My 42pc3d LG failed at 6 yrs. It cost 2k at Best Buy. I’ll never buy another LG product and I’ll wage a one person anti LG campaign for life. (this is all consumers are left with to do because only auto manufacturers (who have much smaller profit margins) issue million unit recalls.

Same problem yes capacitors, theres actually a website called badcaps, the know its an issue they need to help us we payed alot of money for junk just think if you have to have someone repair your tv everyyear plus the cost of cable ,satilite or whatever your carrier is ,just curious on how many people really want to do something i know i didnt pay for my tv from working for a week thats for sure

  • Cindy Sidell August 11, 2011, 2:51 pm

I purchased a Samsung 48″ LCD TV in 2009. had some capacitors replaced under warranty and, immediately after the warranty expired, other capacitors went out. I paid $2,500 for the TV and replaced it after 18 months.

    • A.white August 15, 2011, 6:24 pm

Capacitors are easy to fix and cheap to buy if you know what you are doing. You shouldn’t have gone out and bout a new one

  • Joe October 24, 2011, 8:40 am

Ok, include my LG 42PX4D/42PX5D on the list. Loud pop — no sound!

  • Mike January 15, 2012, 4:18 pm

I have a LG 50PC5D Plasma that should also be included for the same issues. I just got off the phone with LG and I am being told that they cannot absorb the cost of repair because my set is out of warranty. My mention of the hundreds of other complaints I found of the same issues seemed to totally fall upon deaf ears. I told them I was going to opt in on the class action suit against them and they said they were unaware of such a suit. Please count me in, if it is not too late.

  • William Dowlding February 19, 2012, 5:48 pm

Why doesn’t this article tell us how we can join this class-action lawsuit? Isn’t that relevant?

  • John C. February 21, 2012, 8:45 pm

My 50″ Zenith/LG 720p Plasma also made the POD “Pop of Death” sound in late 2011 and apparently this is a widespread, known issue that LG has not taken responsibility for. In fact they are in denial about this. My set had less that 2,000 hours on it over a period of 3 years. If you read many only forums (do a Google search for pop of death, popping sound) and there are quite a few hundred posts about the Popping sound and either the screen fading or going black. Reading through some of the threads the problem for most has to do with a number of issues including faulty X and or Y boards, improper voltage, etc. Many of us spent upwards of $2,500 of our hard earned money for a state-of-art faulty Plasma TV.

I contacted LG and after much hassle they caved in to pay for parts but they would not cover labor repairs which would would cost any where from $400-$600 alone (just bought a new Samsung 50″ 3D TV with 4 pairs of glasses for $600). LG should replace or refund buyers of these defective sets. I will never buy a LG branded product or any TV that LG supplies panels for again.

Lastly, I also spoke with one law firm in October 2011 which appeared to be gathering information and evidence for a case against LG but they were not upfront with me about which LG/Zenith TV sets and defects they were particularly looking to represent.

My cheap $200 Emerson 20″ color TV still is working after 20 years. Now I have a huge and heavy LG Plasma paper weight sitting around and I’m not sure what to do with it. If there is a class action law suit – count me in and keep me informed. I hope others never have to go through this again!

I have a 55LD520, 15 months old, and it shut off yesterday and will not turn back on. It flashes “LG” and then goes black again. LG service, after a 75 minute phone call with 4 reps, basically said “too bad” it was our problem. LG products seem to work well until just past the warranty problem. Are they programmed this way? This is the 2nd LG we had the same problem with, the first one was a 42-inch.

  • Craig Butler (south africa) March 8, 2012, 3:22 am

Screen went blurry / faded and sharp white line on top.
My LG 501KTRT00038 just cost me R1350,00 to repair the y sustain pc board.
Not impressed as this television cost me R19 995,00 – thats around $3000
    a few year back.
Not impressed to dish out cash to repair.

  • Kevin Knick March 11, 2012, 6:20 pm

I bought a LG Plasma 6 years ago. It stopped working at 5 years old. This television cost $2,500. and then just started “popping” when you turned it on and automatically turn itself off. You could play with it and get it to stay on after turning it on and off (with the “pop”) for 15 or 20 minutes and finally we couldn’t even get to come on at all. We are upset and disappointed to say the least. Something this expensive should last longer than a few years!

    • ladonna evelyn May 19, 2012, 8:26 am

Same identical problem as Kevin Knick posted on March 11,2012. TV just started popping when you turn it on and automatically turns itself off (with the pop). You have to repeat turn on attempts several times before it eventually turns on. It is likely only a matter of time before it will not come on at all.

I have a 42LC7D with the same problems as most people. Power on light flashes 6 to 14 times but picture never comes on and no sound.
Is the law suit ongoing? If so please add my name to the list.

  • Tim W March 26, 2012, 8:45 pm

I purchased a LG 50PG20 model plasma Tv 3 years ago for $1350 and the bottom y-drive board went out at the end of 3 years, and also the ribbon from the top y-drive board came loose from the panel, After speaking with LG about this issue they agreed to supply the parts if I would pay $150 labor. I advised the LG service person that I did’nt want to spend very much money on labor on this tv since I had already paid $1350 for it and could buy a new one for $700 at this time, and futhermore a tv costing that amount should last more than 3 years. I read online that these tv’s have a heat issue that cause alot of problems. The manufacturer don’t put cooling fans inside in order to release some of the heat build up. LG is aware of this and they still refuse to do anything about it or help the customer in anyway.I agreed to pay the $150 for labor, if they would supply the parts. After LG found out from the repair technician which they provided whom was 100 miles from my location, that the panel would have to be replaced also, at that time LG refused to keep their word and supply the parts.I had always spoke highly of LG, but after this incident, I will not purchase another LG product. I also own a Visio led tv and they sent a repairman to my house and replaced the mainboard no questions asked, and I purchased it used!!! Vizio from now on for me over LG.

  • Sanjay J March 30, 2012, 1:16 pm

I have LG plasma 42″ TV(42PX5D-UB) which I bought in 2006. One day it just made a POP sound & the picture died. The channel can be changed but no picture. Its been there since then. The repair costs are very high & possibly I can buy better brand & tv at that price. It worked 4 -5 yrs which is less than what it claims of thousands of hours. I paid 3.5K at that time for this one of the best tv

  • Eric March 30, 2012, 5:25 pm

Last night…POP! No picture, just sound. I paid 1700.00 for this tv at Circuit City 6 yrs ago. Now I see all these all to common complaints. NEVER WILL I BUY LG ANYTHING AGAIN!!!

  • Mike April 1, 2012, 5:26 pm

I just found one of the listed models. I have sound but no picture, and repair seemed likely from what technical articles I’ve read… But what I’ve just read here is disturbing. Although I can get replacement parts cheaply enough to justify keeping this “rescue” I’ve found just given-away, and I feel I can do the repairs –checking voltages & swapping boards–as I’ve read how to, this article has me rethinking it all… as to if in the long-run it’s worth the effort & even the reduced cost.

  • Scott April 6, 2012, 12:00 pm

I own an LG 42″ Plasma model 42PC3D and I never had a problem until last week when the picture went black. My TV is wall mounted, but I was able to unplug and replug all wires, etc. to the TV. No improvement. Sound is fine, but nothing to see. Sound familiar? I bought the TV 5 and 1/2 yrs ago (at over $2000), and of course my warranty was for 5 years. When I researched online and discovered all of the complaints about the same issue, I was furious. I remember being angry that the price went down (nearly in half) about 6 months after I bought the TV. That is nothing compared to how angry I am today. I called LG and they are apparently not aware of any lawsuit involving this or any of their TV products. They were not willing to help me in any way. Since I had bought the extended warranty, they said there was nothing they could do for me(…so I shouldn’t have bought extended warranty???). The customer service agent agreed that he would be upset if his $2k TV died after such a short time, so I asked him to pass my information to his supervisors and let them know they should contact me. I have made it clear that LG will no longer appear in any way, shape or form in my house! Perhaps a complete boycott of their products by all of us will do the trick. So…can anyone tell me what TV I SHOULD buy as a replacement?

  • Paul April 8, 2012, 8:49 pm

I bought the Zenith Plasma 50″ TV from Circuit City and the extended warranty for 5 years. One day the tv made a loud popping sound and there was no picture but it had sound. The tv was out of warranty five days pass the expiration date LG would not do anything about it . I will never buy any products made by LG again.

  • jonny April 11, 2012, 8:37 pm

ive got a 42pc3d a with no picture!!!!! this tv cost me 1900$ plus tax!!! This is outrageous. I want action!

  • Daniel April 23, 2012, 11:38 am

Hope this includes the Zenith 50″ plasma. Same POP issue as everyone else. Has been sitting in my closet for 4 years now.

  • Neda May 15, 2012, 5:33 pm

I bought a 50 inch plasma LG TV sept of 2009 and the screen is black, It only has audio but no video. Can I be added to the class action lawsuit or do I sue them myself?

  • Inez Guereca May 18, 2012, 8:37 pm

First I had the LG 55LD520 for a little over a year. The power supply went out and LG actually fixed it 2 months out of warranty. now 6 months later the tv wont turn on again. The power indicator comes on bu the screen just flashes LG. this is some bullshit. I put in a claim but I doubt that LG will do anything. fingers crossed so we will see

    • Raymond Hillman August 6, 2012, 12:18 am

This is the truth if LG wont stand behind their products then why should we purchase them come on when I called they gave me a hard time about my Proof Of Purchase. They know their product is bad just admit it and fix it. I had bought a Canon camcorder once and I had an issue with the screen not working I went on the website and foudn that it was an issue that they were aware of and with no warranty or Proof Of Purchase they fixed my camera. This is when a company stands behind what they put out. If LG is having the same complaints then there is something wrong with theier product why should we pay to have it fixed when we spend THOUSANDS of our hard earned money. I would understand if these were isolated incidents.

  • Greg June 1, 2012, 3:36 am

I wish I new about this earlier because my 50 inch plasma LG model number 50PC3D falls in this lawsuit action. Been having all these problems with a 2000 dollar tv, never again LG!!!

  • Roger L. Reece July 23, 2012, 5:41 pm

Add me to lawsuit I have a 50 inch Plasma LG Just over a year old. My TV clicks off and on and never turns on.

  • Chris July 26, 2012, 5:01 pm

I’ve had problems with this LG 42PC3D T.V. ever since I bought it. I had it fixed under warranty once, than 2 months after my warranty ran the T.V. went out again. I called LG and they told me there was nothing they could do because the T.V. was out of warranty, so I paid $500 to fix it. The repair guy said the Y board went out. One year later the T.V. went out again and it’s going to cost $350 to fix the Y board again. This is a defective product and we should be compensated accordingly. How do I join this law suit???

  • Richard LaPrairie August 14, 2012, 11:04 pm

Just purchased a new 42″ LG Plasma. Plugged it in, turned it on and it looks great. Had the TV cable installed. Plugged the cable in and blew the main breaker in the house. This is not supposed to happen! Something internal has to be improperly wired. This is not even in warranty!

I am in Guinea West Africa and there is no Best Buy here.

  • Wesley Weddington October 23, 2012, 5:33 pm

How do I get on this Lawsuit.Purchased a LG50PG20c About 2 years ago n last night while I was watching TV “PUFF” the Picture just Blacked Out but I still Had Sound.Spent Way Too Money and was hoping to get Something Back..

  • Robert Feiblemanrdfeibleman November 12, 2012, 10:08 pm

I just replaced 6 capacitors, $15 and two hours time. Thanks to the web and YouTube, great instructions. Best part, it worked!

  • Tanya Rique November 13, 2012, 8:23 pm

Just happen to have the 37LC2D, and am having the same problem as most, POP and then nothing! I am so disappointed with LG. We paid $1100 four years ago, after 33 days our TV went out and they would not replace it. A tech was sent out with no cost, and had so called, fixed it. We were furious that they would not just replace the TV then, but it worked up until 6 months ago. I argued with LG about it for several days, and in the end they refused to do anything about the junk that they sold us. We took it to a repair tech almost 3 weeks ago that replaced the power supply unit. Everything has worked fine until 47 minutes ago, and guess what. . .
You got it POP and there went my picture! I guess we just wasted another $200 for our repair.
I would love to be a part of this. I hate feeling like I have been taken advantage of.

  • mike ruth November 16, 2012, 5:06 pm

I bought two Zenith 50 inch plasma tvs Back in 2008 I put one in the bedroom and one of the family room. The bedroom TV blew up about six months ago And now the other one started to act up. I bought a new power board installed it myself And it worked. I bought capacitors For the next one at $20 versus $186 for the power board. I need some compensation for all this aggravation

  • Glenn Perry January 4, 2013, 1:34 pm

I purchase a LCD 42LD50 and 4 years later it does not work. LG will not do a thing about this and from reading it is a very common issue. Power light blinks red, black screen. I paid $1500 for this tv and they wont do a thing about this, I can promise this is my last LG purchase.

  • Glenn Perry January 4, 2013, 1:55 pm

Does anyone know how to get involved in this class action lawsuit?

my 50pk750 – 50″ plasma, wireless – was $1000 and lasted 2 years and the screen went out. Repaired it for $400, but lasting only 2 years is way unacceptable.

  • Stephen Brooks January 15, 2013, 2:04 am

I bought this tv 11/26/2012, today is 1/19/2013 and my lg55ls4500 LCD has blacked out completely. It started two days ago, picture blacking out but sound still on. It would come back on after switching the set back on and off again. I called lg and they said they would send someone out. I expressed my dissatisfaction as this set is not even a few mos old. I asked the representative if this was a common problem and he said mmm. At which point i asked him if that was a yes. He then replied “yes”. Going to try and return this obvious headache. Wish me luck.

how can i join this class action lawsuit against LG Television

  • Michael Wagner January 31, 2013, 8:31 pm

I would like to be included in this lawsuit. I have a 60 inch 1080p Plasma
television. That was purchased November 26 2011 and started to lose color or change colors as well as having a 4-5 inch line rolling up the screen. I have contacted LG service center on numerous occasions and each time I get a new consumer service person who gives me different information wrong information or has no idea that there was a problem even after I gave then the case number. In my mind these are strategic tactics by the LG corporation to wear down the consumer so that those individual give up or find another avenue to find a solution. These tactics are designed to give the LG corporation the upper hand as well as force the consumer to jump through multiple hoops in and endless quest for a solution.

  • Phoenx February 1, 2013, 5:30 am

This is ridiculous…How bout this site offering or sharing or advising all these consumers some sort of direction/info. as to what we can do about this widespread issue with the blackouts of LG TV’s????

What’s the point…if no options for resolve???

    Please? Step up and ADVISE……..

Wow, after reading a few I do not feel so bad. My husband picked up a small LED Screen TV a year ago. He only has about 20 hours on it and it no longer works. Our type of phone would not allow me to call the Canadian phone number, I tried the chat on line but could not get anywhere with it, not user friendly. Tried to email but got blocked after reaching a certain point on their questionnaire. Never again.

2 yrs and a few days after buying an LG 60PZ950 via Amazon I too heard what I thought at the time was a static crack from the speakers and had my screen go black. Reading these articles I see it was the “pop of death” that so many people have reported.

Wondering why the class action was restricted to just the LC and PC models when its clear from all these posts that a lot of other LC ranges have had the same problem…

Law360, New York (August 21, 2012, 8:15 PM ET) — A New Jersey federal judge on Tuesday threw out a putative class action alleging LG Electronics Inc. knowingly made and sold defective LCD and plasma televisions with substandard components that cut short the expected life of the TVs.
U.S. District Judge Jose L. Linares held that the complaint failed to allege facts to sufficiently support any of its claims, which included breach of express and implied warranties, state consumer fraud violations, fraud and intentional misrepresentation and unjust enrichment.

I found this site, filled it out, and am waiting to see the specifics. I have a Zenith 50′ Z50PV220 that was bought new from Sears in 2009ish. Obviously out of warranty, but with the 100s or complaints listed here and on other sites, ITS OBVIOUS THERE IS SOME LIABILITY OF LG/ZENITH. My unit did the same pop then blank as EVERYONE ELSE and upon looking for a fix for my TV I discovered this Classaction suit. I am waiting to see if I QUALIFY NOT TO STOLEN FROM OR NOT. http://www.bigclassaction.com/lawsuit/lg-tv-class-action-defective-lcd-plasma-tvs.php

We purchased a LG plasma tv in December of 2012. Last night it turned itself off and when I turned it back on it immediately shut back off. Now it won’t turn on at all! I contacted LG support this morning and was told they would charge me $90 to have someone come out and diagnose it plus have to pay for any repairs. I used the model number to research the TV and appearently this model has been well know to have defective power supplies that crash just after the warranty expires.

I have an LG 55LD520 and the system is failing after about 3 years. Symptoms include picture freezing up, distorted boot-up screen, auto-reboots, remote unresponsive, side buttons on system unresponsive. Audio is not affected and continues even when video is frozen or distorted. Holding down the power button on the side of the unit for about 7-10 seconds seems to force a reboot. Sometimes this resolves the problem after a few attempts making it seem that once the failing component warms up a bit the failure temporarily gets “resolved”. After the unit runs without issues for 20 minutes, it will run flawlessly all day long. The next day, from a cold start, the same failure routine is back. Really sad when an appliance that you expect to last 10-15 years, fails in about 3.

I have a 42″ LG Plasma (model 42PC1D) that I have had for only 8 years and I just experienced the “Pop of Death.” I too will not buy another LG set considering all of the negative hits I have researched on the Internet… LG should do something to rectify this issue.

Other wise I would have purchased another brand.

My LG 47LM6700 3D tv have the same problem. Sound but no picture. Not even two year old. After doing much research I’m frustrated that there are so many complaints about this defects and LG is not doing anything about it. Please include me in the lawsuit. This is unacceptable.

I have a problem with my 50pc3db-ue I can turn my TV on and it will stay on for about 30 seconds and then it turns its self off. From what I have read on line this is a big problem with the zenith TVs.

  • edwin centeno April 21, 2015, 2:04 am
