I had a loan with Benificial Financial/Household Financial from 10/2002 thru 3/2007. I kept telling them I had over paid, they made threats to foreclose if I did’t make another payment every time they would call, so I would and send them copies my cancelled checks and bank drafs, nothing was ever done and they kept putting lates on our credit report. After we paid the loan off I went thru our bank statements and found we over paid them more than $20,000.00. I hired a lawyer who sent BF/HF two letters than refused to pursue the case any further. I don’t know what else to do. I’m on dissability and can’t afford to pay a lawyer up front.

in 2007, i was given a mortgage through HFC. they also conned me into a 15,000.00 revolving credit to improve the house. the percent om the mortgage was 11.33% and i was told that after 1 year, they would refinance me to lower my payments. with in 1 year, they closed shop. now they won’t even work with me. i applied fro assiatance but was denied. i turned them in the NYS Banking Association and they came out smelling like a rose. i was scammed and lied to.

They need to be stop and we all who are in the same pool drowning need to find a lawyer who can help us stop this bullying. I dont mind paying my mortgage I just don’t like them lying all the time just so they can get more money from me.My interest is at 11.33% also and the promised me the same results as alot of people just to threating us with foreclosure well I can get a rent for a 1/3rd of what I’m paying them

We also took out a loan from HFC and even though we had equity they would only give us a revolving loan, and the remainder of the loan was a 2nd mortgage. which we too were supposed to refinance. I took money from my 401k to keep theloan from going in default, because in essence instead of having one loan we had two. received another set of loan papers in the mail that was much more favorable and the money they stated we got we did not get, so who did? When we questioned them about it we kept getting the run around. We we eventually ended up filing chapter 13. we received a letter informing us of a class action against HFC. So all of the people that was treated unfairly damaged credit ect. needs to be compensated for they have rode the backs of hard working people far too long. Just Do the Right Thing!!!

I received a letter from Household Bank Credit Card stating “a change of address was processed on your Household Bank Credit Card Account within the last 60 days”. It told me to call 800-. When I called, the operator I talked to let it slip out that there had never been an attempt to change my address, then went into a sales pitch for Identity Protection Plan. Looking back at the letter, the bottom even talks about the Identity Protection Plan. So, the letter is an obvious fraud (no attempt to change my address), but was simply a marketing tool. I believe this is false advertising.
Just some simple “panic” when they tell you in the letter (which I still have) that there was an attempt on the account. The letter further stated “A change of address that you did not authorize may be an early sign of identity theft.” There is no need to cause people to stress over this.

HFC mortgage has played games with my mortgage payments since day one. They will post a house payment to principle to show a late payment and then tack on extraordinary fees. This is EXTORTION!! Where can i pursue them legally? No attorney in indiana will take them on….they arent even licensed to broker mtgs in indiana…brought in an outside notary from another state!!
    HELP!! CURRENTLY FACING FORECLOSURE.

I am a resident of NC and I lost my house after building it brand new due to misinformation and untruths in making a 2nd mortgage without me knowing it when signing papers. I also in May of 2010 called and found my call being answered overseas Hong Kong? and was told we are not giving any help to refinance homes. My house was only 2months behing. I ended up in deed in lieu and foreclosure. My husband and I were devastated. Can I file suit against them or can I be added to a class action suit. Justice should be served. All these stories are the same.

I would really like to learn more about this lawsuit. I was foreclosed on in Nov. 2009. Household wouldn’t work with me at all, even sent back partial payments, said I didn’t qualify for a hardship loan modification. While we were moving out, they sent people in to clean the place out even though we had another week to get out according to the notice we received from the police dept. When I called them about it, they told me it was the lawyer representing them that must of made the error, he said he was told to clean it out, and I could file a lawsuit against them but it would be a waste of my time. Please contact me back, this is the first I’ve heard of any lawsuit against them, never received a letter.

Please forward me any information regarding to a class action lawsuit against HFC. They are harrassing and now showing that after 9 + years of automatic payments I have increased my loan amount??? This is rediculous, they are giving us the run around and we have NEVER received any paperwork or anything. These people call us 15-20 times a day. Please help!!!!

  • N. Merrill January 1, 2013, 12:56 am

Household finance also wouldnt do a hardship for me or a motification so now January 3, 2013 i will lose my family home thats been in the family over 60 years. They dont care. its always the mighty dollar. Sure we had some hardships , but know things are better and we can afford the house but do they care? NO so now some stranger will buy my home. i regret the day we ever went to HFC.

  • JUDY January 28, 2013, 12:56 pm

I got a mortgage with HFC and was told that if I made my payments on time after 6 months my interest would be lowered. After 6 months when I tried to get in touch with them I was told that the business had closed down. I was told everything would b handled with their company in Florida. I called them to ask about lowering my interest and they told me I was not in the program. I was also told they would help me by automatically taking payments out every other Friday, however there are about two months in the year when the Fridays appear three times. When I explain that I could not afford the third payment in the month. They told me there was nothing they could do about it. Right now my interest rate is around $900 and the principle is only $200, I am never going to get my loan down this way! They are ripoffs!!!!!!

    • brian February 15, 2013, 7:42 pm

I got a second with hfc in 2003 we fell behind four years after we had the loan. we were behind 2 months they told me if i would get current all would be fine. we did and next thing we knew they sent our account to an attorney where its been ever since. we make payments they never go down , we never get a statement unless we ask for. one month when we got a statementit said we owed 19,000 dollars and two months latter we got one said we owed 21,000 dollars. i am tired of paying these idiots we have had this loan 10 years we borrowed 20,000 dollars and still owe 20,000 dollars. i would love to nail these guys. is there a class action suit against these guys? if so sign me up.

We have had some of the same issues. Most recently we requested a payoff balance their rep told us to send the written request by mail. It was returned undeliverable. I called with no positive answers over the phone with about 3 attempts, I finally went to the website and noticed that they have a link to request payoff information or make a request , so I had to re-enter the info about 4 times before it finally accepted my request and we received it in the mail. As shocking as it may seem we got this loan in 2004 and the payoff was higher than it stated on the original loan documents. There is something terribly wrong with HFC’s retention of information obviously. I am trying to find a Real Estate Attorney and maybe they will be willing to follow up on this matter, as it appears I am not alone. I find it interesting that HFC is no longer providing mortgages and since the local branches have closed, they have no forms of officially answering the questions clients have as it relates to the original loan agreement. Do they have everything we were provided when these loans originated or are they making up figures to be as close as possible?

  • Betty Palmer March 22, 2013, 3:54 pm

I borrowed money from HFC and I was paying the loan just fine and a company called me and told me that they could help me with the loan just send them the money each and they would put it into an account and they would negociate for me with the loan co. and I was not to say anything to the Co. that they would take care of it. Well they not do anything , they did save the money for me and I was taken to court ,I paid tthem the money wsa able to pay it up , but they still placed a lein on some property that I have.

  • Rhuana April 4, 2013, 12:12 pm

I am in the process of defending myself against a foreclosure complaint by Beneficial Financial I Inc. and looking for other people that have attempted to get a mortgage modification and after agreeing to a “trial 6 month loan modification” and was told that “if you completed the 6 month trial and made all the payments on time the trial would become a permanent mortgage modification and the payment would be the same as the 6 month trial payment”, only to successfully complete the “trial” and discover that Beneficial would not be honoring their promise to make the “trial payment” permanent.

IF THIS HAPPENED TO YOU I NEED TO KNOW AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! PLEASE ADD YOUR STORY TO THIS THREAD!

I am currently trying to defend myself in this foreclosure but IF I CAN FIND ENOUGH PEOPLE THAT HAVE BEEN THROUGH THE SAME TYPE OF WRINGER AS I HAVE I WILL DO MY BEST TO START A CLASS ACTION COMPLAINT.

IF YOU ARE WILLING TO PROVIDE A SWORN AFFIDAVIT THAT I CAN USE TO SHOW THIS WAS A STANDARD PRACTICE OF HSBC/BENEFICIAL etc… Please let me know via this thread how to contact you and make sure you are included in any future class action.

YOUR EXPERIENCE WITH HSBC, BENEFICIAL, HFC DOES NOT HAVE TO BE EXACTLY LIKE MINE SO JUST TELL US HOW YOU WERE MISLED BY REPRESENTATIVES OF THIS COMPANY. I AM LOOKING FOR BAD FAITH ON THE PART OF HSBC, BENEFICIAL ETC…

    THANKS
    Steve

HFC promised a lower payment and lower interest after 2 years, but when we went back, they were gone. They sold the equity line of credit (that they insisted we take) and now are foreclosing on the property. Can we get them to stop, can anyone help?

My husband and I refinanced our house in 1998 with HFC to pay off our farming debts after we had a couple of bad crop years. No one else would finance us but HFC did, at 14% interest. LIke most of you, they told we could refinance in a year or two if we made the payments on time. I’ll be totally honest and admit we got behind several times on our payments and even had some insufficient funds checks returned and, at first, HFC seemed very helpful, letting us “pay the interest” on payments and putting the principal “at the end of the loan.” What we were not told was that the payments were racking up interst at the rate of 14%. Also not mentioned were late fees, which were not even stated in our mortgage. I tried for over a year to get a summary of what payments we had made and how they had been applied. I finally got it a couple months ago and can’t make heads or tails of it. I never got any statements from HFC telling us how much we still owed until yesterday; when I got a statement that we owe $28,782.50 in pricipal and $10,612.06 in deferred interest. Also $709.97 for Advances, whatever that is. We now owe $40,104.53 on a $45,000 loan that we have been paying on for 15 years. I know we weren’t the best when it came to making our payments but this is still so wrong. I would gladly enter into a class action suit against them. Just tell me what I need to do.

    • Honey October 7, 2014, 9:03 pm

I have the same story. I borrowed 13k in2007. To date I owe 20k. I pay monthly 330. Now they transferred my loan to Springleaf financial who are not willing to refinance either. I will be more than happy to do a class action suit. I am even willing to go to Washington d.c. and picket with some one to take notice to this insanity.

  • Sandra January 12, 2014, 1:35 am

I too went to household in 2006 for a home loan thinking it was better than my current bank. NOOO it was NOT I was totally mislead and told to sign a paper that I made emore $ per month that was NOT true. We endend up loosing our home due to their crappy and predatory lending practice all they wanted was to seal a loan they did not care about homeowner

  • Willie and Roswitha Evans October 2, 2014, 4:30 pm

Household Finance doing the same to us, when we first got the Loan for our House we were told that Insurance, property Taxes all was included in the Loan, after we sign’d all the papers we found out it was all a lie and we ended up paying our own Insurance every month our own Property Taxes every year and we still do as of right now. We filed complaints and the Guy who did our Loan ended up in Prision. Then we where told that after 15 yrs. most of our money will go towards principle not Interest, well guess what they still take most of our money for Interest and only alittle bit goes towards our principle. So my husband called them up to find out what was going on????…I thought after 15 yrs. we finally can pay off our house because you won’t charge us all that Interest anymore? You know what they told him…..Oh,no this is not that type of Loan! So we paying for a House now we may never pay off due to all these Lie’s??????We need Help! Its supposed to be paid off in 30 yrs. but they are taking all our money for Interest and still do!

I am in tears as I am reading about everyone’s experiences. Mine is similar. I am about to lose my home of 20 years due to Beneficial going back on promises to me, applying my payments to interest only, and threatening to foreclose on me. I am a nervous wreck and can’t stop crying. They will not even try to help and I do not have extra money to try to hire an attorney. Will filing bankruptcy keep me out of foreclosure? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Please email me at: CranberryJuiceLover@yahoo.com

I as well have had a huge problem with household finance. My husband and I took out a loan for 36,841.00 back in 2003, we refinanced in 2004 with our primary bank which combined both debits together so we had one payment. hhf was paid off, a payoff letter was sent to us. Then a yea later we went back to hhf 10,000.00 revolving credit line we had been paying on it on time, they wee posting our payment to the closed account, I became ill in 2007, taken out of work in 2008 requested a modification due to hardship which was granted, our primary mortgage went into default while waiting for a modification, went through a divorce and a lein still on the property and the collection co. keeps calling saying I owe 53,000.00!!! how when the loan was for 10,000.00!!! I feel for all of us in this situation!! I will fight for my home and fight that no one else is subjected to being scammed by banks and lending institutions as hhf. Please contact me !!

  • GMorris April 15, 2015, 9:38 am

Yes, I see I’m not the only one that has fallen into this hole of a misfortune. I sure wish someone would do something about Household Finance. Their interest rates are ridiculous and it makes it very hard to live without filing bankruptcy and even then I don’t know if you will ever be rid of them. Even bankruptcy is forgiven after 7 years and the debt is cleared from the credit report. I am very sorry that I ever borrowed from them . Is there anyone out there that help us?

  • Allison April 26, 2015, 11:34 am

Is there anyone out here who can help us??? Are there any mortgage companies willing to refinance us so we can get away from Beneficial??? Any Attorneys who can help???

  • John Schneider May 12, 2015, 9:44 am

If there is anyone filing a Class Action against Beneficial I am in, These liars and cheats told me that if I did Bi Monthly “EASY PAY” I would pay my loan off faster, which I had heard about with reputable lenders, I thought Cool, but what I didnt know that after years of paying this way, they were Holding the Payment not applying it to the loan until they received the Second payment! So they were earning interest on my money while charging me interest on the Loan! WHen Is some Going to do something about this company! I am calling my congressman today! I want to Find Out who is the CEO, we need to EXPOSE THESE CRIMINALS !! Yeah and they have all kinds of ways to screw us over. when is it there turn. I am also very concerned about a balloon payment and how they are taking people houses who have made every payment on time. its something about how you have to pay the loan off in Ten Years, while they have it set up for 30 I am scared !
