Samsung Refrigerator Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Filed Over Alleged Frozen Coil Defect

Samsung Refrigerator Owners File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Samsung Over Alleged Defect That Causes Refrigerator Coils To Freeze Over.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (hereafter “Samsung” or “Defendants”) in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (styled Jeff Weske, Jo Anna Frager and Darryl Myhre v. Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Civil Action Case No. 2:10-cv-04811-WJM -MF) alleging, among other things, that Samsung sold refrigerators containing a defect that causes the refrigerators’ coils to freeze over, resulting in the failure of the refrigerator to cool, which has caused consumers to suffer damages for lost groceries, spoilage and repairs, according to class action lawsuit news reports.

The Samsung refrigerator class action lawsuit complaint reportedly alleges that certain Samsung French door, side-by-side and bottom freezer refrigerators (model numbers RF266AASH, RS263BBWP, RB1955SH, RS2533SW, RS267LASH, RS267TDRS, RS2630WW) the refrigerators are designed and manufactured with heated coils that are intended to prevent excess frost from developing in the back of the machine, but instead of preventing frost, the coils allegedly allow frost and ice to build up in the refrigerators until the ice clogs and/or disables the machine’s fans, making it impossible for the fans to work to keep the machine cool.

The Samsung refrigerator coil class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of the following putative class members, unless otherwise excluded:

All persons or entities residing in the United States who own, or have owned, Samsung refrigerator models RF266AASH, RS263BBWP, RB1955SH, RS2533SW, RS267LASH, RS267TDRS, RS2630WW and/or any other Samsung refrigerator model containing a defect that causes the refrigerator’s coils to ice over and the refrigerator to stop cooling.

The Fridge side Freezes up and makes awful & loud thru out the day & night. Fills cool but not cold. I have lost about $230 in grocery cost. We now have to store our food in our HOT POINT Fridge that is more then 30 years old. Model RS267 Samsung bought July 5 2007, works for a day or so, or as long as there is no food in the fridge. The coils freeze about every 3-4 weeks and now the Freezer fan is over working cause alot of noise & very loud 24 7. It has been repaired a couple of times. The problem continues. PLEASE INCLUDE ME IN THE LAW SUIT.

I have a RF267ABRS/XAA which I bought at Sears. The refrigerator collects water and ice below the drawer at the bottom of the refrigerator. I had called Samsung on a couple of occasions to complain that the water was running out of the refrigerator. They asked me what temperature the refrigerator was set at. It is set at factory spec of 38 degrees no mention of a possible plugged drain hole. After removing ice and water repeatedly from bottom of fridge I called Samsung for repair. Canceled what would have cost $135 minimum to have tech come out and defrost and no mention of final cost. Previous post have stated costs of $400 and more. I am going to fix it myself. I reviewed this video on how to remove panel and thaw youtube.com/watch?v=l5y0CqH09kU. Please add me to the class action suit. Samsung has a defective product!

Water in bottom of refrigerator. Recommended fix from Samsung affiliate repair shop was $375. I purchased and 8$ part and 35 minutes later had it repaired. Samsung will not respond to my inquiries on their site or Facebook.

Mark Whalen stated .in his comment Oct.15 2013 that he purchased a 8$ .part and it repaired his refrigerator. Will he please inform us of the part bought and how repairs were made. Thanks.

  • Jaime Lynne Powell October 17, 2013, 12:35 pm

We bought our Samsung refridgerater 1yr and a half ago. Model #RF263AFWP and we are also having the same problem. How do I become a part of this lawsuit? Very upsetting when you pay good money for appliances!!!

    Thanks

I also have a Samsung Refrigerator that is doing the same thing we have only had it for 5 years and once a week I have to take it apart and defrost it manually I contacted Samsung three different times and they do nothing about it..I feel that this refrigerator is junk and we will never buy Samsung appliances again

    • Dusty December 4, 2013, 4:05 pm

We have a RB 217ABPN, RB 217 series, what a piece of work it is. This junk has cost us a lot of money to replace food it has destroyed, not to mention defrosting the thing every 3 weeks. That’s exactly what i’m doing right now. Samsung should be held responsible for there cooling nightmare. Dusty

  • mary beth baltzell October 18, 2013, 10:59 pm

  • Shelley powers October 21, 2013, 1:01 am

Please add me to the lawsuit. 2 yrs old fridge, coils freezing up, plugging drain hole, water under deli drawer and freezes shut. Hate this fridge!

  • Howard Story October 23, 2013, 4:10 pm

My Samsung Refrigerator is a piece of junk!!!!! It is Model #RF217ACWP and is about 2 1/2 years old. It has been nothing but trouble. The first thing to go was the ice maker. Now the frig freezes up every two weeks. I have spent 100’s of dollars trying to get this thing fixed, not including all the food that has been ruined. It has had 4 new parts put on it over the last few months. Nothing helps! It must be a design flaw!!! I will never buy another Samsung !!!!!

  • Denise Palovcak October 27, 2013, 11:13 am

RS253BAWW model # of mine same as above refrigerator side working freezer not ay all add me to lawsuit no info on where to sign up

  • Mark November 5, 2013, 11:58 am

I have a RF268ABWP and have had this problem for a couple years now. Took everything out a couple times to let the ice melt that was near the fan. But it keeps coming back after a few months. There must be a fix for this!

Has anyone has success with a fix? Even if it’s $500, it’s less than going and buying a new one. I don’t like it but it’s cheaper.

  • Gail Stephens November 9, 2013, 7:26 pm

I have had it with Samsung after having to constantly deal with the ice in this refrigerator. I replaced a perfectly good refrigerator/freezer with this piece of junk when remodeling the kitchen and wanting to match colors. Thank goodness I didn’t purchase any more Samsung appliances–I’ll never buy anything Samsung again. It takes only 1 week now for the ice to build up after removing all the food and thawing the refrigerator so the fan will work until it freezes up again!!!! What a waste of money on a true piece of crap–I hope nobody ever has to put up with anything made by Samsung.

  • Robert Bell November 11, 2013, 8:09 am

I have had it with my Samsung refrigerator !!! Over several years I have spent money on repairs for this freeze up in the frig. still a problem ! I am on social security and can not afford another one.I thought this one would last my life time when I bought it.We need help with this apparently defective designed refrigerator.

  • Dianna Scott November 14, 2013, 1:36 pm

We had a Samsung side by side refridgerator and after having a service man in three times to thaw the coils and do whatever to get it working we finally after it quit working again was forced to buy a new refrigerator. We lost enough food by then we had had it. This fridge was less than two years old and it sits in our garage useless.I feel Samsung should refund our money knowing they was selling these defective refrigerators

  • Nikos Bek November 19, 2013, 3:51 pm

We have a year new Samsung RS265TDRS/XAA – beautiful to look at and awful to spend money on! We got it from Lowe’s. It stopped cooling and it has been a nightmare trying to get an appointment for a tech to come and see it or even get info on what the status of my repair request is – Lowes and Samsung use the same inept A&E Factory Service. After hours on the phone and getting an appointment for assesment for the 29of Nov – almost a month away from the date I called, and looking at being left without a fridge for Thanksgiving, they sent a man who did come after 7pm, way later than his time slot, not knowing what he was doing and straight forward said he does not have the tools to assess the refrigerator!
He said we have to make another appointment, not to mention I have been calling numerous times just to get someone that can actually see in their system what we have to expect – finally they had someone come on Saturday, he without even looking at the fridge said we need to order a pcp – pannel and we need to call for a tracking number. Well, it’s been three days now nobody in A&E can tell me if there is a placed order and if the item had been shipped – all they say is that there is no tracking number and I have to wait…
Just sick and tired of being given the run arround – it it difficuilt enough not having a fridge at home for all your needs…we have been on ice bags spreading the food in ice boxes every night – so tired of their lack of integrity and responsibility! And now I am seeing all these class action suits and blogs with identical issues…If I could, I would sue the pants out of Lowes and Samsung for selling garbage and for wasting people’s time and money! Greed is deadly – what has the world come to be!!!

    • annie jefferson March 13, 2014, 8:31 am

thats were i got mine at lowes

  • Noel Reasoner November 22, 2013, 8:49 pm

My Samsung RF266 is having the same problem. Please send me info about the lawsuit as I would like to join. Thank You!

  • jack mucciarone November 22, 2013, 9:30 pm

My wife and I decided to replace all our appliances which we had for over 12 years without any problems. The sales person talked us into four pieces of Samsung appliances. A microwave, a s.s dishwasher, a convection stove and the s.s refridgerater. Well after two and a half years the dishwasher started acting up. The cost of the repair would of exceeded a new one, so we bought a new one(G.E). Now that we replaced the dishwasher the refridgerater started freezing up, and our product started to spoil. So now I had to order a defrost heater and install it.Whats next? I am very dissapointed with samsung. Samsung should just stick with tellavisions. Please add me to the class action suit. Model # RF2266aepn.

  • Dan Decker November 24, 2013, 2:10 pm

I same problem with my samsung 1.5 years old piece of junk!!!

  • Dave Black November 25, 2013, 3:25 am

Count me in as well. Bought this Samsung in 2005, all was well for the first few years, ever since then I’ve had to unload and defrost it sometimes just weeks later. This is ridiculous!!
I’ve taken the cover off every time , seen the coils and fan iced up THICK, and within a few short weeks it’s back
    Poor poor design

  • Kristy McDonald November 28, 2013, 7:34 pm

RS265LABP Samsung fridge. I took out the bottom drawers then I took off the panel containing the heating coil and fan. There was a large block of ice behind it. I had to be careful pulling it off since it has nothing but Styrofoam between the radiator and the ice. I had to let it sit for a day to get it to defrost. If you use a hairdryer to speed the process be careful cause the plastic around the metal coils will melt or bubble fairly easy. I disconnected everything from the panel, took the thermal sensor out after it defrosted and am replacing both to see if that will fix the problem. Until they are replaced, I have moved the fan to a shelf so it will circulate the air along with the lights and just unplug the fridge for a day every few months so it can defrost. The buildup happens pretty fast. I will post once I work on it and let you all know if it fixes the problem.

Same model same issues as you $1200 piece of junk…

  • Dolores Padgett November 29, 2013, 1:36 am

Count me in I purchased Samsung Refrig RF 267 from Pacific Sales SJC , CA 1/11/2011. After the warranty ran out I had freezing problems with water collection under the deli tray and in tray. It has been fixed 11/8/2012 with evaparator replaced – temperator sensitor $242. I lost all my food in freezer. 8/15/2013 I lost all my food and it cost me $398 for Defrost Kit and Hose. Again 9/5/2013 it had frozen over. Today 11/22/2013 I’m waiting for the repairs done 9/5 to be redone tomorrow. I want to join a class action suit. How do I do this. ?

  • Kristin Sousa November 29, 2013, 5:51 pm

I also have the RF266, and it does t he exact same thing!!! As a matter of fact, my husband has all our food on our counters as he’s defrosting it AGAIN right now!

  • Kristin Sousa November 29, 2013, 5:52 pm

I would also like to join this class action suit. Thank you.

  • jayson hudson December 2, 2013, 10:47 pm

Samsung rs265labp The refrigerator side destroyed the fan, evaperator coil, and the housing that surrounds this entire assembly, the fan housing has broken completely loose from the inside rear of the refrigerator with no way to reattach it as the plastic grommets have pulled out of the back of the refrigerator main body do to a huge ice formation on the evaperator coil. So glad I paid $1200 for this POS a few years ago. please add me to this lawsuit as well! In the mean time I have found a GE refrigerator on craigslist built in 1937 that still works perfect lol imagine that.

  • allen petri December 10, 2013, 10:26 pm

I have a Samsung side by side RS267LBBP, we have lost all our food because it froze up so solid that it broke the back panel of the Refrigerator , I had to unplug it to Defrost it. now the control panel is out, we had a repair man out once already, we are on disability and can not afford to repair it again, were trying to use it as long as we can, please add us to your lawsuit

  • Bryan Halsey December 11, 2013, 6:38 pm

I have a Samsung model RF267ABRS that has this problem. Ice is building up and then it is leaking down into the freezer and causing the freezer door not able to close properly. The back of the panel is bulged out with ice. What do I need to do to be involved in this lawsuit. Paid a lot of money for this fridge new from lowes and should not have to replace this early cause Samsung does not have a fix for it…. HELP!

  • Keith Gowen December 12, 2013, 3:53 pm

We have a samsung model RF26XAEBP purchased May, 2010. We bought a Lowes extended warranty, thank goodness, it has been repaired 7 times, twice in the last 6 months.
We would like to be added to your lawsuit, if our refrigerator is on your list of defective appliances. We have documentation by Lowes of all the service calls.
    Thanks

  • Jennifer Burns December 18, 2013, 8:26 pm

I have the RS 275..how do we become part of
This lawsuit? I don’t see or can’t find a link!

  • Bart December 21, 2013, 8:03 am

A few years ago I had the same problem with my RF263 Samsung refridgerator where the back panel kept freezing up & also water filling up under the pantry drawers. I had a few of my own service techs out & had parts replaced but still had the same problem. Finally, after complaining on their website I received a call from Samsung’s Vice Presidents office & they offered to send a Samsung tech at no cost. He came & immediately found out that the wire (for the defrosting mode) was connected to an insulated pipe instead of the bare pipe which caused it to NOT defrost. This was done incorrectly at the factory. He connected it to the correct pipe & I haven’t had a problem with the refridgerator since then. Maybe some of you that are having the same problem can have that checked out. Hopefully this will help.

    • Ed December 23, 2013, 6:32 pm

Bart, You wouldn’t have the vp office’s number would you?

  • Splotchie DoRight December 21, 2013, 6:00 pm

I see all these people asking where to get in on the class action suit but just like trying to get in touch with Samsung, there is no information coming back. WTF ?

    • Jacob December 27, 2013, 9:16 am

Hi everyone. I read through all the posts above because I to have a Samsung refrigerator where the refrigerator coils are freezing up. This is causing the back panel to expand and push the drawer out which, in turn, is pushing my refrigerator door open.

So, after reading through all the posts above it seems like many of you are frustrated that we haven’t seen an updates or information on this case. I did a little digging and this is what I’ve found.

The original complaint was filed in September of 2010. You can see the original document here (45 pages long)..
      http://www.zimmreed.com/uploads/Samsung-Complaint.pdf

The case is still alive but not looking good for us consumers. Either the attorney for the plaintiff doesn’t have their stuff together or Samsung just has so much $$ that they have better representation. The last update I can find right now on the case is March of 2013. Here is a short snippet (the Conclusion) section from the March opinion.

This is a copy & paste from the 11 page opinion link that I posted below.
      “V. CONCLUSION
For the reasons stated above, Defendants’ motion to dismiss is GRANTED in part, and DENIED in part. Count I (fraudulent inducement/non-concealment) and Count II (Consumer Protection Laws) are DISMISSED WITHOUT PREJUDICE. With respect to Count III, the breach of warranty claim under Minnesota law (Count Three) is dismissed WITHOUT PREJUDICE, but the breach of warranty claim under Ohio law survives. Finally, the motion to strike is DENIED. Plaintiffs shall have 30 days in which to amend their pleading in accordance with this opinion. An appropriate order follows.”
You can read the entire 11 page court opinion from March here.
      http://docs.justia.com/cases/federal/district-courts/new-jersey/njdce/2:2010cv04811/246895/80
Finally, I found some contact information for the attorneys representing the Plaintiff here:

  • Jacob December 27, 2013, 9:30 am

Hmmm. This is strange. After reading a bunch of these posts I decided to do some research on this case and am trying to post my reply but this website keeps rejecting it. Maybe it’s because I was attempting to post links. Anyway, the short and skinny is that this case IS still active but not looking that great for us consumers. The court offered an opinion in March 2013 in which 3 of the 4 claims were dismissed. There is one claim that is still alive. Samsung must be throwing some big $$ at this case.

  • Berlinda December 31, 2013, 3:55 pm

  • Bran Collingwood January 1, 2014, 8:17 pm

Count me in I purchased Samsung Refrig RF 267 from sears , CA 9/10/2010. After the warranty ran out I had freezing problems with water collection under the deli tray and in tray. I had it fixed , I lost all my food in fridge. It froze up again and again had it fixed and lost food. Today 1/1/2014 I am having the same issues and will need to redo again. I want to join a class action suit. How do I do this. ? The cost of this is costing a fortune I am about to throw this 3 – 4 year old fridge away. The old fridges use to last 20 years whats up with old Sears selling these crappy fridges that look great on the outside but are useless on the inside.

    • Bonnie Alexander March 1, 2014, 1:15 pm

Mine did the water under the tray a couple times too. I thought it was a design defect & spent an hour paper toweling the water out. Ij’ve had the icing issue several times and have risked food poisoning by unplugging it a couple time to try to defrost it. Mine was from Sears as well bought 4/14/10. What a pain it has been; I just heard about the lawsuit today; doesn’t sound hopeful; although now I can tell my husband to get off my back about buying it. Think I’m going back to the old top freezer with no whistles & bells—they lasted forever! Good luck!

  • Rasesh Mugatwala January 2, 2014, 5:37 pm

Very bad experience with this Samsung Product. My product is RS267TDRS, have multiple issue with cooling and ICE maker and later found that it is known issue already filed a case for it so updating this case.

    • Rasesh Mugatwala January 2, 2014, 5:39 pm

Count me in too. I purchase this from Sears on 7/7/2010 and year later all different problem started.

DON’T purchase a Samsung refrigerator!!!! Same issues with my parents.

  • Ljones January 18, 2014, 1:51 pm

Would love to be a part of the law suit. We have thrown away so much money and time trying to repair our freezer. I hate it.
Coils a mess, ice build up, not cooling, squealing noises coming out of freezer, ice not making, order new parts, then to unload the freezer to defrost and repair ….and in less than a month- repeat!!
We just repaired it and now the ice won’t dump out!!! and noises already starting ….

  • LEAH MOORE January 19, 2014, 1:13 pm

Count me in on the Law Suite. I have a Samsung series RF 263 refrigerator. Initially water under Cool Select Pantry and on floor. Ends up to be frozen ice on coils which caused fan to make a noise! Cost at least hundred dollars each time to have someone out!!!!

  • Tricia Rivas January 21, 2014, 9:58 am

I purchased a Samsung side-by-side RF267ABRS. The back of the refrigerator keeps freezing up. I have to continually take out all of the food to defrost it. Horrible product! SHAME ON SAMSUNG! If the lawsuit is still going… count me in, if not… should there be another?

  • Bev Clark January 24, 2014, 8:29 pm

We have had the same problem with our Samsung Very disappointing.

  • Sam Lock February 1, 2014, 3:50 pm

Purchased the Samsung refrigerator #RS267LASH from Lowes & have been having the same aggravating & time consuming problem of having to defrost it every 2-3 weeks. I would like to know how to join the class action lawsuit against Samsung. Thank-you

  • Karen February 13, 2014, 11:15 pm

I bought a Samsung rs265tdrs refrigerator about 2 years ago and I’m having the same problem. Spent over $1,000 on this appliance and have had nothing but trouble with it. I will never buy another Samsung appliance…..EVER. Freezer won’t stay cold, the ice maker never worked correctly. The reset button for the ice maker is hard to find and customer support wasn’t even sure where the button to push to reset was and they said the button was black. It’s not. It’s white and the same color as the inside of the refrigerator. I wish I had bought another brand instead of Samsung.

  • Apolonio Garcia February 17, 2014, 8:56 pm

Purchased a Samsung fridge (over $1,500) from BestBuy about 3 years ago. Have had continuous problems with the ice maker and now the fan noise / icing problem. Very disappointed.

  • Daya Bhai February 18, 2014, 8:10 pm

I have a samsung RS267lash. This machine has given me nothing but trouble since i bought it 5 yrs ago. Had to change mother board and the sensors and now told that the condenser fan needs to be changed. Apart from spending money on repairs, the cost of losing food has been too much. Never ever going to buy samsung appliances. please include me in the law suite.

  • Carol Ann & Anthony Lombardo February 19, 2014, 3:25 pm

I have had the same issues with a Samsung Refrigerator Model #RF266AEWP that keeps getting ice in the back of the inside refrigerator that has been repaired 4 times in the past 2 months and still it gets ice. The dishwasher has been repaired 2-3 times because of a sensor, Model # 4020MT300RFW. I’m told they will not honor my extended warranty that will only give me $500 toward a new refrigerator until a repairman ascertains that it is irreparable. Um, 4 times, 2 months, same problem. Samsung and Sears just keep passing the buck and we’re monkey in the middle. Will I ever buy Samsung again? NEVER! Keep me posted and part of this class action suit.

  • Marc Masseus February 19, 2014, 8:47 pm

    Note about samsung refrigerator.

  • marie rocco February 21, 2014, 3:52 pm

Same issue, food has spoiled,,,,fan makes hideous noise…frozen interior coils……als0 purchased front loading washer and dryer…..all crap!!!Everyone has required numerous repairs……WILL NEVER PURCHASE SAMSUNG AGAIN>>>>>>

  • Jennifer Roberts February 22, 2014, 9:43 pm

Have had my samsung fridge for three years. For a year now it has been freezing up in fridge compartment vents causing water to puddle up in the bottom of fridge and keeping the fridge from getting adequately cool and causing my food to spoil. Haven’t been able to get decent help for this issue and would love to see a way in which we all could be compensated.

    • mark therien April 10, 2014, 12:07 pm

anyone with any info on this bloody awful product please inform me. All our appliances are samsung all of them have issues. Seems like the samsung company really wants to stand behind thier products.( sarcasm) . The service from this company is absolutely garbage. you can count me in if the lawsuit is still going on. Nothing good to say about samsung and will NEVER recommend this name to anyone.

  • Lonny Armstrong February 28, 2014, 2:59 pm

Please add me to class action lawsuit. I bought a Samsung RF267ABRS/AXX refrigerator in the end of 2009.
It has been freezing under the bottom drawer in fridge for the last couple of years. It makes loud popping, snapping noises, and the temp. digital display does not work.

  • Jeff Redman February 28, 2014, 4:22 pm

Same deal, tired of defrosting (RF26XAEBP), no codes on diagnostics, gonna order new defrost sensor for evap coil and new cover since it’s been wrecked because of having to separate it so many times from the ice, totally wasted $1500. On this POS

  • Jeff Redman February 28, 2014, 4:23 pm

Add me to the lawsuit as well

  • Bonnie Alexander March 1, 2014, 1:07 pm

I am having the same problem. Fridge & freezer both icing up then all frozen goods thaw out. I just threw away several hundred dollars worth of groceries. I’ve called for warranty repair but they say this isn’t covered and want $125 just to come out. I’ve called 3 different times since I bought this RF267 almost 5 years ago for nearly $2000.
Can I still get in on this lawsuit? My husband keeps yelling at me for putting so much food in the fridge; what’s the point of having a large fridge if you can’t use it?!

  • TP Hyde March 1, 2014, 1:30 pm

My Samsung Ref mod #217 has the same problems with freezing coils. Add me to your litigation

  • Shane March 6, 2014, 7:50 pm

Grrr our Samsung is making this loud noise too. I was googling the problem, not the same as the first time around. The fridge looks great, but is just junk, already had some kind of fan replaced. I don’t have the model number on me, it isn’t very old though and was purchased from Best Buy, turns out to be one of the Worst Buys. . . ever.

  • Angelo Mililli March 13, 2014, 9:20 am

I have a French Doors Model RFG29PHDRS/xAA. It is 2 years old and did not work well for the past year or so (Just after the warranty expired). It has always made all kind of noises and since new it never produced ice in a consistent manner. I purchased a new ice maker from Samsung last year for a $125 but it still wont produce ice. I have it fully defrosted it about 5 times over the past year as ice forms behind the fan panel in back. Today a third party outfit, subcontracted by Samsung came out and told me that I needed a new fan/backpanel for the amount of $360 and a new icemaker for the amount of $190. Right now I am again looking at a full load of groceries on my kitchen counters as I once again defrost it so that the noise wont keep me up again! . Please add me to this lawsuit or tell me how to join. My email is angelomililli@ymail.com. Thank you

  • Carlos Sousa March 14, 2014, 10:19 pm

My Samsung RS267 is also freezing up, not cooling in the fridge side. Count me in on the lawsuit.

  • K & B Smith March 15, 2014, 2:56 pm

The initial information states this is a lawsuit from 2010. Is this an ongoing lawsuit? Count me in. Appears the drain used during the defrost cycle is frozen and water overflows into the bottom of the fridge. To top it off the ice maker makes about 4 cubes a day and needs to be replaced. Has there been a recall on these products?

  • Kirk Blair March 16, 2014, 5:21 pm

Owned a side by side samsung RS267 series fridge since 2008 I have been having to defrost every two to three weeks due to fridge freezing up causing the fridge side not working correctly due to airflow problems. I have adjusted the temps to both sides of fridge but it wont regulate. When I plug in fridge I set fridge to 0 degrees on freezer side and 34 on fridge side I will come back in 2 hours see that control LED say what was set but when I unplug fridge and plug back in the settings say -14 and 34. That works for about 2 to 3 weeks until it freezes up.

  • Charles E. Veasey March 17, 2014, 1:57 pm

My rf267 Samsung refrigerator keeps icing up on the coils. How do I go about getting added to the lawsuit and is it ongoing? Count me in too.

  • Jason Neterer March 20, 2014, 11:24 am

Add me in as well same issue

  • Cherri March 20, 2014, 4:00 pm

My heart goes out to Samsung customers. I have a Samsung fridge it has problems, Many times I’ve gone home and its quit cooling. The worse thing is I’m a authorized Samsung servicer. Telling a customer your repair is $$$ we hear I pd a lot of money for this appliance. Believe me, I understand. Sadly, Sears, Lowes, Best Buy they have no pull with the manufacturing. They buy a product to sell. Just like I sell new Crosley appliances I hope its made correctly. I would like to know that $8 part I think we could provide better customer service it we know this would fix the problem.

  • Reniece Randke March 20, 2014, 8:45 pm

I have a samsung fridgr to an i com home an it is not cooling any more it is very stressful

  • Karol Frystak March 21, 2014, 5:02 pm

Please add me to the lawsuit as I purchased an RF217 about 2 years ago and it keeps freeing up. We have removed and thawed it several times but it keeps building up ice under the produce drawers. We are tired of emptying it and thawing and would not have imaged that we would have to do this to a high end Samsung. Very disgusted with it but cannot afford to replace. I have to keep my produce in the old fridge.

  • Lisa Rosa March 21, 2014, 10:31 pm

    samsung side-by-side model # RS236TDBP.
bought in May of 2011 from Sears. 8 months after we lost all food when it was found not cooling. $$$ down the drain… including $200 of thawed meat due to a bad condensor/evaporative fan. Repairs cost @200.00 now 1.5 years later, same problem. We’re done. time to look at a more traditional brand. Please add us to the suit if active.

  • Carrie Ann Naumoff March 25, 2014, 9:41 am

Please add my husband and me to your lawsuit. We have an RF217 that we bought in 2011, and six months ago began freezing under the crispers, and dripping water into the bins. We do not have the time or know-how to fix it. We’ve gone through the same things as everyone else- called Samsung more than once, been to Sears, and had a repairman out. He told us that he was dealing with the same problem with another family and that there is NO FIX for our model, although Samsung tries to claim that there is. When waiting to talk to someone at Sears about the problem, we ran into another couple dealing with the exact same issue. We bought a new fridge because are very busy working people with no time to defrost every month, and are tired of the veggies and other foods freezing up and getting ruined.

  • Brian Davis March 25, 2014, 11:21 pm

Please add me to the lawsuit. My Samsung Refrigerater is model number RF26XAER. I have had the same freezing problem in between the back cover of the refrigerator as others have had. Sometimes it occurs as often as every three months. This is getting very frustrating as every time it clogs with ice, I have to empty the refrigerator and hold a blow dryer to the back to loosen the ice. It takes hours. What a piece of junk this is. This appliance should have been recalled years ago.

  • Angie March 27, 2014, 9:27 am

Add me! We have a model I have yet to see mentioned. It is a RB195BSBB. We have had ours for 7 years and have had issues the first 6 months. Looking to replace the coil yet AGAIN!!!!!!! I have lost all use of my freezer, the icemaker broke a long time ago due to overfilling un freezing and refreezing. Such a pain in the backside! Temp is not consistant and well SAMSUNG you STINK!

  • Richard Nantz March 27, 2014, 11:03 am

How can I get added to this list we have a samsung rb215lash and its doing the same thing freezes everything in the refrigerator and causes the ice maker to freeze up

  • lynne hauk March 27, 2014, 8:24 pm

I purchased my refridgerator less then 5 years ago at lowes and am having the same problem. Please enclude me in this class action

  • Patricia Kuhlman March 27, 2014, 8:31 pm

I am sick of this refrigerator and the horrible LOUD noise. It is a fairly new refrigerator that we purchased a couple of years ago brand new. It started making a loud noise from the freezer side not very long after we brought it home. We called a repairman and had it fixed and it cost us over $200 for that. It is making the same loud noise again.
PLEASE ADD ME TO THE LAWSUIT!!!
I will NEVER buy another Samsung product again. I don’t care what it is, if it has the name Samsung on it, I will not buy it.

  • Gary Ross March 29, 2014, 8:16 pm

A temporary defrost solution without taking the unit apart or removing food is to push and hold the Energy Saver and Power Freeze buttons for 3 seconds until the display reads OF – OF (off). This turns off the compressor (cooling). Then press and hold Fridge/Power Cool for 3 sec to turn on Power Cool. This turns on the refrigerator fan in the back panel and will start defrosting the ice behind the back wall panel. Let it run for a few hours (depending on the amount of ice, this time will vary. NOTE: If you already have so much ice that your fan is not moving, this will not be nearly as effective. Also, if your drain hole is plugged or frozen – as mess will occur as the melting ice water will have no where to go but to the bottom of your refrigerator. This technique is more of a preventative measure and can be used every few months to try to prevent ice buildup. If your fan starts to make noise (blades hitting ice), give this a try. It is not a fix, it is a band aid as there appears to be an issue with the defrost hardware. My Samsung worked for 3 years then started freezing up.

    • Gary Ross March 29, 2014, 9:33 pm

To exit the OF mode described above, press and hold the Energy Saver and Power Freeze buttons for 3 seconds. This should restore normal operation. Don’t forget to turn off Power Cool when the temp is back to normal or the temp will drop too low.

I have a Samsung RS263TDPN. After contacting Samsung and paying 2 repairmen that I had to use to be covered for warranty, I spent 200.00 dollars and a fortune on food lost. The first repair man charged 119.00 told me to defrost it and wrote nothing on the service description sheet. The Samsung lady was most uncooperative and sent another repairman out for 75.00 that at least defrosted my box. This visit resolved nothing and both said to turn off energy mode and lower coolness level. Since then I have defrosted this box 4 times. Very disappointed in Samsung. Sign me up for this class action lawsuit.

  • Russ Arndt April 5, 2014, 7:39 am

Please add me to the lawsuit. I have a Samsung refrigerator, model RF267. It started with the fan making a loud clicking noise and now the back of the refrigerator is blocked up with frost and ice. Expected to get more than a couple of years out of it. Very upset with this inconvenience.

  • Betty McDaniel April 6, 2014, 5:37 pm

Please add me to this Law suit . Just 2 years old and it started freezing up after 13 months now that was fixed and now the ice maker stops working. this is Junk I will never buy anything Samsung makes.

  • Lynn Dyer April 8, 2014, 6:12 pm

I have a Samsung fridge that has problem with water collecting in vegetable bins and under the bins. From what I’ve read on internet alot of people having same problem. Is there a class action lawsuit for this?

  • Lynn Dyer April 8, 2014, 6:13 pm

I should add the model # of my fridge is RB217ABPN, problem with water collecting in and under vegetable bins. Class action lawsuit?

  • Jared Starr April 11, 2014, 6:41 pm

I have a RF217ACPN Samsung french door fridge that is about 1 1/2 years old. About half a year ago the freezer iced up so badly in the back that the door wouldn’t close. I took everything out and defrosted it until I was able to extract a chunk of ice from behind the back panel that could sink the Titanic. Put everything back together and no troubles until a couple of weeks ago then the circulating fan began making loud noises. I emptied the fridge of everything and defrosted it for a day with the doors wide open then put it all back together and it worked fine for two more weeks. Now it is back to making the noise again. I would think Samsung could provide suggestions or some kind of kit that would solve this problem. Not holding my breath.

  • Mike Gribben April 15, 2014, 7:05 pm

I am sitting here waiting on this pos samsung refrigerator /freezer to thaw out right now mine is model rs261mdwp the manufacture date is nov 2011 . just out of warranty never has worked right same problem as everyone else. a 1200.00 dollar refrigerator should work and last longer than this. Add us to the lawsuit.

  • Daniel Crowley April 18, 2014, 10:47 am

Same problem with the coils freezing up. Model RF263AEBP/XAA. Spent way to much money to have a problem like this. Please add this to the Lawsuit.

  • Mike Kitner April 19, 2014, 1:20 pm

Same here. Model RF267AARS. Had the service guy here twice to thaw it out to the tune of $150 each call. First time it happened the water was running out of the front of the fridge and ruined the hardwood floor under it. Now I’m froze up a third time. I suspect this is just a comment area for griping but if I can be added to the suit here please sign me up.

  • dudley aldonzar April 20, 2014, 3:17 pm

After reading the plethora of bad experiences here with the Samsung fridge line, not wanting to add more of the same comments I will just say that we also experienced the classic problems described here. I just want to know how to get into this class action suit.

  • Anthony Davidson II April 21, 2014, 11:09 am

I have a Samsung model RS263TDBP that is having the issue of freezing up and not keeping the refrigerator side cool. I have contacted Samsung and they passed me onto a “Golden In Home” service that wants to charge me upwards of $200 just to come and look at my refrigerator and possibly fix my issue. Not to mention I have to pay for parts as well. Please add me to the lawsuit!

  • Liz April 23, 2014, 2:57 am

Website for Class action Attorneys for Samsung Refrigerator cooling defects
    http://www.zimmreed.com/Samsung-Refrigerator/20856/

My history – Purchased on 8/11 for $1,590.00 from reputable appliance company who URGED me to buy warranty! That was another $200. I only bought this model because I was led to believe that ALL the cooling problems from 2007-10 had been fixed. You would think that after 3 years, that would be the case. NOT!
Our French door stainless steel Samsung stopped cooling in refrigerator compartment around 4/3/14 (we were gone for awhile- most everything spoiled)
    Model #RF263AERS/XAA
4/23/14 – Described problem to repair company in Portland , Ore. (referred by warranty co.) who refers local repair in Washington. He said they could not bring or even order parts because he is uncertain what the problem is! HAHA! after all these years of complaints?? Same issue? New compressor, perhaps? REALLY? So now I’m waiting for a repair person to come “troubleshoot” refrigerator – THEN order the parts to repair it. Why not carry a myriad of SAMSUNG repair components with you, especially ones that pertain to the cooling system! Meanwhile, no refrigeration for our family of 4. My Whirlpool which we bought new, was 13 yrs. old, – and then we moved! NEVER a problem. I thought this would be a nice step up in design and space. This makes me so angry because I DID the research. Samsung is turning their backs and pretending this is everyone else’s problem, but the numbers do NOT lie. THEIR refrigerators are DEFECTIVE! Please fill out the form on the above website and continue to make noise about this by telling everyone, including the companies where you bought the product. TELL THEM NOT TO CARRY CRAPPY DEFECTIVE APPLIANCES! Otherwise you will discontinue shopping at their business.

  • Bill Casey April 23, 2014, 10:26 pm

Same Problem here, (Rs263tdbp) Fridge side wont cool. Food has spoiled. This is the first refrigerator I’ve every bought and it’s been awful. From the very 1st day it wasn’t wired right. They had to send a tech out because the open door chimes would continuously go off. Now just a couple years later some new defects are coming to light.

  • Emily Caruth April 24, 2014, 12:10 pm

We purchased a Samsung RS265LABP from Lowes. We didn’t take the extended warranty but had the 1 year manufacture warranty. After the year was almost up, the refrigerator began to leak water on the floor. It took me a few days to figure out where it was coming from but since I had wood flooring, knew it had to be found soon. Stuffed a towel at the bottom corner of the refrigerator to catch the water. I realized the water was from the refrigerator area and not the freezer. When I contacted Samsung, the warranty had been up 4 or 5 days and they wouldn’t cover cost but set me an appointment up with a Authorized Samsung repair person in my area. I was very upset with Samsung because I told them the problem began a few weeks before my warranty was up, but I just realized that it was something wrong with the refrigerator that would require a repairman. Samsung did not care, they said no warranty coverage from them. Later I contacted the Lowes where we purchased the refrigerator and told them had badly Samsung was doing us so Lowes agreed to cover the cost of the repair. The repairman came and said it was a defrost sensor gone bad and replaced it. I paid the repairman and Lowes reimburse me. Now, about a year and half ago, I noticed water on the floor again so I turned the temp up a little on the refrigerator side. Later I noticed the trays in the bottom on the refrigerator not closing all the way so I looked and saw ice buildup in the back of the refrigerator on the inside. I turned the temp down but the ice continued to build. Called Samsung last summer and told them that I’ve had trouble with the refrigerator twice within the last 5 to 6 years. They would only schedule a service appointment with the Authorized repair person in my area, Ables Repair Servies. Ables called and scheduled an appointment and then the next morning called and cancelled. He cancelled twice and then said he would not fix my refrigerator because that type of refrigerator was a bad design and they are too much trouble. I asked him what could I do and he said call Sears. I called Samsung back and told them their repair man refused to come. Now, so much ice collected inside my refrigerator in the back that I had to remove the trays to close the doors. I finally found a repair man (not Samsung Authorized) to come look at the refrigerator and he didn’t know how to work on it but told me to see if I could borrow a refrigerator and until the ice thawed in the Samsung. We did and found out that the defrost coil was freezing up but so much ice had collected in the back that it broke panel over the coil broke and can’t be screwed back in. I called Samsung again recently and every Authorized repair person near me is refusing to come work on my refrigerator. We spent close to $3,000.00 on this refrigerator and I feel completely helpless. I don’t know where to go from here. I need the refrigerator fixed or something so I can return the one I borrowed. I’ve never dealt with a manufacturer that has put me through such stress ever. I will never buy another Samsung product!

  • Emily Caruth April 24, 2014, 12:21 pm

I need to get the website info to sign up for the class action suit.

  • Christine Watts April 28, 2014, 7:31 am

I own the RS263BBWP. My refrigerator has had issues with the ice maker from the beginning. We were told it was our water system and to get our water system checked. So we did. We had our reverse osmosis system checked, pressurized, all filters changed and still ice would jam, or not get made. This has been going on since we have owned it. It is embarrassing to have to always run to the store, in ask friends to go home, or bring the ice from their own fridge when we have a party. I also have a very loud noise coming from the back of the refrigerator side we can hear into our family room even when we are watching television now! How can a successful company ignore so much fault in the products that they created? Isn’t it best to be a company with integrity and respect to the consumer? In the end you win ten fold by earning a better name then you thought you had.

  • Denise Hall April 29, 2014, 7:52 am

We also have the RB17ABPN that continues to freeze up. Ours is now five years old and this is the second time we have had to dismantle and repair fan/motor. Samsung is of no assistance. Would love to be added in class action lawsuit.

  • Carol Ahern May 3, 2014, 8:49 pm

Well add me to the I GOT SCHREWED BY SAMSUNG group. We purchased a Samsung Model RB195ACPN REFRIGERATOR from Lowe’s in Worcester, Ma 4/2014. Just before its second birthday the inside air vents stared to frost over and now the motor is singing, I GOT YOU BABE!! We called appliance stores, who were quick to point out the problem. QUOTING ONE, “THAT IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU BUT JUNK”!!!!!!!!!! HELP, I have to do something. I am so angry that they knew about this defect, yet continued to mass produce these refrigerators. Would love to be added to class action lawsuit. LET JUSTICE PREVAIL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
