that DirecTV wrongfully charges a “sales tax” on transactions which are in fact rentals of the receivers by the subscribers and which instead should be subject to a “rental tax,” according to DirecTV class action lawsuit news reports.

The DirectTV class action lawsuit complaint reportedly alleges, among other things, that since DirecTV’s introduction of a lease program in March 2006, most receivers provided to its new and existing subscribers are leased (and that typically, the first receiver is provided free while each additional receiver is rented monthly for $5 by the subscriber).

The DirectTV Sales Tax class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of all individuals or entities that have paid sales and rental taxes collected by DirectTV as described in the class action lawsuit complaint and a Subclass of those customers who were and are charged taxes on the free first DirecTV receiver.

i heard there is a class action suit against direct tv regarding termination charges. We moved and the new place absolutely bans dishes. Direct tv is demanding over 400 dolars . I am on soc sec, and there is no way i can pay this. I have been sending them $10 each month, but they want it all at once and have sent my account to a collection agancy. I was happy with DTV,and was disappointed I could not continue with them. It was not my decision to stop services. Can anyone tell me how to contact someone about the class action suit?

I work at DISH Network and have been watching this unfold with anticipation. I find it unfortunate for the customers that, while DirecTV will be forced to pay this money, they will be raising the rates on their customers yet again in order to compensate for their losses. This means, by proxy, the customers have been double-billed for DirecTV’s mistakes and shady dealings. Also, when DirecTV pays the money, it won’t even go back to the customers directly, but will instead be disbursed to the individual state’s “Fraud Fund”. Poor deal all-around for DirecTV customers. If anyone is interested in starting with, or switching to, a company which better values their customers, try DISH.com and get the ball rolling.
