Samsung Refrigerator Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Filed Over Alleged Frozen Coil Defect

Samsung Refrigerator Owners File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Samsung Over Alleged Defect That Causes Refrigerator Coils To Freeze Over.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. (hereafter “Samsung” or “Defendants”) in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (styled Jeff Weske, Jo Anna Frager and Darryl Myhre v. Samsung Electronics America, Inc. and Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Civil Action Case No. 2:10-cv-04811-WJM -MF) alleging, among other things, that Samsung sold refrigerators containing a defect that causes the refrigerators’ coils to freeze over, resulting in the failure of the refrigerator to cool, which has caused consumers to suffer damages for lost groceries, spoilage and repairs, according to class action lawsuit news reports.

The Samsung refrigerator class action lawsuit complaint reportedly alleges that certain Samsung French door, side-by-side and bottom freezer refrigerators (model numbers RF266AASH, RS263BBWP, RB1955SH, RS2533SW, RS267LASH, RS267TDRS, RS2630WW) the refrigerators are designed and manufactured with heated coils that are intended to prevent excess frost from developing in the back of the machine, but instead of preventing frost, the coils allegedly allow frost and ice to build up in the refrigerators until the ice clogs and/or disables the machine’s fans, making it impossible for the fans to work to keep the machine cool.

The Samsung refrigerator coil class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of the following putative class members, unless otherwise excluded:

All persons or entities residing in the United States who own, or have owned, Samsung refrigerator models RF266AASH, RS263BBWP, RB1955SH, RS2533SW, RS267LASH, RS267TDRS, RS2630WW and/or any other Samsung refrigerator model containing a defect that causes the refrigerator’s coils to ice over and the refrigerator to stop cooling.

    I am so fed up with not getting action from Samsung on the junk they sold to me and so many people. I want a full refund as I need a new refrigerator. I’m seriously concerned it is dangerous as it is, and the noise it makes a possible fire hazard. Ice still builds up and food gets ruined. I’m on a fixed income a recent widower and have cancer. Please help with getting my refund

    Hi Donna
    I had similar problems. I had no luck with Samsung after 2 years of trying. I was lucky as I got to a Best Buy executive and he gave me $700 credit toward a new fridge. I bought an LG and it is wonderful. This site doesn’t do anything with adding anyone to the class action suit, and I’ve never figured out how to get added. Samsung stonewalls consumers on their defective refrigerators.
    It is pathetic. I tell everyone I know to NOT EVER buy a Samsung appliance!

    My Samsung model RF23HCEDBSR Purchased in Dec 2015 also has stopped making ice and the condenser freezes up and the cool I g can stops running due to ice buildup. Has to be manually defrosted to get to resume working.
    Please put me in the class action suit.

    RF266AEPN add me to the class action suit. I have to defrost more and more frequently because of all the ice buildup in the back and in the lower drawer. It geta so bad you’ll start to hear the fan hitting ice one day and that’s jow you know it’s time as it fills the entire fan compartment by then. You have ti take everything out of the fridge, all the shelves, 1 Then disassemble the back to get at the coils and unfreeze everything. Samsung doesn’t care and denied there was ever an issue. Samsung is the worst.

    I have been living with this hunk of junk Samsung refrigerator for the past two years. It started freezing over and I had no idea what the problem was until I did an online search. Now once a month I have to do a manual defrost to even use the ice maker. The water is another issue on its own as it may work onetime and the next time you try it it won’t. It’s just me and my husband so it’s not like it’s overly used. I will never ever buy anything that has SAMSUNG on the label ever again. It’s all JUNK!!!! I tell everyone I know about the crap!!!

    I have had too get the refrigerator repaired just 2 months consistently after purchasing it for the past two years. It started freezing over and I had no idea that this was a common and ongoing problem with this appliance. Now once a month I have to do a manual defrost to even use the ice maker. It’s just me and my husband so it’s not like it’s overly used. I have tried to get some resolution but have just been given the run around. I was even refused a telephone number to the exchange and refund department that issued me an e-coupon (which I refused to use because it was for another Samsung product that I refuse to spend another dime on EVER!!!!!),so that I could get a bit of satisfaction by speaking with a representative directly. I was told that I would have to wait for a return call in 3-5 business days (this was the second time I’d been told this after the first month went by). I will never ever buy anything that has SAMSUNG on the label ever again. It’s all JUNK!!!! I tell everyone I know about the crap!!!

    what i finally did was, where the little tag goes off the heating coil down behind the freezer drawer, i attached a piece of copper wire to the heat coil and ran it down the drain tube. what happens is where the drain tube runs behind the freezer drawer, it apparently freezes up and allows a build up of ice which eventually reaches the fan. The little heat device they supplied is crap.

    They will never sell us another appliance! We finally ditched our 2 year old microwave. Our refrigerator will be next even though they finally did replace the control board and added the defrost sheet metal adapter to the coil in the back panel for the drain..

    I am also having issues with the constantly manually defrosting my icemaker. I will never purchase a Samsung appliance . Where or who do we contact to get involved in the lawsuit. The leaking water on my wood floors had to be repaired due to leaking water damage. Im so fed up with this purchase. And need to know who I need to contact to add my name to list for lawsuit.

    I finally had to replace the refrigerator after it froze up and I lost all the food I had frozen ..
    First time I lost food – the Samsung I let the coil thaw and it started right back up – The 2nd time the coil froze up and I lost all food for holiday dinner – I had to replace it with a new -NON SAMSUNG ITEM – I will never buy a Samsung item again !!

    I unplug my Samsung Refrigerator one night a week to save it from Icing up the fridge. If I don’t do this the freezer will not freeze and I will have to dispose of my frozen goods.

    Was able to fix myself after seeing a video online. There are some metal tabs in back that extend down into drain. They are supposed to keep the drain from clogging, but are not long enough. Added piece of bare copper wire to extend down into drain and it stopped drain from freezing. Proceed at your own risk, but haven’t had the problem since.

    We have a Samsung refrigerator also that freezes up. It is really a chore to defrost it. Samsung should give the people a credit toward another refrigerator. I feel like that would be the only way I would ever buy another one.

    Samsung French door refrigerator model number RF18HFENBSR. Water leaking down the back wall into the vegetable bins and underneath the bins collecting ice. REPAIRS WERE EXPENSIVE, WOULD LOVE TO BE ADDED TO THE CLASS ACTION SUIT.

    Yes. I had the same issue with the defrost unit flooding our fridge. Condensate literally flowing out. The Samsung is a 2008 model and this started or became evident well after the “warranty period” had expired. There were no kits at the time. So, made my own fix by using aluminum foil to keep the drain tube from clogging up with ice. Since I had COVID, I sometimes catch myself worrying about it. If there is any recall money coming back to us as consumers, please add me to the list.! !

      I did the aluminum foil thing, and it worked for about a year before freezing up again.
      I installed the heavier-duty aluminum part to fix it I got on Amazon for about $5. Search for “Samsung refrigerator clip”
      Addressing this design flaw was a major fail on Samsung’s part.

    We started having trouble with the ice machine freezing 4-6 months after purchasing the refrigerator. The machine growls and makes several different noises frequently. Our new problem is we have water coming down from the water and ice dispenser and it literally made 2 very visible discolorations/thick lines on the front door, all the way to the bottom of the fridge. Very cheap stainless steel. Sign me up for the class action!

    We have a Samsung RF267AEPN that is having these same problems. A tech was out and wants to replace the evaporator core panel with a cost of over $700.
    This is clearly the same problem of icing up the back wall and at the bottom of top section and eventually causing the ice maker to fail. it also starts to leak down into the freezer and cause the same issues in the lower freezer.

    I also have had issues with the samsung refrigerator model RF26HFENDSR/AA Each year repairman has to come out and fix the issue with the fans going off, water freezing under veg bins, frost in freezer ..last year the temperature went up to 60 degrees for about 2 weeks, lost food The repairman said this is on going issue with the samsung The initial lawsuit was in 2010, then why was samsung still selling the defective refrigerator Please include my name in lawsuit

    We bought a four door Samsung refrigerator and when we first bought it, we had issues. The warranty replaced the Icemaker but even so, the problem continues. We continuously have to pull out the tray, blow dry the area, remove the frozen ice cubes and all the built up ice around the tray compartment. For spending so much money on this product, we should not expect so many issues. Also, when getting ice, it leaks water through the ice cube release.

    Please add me to this lawsuit! My samsung fridge model RF18HFENBWW is constantly freezing my food. I am currently thawing my fridge out. This is insane that nothing has been done to compensate these customers. My family is out thousands of dollars due to this company.
