Olympus Stylus Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Over Olympus Stylus 1030 SW & 850 SW Cameras Waterproof & Shockproof Capabilities

Olympus Camera Owner File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Olympus Imaging America Over Alleged Defect That Causes Olympus Stylus 1030 SW and Stylus 850 SW Camera To Fail Or Malfunction When Underwater or When Dropped.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Olympus Imaging America, Inc. (“Olympus Imaging” or “Olympus” or “Defendant”) in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California (styled Stefanie Mlejnecky v. Olympus Imaging America, Inc., Civil Action Case No. 2:10-cv-02630-JAM-KJN) alleging, among other things, that Olympus advertised the Olympus Stylus 1030 SW and the Stylus 850 SW cameras as “Shockproof”, “Waterproof,” “Crushproof” and “Freezeproof,” but allegedly the Olympus Stylus SW cameras contain defects relating to the battery card cover and battery card cover latch that cause the cameras to fail when underwater at what Olympus advertises as safe levels and when dropped from what Olympus advertises as safe heights, according to class action news reports.

The Olympus Stylus SW camera class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of the following putative class, unless otherwise excluded:

All persons in California who purchased an Olympus Stylus 1030 SW or Olympus Stylus 850 SW camera between January 2008 and the present.

Did the courts ever think that there are only a few people who actually know how to use underwater gear. Even a hair or one sand grain can cause failure “at depth” whether that be 33 ft or 160 feet with professional underwater gear… I think people are just upset they are idiots and didnt read the manual about checking the O Rings or sending in the Camera to have the O Rings checked annually for aging. Most professionals replace O Rings per trip so these lasting 12months is a blessing. What does your rubber band feel like after a year in the desk drawer.. not as stretchy or supple and just like the silicone rubber seal degraded and not as “water tight”. I think people are just want want want mememe in this entitlement generation in the epitomy of the entitlement states.

I have two Stylus 1030SW- two because the first, water leaked into the USB AV port and the camera stopped working. I blew out the water, with compress air and air dried it. A week later, just as I was about to throw it away, i turned it on one last time… it worked! knock on wood- i haven’t had any problems with both cameras. I even lost one while surfing in 15 ft water, for about 30 minutes. A buddy found it by accident- pushed down to the bottom because of the surf. He popped up and started taking pictures of me.. the camera ran the whole time, until the time loop stopped. I’m just saying… i agree with Anon, if you take care of your toys, they will last forever… or until an upgrade comes along. I know surf with GoPro’s. but, still use the Stylus from time to time.
