H&R Block Express IRA Class Action Settlement

If You Have Ever Opened an H&R Block Express IRA, You Could Get a Cash Payment or Other Benefits From a Class Action Settlement.

A class action settlement has been reached in a lawsuit pending against H&R Block, Inc., H&R Block Financial Advisors, Inc., and HRB Tax Group, Inc. (formerly H&R Block Services, Inc.) pending in the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri (captioned In re H&R Block, Inc. Express IRA Marketing Litigation, MDL No. 1786) alleging that H&R Block promoted and sold Express IRAs to its tax preparation customers as a good way to save money and earn interest, but the low rate of interest paid on Express IRAs and the various fees charged on the accounts (H&R Block allegedly charged customers a fee to open the Express IRA, a recurring fee to keep it open, and a fee to put more money into the account) meant customers often lost money on their investments, according to the H&R Block Express IRA Class Action Settlement Notice.

The H&R Block Express IRA class action settlement reportedly provides, among other things, that H&R Block will provide up to $19.4 million to pay all H&R Block class member claims, costs of notice and claims administration, and civil fines, penalties, and fees to certain state authorities.

The H&R Block Express IRA class action settlement also reportedly provides, that Express IRAs were converted to H&R Block Easy IRAs, which carries fewer Program Fees, and that (subject to the approval of the U.S. Office of Thrift Supervision and any other government regulator) any such fees that are not charged to Easy IRA account holders will not be reintroduced for at least five years after the settlement is deemed final.

My mom and Step-Dad have about 5 of these with 500.00 each. they actually kept opening a new express ira year after year until they stopped doing them. I kept telling them why isn’t it going into the same one so they would have some money when they retired and they too were putting money into it from their check.
They are both deceased now and I know the 2,500 is just gone they don’t want to pay the rightful owners of these accounts they aren’t going to pay the beneficiaries for sure.
