Samsung Refrigerator Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Filed Over Alleged Frozen Coil Defect

Samsung Refrigerator Owners File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Samsung Over Alleged Defect That Causes Refrigerator Coils To Freeze Over.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (hereafter “Samsung” or “Defendants”) in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (styled Jeff Weske, Jo Anna Frager and Darryl Myhre v. Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Civil Action Case No. 2:10-cv-04811-WJM -MF) alleging, among other things, that Samsung sold refrigerators containing a defect that causes the refrigerators’ coils to freeze over, resulting in the failure of the refrigerator to cool, which has caused consumers to suffer damages for lost groceries, spoilage and repairs, according to class action lawsuit news reports.

The Samsung refrigerator class action lawsuit complaint reportedly alleges that certain Samsung French door, side-by-side and bottom freezer refrigerators (model numbers RF266AASH, RS263BBWP, RB1955SH, RS2533SW, RS267LASH, RS267TDRS, RS2630WW) the refrigerators are designed and manufactured with heated coils that are intended to prevent excess frost from developing in the back of the machine, but instead of preventing frost, the coils allegedly allow frost and ice to build up in the refrigerators until the ice clogs and/or disables the machine’s fans, making it impossible for the fans to work to keep the machine cool.

The Samsung refrigerator coil class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of the following putative class members, unless otherwise excluded:

All persons or entities residing in the United States who own, or have owned, Samsung refrigerator models RF266AASH, RS263BBWP, RB1955SH, RS2533SW, RS267LASH, RS267TDRS, RS2630WW and/or any other Samsung refrigerator model containing a defect that causes the refrigerator’s coils to ice over and the refrigerator to stop cooling.

We also own a Samsung fridge which has icing problems. The model number is RB217ABPN. It was purchased less than fours ago and we’ve
spent over $500 for three repairs. Is this model number included in the
suit? If not, we would like to see it added. After we were refused any compensation at all, we wrote a letter to the CEO of Samsung North America,. A Samsung representative then offered us $66.02 compensation, which we feel is insultingly inadequate. We will never buy another Samsung product again and ask you to include us in
    this lawsuit.

I have a Samsung RS277 Refrigerator. Nice looking, silver box, that I bought new. However, after having this item for a few years, it developed the icing issue that is being discussed here. After removing all the food, shelving and back panel, I see that the coils and drain spout are indeed frozen (inch thick of ice). Water is leaking onto my kitchen floor and the freezer will no longer freeze ice cream. I thawed out the coils (twice now) and made sure the drain was clear, but the fridge has the same issue. Keeps the fridge cold, but not the freezer. I called 5 separate repair places. ALL OF THEM said “We do not work on Samsung. They are junk and you cannot get parts for them or access the places that need to be fixed”. Great. So I am stuck with a huge two-door silver coffin. At this point, I am needing to buy a new refrigerator. I will NEVER purchase another Samsung appliance. Whirlpool all the way. Please include me in the suit.

I bought a Samsung RS267TDRS/XA in June of 2010 from Sears Westminster, Ca. Now, I have the same problem with the freezing in the back of the fridge, ice melting and dripping water from the bottom of the fridge onto the floor. Fridge side is not working and Samsung Customer Service suggested a technician come out. Fort $85.00 he advised me that I needed a new Assymbly Cover Evap, Temp Sensor, and Thermo Fuse Assy. This costed an additional $140.00. This refrigerator is a piece of junk and I want my money back. I have a 20 yr old Kenmore in my garage keeping things cool and have NEVER had a problem. I will never buy another Samsung item again…..JUNK!

  • Jimmy Byrum May 18, 2013, 10:47 pm

I have had the same problems as noted on this site. I was lucky enough to have had my RS2533SW last for about 10 years. It would freeze up on the fridge side and make awful noises at night but it was always cold. The fridge side just stopped cooling yesterday. The freezer side works just fine. I did not get invited to join the class unless the invite went to the old address from which I bought the fridge.

We purchased a RS265LBWP in 2007 and have had multiple problems with 1) ice build up on evaporator coils 2) refrigerator not cooling and 3) water leakage from refrigerator. Even when under warranty the service was absolutely atrocious…and slow. Only one service provided in metro Baltimore area, the individual who arrived could not remove cover to get to evaporator coil. Five days of incompetence. As of this writing (5/13) our refrigerator reads 34 degrees but internal temperature is 56F. Never Again!

  • William D. Canty May 22, 2013, 11:41 pm

Has Samsung corrected the defect that caused the problems leading to this class action law suit? Are any of their refrigerators in the model numbers listed, now being manufactured specifically ensuring this problem was corrected? Or are the same model units being sold in stores today, May 23, 2013; manufactured AFTER this law-suit began, being constructed with the same defect as if the company had no idea there was a problem, so they are continuing to manufacture and sell “junk” to uninformed customers?

  • Dale D'Alessandro May 24, 2013, 5:10 pm

I own a Samsung RF266ABWP/XAA that has the same problem. I’ve also had the ice machine repaired three times. It’s the worst refrigerator I’ve ever owned. It’s started having problems after only 9 months and has constantly had issues with the coils freezing and ice accumulating in the channel in the back where the cooling goes to the freezer. Currently the refrigerator won’t maintain temperature.

  • Monika Wyatt May 25, 2013, 7:29 am

purchased a new Samsung side by side less than 2 years ago repeatedly called sears and Samsung. Lost hundreds of dollars in groceries. Samsung refused to replace and users doesn’t care. How can I become part of the lawsuit?

  • Monika Wyatt May 25, 2013, 7:31 am

Sears does not care about selling defective refrigerators nor does Samsung.

  • Gloria Nickel May 25, 2013, 7:32 pm

I’ve been having the same problems others have noted on this site. We purchased our side-by-side model RS267TDRS June 2010. Yesterday we had it serviced because the frig side stopped cooling. The fan made a horrible noise which sounded like an air hammer and then the cooling stopped. The freezer side worked just fine. Unfortunately, even after the repairs, less than 24 hours later, it has stopped cooling again. I haven’t received any notification about a class action lawsuit involving this refrigerator.

I want to join if it covers the Samsung RM255 LASH. I have made over 1000 dollars worth of repairs on this fridge. Let me know if I can join with this model.

  • Laura C. May 28, 2013, 3:16 am

Samsung French Door Model RF4287HARS Purchased in March 2013, not even 3 months old yet. Paid over 2700 from Home Depot and they won’t let me exchange this piece of junk. Touch screen was acting up in the 1st month. Screen would lock up, so we have to unplug, then plug back in. 1 call into Samsung about that.Nothing done about it. 2 days ago ice stopped producing, made another call. Was told the setting was wrong on the ice maker, so set it at -2 wait two hours. Now, not only is the ice machine out, the freezer is thawing food. After researching problems, I fear i’m out the 2700 with an endless amount of repairs that will be useless. Who has another 2700 I can borrow to get another refrigerator? I’m still paying on this one.

  • Rick Johnson May 28, 2013, 8:07 pm

same problems everyone else is having, ice maker sucks and fridge coils freeze up and refrigerator side stops cooling. purchased from sears in august of 2010 so it didn’t make it three years

  • Robert Guzman May 29, 2013, 1:43 am

We have had our Samsung RS261MDBP refrigerator for less than three years and the door dispenser is no longer working and ice forming in the inside of the same door. We called Samsung and told unit only covered for one year of warranty. I told rep on the phone that the units are billed as the very best and that a one year warranty demonstrates very little confidence in what they make. I put a note on their website today for all to read, buyer beware! Please add me to any lawsuits. This is the only way to show this company that they need to back their products and stand behind them when they break down. Buyer Beware! Do not buy Samsung Refrigerators!!!

  • Stacey Aranda June 1, 2013, 6:50 pm

I want to be part of the law sit.

  • Gerald E. Kahrs June 2, 2013, 7:34 pm

I have a Samsung side-by-side Refrigerator RS2545SH that has the same problems: refrigerator side not defrosting. Coils, vents and fan get encased in ice causing the temps in the refrigerator side to go up and food spoiling. I live in a rural area with no local repair so would have to pay mega bucks for service from 80 miles away. I understand that many people have paid hundreds of dollars to correct this problem, but after just weeks or days, it happens again. Samsung has been irresponsible by not recalling these faulty units. Can someone tell me how I get on the list for the class action lawsuit? I cannot recover the time lost and the aggravation for trying to fix this problem, but at the very least I want my money back for what I paid for this lousy product.

  • Lynne Fisher June 4, 2013, 6:43 pm

I have a rs 2545 sh and it is doing the same thing freezer is fine refirerator does not cool. This was a $3000 fridge and now it does not work really Samsung?

  • Steve Allen June 4, 2013, 6:47 pm

I own a Samsung RS2630WW, may I join the law suit. Already had a fan replaced, now other problems.

  • Larry June 6, 2013, 9:23 am

We have a model RF276ABWP, and have owned it for 4 years. Had no trouble until now. It freezes up in the back and under the crisper and then leaks water out the bottum. Identical as numerous others have described. Paying over $2000.00 for the unit this should not happen.
I would like to be part of the class action suit.

  • Bonnie Pellam June 7, 2013, 9:34 am

Please include me in any Class Action Lawsuit that is filed for this product. I purchased a Samsung RF267AERS/XAA from Best Buy September 2011. The icemaker doesn’t work properly – serviced once, replaced once. The whole refrigerator froze up, repair man came but it took 7 days to get it running properly again. Once he worked on it, the tempeature would not go above 56 degrees so he had us empty it completely and let it set open for 2 days then replaced the main board. I lost almost everything. It is not even 2 years old. So far repairs have cost Best Buy almost half the price of the refrigerator but Best Buy still will not consider it a lemon. Best Buy did say that I could file a food spoilage claim for up to $200.00. I lost more than that but at least it is something.

  • Hollis R. Page June 8, 2013, 11:21 pm

I have a RS263TDBP and the freezer is working fine but the fridge part just quit working, after several odd sounds. Like the majority of people commenting ,it is less than 3 years old.

  • Hollis R. Page June 11, 2013, 4:33 pm

Update,it’s going to cost $375.09 to repair . I was informed the part is on back order(controller board) and will take 5-6 business days to get here(translates into 8 days.) I am only glad I still had the beer and watermelon refrigerator in the garage, that’s a long time to live out of an ice chest. The worst is having an unhappy wife for the duration.

  • Christa Allison June 12, 2013, 6:28 pm

Add me to the long list of complaints when it comes to Samsung Refrigerators.
I have the Side By Side RS261MDBP/XAA Model that I purchased in June 2011 that I’m repairing for the 2nd Damn time.
I was lucky the first time to get it repaired exactly 1 day before the warranty gave out. But this time a recent call to Samsung Customer Care basically told me I was SOL this go around with last years repair lasting less then a year.
Same Problems as before and what everyone else is basically saying. The Freezer side is now the Fridge, and the Fridge side is now a Coffin…DEAD
Add me to the CAL PLEASE!!!

    • Stan Wojcik August 8, 2013, 1:25 pm

RS261MDBP side by side fridge/freezer. This unit is less than 2 years old. 8-3-2013 noticed the fridge was warm inside. Called sears customer service, talked to a David he would not enclose where he was from. I bought a 1 year warranty for the fridge. An appointment was set up for the 8th of august. The tech said he sees this all the time, said there was moisture in the fridge causing ice to build up and this would cause the fridge not to work. He left without fixing the problem. Said it happens all the time. Also the ice maker is erratic and works when it wants to. So much for Samsung and there factory trained techs.
Add me to the class action suit, Please

  • Giles Peacock June 14, 2013, 11:27 am

I bought a samsung RF267 ABWP from best buy that freezes the condensate line which makes the water run down the front of the refrigerator onto the floor.

  • Marcia Hubbard June 14, 2013, 2:17 pm

I keep seeing this information on the Samsung lawsuit, but yet to find out how I join it since my Samsung which is one of the models listed is having the “exact” same problem of freezer working, but not the refrigerator. Now, I’m going to be out a considerable amount of money getting it repaired not to mention all the lost food.

  • gregg mcafee June 14, 2013, 3:56 pm

I own model RS261UDWPXXA and have now had the freezing up problem twice. The first time a few months shy of one year so it was covered under waranty. The second time it’s going to cost me $336.00

  • Mickey Lewis June 14, 2013, 6:23 pm

I am in the process of defrosting and replacing the evaporator fan motor. The ice built up and burned out the motor, RS263TDBP, about three years old. Include me in the suit, this fridge is no worth the cost.

  • Denise Webber June 16, 2013, 12:31 pm

I too am one of the unfortunate thousands who purchased a defective Samsung Refrigerator. Getting someone to work on it is very difficult and really expensive. Finally just put fridge in garage. $2400 thrown away. Would like to be part of class action lawsuit or have samsung reimburse at least for money spent on repairs that did not help. Thanks

  • Rudy Ramirez June 16, 2013, 3:34 pm

Buying the RS267Lash was a huge mistake!! Freezer drops down to -4 and then up to 36 the following day, Up and downd like a roller coaster. I have unplugged it for 10 min, 20 min, 1 Hour and now 2 hours at a time and I get the same results! I will not stand for it any longer, I am forced to buy another refrigerator…. Not SAMSUNG!!!

  • Rudy Ramirez June 16, 2013, 3:34 pm

    Count me in!

  • Gina Campbell June 18, 2013, 2:24 pm

Where can I sign up for this? We bought our Samsung Model RF267AARSXAA in Nov. 2007. After replacing the ice maker in 2008 we still have had problems. Water has continuously leaked down the front of the fridge and then the ice maker rusted and turned our ice brown. It has never produced enough ice and comes out crushed when it’s set on cubes. Most recently the circuit board and compressor went out while we were on a 2 week vacation. I.HATE.THIS.PIECE.OF.CRAP. What a waste of $2500. The only good thing is that we get to buy a new refrigerator…the bad news is that we wasted $2500 on this one. I will not buy Samsung EVER again. In fact, Kenmore (now Samsung), LG and Frigidaire are all made in China and I will not purchase any of these brands. Samsung sucks bottom line.

  • k phillips June 18, 2013, 10:35 pm

I have a samsung french door fridge, 4 years old, that produces constant water builup in the bottom. Apparently there are many others at this website and there is no way to fix it:
    http://www.applianceblog.com/mainforums/samsung/26180-samsung-water-bottom-refrigerator-3.html

I think that we should sue Samsung appliances until they no longer can do business in this country. They are criminals.

  • Cathy D Newcity June 19, 2013, 11:42 am

Model # RF263AEWP….the worst refrigerator I have ever owned… did not last 3 months before the coil and the icemaker went out. It is now passed the warranty…icemaker out again. SOMEBODY…PLEASE GET THIS COMPANY!!!! If I can find an American Made refrigerator I will buy it…anyone knows of one please….let me know. I too would like to be involved in this lawsuit. Buyers…read reviews and you will never buy a Samsung.

  • Charles Gallagher June 19, 2013, 12:20 pm

We have a Samsung side by side #RS267LABP refrigerator. It has leaked water on the floor for over a year. Now the fridge side will not keep thing cold. My husband defrosted the coil himself, which lasted about 4 days. After defrosting the unit again we called a local company, the repairman charged $85 to come out, then said to replace the coil would be $450. We are so fed up. Add us to the CAL !!!

  • sabrina scaggs June 21, 2013, 9:11 am

We bought a samsung fridge about 4 yrs ago. It did really good up until about 2 months ago. The fridge part stoped working. we called a repair man & we thought we had fixed the problem. It worked good for about 2 weeks. Then it stoped working agian. The freezer works fine. We called te repair man again. He told us he had been looking on computer and found out that many people have ad the same problem. He went t another call for the same fridge. He called samsung at that persons house and found out that they wouldn’t help in any way. So he told me to regester my fridge and to place my complant on the computer. So that is what im doing. I has went out twice now and we have lost more food than I can count. We have also been living out of a cooler for over a week this time. I have 3 children and there are just some things we have to have cooled and close to us to be able to use. I do wish i would have found all of this out about samsung about 4 yrs ago. But I am glad to put this out there so other people may read it before they buy a samsung. My model number is RF267AEBP.

  • Angela June 21, 2013, 9:34 am

Our Samsung refrigerator is also defective and I would like to join the CAL. After a year of owning it the ice maker stopped working completely. Just refused to make ice. We had it serviced and it was discovered that the coils were all frozen through. The fridge was emptied and thawed to attempt to fix the problem. But when turned on the coils just froze up again.
Now after 3 years of purchasing the unit, the refrigerator side refuses to maintain a cold temperature. The display panel keeps creeping up to 60 degrees and nothing in the fridge is chilled properly. you can imagine we have lost a ton of food due to spoilage.

  • Kenna Solorzano June 23, 2013, 1:30 pm

Does anyone know how to become part of this suit?

    • Judy Rothenhausler July 5, 2013, 1:38 pm

I want to be a part of the class action suit, too. Would someone tell me how to do this? Samsung replaced Ice Maker while still in warranty at no charge. Now it is two years old and for the past 6 months, water forms under both crispers and they literally freeze so that the crisper drawers won’t open. Once the drawers begin to stick, I take them out and fight massive slabs of ice beneath them. Based on what I have read, it is useless for me to call a repairman, since NO ONE has said the repairs worked…….so why throw in more money!!

  • Terry Morrison June 23, 2013, 2:23 pm

I too have a RS267LASH which had the refer get warm and the freezer was fine. The coils were frozen solid. This unit is about 7 to eight years old. This is the first problem I have had though. I read this list of postings after ordering a new motor and tearing the fridge apart. I will give it one shot then if that does not work it is time for a new one.

  • Kathy Wooten June 24, 2013, 11:45 pm

I too was scammed by Samsung. I had my first problems with my refrigerator, RS26XAEBP, within 3 months of purchase (around 12/2010). Within a year the same part had to be replaced. In the process of the Samsung authorized agents ruined my kitchen floor through all the water that was spilt and leaked. Since then, the ice maker has stopped working twice and does not work now. Then, the same issue as described above occurred! The coils froze, stopping the fans from cooling, and lose of over $1,000 of food. Samsung instructed me to have one of their authorized repairmen diagnose the problem. If the problem was a design flaw they would replace the appliance. At my expense the service man came to my home. After describing what was happening he said he would look at the refrigerator but he knew what was wrong just by the symptoms. He said the refrigerator was designed wrong, a clamp was not long enough to hold the coils causing water to lead and freeze onto them. I thought, good, a design flaw in the words of a SAMSUNG authorized repairman. I was wrong! Samsung then said it was not defective if it could be repaired. I have argued, begged, cried, and every other approach to no avail. I WANT TO BE INCLUDED ON THIS LAWSUIT!!!

  • stanley flack June 25, 2013, 4:31 pm

own a rf266abwp/xaa is now four yrs old…so far had to replace both circuit boards…600 dollars…the door gasket has broken…it freezes up with ice…have to then turn off to totally defrost to get it going…pain in ass…the ice maker never worked…refrig makes the craziest noises all the time…frightens my dogs…the 20 yr old sears refrig i replaced is still humming along in the garage, chilling everything justy fine…go figure…bought this damnsung at sears…what a mistake…

  • Kathi Dominguez June 26, 2013, 8:27 am

I also purchased a Samsung from Lowe’s in 2009. We have had water under our drawers for quite sometime. We just continued to wipe it up, but now the thing froze up and we are having to repair the problem. It is very frustrating. With the amount of complaints they are having about the same problem they should do something about it. As many of you have said, it is am expensive refrigerator and should not be having this problem with everyone of them.

  • Glen Luecke June 26, 2013, 3:22 pm

I own the Samsung RB215LASH bottom mount freezer refrigerator purchased from Lowes in 2006. Just about the time my extended warranty expired in 2010 the unit developed the problem of moisture collecting in or under the crisper drawers and then it started freezing the coils in the refrigerator. Have never had a problem with the freezer but it is annoying to have to defrost the refrigerator, not to mention the loss of food when the refrigerator will not cool to the preset temperature. If possible, add me to the lawsuit.

  • Pamela Cosgrove June 27, 2013, 6:50 am

Sounds like a broken record. We bought a Samsung rs2630ww about 3 years ago. After the first year, the ice maker started freezing over and I ended up turning off the water to the ice maker. Then the freezer stopped freezing. I emptied part of the freezer so air could circulate and that worked for about another year, but then came summer…It has quit again. We are in the process of taking the condenser fan out. We have a small fan sitting next to the fridge cooling the condenser. Hopefully, that will work until we get parts. I dumped a lot of food in the garbage…Not sure how longed it had been thawed!!

  • steve June 27, 2013, 2:56 pm

wow I just contacted Samsung for the 3rd time now there going to do a drain mod on my frozen piece of —- my model # is a rf 267abrs ruined food twice and now I will do the 4th of july without a fridge they said it will be after the 8th before they can get to mine I hope the lawsuit will make them take there junk back and give our money back to go buy a appliance that will run for many years I have a whirlpool in the garage to keep cold drinks in that we bought to replace with this junk that fridge is 22yrs old and still running count me in on lawsuit

  • tyler berg June 29, 2013, 3:49 pm

Bought samsung side by side in 2007 was replace a month after we bought it because it quit working. We went about two years with no issues but now it’s freezing up replaced fan and motor and New housing lasted a month and froze up again . Finding nobody will work on them not even sure the scrap yard will take t his piece of ____.

  • Tanya D Love July 1, 2013, 12:30 pm

I am in awww at all the problems and I bought my samsung bottom freezer RB215ACBP back in 2010 and I started having issues last year with loud noise as if the motor is going to shut down and its also leaking water in the bottom drawers and ice under the drawers. When its not water its frozen. I just need to know how do I get in this class action suit and I agree with Steve I hope they make Samsung give us our money back to purchase a New Non Samsung appliance because this is ridiculous. The noise is loud and annoying. I cant believe we pay so much money for an appliance to only work 1-3 years and customer service tells you are SOL that is not fair to the consumer. Please help.

  • suk m kim July 2, 2013, 12:38 pm

I have the same problem with the Samsung refrigerator I bought2006 Model # is RM255LASH. How to I get my name on this lawsuit?

I have a Model # RF263AEWP and I am having similar problems can we still join in on the law suit?

  • Steve Baker July 2, 2013, 9:53 pm

I would like to know how to be added to the law suit. Also are their any ideas on how long it may last? And are most people replacing their fridges now?

  • Terrie Taylor July 3, 2013, 8:07 am

I have a model RF268ABWP same issues as above. I’ve had this very expensive refrigerator approx 18 months! We’ve had to empty the fridge two time thus far to thaw the ice build up. Is this what we have to do to continue to use the unit???? Please let me know how to join lawsuit. I certainly dont have extra money for repairs or to purchase a new unit.

  • Ray Chiu July 3, 2013, 1:47 pm

I have a Samsung RS255BASB refrigerator and have had the same problem all along. How do I add myself to the class action lawsuit? What is the deadline?

  • James Booker July 3, 2013, 7:24 pm

Freezes up, makes noises like the fan hitting the frozen ice build up around it. please add me to the class action law suit. It reminds me of the old days when you have to empty the refrigerator and defrost it with the food sitting out and no place to keep it cold unless you have several ice chest and buy ice to the keep the food cold until you get it defrosted and back cold again. it’s gets to be a lot of work when you really shouldn’t have this problem.

  • Joyce Nelson July 5, 2013, 3:19 pm

I bought a white French door Samsung refrigerator from Sears in Orange California in April 2010. At first things were fine and I was happy with my purchase. However after having it only 1 year, the crispers filled with ice. I called Sears and had a repairman come to see what the problem was. he explained that ice had built up inside. He took things apart and melted the ice. the cost was $225 and he said there was no guarantee it would not happen again. He recommended I buy an insurance policy for $800! What a scam! At that point I called Samsung. Not only were they rude, they said it was not defective and they would not give me any refund until I had 3 repair calls. A year later the ice was back and there was water and ice in the crispers. I wasn’t about to spend another $200 on this piece of junk so I just got rid of it and got a GE. I lost $1350 on this fiasco which I could ill afford. Shame on Sears for knowingly selling defective appliances! And shame on Samsung for being fraudulent as well! I will never buy from them again! My model number was RF217ACWP-XAA . Please include me in this lawsuit. How can I make sure I am included?

  • Gary Warren July 5, 2013, 6:56 pm

I have a RS253BAWW, same issue, fridge side stopped cooling. Defrosted the frozen coils, then worked for one day, now not cooling again. Count me in.

I bought my samsung french door refrigerator and after 1 yr the ice maker stopped working the evaporator stopped working leaks …lost our food in freezer and refrigerator…it was like pulling teeth to get them to fix that now my food is freezing in the refrigerator and after replacing the ice maker less than a yr ago I have no water from the door. my model # is different it is RF267aars-xaa…Piece of crap! Never would I buy this again. I had purchased a whirlpool side by side ..it looked like hell but still works…NEVER NEVER AGAIN WOULD I PURCHASE ANOTHER SAMSUNG PRODUCT!

  • Nancy Pineda July 7, 2013, 12:58 am

How can I add my name to this lawsuit? I have the Samsung model RS267LASH and have had the refrigeration side stop cooling three times. I refuse to put any more money into repairs, am in the process of looking for a new refrigerator, but will never buy another Samsung again. After the second breakdown I bought an extended warranty but when I called for service two weeks before the end of the warranty period I was told there were no service people available before then making the cost of my warranty a total loss. I will also never buy from Sears again!

  • Victor M. July 8, 2013, 3:03 pm

I purchased the RB215LASH in 2007 and I have just manually defrosted the evap coil….this will be the second time in less than a month!

  • Phap Lu July 8, 2013, 9:23 pm

We purchased a RS265TDRS/XAA. in MAY 2012 and have had multiple problems with ice build up on evaporator coils and motor fan, refrigerator not cooling. even after the repairs, less than 48 hours later it has stopped cooling again. Lost two hundreds of dollars worth of repairs and hundreds in groceries. Sleep less every time refrigerator down, The freezer side worked just fine. I would like to be part of the class action suit. I want make the T-shirt DO NOT BUY SAMSUNG.

    • KB July 31, 2013, 3:46 pm

Same model. Bought October 2011. Samsung had me use A & E Factory Service to repair refrigerator. They say it needs Evaporator and Circuit Board Relay. The needed parts are in “research”. Samsung says repair will be complimentary, but so far they have been unable to get the parts, they are still in ‘research’. The next step they say is a pro-rated refund.
other’s have said that their refund never came, so I am very leery of going that way. seems like a no win situation. I would like a voucher to go get a different brand. I bought as a set and am now concerned about the oven, microwave, and dishwasher.

    • Mike Jones August 14, 2013, 4:13 pm

      Hello,

I’m currently having the same problem with my RS265TDRS/XA. Can you please tell me what the root cause was? Samsung has taken over 4 days to call me to have the issue serviced. They promised me a call in two days, and it’s been 4.

      Thanks,

      Mike

  • Dawn July 9, 2013, 7:12 pm

WOW it’s amazing how much info you can find online…. I too purchased the Samsung french door/freezer on bottom refrigerator. Purchased mine from best buy on 5/2010. I am having the same water pooling/freezing under the deli drawer as all of you are having. I have contacted samsung and have a service tech coming out on 7/15 and already know what the problem is going to be….but after reading this blog and many others I’m thinking it is just going to be a waste of money with no permanent solution. I was told I will be charged $65.00 for a one time service call, another $75.00 flat rate labor rate if they find the problem and the cost of any parts that will be needed
My fridge was purchased in May of 2010, and was two months out of warranty when the issue starting occurring.
so to answer someone else’s question… YES they are still selling refrigerators with the same faulty parts even after they were aware of the problem!!! If I knew in advance I would have NEVER spend money on a Samsung!
if my model RF267AERS is included in the class action suit I would love to be a part of it.

  • cindy briggs July 11, 2013, 2:48 am

Add me to the long list of not happy campers refrigerator model #RS253BAVQ is also being defrosted for the second time 2 inches of ice making the door not stay closed…Add me to the class action law suit..

  • Ricardo Gutierrez July 11, 2013, 5:45 am

I also have the coil freezing defect, but how do I be included in the lawsuit, I purchased the refrigerator in 06/11 model # RS261MDWP/XAA I need help ASAP

  • Hank July 20, 2013, 8:36 am

Rf266aepn is my 3 years old fridge. It starts to have the same problem as it is not cooling enough and froze up at the back panel. I called Samsung and wait for 3 days since there should be someone call me back, but I have to call back again and they said they need to locate a technician in two days to come. In order to have technician to come, I have to pay for$125 just to look at it since it is out of warranty. Let see if they can fix the problem. I have many Samsung products at home. I never expected to have an issue with Samsung. This is my first time! And it will be the only time!

  • Lee Pfeifer July 21, 2013, 8:37 am

These issues need to be brought to the attention of the News Media. In Ohio we have a TV channel called Six On Your Side (ABC 6 On Your Side) which will investigate these type of issues and report on them live via their evening news. They get involved when it affects Central Ohio viewers, if nothing else they would recommend the right actions to bring this to Sears, Samsung, Best Buy and other Retailer’s attention at the Corp level . Consumers who aren’t yet in the actual class action might have more options IE:Contact Attorney General of your state. Form a web site where all affected parties know each other via e-mail address and keep in touch, don’t give up without a fight. • megan fitzgerald July 23, 2013, 8:02 pm

I have a one year old samsung fridge, french door paid $2100 and with the same complaints as all of you. I am now three weeks waiting for a repairman and no fridge. Please can someone email me and tell me how we become part of this lawsuit. This is horrible that so many people obviously have been sold a bad bill of goods with no compensation.

  • CRESENCIO MARIANO July 25, 2013, 7:05 am

I BOUGHT SAMSUNG REFRIGERATOR ABOUT A YEAR AGO AND NOW IT’S HAVING ALL THE PROBLEM MENTIONED. I WOULD LIKE TO BE PART OF THE CLASS ACTION AND AND BE PART OF THE DISAPPOINTED COSTUMERS TO LET OTHERS KNOW THIS PRODUCT IS SO BAD IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN SOLD ANYMORE AFTER MANUFACTURE DEFECT WAS DICOVERED.

  • CRESENCIO MARIANO July 25, 2013, 7:10 am

BUYER BEWARE! DON’T BUY SAMSUNG PRODUCTS UNTIL THEY (SAMSUNG) DO SOMETHING; FIX, COMPENSATE, WITH THE SO MANY COSTUMERS THAT BOUGHT THESE REFRIGERATORS.

  • Melissa Tamayo July 25, 2013, 10:15 pm

Samsung RS267LASH 3rd problem with this refrigerator since buying new. Please add to complaint list.

  • Patrick Conaway July 30, 2013, 6:55 pm

Same problem. Fridge is listed above. Add me to the suit.

  • Anthony Register August 2, 2013, 10:24 pm

I have a RS267TDRS and it has only made ice when I first got it (maybe 10 cubes). I called Samsung to fix it under warranty however they would not fix it because the Samsung Dealer I bought it from in Ontario, CA removed the sticker on the inside of the fridge with the serial number on it and apparently the sticker on the side of my fridge does not have the full serial. I called the place I bought it from and someone came out and looked at it, the guy told me in this model they ran the hose for the water that goes to the ice maker on the inside of the door and it is not insulated and freezes easily and that the door would need to be replaced and with a new door (supposedly the re ran the house in the newer doors). Well, I never got my new door and the place stopped returning my calls. So, I gave up. 2 years and 10 ice cubes….

  • Maren Dalgaaqrd August 5, 2013, 4:21 pm

I purchased a Samsung Model RF-217 and continually have water accumulating in the vegetable bin. I have unplug the refrigerator numerous times and used my hair drier to thaw the ice and get it to drain. I have raised the temperature setting and minimized the food storage, but the problem still exists. I will never buy another Samsung refrigerator.

  • Laurie Fager August 6, 2013, 9:08 pm

We have had our Samsung for over four years and ours is now freezing up and causing water to pool in the bottom. Where can I get more info on this lawsuit?

  • Lyle Whitcomb August 7, 2013, 11:32 am

Purchased RF4267HA September 2012. Advise others against purchasing it. The conceptual design is great, but it is a noisy troublesome piece of equipment. I no longer read or do work that requires concentration in the family room adjoining our kitchen because the refrigerator has a nearly constant whining noise to it that I personally find irritating. The store models are not plugged in and I my older Maytag refrigerator was perfectly quiet. When my freezer iced over and leaked water all over the floor I found the rubberized front level adjustors to be cheap and one flaked apart upon attempting to use a flat-blade screw driver (per the instructions) on it. I needed a vise grip to get them unscrewed so I could slide the refrigerator forward to turn off the water supply. What a mess! and all the while the water was continuing to flow until I finally gained access to the rear of the device. The one-year warranty, according to Samsung, does not cover the replacement of the level adjustors and the spokesman their said the company had zero prior records of anyone reporting a problem with them flaking apart or failing to easily revolve with the application of pressure from a flat-blade screwdriver.

  • Johanna Crowley August 8, 2013, 3:07 pm

Model RF263AERS, same problem, purchased 2 yrs ago from Loews. Online chatted with Samsung tech, placed a online service complaint, then had to call Samsung, jumped through many hoops to finally be told sarcastically “Did you know your warranty expired”. Then, I was given a phone number to call for repair, she did wish me luck! YES PLEASE I WANT TO BE PART OF THE LAWSUIT.

    • Mark August 15, 2013, 10:25 pm

My Mom has just told me about her refrigerator nightmare
She has had to use the neighbors refrigerator for 3 weeks. Please contact me on how to add her name to this lawsuit.

  • James Jarjosa August 10, 2013, 3:02 pm

Please….count me in!! Same problem as everyone else with water leaking from the back. I defrosted it once and a week later it started leaking again. Also the ice maker will only make crushed ice, not to mention the cheap drawers that crack and break. I paid top dollar for this fridge and will NEVER EVER buy samsung again. RS267LBBP is the model I purchased. Someone should really act on these crooks!

  • Eldridge Laughlin August 10, 2013, 3:47 pm

We’ve owned our refrigerator approximately 2-1/2 years and have been having problems with the coils freezing up and not cooling anything, for about 6months. I’m getting tired of tearing it down to defrost it with a blowdryer. The heater coil shows resistance also does the temp sensor, which means the only other thing it could be is the motherboard. Can anyone tell me if model # RS261MDWP is included in this lawsuit.

  • Jennifer Caine August 13, 2013, 11:31 am

Just got off the phone with Samsung after realizing that there was a lawsuit regarding these defective refrigerators. I’ve called multiple times in the last few years but was unaware of a lawsuit. Samsung states that they are not aware of any lawsuit and said I would have to pay for the repair out of my own pocket. Our refrigerator is model #RF26XAERS and it is freezing up on the back panel and has water collecting under the crisper drawers. There is also a noise from time to time like a fan is hitting against something. As soon as this happens I immediately set the fridge to manual defrost mode which is a pain because there is a constant beeping sound that goes along with this mode. Very disappointed. We will never buy anything made by Samsung again, not because of the problem but because of how the problem has been handled by Samsung!

  • Marlene August 15, 2013, 8:11 pm

Amazing that a company like Samsung can’t stand by their products. I have had my side by side serviced 8 times and it still freezes over, leaks on the floor, the freezer stopped and the fridge did too. Now what, wait to fix it again? I can not afford to buy a new one, and Samsung has been less than helpful.

  • J DALY August 16, 2013, 6:46 pm

Same problem here. RF266ABPN started peeing on my kitchen floor about 6 months ago. Today I found that the controller board has failed. I have ordered a replacement board, hopefully it will resolve the problem but I won’t hold my breath.

I would like to be added to the class.

  • Mark August 16, 2013, 7:52 pm

We have RF26VABPN refrigerator. Same issue as everyone else. Ice buildup in fridge, ice maker stopped working. Repairman refuses, rightfully so, this Samsung crap. Add me to this CAS.

  • Susan August 17, 2013, 2:41 am

Samsung fridge is a piece of junk! Same problem as everyone else…refrigerator not cool enough, water accumulating in produce bins, freezer going out, display lights out…unit is less than 2-1/2 years old. Repairs will cost over $500. Please add me to this lawsuit. Model number is RF217ACPN. Customer service is also terrible!!!

    • Theresa August 25, 2013, 6:56 am

Susan, I have the same refrigerator…same problem….totally stinks this whole issue..

  • Theresa August 25, 2013, 6:54 am

There seems to be many consumers dealing with the same ” icing up” issue. I believe we should file another Class Action Law suit against Samsung to either replace or repair for life our refrigerators.

  • Barbara N Stallings August 26, 2013, 12:25 pm

We purchased a RS26TDRS/XAA in May of 2012. Fridge has iced over, freezer works fine. Over $550 in repairs, for a fridge just out of warranty. Please include us in the lawsuit.

    • Mark November 5, 2013, 12:00 pm

Did the repair take care of the problem? Do you remember what they did?

  • E Tong August 28, 2013, 10:02 am

I purchased model RF217ACPN 2 years ago. My regret is not buying a service contract because I had so much faith in the Samsung name.
Two months ago, I found water and ice in my vegetable crispers and the refrigerator kept making banging noises frequently. I called Samsung customer service and the only offer was for the company to schedule a service call and charge me for it. I would love to join the class action suit because Samsung is not taking any responsibility for their manufacturing and design flaws.

  • Karen Gathell September 2, 2013, 3:52 pm

I have an rf217 and havejust gotten a run-around from Samsung, I have water not only freezing under the Veggie crisper but also in both the left and right crisper.. also, tech service is limited in my area and milage for said service must be paid by me, as my 12mo warrenty has expired, I got no help at all from Corporate..
Please add this model to the lawsuit, as I see that many others have
complained to Consumers report about the same problem —

  • steven September 2, 2013, 11:22 pm

same problem. is there anything i can do?

  • Ed Drake September 6, 2013, 1:07 am

Same problem, started in January 2013, after 4 repair visits totaling just over $600.00, service call recommended by Samsung. Just last week the fridge side is icing over again, frizzier side still cooling. I lost food in January and last week also.
I’ve called SAMSONG for help, they still recommend a service call at my expense. I can not afford another service call neither a refrigerator.
I will never buy any Samsung products again.
Given the magnitude of this issues, what kind of message Samsung has sent regards to their business values and ethics. I CERTENTLY want to be included in the lawsuit. (model RS267LASH)

  • Jessica Luckhaupt September 7, 2013, 6:24 am

Model # rf26vabbp -owned for 4 yr now. Took apart back panel because we heard a “jack-hammer” noise off and on that seemed to recently get louder and more frequent. Surprise surprise…. Entire fan/coils all covered in chunks of ice. Had to let thaw and screwed panel back on. Quite now, but I guess this is something we will have to do every so often. RIDICULOUS! Our ice maker also jams up to because ice starts to melt and clogs it. We also noticed a small amount of rust where shelf brackets insert into metal frame on back of fridge. Never buying another Samsung product EVER!

  • Tanya September 7, 2013, 10:11 am

We purchased our Samsung fridge in 2010. Model #RS263TDBP. In the three years we’ve owned it its it’s failed 2 times. We had a repairman come out yesterday who said its going to take 3 parts to fix this problem and will probably happen again! Same issue going on as everyone else. Fans making horrible noise, water leaking out of freezer onto floor all the time, scrapping an inch layer out of bottom of freezer every week! Oh now our fridge isn’t as cold as it should be. We luckily have a warranty on fridge for another year but I’m afraid it’s going to fail again after he does fix it!! We have already had a total food loss on our first break down. Now were about to have a 2nd. We live in a rural area and the parts are going to take 20 days to get here. Now I have to figure out how to feed my two small children for 20 days without a fridge/freezer! Really bummed about this Samsung! How can I get added to this class action suit???

  • Kathryn Phillips September 9, 2013, 3:17 pm

Same problems as rest. Fridge won’t get below 52degrees! Freezer works fine. Please include me!!! So frustrating…….

  • Don Stahurski September 10, 2013, 12:27 pm

I have a RSTDRS/XAA and in 2 years 1 month have replaced 3 main circuit boards.. Fridge side cools between 46 to 61 degrees. Never quite know anymore if food is safe to eat.. Most expensive fridge I bought in 40 + years and lasted two years.

  • Nicholas McBurney September 11, 2013, 12:59 pm

I have a model RF267AEBP that is icing up and a pool of water is at the bottom of the refrigerator. Please add me to this suit.

  • Poly Georgilas September 15, 2013, 12:43 pm

I have the same issue with my Samsung RB195 from Costco. I made the mistake of buying this, my 2nd Samsung after my 1st one stopped cooling fridge side after 3 years. Thought it was a flook, it is not. Please add me to CAS, as SAMSUN are POC!

  • ALLEN September 21, 2013, 8:48 pm

I own a Samsung RS267LBBP Refrigerator and it is garbage,, right now it is frozen up so bad it has busted the back plastic panel inside the Refrigerator, it’s leaking water all over inside, were on disability and can not afford a repair men to come and repair it,, why did they not fix this before selling so many refrigerators,,, can we get help having this fixed,

  • Melody Brown September 24, 2013, 1:58 pm

I have a RS2630Sh that freezes up about every 3 months. It has cracks in the freezer walls and I have had to replace the compressor fan this all started in less than 2 yrs of use. Now the water line has broken inside and there is no way to get to it to fix it. Now my floor is buckling because of the leak. Now we have no ice. Thinking it was under warranty I called the company to find out I have to pay for a repairman to come out and the repair may not be covered.
Will never buy another appliance from Samsung again. Just give me my money back.
Off to defrost this piece of junk. AGAIN

  • Amy Bilyeu September 27, 2013, 7:11 pm

I also would like to be a part of this class action lawsuit. We purchased the RS267LASH and have had nothing but problems. It will work for about a month before the coils freeze over and the refrigerator and freezer stop cooling. It has been repaired twice and still the problem persists. It is unbelievable Samsung hasn’t addressed this issue as it is apparent I am not the only one who has experienced this. Help please!

  • Terri Connor September 29, 2013, 1:29 pm

Samgsung has had design problems for quite some time. I purchased my bottom freezer model from Best Buy in Dec. 2006 and it stopped working in 2008. I had purchased the extended warranty and they had to replaced the whole cooling system, at that time. Worked fine for the next year. Then we moved and brought it with us but stored it in the garage for about a year, unplugged. We moved it into our kitchen in 2010. It worked fine for about a year (Extended warranty expired Dec. 2011) but the last two years all it has done is freeze up, both in the lower part of the refridge and the freezer is over freezing and creating snow inside of the freezer drawer. Then it will act like it is completely broke and not cool. (It has ruined my hardwood floors in the area surrounding the unit.) If I thaw it out it will start working again but this is ridiculous. I had my last refrigerator forever. Only replaced it, because I wanted a more modern style.

  • Racheal September 29, 2013, 2:19 pm

We have model #RF267AERS/xaa and have spend lots of money to repair and now last service call, the tech said it’s time to trash it. Less than 5 years old and a $3k fridge is trashed? Are you kidding me. Then went and looked for new fridge, surprised to find out that some of the other brands like Kenmore are really made by companies like LG and Samsung.. Wow talk about being let down.. almost bought the same problem twice!! Samsung and LG should just stick to making TV’s..

  • Carol Canepa October 1, 2013, 5:31 pm

I brought a Samsung fridge model rf266aepn in 2011. It seemed fine at first then we noticed food freezing in certain areas of the fridge. Then two months ago the fan was very loud. Then the temperature starting going up. I called for service it took them 3 weeks to get back to me. By then I researched on line and found many had the same problem. We had to unplug and thaw it out. We thought we solved the problem and everything was fine but here we are 2 months later and the same thing is happening again. Now I’ve learned there are many of us, my model number is not on the list but it should be. I want to join the suit, can someone tell me how ?
