Chrysler Dodge Journey Owners and Lessees File Class Action Lawsuit Complaint Against Chrysler Over Alleged Defects In the Dodge Journey’s Braking System’s Brake Pads and Rotors.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against Chrysler Group LLC (“Chrysler” or “Defendant”) in the United States District Court for the District of New Jersey (styled Gabriella Tatum and Jamie Meyer v. Chrysler Group LLC, Civil Case No. 2:10-cv-04269-DMC -JAD) alleging, among other things, that the 2009 and 2010 Chrysler Dodge Journey suffers from a design defect in its braking system in that the brake pads and rotors are too small and thin to handle the braking duties required by the size and weight of the Chrysler Dodge Journey purportedly resulting in an increase in brake wear and causing brakes to potentially fail as early as 12,000 miles, requiring early replacement of brake pads or shaving or resurfacing of brake rotors, according to class action lawsuit news reports.

The Chrysler Dodge Journey brake pad and brake rotor class action lawsuit complaint is reportedly brought on behalf of the following class of persons, unless otherwise excluded:

All (i) current owners or lessees of a 2009 or 2010 Dodge Journey in New Jersey or California; and (ii) former owners or lessees of a 2009 or 2010 Journey in New Jersey of California who paid for a repair related to the Braking System (the “Class”).

The Chrysler Dodge Journey brake pad and brake rotor class action lawsuit complaint reportedly alleges statutory violations of the New Jersey Consumer Fraud Act (N.J.C.F.A.), N.J.S.A 56:8-1 et seq., California Consumers Legal Remedies Act (CLRA), Cal. Civ. Code § 1750 et seq., California Unfair Competition Law (UCL), Cal. Bus. & Prof. Code § 17200 et seq. and Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, 15 U.S.C. § 2301 et seq., and breach of express warranty.

    I fixed the braking issues on my 09 Journey by upgrading to an after market brake kit with bigger rotors and better pads. Havent replaced them since….I got a vibration noise from the seal around windshield at about 70mph fixed that with a little silicone on the inside of the seal…replaced my front wheel bearing already at 51k….Other than that so far I havent had any other issues with it….Other than the expensive 19 inch tires that are needed.

        Richard, did you get the information? If you do will you please forward it to me. My wifes 2009 journey has less then 25000 miles on it. I replaced the pads and rotors a month ago before we went on vacation. on the way home it started shaking and pulling to the right real bad so if there is an upgrade i want it! Thanks in advance,

    I own a 2010 Journey R/T and while i am 65k in and no break work yet, i am on my second radiator and motor number 2 . I have had some pulsation in my break peddle but not much. It gets driven about 100 miles every week day.

    I purchased my 2011 Dodge Journey in March of 2011. Have had brake squeeling problems with it since I bought it along with constant shaking of the steering wheel. I have about 30k miles on it as of now and still the same problems. I have brought it in numerous times due to the noise and vibrations and was told at first it was just a rock in my rotors. Next time they said they needed to be greased and so the explanations just kept coming. NO change at all. I was just last year that I needed knew brakes and rotors and my vehicle was but a year old with 15k miles on it. I have also brought my vehicle to the local dodge place because my journey would fail to even start. A new battery already? This problem has happened on three occasions and the dealership told me it was because i have so many computer chips in my journey that it needs to be brought in to be updated.?? Wasnt told this when I purchased it at all.

    I have a 2009 Dodge Journey and need a transfer case replaced. My car was towed to the dealer and even the car has only 59,000 miles on it.. it is not under warranty. To make matters worse the transfer case is on back order. They have 430 people waiting for one. I am 431 on the wait list …my wait time is at least 4-6 weeks with no lender.
    Thank you Dodge !! I was told I will not be charged storage fee for my car being on the lot..can’t make this stuff up. Dodge Journey is a terrible car.

      Also own a 2009 Dodge Journey with transfer case problems. Like you, had to get it towed into the dealership. Luckily, I once worked at Chrysler and called in to complain. They paid for it, the only bright side in this (stumbling upon this site, I see why they did!). BUT 14 months later, I am having the problem again. On top of the controls not working on the driver’s side door.

    I am having the same problems with my brakes and rotors and now the electrical problems. From what I am gathering the Class Action Suit was dismissed as of late last year. Do you know of any others that have any lawsuits filed against Chrysler?

    After having the brakes replaced (under warentee) and only lasting about 1200 miles.. we got the same problem.. harsh vibration. I spent 500+ on new rotors (aftermarket) and high per pads.. its been over a year now no repeate problems(brake realted). However now we are having problems with the Rocker Arms lol Getting two replaced as I am typing this.

    I bought my 2009 Journey used in January of 2011. The inadequate braking system problems were never disclosed to me at the time of sale and now 2 years later I have replaced the pads twice and am in the process of having all 4 calipers and rotors (as well as more pads) replaced. My extended warranty I bought with the car doesn’t want to cover it….. someone please help!!!!

      Might I add that the car only has 51,000 miles and I owe more on it than what it’s worth, so I can’t get rid of it.

        I am in the process of replacing the rear calipers now. This is a disgrace. With 33000 on the car I had to replace the front calipers. On my 3rd set of rotors. Any word on the class action lawsuit?

    I bought a 2010 and had brakes and rotors replaced 6 times in 6 months all for free courtesy of Jim Shorkey Dodge and then the 7th time in 7 months they said they weren’t gonna fix it so I called Dodge and complained and told them I was gonna bring it down and drive it through the showroom floor and whoops the brakes didn’t work the dealer called me next day and fixed again haven’t had a problem in over a year and now I just ordered today cross drilled and slotted and vented rotors with ceramic brakes cuz I need brakes again…Also I sued Dodge and got a whopping 1500 outta them and now I wish I hadn’t cuz I am screwed…its a shame they are allowed to resell theses vehicles knowing that they are problematic so if these new rotors and brakes don’t work or go in less than a month I am gonna drive the fucking piece of shit into a wall and get a new vehicle from insurance..already wrote a letter and signed it cuz if anything happened and I die my wife has all the paperwork from past work and she can sue these shady motherfuckers

    I hate my 09 journey brakes replaced 3 times, transmission blew at 62k miles, door lock, window and stereo electrical problems that ‘get fixed’ only to keep happening and get ‘fixed’ again. Not only will I never own another journey, I wouldn’t consider a chrysler vehicle if it was free.

    Bought my 2011 dodge journey r/t in aug 2011 and had to change both pads and rotors front and back at 70k to aftermarket life time warranty and ceramic pads. Still having problems with the vehicle pulling hard when applying the break. The rotors heat up after awhile of driving and the shaking and pulling becomes unbearable. Now I have to replace front rotors at 99k because their warped. im thanking myself for spending the little extra money on pArts so their FULLY warrantied. i bought a 2005 dodge sx2.0 sport and was changing breaks on that vehicle every year as well. its not my style of driving , its just sometimes you need to stop! There are hazards on the road and vehicles should be built to hold their weight! I had rear passenger side differential seal leaking at 50k. Had to buy new tires after first year, not to mention the expensive special order tires. Dodge is over priced for the quality you end up with. Rather pay ford prices for junk than dodge prices for junk. Have purchased 2 vehicles now from dodge and have spent 60k. If all turns out bad with the journey it will be my last dodge.

    I also have a 2009 dodge journey 1 month after buying it brand new it had to be towed because of the ignition control module. I tried to take it back to the dealer but they would not take it back. This car has been the worst car I ever bought. I am again experiencing the same problem at 60,000 miles. I never know if it will start or not. Also the person who made the decision to place the battery in the wheel well is an idiot. I also have to replace the brakes every 20,000 miles and last time the rotors also. As I write this my car is in the shop having the erg valve replaced because the malfunction indicator light is on. I have three Chrysler products now and I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER ONE. I am going back to Ford.

    My 2012 Journey had its front brakes changed at 11,000 km, now the back brakes are gone at 27,000……I have NEVER had to change brakes this early. They wanted to charge me $600 bucks to fix the back brakes! Are you kidding me? I have driven foreign vehicles all my life and have NEVER changed my brakes before 80,000! Obviously there are class action lawsuits going on everywhere regarding this issue! I should have stuck to my foreign vehicles if this is what I am going to have to deal with in the future.

    We purchased an 09 new put 3 sets of tires and two sets of brakes in less than three years and rotors etc the list goes on and I I finally traded it last year as I had been out a few thousand dollars while trying to make payments

    I Purchased my 2009 Journey 2 years ago used. I now know why it was up for sale. I have on going issues with my brakes and rotors have had them replaced numerous times. Still have squealing and shaking. I also have no idea when the car will decide to start. The dealer has had it a couple of times and said they fixed it but would realize that no it is not fixed. I do like the car but can’t depend on it at all. I really wish Chrysler would make good for all the non fixable repairs I have had to the car, and FIGURE OUT what the issue is.

    we have a 2011 journey and have had the front brakes completely redone twice. 800$ the first time and today another 540$. we have also done the rear brake pads and rotors once. this car is only 2yrs old. what a pile. will never buy another dodge…

    We purchased a 2010 Dodge Journey in April of 2010. In May 2010, May 2011, April 2012, May 2013, and it needs it again… We had to get new rotors. This past April we spent almost $500.00 for rear brakes and re-surfaced rotors. Dodge/Chrystler needs to make this right with their customers. I guess they are waiting until someone gets killed before they do something. Not to mention, we have a faulty key fob. We can be driving along and hit a bump and the air/heat, radio, etc will quit working. We have to pull over and wiggle the key fob and everything will start working again. Don’t get me started on the $1,200 tires that are required for this vehicle. This car only has 42,000 miles on it. It’s wrong that a company doesn’t take responsibility for their defective product. I wonder what the national news media could do to help us?

    I have owned this car for 2 years and have changed the BRAKES/ROTORS/CALIPERS 3X, and they need to be changed again! This car also has an INTERMITTENT START. I received in August 2014 a Recall notice from Dodge regarding the “ON” position in the ignition but in the recall notice it states “THEY HAVE NO PARTS AVAILABLE TO FIX AND WILL CONTACT US WHEN THEY ARE AVAILABLE”. Well its nearly 3 months later and still haven’t heard from DODGE on this issue – so the fact that my car still intermittently starts, DODGE COULD CARELSS! Today, the ESP traction light came on! In the first 4 months of owning this car, the thermostat and anti-freeze tank went out and had to be changed! THIS IS A LEMON AND DODGE KNOWS IT! ITS A SHAME THAT NOONE WILL LISTEN TO US! I URGE YOU TO GOOGLE ALL THE COMPLAINTS OF THE 2009 DODGE JOURNEY………..IT WILL BLOW YOUR MIND…………….YET WE CAN’T GET A LAWSUIT GOING!? I HOPE I CAN TRADE MY CAR SOON AND I PROMISE YOU I WILL NEVER RECOMMEND OR PURCHASE FROM DODGE/CHRYSLER EVER AGAIN! I REPEAT………..DO YOUR HOMEWORK………..THIS CAR IS A LEMON!

    Like all of you folks I own a Dodge Journey P.O.S. (piece of sh#t). Did all of you people get that 3 word response when taking to the Chrysler “Customer Service” people ? The C.S. people kept repeating “It’s past warranty” to me. It’s WAY PAST time seek litigation against Chrysler with regards to this “vehicle.”
    My family & I have been loyal Chrysler drivers since the early 70’s. Guess I should be happy that my trans didn’t crap out until 118k miles. However, I’ve had the same issues with tires, brakes, intermittent starting issues & my CD player bit the dust.
    As soon as I get mine back from the shop, my 1st stop will be at Hobby Lobby. I was #1 in my class when I went to Graphic Arts School. I’m finally going to get to use that education. Those of you who own a Journey, do what I’m doing. Buy some yellow poster board, and make some lemons to place in your windows when you park your Journey in a large parking lot. I’m going to write Friends don’t let friends buy a Dodge Journey. Let’s make this message go viral!!!!
