I own one of these refrigerators and am now having problems with Sears repairing it! The light has melted the light fixture and has fallen off! Can you tell me who to contact for this? Thank you, Marjorie Colehower

We own the refrigerator in question. We also has a problem with the light inside. It burned and left black smudges on the sides of the light.
Sears repaired the problem and the man told me that was a problem with that model. Can you contact me please.

Unable to pay for repairs. I had to unscrew the lights to shut them off. The heat from the light melted the light cover. Went back to the K Mart in Banning California where the refrigerator was purchased and I was told to go to San Bernardino to get a replacement part. The employee was not interested in the problem, there was no concern when I complained of the lights staying on, the cover melting and the freezer door handle always coming loose.

Due to the problems with the french door refrigerators by Kenmore, and the inconvenience to the customers, Sears and LG should repair the appliance with no charge to the customers. I use a flash light to see into the refrigerator since I unscrewed the light since it would not shut off.

We have a 21 month old LG french door refrigerator model no. LFC 21770 that accumulates a heavy layer of ice in the freezer bottom and leaks water. The icemaker does not shut off ! We find water on our hardwood floor each morning even if the freezer door was not opened. Hence the ruined wood floor. ( the water line does not leak!). Has anyone else had this problem?

We have a Kenmore Elite french door refrigerator and have experienced the same problem with the interior lights not going out when the doors are closed. I had started to smell a buring smell and touched the interior lights that were exteremely hot. We had to removed the light bulbs to prevent the plastic from melting. Sears needs to address this issue. We had purchased all Kenmore Elite appliances when we upgraded our Kitchen a few years ago and have had to repair the diswasher twice and now the refrigerator. This will be the last Sears appliance purchase if Sears doesn’t do something to address this issue – which I’m sure they won’t.

I have such refrigerator with the same light problem described by others PLUS other issues (below). This lawsuit won’t do me much good. All I have is a receipt for damaged parts which did not fix the problem. I think the problem is somewhere internal to the wiring that does the switching. Can’t find that part nor be able to install it. Too late to have a repair person do it and have it covered. As if it would fix it anyway. Other issues with the same model – door seals are chronic problem have had two or three replaced under warranty. Opposing seals still “tear” at each other, damaging each other and blocking closure. Ice maker does not shut off. The wire that is supp0sed to raise and shut off when full allows ice to flow out of the bucket when the freezer is opened. Repairman reshaped and replaced wire with parts from another frig. Better but not perfect. These are all design issues that should not fall to the consumer for correction considering the original cost of the appliance. Any comments, recommendations?

My Kenmore Elite French Door refrigerator just “cooked” all the food on the top shelf of my fridge!! I figured out it was the lights not turning off (after I threw out all my eggs, milk, cheese, etc.) and called a repairman. He told me it is a FLAW IN THIS REFRIGERATOR and repair should be covered by Sears.
Any ideas on how to get Sears to fix this????

Light stayed on melted top of light, called LG sent out a repair men, he said I should have checked the lights ever time I opened the door, after no help from appliance doctor, found out on internet my frig is recalled. Got in touch with LG, could only trade off refrigerator, not the same, bought a stainless steel one, the same thing has happened to this LG refrigerator. I will never buy another LG product, also will pass the word on everyone.

I hate my expensive LG, French Door Frig. The water spicket is too close to the unit. The ice is gray and does not freeze hard. The mother board went out after 1 1/2 years. Cost: $ 450.00 incl. repair.
Will only buy a BOSCH from now on!!!

My Kenmore Elite is doing the same light bulb problem…its on when refrigerator is closed and goes off when I open doors. Sears knows of this problem and they are in denial of it. It is well documented by owners. I refuse to pay for the repair but will continue to insist they repair it.

We have an LG bottom freezer refrigerator, Model LFD22860 that could have burned my house down. we were away for two days and when i came home i kept smelling burning, and a sort of electrical smell. That evening I got the butter out of the fridge and it was totally soft…Then i noticed that the lights were burning hot! The light housing is warped, the light bulb sockets are all brown, and there are bubbles in the top of the plastic fridge compartment. I would like to know why we were never notified about any problem? Had we been away for longer, our house could have burned down! I am going to call LG this morning.

  • Roy LeBeau May 3, 2015, 8:12 am

I woke up this morning to find that the light in our Kenmore Elite did not light when the door was opened. When I went to check the bulbs I noticed that the plastic cover was extremlely hot. After it cooled the light went on but did not shut off when the door was closed.
How would I get included in this lawsuit?

I have the same problem as many people. Interion lights not going out when the door is closed. I called for service, and repair men cam here yesterday, They quickly told me the repair kit to solve this problem was no longer available, Kenmore describes the life of the frig at 10 to 12 years old. They went on to give me a $150 bill for the service call. They literally did nothing. I would never buy a Kenmore frig again. Good luck with this dangerous problem.
