Gateway LX 6810 Desktop Computer Owners & Lessees File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Gateway Over Cooling Fan And Alleged Overheating.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Gateway, Inc. (“Gateway” or “Defendant”) in the United States District Court for the Central District of California (styled Raymond Kelly, Scott Willcox, Don Sarrio and Jare DeGroot v. Yep…Got this back in 09 and have wondered about this issue. So far I’ve installed a front and rear fan, cleaned up the fans, got a new pci express graphics card, and recently after getting the graphics card was enthusiastic about never having to deal with the mumbo jumbo again. Well here I am not playing League of Legends on the lowest setting (not that advanced) and still getting random shutdowns. I was gonna flash the bios to their new one but that I beleive requires a bootable usb which can only be made by having a copy of windows vista to create one (correct me if I’m wrong). Windows Vista is preinstalled on this computer so I can’t do that either. If you need my support on the law suit then reply to this with a contact and I’d love to support the cause.

I have this computer and have been fighting with it since the day I bought it. I called gateway and all they would do for me is take my creditcard number, charge $150.00 and give me 90 mins of tech support. What is that gonna do for me? I’ve installed 2 fans and even gone a step further and rethermaled the heatsinks. And to my surprise on the cpu heatsink there was NO thermal compound!!! But even after that I still have overheats. What do I do now?

My Gateway LX68010 started having overheating issues that resulted in chronic shutdowns, the thermal paste on the cpu was very thin and dried. Deja Vu from Xbox 360…… I’m soo tired of this companies beeing so darn greedy.

I bought this computer back in 2009 and soon after I read an article about the overheating and shutdown problems. I thought I was a lucky one because most people said the problems started after they had it 3 to 4 months and I already had it for 31/2 months. A few days later it shut down on me. I had to take the side panel off just to get any work done and then that wasn’t working. Called Gateway to get some relief, but as you all know, I rather go to the dentist and get all my teeth pulled than dealing with those a**holes. I finally purchased 3 fans, a hard drive cooler, and a controller which I mounted in one of the hot swap bays. Also downloaded a program called EFmer to gauge the tempereature of each core and the GPU. I also read where the computer freezes at times due to something having to do with the motherboard. After I installed all fans and made sure it was cool, I still have these random freezes which have on occasion screwed up some software programs that I run. In fact 1 month ago I had to repurchase a program that was running when it froze and when I rebooted, it took out a key component in the program so it would not run. I also have to sort out my router occasionally because when it freezes you have to reboot, and that’s like cutting power off and it makes the address in the router settings jump. I am so thoroughly pissed off at Gateway. In fact in the next week, I’ll be purchasing another computer, (not a Gateway), to replace this one with something I can depend on that won’t screw up my programs.

I have a Gateway LX6810 desktop with the over heating issue. I bought it for my wife and it lasted just past the store’s warranty. I am extremely frustrated and disappointed with this computer. I have read a lot of the complaints and must confess I am very upset and disappointed that a company like gateway can get away with (in my opinion) stealing money from people. I do not think that a companies like Gateway should be allowed to be in business. I will never buy a Gateway computer again!!!

I have this computer as well. It’s been sitting for almost a year unused because of the problems. Just found out today about the Class Action suit, when researching parts needed to get it running properly… Not sure if it is too late to join the Class Action or not, though.

As you may know, Acer owns and makes gateway computers.
my Acer computer just went back to Fryes’ store today because of trouble with overheating.

by entering through del & return pressed together, you get a screen of your computer’s data.
mine indicated it was 159 degrees F thus explaining the hot left side of the case and its crashing.

i took it back to Fryes’ store.
i’m just waiting to hear the song and dance thhat’s forthcoming probably without a concrete repair.
perhaps the class=actionlawsuit should include acer products as well since they probably used the same parts in both brands.
Good luck to us all and damn the computer companies and big-business in general.

I have had to replace my hard drive on several occasions and have had my computer freeze, lock-up and crash due to an overheating problem. I have taken it back to Best Buy on some of these occasions and was not helped in any way. They told me at one point that the store would be closing and I had to leave my machine. I drive 45 miles each way to get the repairs done and they were not done so I had to return. I told them I waould not leave this time till it was fixed or replaced with a new machine as it was only 60 days old. They finally pulled a new hard drive off the shelf and that worked temporarily. Pleas contact me as to how to join this class action suit.
